Tracking the ettin is easy enough, given the enormous feet and the bear's clawed footprints. The trail leads a mile or more down the river, then cuts across at a ford. On the far side of the ford are three giants with overlarge misshapen heads, laying into each other. In giant speech they are apparently blaming each other for their inability to get into the Storm King's army. Empty jugs at their feet and slurred speech indicate that they are quite drunk. As you watch, one of the giants punches another, teeth spraying onto the ground. At this, Storn lets out a guffaw, and all three giants turn towards you and bellow a challenge. Forgetting their squabble, they grab up their clubs and prepare to give you a good thumping!

K. Local DC20:

These are veds, as indicated by their overly large heads. They have enormoud lung capacity and their howls can knock a full-ground man in armor completely over with the force of the air.

The group quietly waits in the bushes, watching the giants bicker with each other. As they turn to discuss plans, there is the slight snap of a twig when Sander steps down a little too hard. Storn sternly shushes Sander. "Shhhh..."

Storn misses his attack with the awkwardly long spear as the giants close, but the armor does the trick. Two of the giants looked visibly ill as they moved in, and that kept them from being able to dodge Molly's spell. The lightning crackled, and all three of the giants danced with the electricity jolting through them. Then Quill's arrrows cut through the air. One missed, because of Molly's hair obscuring most of his target, but the other took the lead giant in the chest, staggering her as Sander's bombs fell onto the creature and finished her off. The remaining giant saw its fellows fall and took a desultory swipe at Sander before turning and running away.

Sander -- have narrowly avoided instant death at the paw of the giant -- has no inclination to pursue, stopping and looking around to make sure there are no others coming.

"I guess we're getting closer," he says, once the others have brought the fleeing figure down or let it go.

"Don't let the creep get away! We can't risk it blabbing on us to the army!" Molly snaps as she unslings and loads her crossbow.

Seeing the other 2 fall Kipa looks over at the last standing giant, yelling in its natural tongue "COME ONE BUG GUY! ARE YOU SCARRED? IF YOUR FILTH LORD IS AS WORTHLESS AS THESE TWO, THEN WE HAVE NOTHING REALLY TO WORRY ABOUT DO WE?"
Whispering over to the others For the love of all that is good make sure this thing goes down

With that he gets ready for it to move closer

Hold till the giant moves up. I may be away this week for the holidays. Hope to be back aspa but please feel free to Bot me if needed.

Quill's arrows took the fleeing giant in the back and killed it. Rifling through the bodies, you find nothing of worth. Apparently, if you aren't good enough for the Storm King, you really are the dregs of giant-kind.

Beyond the river, the trail is full of giant tracks, and following any one set is beyond even Quill's expertise. The ford takes you across the major river, but tributaries leading to the north and south seem to be equally traveled.

Sander shrugs and points north.

"I guess we might as well try that way if we've got no better thoughts. Unless someone wants to try to climb or fly up and see if they can see anything from higher up?"

Can offer an extract of fly to someone if they want.

North or South?: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Storn nods over to Sander. "Let's send Kipa or Quill up with some of your fly-juice to scout things. I don't want to go the wrong direction, people may think I'm stupid then."

Quill grins as his arrow finds its mark and fells the giant. He blows on Deathwhisper, as if that it might make the bow stay as good as it is.

”This is a good bow, Molly,” Quill quips, pleased that it kills some giants so well. ”Well, wait Sander....we should go right. Always go right, that’s right, you know?”

I think we want to go south to continue on with the always right theme of our explorations.

That's fine with me. I was just trying to push. That said, if someone wants to scout, go for it, and I'll mark off the extract. You guys may want to put some ranks into Fly as we move forward, for that matter.

"Of course it is. I enchanted it," Molly says with a quick grin.

"One downside to sending folks out flying, fellas; Giants will be able to spot 'em easy. If we stay on the ground, we at least get cover from the trees. I'd like ta recommend something different; if y'all look out for birds, I might be able to persuade some of 'em ta do some scouting for us."

Male Halfling unchained rogue/8 HP:59 AC:23Touch:17 FF:NA CMD:20 F:5 R:13 W:6 Inti:+7

"Sorry Sanders but I like her idea better. Cover means less chance of being swatted at by a giant. But I am more then happy to scout out ahead on the ground."

Kipa spends a few moments to make sure he is not leaving anything behind after the fight or that the giant left anything behind after he died. Looting and such as a rouge should

Once he is set, Kipa looks at the group Ok, lets keep an eye out for a bird for Molly but I can move a bit a head in the mean time and look out. This is the way we are going correct?. Pointing in the direction they were heading in before the fight, Kipa waits for the rest of the party to adjust the heading then moves forward. He keeps about 100 feet ahead, keeping to cover and wooded areas as much as he can.

Heading along the southward trail, you follow the river until it narrows to little more than a stream. The path is relatively easy, though the thin air in the mountains makes the elevation changes hard for some. It is difficult to maintain full stealth and alertness on a continual basis, especially with the beauty of the mountain pass all around you. That is, until Kipa spotted something on the ground ahead. Everyone held their weapons ready as you approached the form. Great rivulets of blood snaked into the nearby stream, turning the water at its edge a pinkish hue. The blood came from a giant's corpse, currently being ravaged by scavengers. Four creatures, a horrible mix of stag, hawk, and wolf tore into the corpse. Despite your cautious approach, the creatures turn to look at you, snarling and flaring their wings to scare you away from their meal.

”Peri-fauns, Sander? They don’t look like fey to me, but they *do* seem half this and half that, so maybe...”

Quill keeps far away from the creatures, trying to keep in any tree cover.

”Yeah, they are pretty ugly. Let’s not start a fight if we can avoid it, especially if they are feasting on giants.”

One of the creatures snarls at you, then oddly begins to speak from the wolf muzzle. "Look, brothers. Fresh meat. Beat's day-old giant, now doesn't it?"

All four of the creatures turned to attack, teeth bared.
