Storn's eyes go wide as he takes in the sight of the cyclops. The grin that splits his face looks wide enough to eat both of the halflings in the party. He looks to the rest of the group.

"Not sure it's seen us, good chance for an ambush. Let's get ready and let it come to us."

Any thoughts of the giant not seeing you were dashed as the two fleeing men turned your direction. With an earth-shaking roar, the cyclops moved out of the trees and onto the path, greatclub swinging through the air with an audible sound.

Molly ran up to heal Storn, stabilizing the big man. Quill, distracted by Storn falling down on the job again, missed with both of his arrows, as did Kipa. Fortunately for all of you, Sander did not. A cascade of frost burst over the giant as both of Sander's bombs landed square. The cyclops keeled over, one of its arms, completely frozen, shattering as the giant hit the ground and was still.

Combat over!

The running villagers turned as they heard the giant fall. Cautiously they moved back to you and one of them spoke. "We're sorry about your friend, but there is another group of giants just that way. Storn grunts, nodding to Molly. "We need to move giants into us rather than the other way around, I'm going to get killed at this rate and I have work to do for Gorum. Bring them in, yhou do your oogly-boogly stuff, and Kipa and I can surround and take them down. Also some oogly-boogly stuff may stop me from getting smashed with a f@!!ing club again."

Not too late, as I haven't even read the new posts yet ;)

Quill and Kipa fly ahead, looking for the giants that the villagers had mentioned. The trail was easy enough to follow, and their flight made things quick and easy. After about five minutes, you catch sight of the giants ahead, nearly two miles beyond where you left your companions. Instead of more cyclopians, what you find is a quartet of ogres, large ones, pulling along a chain of humans.

At this point your flight is almost spent. You can make it about halfway back to the rest of the group, before you have to land and hoof it. Or, you can try and get closer to the ogres, which require a stealth check.

How much time is left on the fly? Quill may decide to air bomb the ogres to death. A minute left, you’d say? How far away are we? With distance penalties, I think we can get pretty close without being seen.

Quill readies his bow and looks at Kipa, wondering what could possibly go wrong.

You are about a half mile from the ogres with about 2 minutes left on the fly. Moving at 120' per round, you could just about close the distance.

"You could wear that armor," Sander suggests to Storn. "That might get them to come to you."

Giving Quill a knowing look "Once more into the depths of battle we go my friend." Kipa draws his two blades.

Based on the description, Kipa, it's probably better if we return to the party.

Quill pauses and looks at Kipa.

"Kipa, you keep an eye on them, I'll go back and get the rest. We'll catch up soon..." Quill spins on this airy heels to return to the party. When he arrives, he will explain what he saw and give directions on how to catch the ogre train.

Storn grumbles as he looks at Kipa. "You're probably right you know. The half-plate is better all round, but anything that gives me an up on those damn beasts. I can't stand toe to toe so need to think smarter."

While Kipa and Quill scout, Storn switches into the Giant's Nail Scale Mail, lovingly packing up his spiked half plate. He looks down at the disgusting green armour. "Hrmph, this is not iron and I'm going to have to do penance for this, but let's give it a try."

+1 half-plate gives an AC of 9 while +2 scale mail gives an AC of 7, but with the anti-giant properties. But it's not like they're gonna miss a single swing anyways.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Quill made it about halfway back to the others before he felt the flight spell wearing off. He landed easily, then took off at a jog back to the group. Once there, he saw Storn stripping off his plate to don the giant nail scale armor. The armor, well fit for a dwarf of Nargrym's stature, was a bit tight on the large human.

It was another hour or more before you caught up to Kipa, the last half mile or so going slowly because of the need to be quiet. Finally, Quill spotted Kipa's sign and you made your way over to the halfling. By this time, the sun was getting low in the sky. Kipa explained that the ogres were tiring, and had decided to stop for the day. They had made camp in a small clearing, with a fire and everything. He had not yet tried to get close enough to hear what they were saying, or see the details. Kipa did confirm that there were 6 humans connected by a chain, five men and a woman.

"I'm SANDER! We don't all look alike," Sander protests. "We're not humans!"

He looks with distaste at the new armor.

"I have an extract that might help, but I didn't make any of them today," he says.

Can give Storn extracts of cat's grace and barkskin to up his AC a bit if he keeps the new armor ... but not today.

Edited below, as DM Bigrin ninja'd me (also
"We should probably attack now, since they'll be able to see in the dark better than most of us, I think," he notes. "Maybe we should try to free the prisoners? I have something that could make you invisible, Kipa, and you could sneak in and unlock them so they can run away when we attack... "

If agreed, will use alchemical allocation extract and invisibility on him. Could also use that on Storn, but I think Kipa's a better plan. Also sets him up for sneak attack and flanking right off the bat.

Lol@Sander.

Quill explains the situation as he sees it and intends to sneak closer so that he can get off some volleys from the dark into an ogre back or two.

Quill will sneak to the right, waiting for his chance to fire. He thinks killing the ogres is more important freeing the slaves at this point. He can shoot over 100’, so doesn’t feel the need to get too close.

Stealth rolls, then, please
