Saldoc Tisbane |
Oh, he moves in to try to get stuff out of the water. I was thinking that in my head and assumed you could read my mind, LOL.
GM Aarvid |
The party rushes into the new room as it quickly fills with water. Meredith tries to close and reseal the door, but the torrent is too much for her.
Saldoc tries to grab as many documents or books as he can.
Goldur or Ruth, any action before we move on?
Goldur Twinthunders |
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth rushes into the room last and tries to push the door closed.
Str Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
GM Aarvid |
Neither of the women are able to close the door while the men rush around collecting scrolls and tomes. They are not able to save all of them by far.
Eventually the water stops rushing and the entire room and hallway equalize to a shallow bog.
GM Aarvid |
By the looks of the titles, many now soggy and ruined, the dictionarium you now occupy contains many books, with more language primers, linguistic treatises, and records of inscriptions than anything else.
One of the books Goldur holds is a traveler’s dictionary for translating Sylvan into Common. Otherwise, there does not appear to be anything in the room you can use or salvage.
Meredith Une |
"Ugh." Meredith almost slides into the water. "Well, that was a mess." She peeks at Goldur's books. "Huh, is that...Sylvan? Um. Yeah. I think."
"If there's nothing else here, let's move on..." Meredith heads towards another door.
GM Aarvid |
Returning back to the door which had the dagger and note jammed into it, Meredith can tell the door to this chamber is closed but does not have a padlock.
GM Aarvid |
Assuming one of you opens the door, a rush of escaping water reduces this area to a shallow bog. Within you see a bizarre sight.
A thin waterfall drops from a grate in the ceiling fifteen feet above, creating a curtain in the doorway to this flooded room. Beyond, mounted animal heads glower from virtually every inch of every wall. Stuffed specimens also lurk beneath the dark water, their antlers, horns, and claws breaking the surface here and there. In the eastern corner, a large gilded cage sits mostly submerged, its waters thick with embalmed birds bobbing at the surface.
Virml, the man you saw upstairs about 30 minutes ago, languishes within the locked birdcage.
Three creatures who now torment Virml as his watery death steadily draws nearer. One of the smaller two calls to the largest in a high pitched voice.
Gormandelle, we have more teeth to add to the fun!
Their leader turns, currently she is perched on a stuffed gorgon’s head mounted near the ceiling. She crams her mouth full of mismatched teeth.
Yes, my daughters, we shall have a wonderful party!” a pair of nearly toothless creatures flitter about. They have extracted most of Virml’s teeth but they eagerly turn you your group with glee.
Not sure I will be able to run this encounter from the airport/hotel, but figured I'd get it started
Meredith Une |
Meredith frowns and reaches for her scimitar. "Yeah, not how I expected to finish this."
Goldur Twinthunders |
I assume we're coming in from the left?
"How did he get down here?" Goldur wonders aloud as he pulls out a wand with one hand and a hammer with the other. "Those wounds will be painful. I can't grow his teeth back, but I can help with the pain."
If we're on initiative, I'll spend my first turn drawing a weapon and a CLW wand.

===Init - Round 1 ===
17-Flying daughters (invisible?)
13-Saldoc
11+Mother-(sitting high on statue)
11-Goldur
10-Ruth
2-Meredith
GM Aarvid |
Both of the smaller, flying creatures speak a word and disappear.
Saldoc goes and then the "mother" sitting high above the water in the back of the room.
Saldoc Tisbane |
Saldoc moves into the room and fires and arrow at the enemy perched near the ceiling!
Bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 for Arrow, with sneak if FF: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3
GM Aarvid |
Saldoc moves forward, drawing his bow as he sloshes through the water. Releasing an arrow at the perched "mother", his arrow strikes true, however it bounces off her skin without leaving even a bruise.
Oh girls, we have a feisty one. I just love a man with a bow. And look at those teeth! Delicious!
She wiggles her nose and says a few words
Saldoc make a DC17 Will save please
The giggles of the other two flying creatures can be heard near the door but cannot be seen.
Party up...except Saldoc-and his will save.
Movement through the knee-deep water is difficult, but not requiring a swim check unless you are tiny.
Also, Saldoc and Meredith spot the mostly toothless Virmil while he remains trapped in the birdcage. He seems dazed and is partially submerged and surrounded by stuffed birds in his watery cage.
Meredith Une |
With her Cold Iron Scimitar on hand, she peers at the mother, trying to identify her race and any defenses she may have. Saldoc's arrow did nothing, indicating either very thick skin or some kind of immunity.
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Meredith notices the woman's spellcasting and frowns.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"Saldoc, she's trying to charm you. No woman's worth your teeth!"
Meredith calls upon the strength of the mighty shark to enhance her strength. Casting Bull's Strength
"We're coming, Virmil!"
GM Aarvid |
Meredith identified the mother as a Fey known as a Nixie. Creatures most at home in a bog such as now exists in these rooms.
Meredith Une |
"Nixies. Great. Grab your cold iron." She looks at Saldoc quizzically. "And ignore her charms."
GM Aarvid |
"And you girl must be one of those busybody druids. I never cared for your type.
You just leave my new friend alone ." she motions to Saldoc.
Goldur Twinthunders |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
I do hope he has the mental wherewithall to resist her spells, Goldur thinks to himself.
Draw hammer and wand.
Ruth Rubani |
Hearing the combat Ruth draws her sword as she moves around the corner and peers into the room. Seeing the creature on the statue and Meredith with her weapon draw Ruth extends her hand in a fist and shouts. "Yor!"
Telekinetic Fist
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Force Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM Aarvid |
Goldur draws his weapon and wand while Ruth casts a fist of force at the mother creature. However, she dodges it quite handily.
Gormandelle calls down to Saldoc from her perch.
Dearest, I am afraid your associates mean to harm my daughters and I. We have not hurt anyone yet. Could you please try to reason with them before they do something we will all regret?
Nixie mother readies her small crossbow.
You also hear some sort of arcane chanting close to the doorway, and a bit above.
The words being spoken are similar to a SLEEP spell
Party goes...
Meredith Une |
"Saldoc! She's trying to drown fellow Pathfinder Virmil, here." Meredith continues forward. "Can you help him out?"
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
"Everyone spread out! They're trying to put us to sleep."
"Nixies and their stupid tricks..."
Is that cage made of wood? If it is, Meredith would take a swing at it. Otherwise she'll double move up to the Nixie mother.
Cold Iron Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
Ruth Rubani |
Hearing Meredith's warning Ruth shoot another fist of force at the only enemy she can see....
Telekinetic Fist
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Force Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
... then retreats around the corner trying to avoid the sleep spell effects.
Saldoc Tisbane |
No! That isn't possible, she wouldn't do such a thing! I'm sure there is a simple explanation for all of this. Put down your weapons, stop fighting!
Goldur Twinthunders |
"Not hurt anyone yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time," Goldur grumbles as he moves to the cage. "Just give you a chance, right?"
Double move
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Aarvid |
Meredith determines the invisible daughter is casting sleep.
Saldoc makes a feeble plea to stop his friends from attacking his new friend.
Ruth's fist of force strikes the nixie this time.
Ouch! See! I told you they were trying to hurt me. as she calls down to Saldoc
Meredith ponders smashing the birdcage, but it is metal and not wooden. So she and Goldur slosh through the water to approach the nixie mother. Virml appears to be taking on more water, but should not drown for a couple minutes you think.
As Meredith predicts, one of the daughters becomes visible upon finishing her spell.
DC13 Will vs SLEEP on Goldur and Meredith
The tiny fairy becomes visible near the doorway above it.
The nixie remains on her perch 10' up and tries her charming voice on either Goldur or Meredith if either makes the sleep save.
DC17 Will vs CHARM on Goldur or Meredith
Oddly, the other daughter does not appear. Ruth heard some fluttering and the other seems to have flown away, mumbling something about 'smaller table adjustment'
Party up...DC10 climb to reach the nixie.
Meredith Une |
Will Save vs Sleep: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Will Save vs Charm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Resist Nature's Lure is level 4. Great.
Burning my GM Reroll, here
Reroll: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 = 26
"Stop trying to put me to sleep, that isn't going to..." Meredith rubs her eyes."Uh...jeez, did I get this wrong?" She looks up at the Nixie Mother. "Wait. No, that's stupid! You trying to charm me?"
Waiting for Goldur's saves versus sleep before I wake him up or start climbing.
"Saldoc, get Virml out of there!" Meredith is clearly annoyed with Mama Nixie's antics.
GM Aarvid |
Meredith fights off the slumbering affect, but is almost convinced the Nixie is a wonderful feymanatarian....almost. :-)
Saldoc Tisbane |
Goldur Twinthunders |
Will vs sleep: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 = 23
Will vs charm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 +2 if it's a spell or spell-like ability, additional +4 if it's language-dependent
Hm, if it's both of those things then I just made it.
Meredith Une |
Noting Goldur hasn't fallen asleep, Meredith begins the climb up to Mama Nixie.
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth rushes into the room to help here friends.
GM Aarvid |
Goldur also resists the lure and the lullaby.
Ruth sloshes into the room, under the gaze of the flying daughter.
Meredith starts to climb the wall and reaches 10' up on the wall opposite to the nixie.
Climbing requires empty hands, and she is considered FlatFooted
Goldur has an action, although Saldoc moves up and tries to restrain or distract the dwarf.
NO! Leave her alone! She isn't hurting anyone. Help me with the cage, Goldur! Please!
Goldur you have an action remaining. All but Saldoc probably notices a wry smile on the face of the nixie as she looks down from her loft.
Meredith Une |
"When I get up there, I swear..." Meredith continues to grumble her way up the pillar.
Goldur Twinthunders |
"What d'yeh think I'm doin', anyway?" Goldur growls at Saldoc, his dwarven accent showing through in his frustration. He pokes his wand through the bars of the cage.
Cure light wounds vs Virml: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Darn.
GM Aarvid |
Meredith climbs and Goldur cures Virml. The man seems to stir, then his eyes grow big in shock and then he reaches to his mouth to find half his teeth missing...then he realizes he is trapped in a flooding room within a cage and screams.
HAHHH!!! Who in the blazes are you! How did I get here! HELPPPPPPP!
Saldoc calls up to Meredith.
Meredith, come down and help us with him! She is not going to hurt anyone up there.
You can both come down and we can all just get along wonderfully I am sure.
The nixie shoots at Meredith from across the room with her small crossbow.
You should have listened to him!
small crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 vs FF AC for dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The other daughter flies into Ruth's square and attacks.
AOO if Ruth threatens/has a weapon
Naahhhrrr. Gimme yer teeth, woman!
bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 for dmg: 1d4 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0 DC11 Paralysis
Party goes...
Meredith Une |
"We can get along, huh? I'm sure that's what Virml thought, too!" The crossbow bolt digs into Meredith's shoulder. "Yeah, Mama Nixie here seems like the peaceful type!" Sarcasm dripping, Meredith pulls out her scimitar and swings.
Cold Iron Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
GM Aarvid |
Meredith (and others), you'd have to remain along the wall...standing/holding onto mounted animal head/trophies 10' above the water.
So I adjusted your position on the wall. You can stand on the heads, but still need one hand to hold, so no shield or casting while blade in hand
Meredith, holding on precariously, manages to just connect with her iron blade and slashes a very deep wound on the nixie. Blood drips down into the water.
OUCH! You ugly hag! to Meredith.
Guessing her new lacky's name Saldoc, dear one, stop her!
Goldur Twinthunders |
"Rest easy, boy, we're tryin' t'help you!" Turning to the more immediate threat, Goldur attempts to apply his hammer directly to Ruth's problem.
Warhammer vs tooth fairy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Meredith Une |
"Hey Saldoc. Why don't you ask your good friend here why she ripped Virml's teeth out and locked him in a cage? I'm sure she has a reasonable explanation." Meredith smiles. "Don't ya, Mama?"
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth swings her greatsword as the nixie flies into to attack her.
AOO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 = 8
Standard MW Greatsword so DR will come into effect.
Then sends an arcane charge up her blade and swings again.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 + 1 = 7
Now with Arcane Strike her weapon is considered magical.
GM Aarvid |
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Saldoc is unable to shake off the bewitching ways of the nixie, despite her shooting Meredith.
She is just trying to protect herself. We do not know what this Virml did?
He probably caused all this flooding and deserved to be locked up before he did more damage.
Ruth's sword catches the smaller toothy fairy as it closes, and although her heavy blade does not seem to penetrate its tough hide fully, it is enough to bat the creature into the wall, knocking it out.
Virml mumbles something with a swollen, half-empty mouth.
Whhahttth? Iammmmma innmmootthhhenththh! MDoowwnntthh truutthht heeerrrr!
Goldur and Ruth you can change actions if desired
Meredith Une |
"Are you serious?"
Meredith considers leaping down and slapping Saldoc, but she knows it isn't his fault. And she's seen this kind of stuff before. It just made her more annoyed.
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth inspects the cage to try and see if she can open it. "Shut up Saldoc! Just help me get him out of the cage and we can settle this once everyone is safe."
GM Aarvid |
Goldur heals the caged man, while Ruth inspects the cage.
Meredith calls down from her perch to Saldoc.
The nixie mother, seeing her unconsious and bleeding daughter floating in the water below, gets angry.
I REALLY suggest you start to see things MY WAY!
concentrate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 vs DC17 defensive casting
She once again tries to "convince" Meredith to be her BFF.
Meredith DC17 save vs her final Charm, then Party goes...
Meredith Une |
"If you think I'm gonna calm down after you shot me like that..."
I assume I get a +4 bonus because she attacked me already.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 4 = 21
"That's the problem with fey. My way or no way."
Cold Iron Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
Balancing herself on the shelves, Meredith swings at the Nixie mother another time.
