Sir Donovan Ravencourt |
Donovan thrusts at one of the animated puppets before him, waving his hand to the rest of the group to motion them around him.
"Keep tight! Pen them in!"
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 1 = 18

Let's try to surround them. Lower AC people, stand next to me and I can help you out.
Nathaniel Artegal Boote |
I will want to move to F,6 and attack with my Halberd
As I move, I slowly remove the leather guard from the head of the Halberd, and while I am doing that I recite a Guards Oath
"By my oath as a guardian of the sacred tomb of our lady, may all that I can give in her honor be all that is needed."
Melee Attack with Halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

forgot to add the plus 1 from Olivia's performance, so that should be a 16 and 8
Dimitrio Carini |
Dimitrio is quick as ever and virtually springs forth to strike. Spitting on the ground to ward off evil spirits, he jumps on the stage and almost bends down to strike at the puppets. His shortsword and dagger almost magically appearing in his hands as he moves.

Nicu hops up the stairs, slides past his companions, and drops back off the stage to the audience floor of the theatre. move to F4 or F3 if able Targeting one of the creepy dolls, he unleashes another force missile.
Force Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
(daily force missiles: 3/5 or 4/5, not sure if he was able to use it earlier on post 267?)
GM bluedove |
Dimitrio strikes out wildly at the Carrionettes, but finds the creatures too nimble for his blades. Donovan and Artegal, on the other hand, both land shattering blows. Carrionette AC=14
Giuseppe clutches his white hair as his creations are carved and splintered by the party's blades. He reaches for the puppet dressed in green with panic in his eyes. "Figlio! We must escape!"
Figlio bares his wooden teeth, but allows the old man to snatch him from the puppet theatre and turn to flee. Giuseppe holds him like a child as he darts down the stairs to the door. He frantically goes to work on the removing the wooden bar.
Rannveig and Ylva (do they move on the same initiative, or was I right to roll them separate?) spring into action, but the puppets avoid the threat of teeth and blade. Ylva succeeds in knocking one of the dolls prone, however. Let's put Rannveig at E,5 and Ylva at G,7
Nicu slides across the stage and jumps down 3 feet to the audience floor and zaps one of the Carrionettes with a force missile. This is Nicu's first force missile, Knuckles got beyond line of sight due to the fog before anyone still in the house had a chance to act.

GM bluedove |
Minor update: C6 was not knocked prone after all, so no AoO's. Also, if you could put a line like Artegal and Ninefingers have in their Classes/Levels field, that would be helpful. Preferred style:
Conjurer-1 | AC:12 T:12 FF:10 | HP:11/11 (1d6+2+3) | F:+1 R:+2 W:+2 | Init:+8 | Perc:+6
As Nicu loses the feeling in his arm, he notices the needle and silvery thread disappear from view. The Carrionette that launched the needle is a twisted looking clown, with a white painted face and colorful features and clothing. The thing takes the second missile in the face, but it's exaggerated smile turns positively vicious and it readies another assault for it's now handicapped prey.
Sir Donovan Ravencourt |
pre-Round 2
Will Save DC 12: 1d20 ⇒ 15 Whew
The pain was overwhelming, like the needle was causing his skin to try to rip itself off his body. He gritted his teeth and willed the pain down. As one of them hurled a needle at Nico, Donovan lunged in the way, taking the blow meant for his friend.
Using Bodyguard to give Nico a +2 AC bonus with one of my AoOs. Since that isn't enough of a boost to negate the attack, I'll take the hit for him with In Harm's Way.
Fort DC 12: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Donovan's arm immediately went numb and dead as the old man began to run. He was suddenly very glad he was a fencer. "Rannveig! Nico! Get after him!"
Round 2
Donovan stepped nimbly around Boote and the wolf at the edge of the stage to try to pen in the puppet creatures and swung down with his glowing blade again to finish the creatures in front of him before they could lash out with any more of those terrible needles.
Acrobatics to avoid AoOs: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Move to the open space next to Dimitrio and the wolf
Attack, Flanking with Boote: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Luc, I'm guessing that the wolf and Nico's magic are probably our best bet for slowing down the old man. Dwarves aren't known for their speed ;)
If you have some spell up your sleeve that might trip them up though, go for it.
GM bluedove |
I'm a little hesitant to allow this... although Nicu is adjacent on the map, he's 3 feet lower since he is on the audience floor and Donovan is on the stage... But since it just moves the effect from one character to another, I suppose it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. You neglected to make the aid another roll, though.
Also, is Donovan right or left handed? He will have had some control on how he blocked the needle, but it would have had to have been on the right side of his body, I would think. Probably the right leg, based on the 3 foot difference. This paralyzation basically freezes the limb in place, stiff. So taking it in one leg will hamper movement by half, but you won't fall prone. If you choose to have taken it in the right arm you'll lose your shield bonus and if Donovan is right-handed, he's now fighting off-handed.
Also, C5 provokes AoO's from Donovan, Dimitrio, Artegal and Ylva due to its ranged attack on Nicu in Round 1.

Round 2 edit
As Donovan protects and directs the party, echoing the words of Boote to get the old man, Nicu turns his force missile attack on the puppet master.

Rannveig Pack-Bound |
Rannveig lets out a coughing noise - a bark, perhaps? - at Donovan's order, and drops to her knees, only for a second or two. When she rises, her gait is smooth and unbelievably swift - not that of a running woman, but a loping wolf, and she tears up the stairs towards the spot where Giuseppe had been. Hearing Rannveig's cough, Ylva jinks aside from the threatening motions of the puppets in front of her and runs for the same point, somewhat ahead of the girl. The she-wolf pauses at the door, her nose lifted to the night air.
Rannveig uses Totem Transformation to increase her speed to 50 for the next minute (10 rounds), then runs to K10, while Ylva Withdraws from the puppets and gets to the open door, sniffing for Giuseppe with Scent. She should be able to detect him if he's within 5 feet, otherwise we start trying to track him.

Olivia Suncatcher |
Olivia gapes in shock when the toymaker opens the door and disappears from view, but a low grunt from Artegal behind her draws her attention away from the cowardly man. "Run if you dare, but you will not escape!"
She moves to close the gap where Ylva was and lashes out with her whip. She strikes a cracking blow, but it seems to have little effect.
Ylva reaches the area near the door and utters a low growl, 'Here!' her thoughts say to the human she-wolf. Suddenly a wooden hand darts out from thin air and grasps the wolf by the ear. Ylva yelps out in fear as her body begins to caper and leap, her paws beating out some strange wolfy jig. A wicked yet gleeful laugh is heard as the hand withdraws into nothingness.
Ylva needs a will save to reduce duration to 1 round or else she will dance for 3 rounds. She cannot attack and is at -4 AC, -10 Reflex while dancing and will provoke an AoO every round. She cannot move from the square until the effect ends.

With the wolf effectively dealt with, and still under the cloak of his spell Giuseppe makes his escape through the door.
Dimitrio lands a solid blow with his dagger and his wooden opponent rewards him by searing him viciously with a mere touch.
Donovan is so preoccupied with protecting his allies, his blow goes wide of his mark.
Artegal downs his foe (C3) which is nearly split in two, but still writhes on the floor, striking out feebly with it's needle in hand. C5 strikes at the halfling and makes contact with one leg.
Ylva is dancing wildly. (and still needs a will save DC 16) Rannveig and Luc are up.

Here is a revised map with Donovan's move to F,8.

Luc will continue moving towards Giuseppe. If Giuseppe has is still in the doorway, the dwarf will move to (L,11) and swing his heavy mace that has the his divine favor of his god flowing through it.

The dice bot hates me in this game too.
If Giuseppe went through the door, then Luc will have double moved to follow him.
Sir Donovan Ravencourt |
No. Go ahead and put me back. I noticed I'd been moved somehow and just rolled with it. I need to be as close to everyone as I can anyway. I originally moved to let others in sand flank. Once things get less cramped, I intended to move back anyway. You had me right where I needed to be, which is why i didn't add flanking to my last attack.
GM bluedove |
Revision: Donovan successfully blocks the needle from Artegal and takes the hit for Dimitrio. (hard to picture this on a touch attack, o.O) Donovan should return to (E,6) and Giuseppe has gone *poof* as best you can tell.
Note that Giuseppe is still not visible, so you assume he must have made his escape. To pursue him, you must make a roll to determine which way he's gone. But note that Donovan is at 2HP and only one puppet is down and Ylva is barking and yelping and dancing in place, completely exposed.
Luc "Ninefingers" Rockborn |
I place a small red dot on Giuseppe to indicate that he has vanished/invisible.
I don't like redo/retcon actions myself, so I just moved Luc into the hex by the door. Assume he swung his mace and missed. IMHO, redos/retcons add confusion to the game. In character Luc does not know Donovan is hurt and the battle is not going well.
Rannveig Pack-Bound |
Rannveig, with a whining noise, stops at the door, investigating Ylva as the wolf shakes off the mindhold that forces her to dance. Her blade waves in the air as she defends her confused friend, watching for any threat. Without the wolf, she could not hope to find the mad puppetmaster even if she was inclined to leave her behind.
Olivia Suncatcher |
Luc and Rannveig encounter nothing but empty air where they had last seen Giuseppe, it seems the toymaker has fled.
Olivia's frustration etched on her face, she lashes out with her whip again but lands no blow.
"Don't lose heart, my friends. They are but wood and paint, and we will reduce them to splinters!"
