GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

Kogar nods and grunts when Droguk indicates the direction they need to travel. We go now? Crush faeries? He asks impatiently, not sure that others are coming.

Elder Safander tends to the Yuln's wounds and has men escort the Ulfric Man to the local apothecary. "Bed and rest there will do him well" he says.

There are still a couple hours of daylight left, as the Summer sun still has it's presence, despite the cold. Although the unnatural winter seems to be winning out, as the days go by.

Riding out now then? You can definitely make the site where they were attacked within an hour or two at most.

Gii returns to the Stoat within a few minutes, carrying a significantly heavier burden. A well-worn quarterstaff in hand, a morningstar hanging from his belt, a slightly too-large breastplate worn over his bulky winter clothing, and a heavily-laden satchel all seem to weigh down the Aasimar man, but he does not appear terribly strained. "I am ready when you are," he states to the others, his eyes glimmering behind his glasses. Though his face is passive, he seems almost excited.

Logarithm is fairly obviously ready to depart at once. Any that know the man from their time in the village, though, know that he'll listen to others. He's surprisingly aware of his handicap.

Stopping in his tracks, "There were others, I believe. We will wait. But not long. If we wait too long, the Irrisen demon could get away."

As the rest of the volunteers show up, Droguk finds it odd the bookish fellow is going. Shrugging, "Time to move. We've lost enough time." Droguk then resumes heading southwest.

Logarithm, the Big Blue Bug Guy

About 6 miles southwest of town, as advertised by the Ulfen man, there are two carriages. One is turned on it's side, and the other still stands, both are visibly damaged by the attack.

It is very close to the border wood, and the air is noticeably colder, with snow blanketing the area. The ground is littered with slain humans and horses. Further south of the carriages, more bodies lie around what appears to be a frozen statue of a man holding a sword.

Cyrus follows suit with the others in the group, being careful of his steps and his surroundings once they reach the site of the ambush. He is clearly concerned, seeing all the bodies lying about, unsure of whether or not it's ok to believe the ambush is really over.

Seeing the others have the strange ice statue well in hand, Cyrus approaches the nearest carriage to their position, wanting to see if anything is worth investigating with their condition or if they may still have some non-looted supplies on hand that could be useful to their quest.

If Kogar has iny inkling of an idea that this is a person instead of a statue, he's going to stop Kobad from touching it. That's up to the GM. The following IG stuff may not happen. Ask Pez. Well, I think he does, but that may be too meta. Seems very trope-y.

@Kogar: You notice a face of agony beneath the icy encasing. The man wears a breastplate and holds a big, very nice looking sword in his hands. If he is sleeping, it isn't a pleasant one!

@Nelosse: You quickly realize it is not a statue, but a man frozen in ice. It seems to be some sort of "natural magic" as far as you can tell. It certainly was done to him, not by chance! He wears a breastplate with a Taldan insignia on it.

@Gii: Like Nelosse, you sense magic in the air, but not from a specific source. More like traces of it.

@Cyrus: one of the carriages is overturned, and the other, is upright with signs of battle and damage. However, you notice that the door of the upright carriage, is held shut with a spear wedged inside of the handles.

@Droguk: It is clearly not a statue. The man was killed by being frozen solid. He holds a nice looking great sword however, which catches your eye.

Cyrus seems to focus in on the upright carriage, staring at it for a few moments, wondering what circumstance led the spear to be wedged inside the handle. Seeing no other immediate danger, and being cautionary by nature, he calls to the others, gesturing to the spear and taking the butt of it in both hands, ready to give it a good, hard tug when the others are close at hand...just in case there's trouble.

I have no fire magics strong enough to release him from the ice. Do any of you?" After verifying that the situation with the statue is in hand, Nelossë will move to back up Cyrus, cold-iron longsword in hand.

"The Irrisen demon did this." His attention focused on the sword, Droguk misses Cyrus's call and grabs the weapon in an attempt to break it free.

Kobad melts away at the Ice man, loosening the sword he is holding, which due to it's weight, breaks away and falls to the ground.

Droguk picks up the blade and studies it. "This may serve well." He swings it a few times, testing it's balance.

Can I tell what type of metal it's made of?

@Droguk: The Greatsword appears to be made of steel. However, it is balanced well, and the blade was made by someone of great skill.
It is masterwork.

After Cyrus yanks the spear out, the doors fly open and 4 of the poor souls that used to guard the Lady, are now zombies that stammer out ready to attack any living thing to feed their undead hunger.

@Nelosse: Cyrus was in front of the door, so the spell if aimed there would cause him to possibly fall. Also, sure exploding crits are fun.

Nelosse, dispatches of the other zombie with ease. She slams down the longsword into the throat of the zombie, slicing it's throat and chest open, breaking through bone and cartilage with ease, allowing it's organs to spill out. Upon pulling her blade out, she twist and flicks the blade and severs most of the upper body from the lower half, as the creature falls over unable to function anymore.

Kogar, inspired by the carnage apparently, charges in and crumples the other undamaged zombie under the blow of his blade. It literally explodes from the impact, and blood and guts fly out in all directions.

One zombie remains. With a broken neck.

Cyrus is next. Also, don't worry so much about posting order. It's better to do it out of order on pbp imo. I will recap the round and adjust actions if needed.
