The road out of town then leads past an old, unused path to the monolith if you are so inclined to head there now. The way there is overgrown with clingy thorn bushes and weeds, but it is not unpassable. As you approach the barren hillside on which the monolith sits, you can see it even from a distance as it towers above other features of the land here. The ancient Kellid structure is limned in red light as a flash of carmine lightning illuminates it. The flash of light reveals a gaping hole in the slope, looking much like a toothless mouth in the hillside. Several dozen feet away rises a low mound of dirt and loose rock.
GM JAFO, how would you respond to this post as a player?

I'd approach cautiously, investigate the area (perception), check for tracks and such (survival), do any applicable detects, search for signs of the bloody murders mentioned in the note and look for Kellid glyphs as per the note from Dr. Q, check out the hole and the signs of digging, as well. There's a lot that can be done here... but this is essentially the boxed text following knowledge and gather info rolls in the mod. *shrug*

In a face-to-face game, would you pause in the same place and look at your players expectantly?
We don't have anything to react to right now, so you're going to get seven posts saying "I go down and look around" *rolls Perception*
If you put the obvious checks (Perception and Survival) in spoilers, we can be a lot more descriptive with how we approach and what we investigate. You can call for more specialized checks from there.

Hi. Just a heads up. Over the last couple of days we have had a cyclone coming through about 600 miles north of my home. The cyclone has been downgraded to a tropical storm so that is good.I am still around, but they are predicting 60 to 100 inches of rain today so if I disappear I am busy rescuing my stuff from the flood water. Bot if you need to.

Yeah, we are fine. We live in an area with many rivers and creeks and it is not unusual for the low lying bridges and things to flood once every year or 2. My house is above any previous flood lines so we should be fine. The biggest problem is keeping the kids entertained inside because school is cancelled to. think of it as an Australian Snow Day :)

board has been buggy for me all day - this is my first chance to check in... sorry for any delay... every time I've gotten to my campaign page and clicked on the new posts link, it would go to the goblin page... sigh... Seems stable now, so I will go check on gameplay now...
Oh, and just so you know, I've picked up some kind of but - horrible cough and headache... seeing doctor tomorrow, so may not check in til late tomorrow night.

got diagnosed with bronchitis today... not so bad as it could be... but on the upside, I'm pretty much home for the next few days mostly, except for a few exceptions, friday night and saturday midday... Awww, hope you feel better soon! I used to get bronchitis about once a year through elementary and middle school so I feel your pain :(

just fyi, Fran - you show your perception is +1, but should be +3 if Mr Sunshine is within arm's reach... just a friendly reminder about that 'alertness' feat thing in case you forgot.

Is this Round 1 or Pre-Round 1? Literally no one has written "Round 1" on their post... lol, so I'm a little confused.
If this is Round 1, Elena will not get her bonus from "Total Defense" correct? Instead, Elena will benefit from the action in Round 2? Is that how combat will resolve since Elena goes after the Enemies?

This is a surprise round. If you make the Perception check, you get a single standard (or move) action. Until she acts, Elena is flat-footed and can't benefit from Total Defense.

@GM JAFO - Thanks! Most of the time I don't count the extra +2 because I operate under the assumption that my cat friend isn't in my square (aka right under my feet) when we're walking. If I've got him in a familiar satchel or am otherwise carrying him, I do make sure to count it though :)
