Aljohar fumbles with a reluctant buckle and glances at the newcomers in their view. "The troops are mustering. Hope Penseive can hold on. That didn't look good." She glances up at Thenji. "Of course, I have seen people survive that I didn't expect to. Maybe Attus got to him in time." She frowns and bends to her work.

"Hurry that damned mule up, can you? When this is done, I'm going to get out and run faster than that blasted beast."

Main Street: Uthar continues moving north, followed by his company.

A volley of random arrows from the townsfolk lands among the bandits. One of the causes a cry of surprise more than pain from a spearman.

A spearman sheds his shield and takes bow and quiver of the fallen archer. He and the bandit leader take positions on the porch near the alleyway and return fire across the street.

West Street:

The cart trundles on, bumping over humps or stones in the dirt street, pitching when it hits a hole. Aljohar and Thenji complete his armor.

Up ahead, not quite 100 feet away, the three spearmen look around then close ranks shield to shield as they step into the street. A wagon emerges from the alley behind them and swings around the corner toward the north. Another spearman joins the skirmish line on the street end.

The boy running behind your wheel loses ground gradually and ceases to run. He's left behind watching you roll northward toward the bandits.

To try to speed this up, I am going to collapse the initiative of all the NPCs. Don't worry about initiative between each other. Actions will occur in the order in which you post, unless stated in your post that you want to delay until after someone else.

Round 7,Main Street, continued.

Peter Roujon, Amanda Wolfheart, and the three old veterans begin a charge toward the bandit leader and bowman. Peter has picked up Pensive's sword and leads the charge. Amanda takes the left flank. As they close, the girl stops and throws her hands forward. Fire flashes and sprays the two bandits.

The charge is slowed as they mount the porch, but battle is joined.

Lydia:
That's new. She has never demonstrated any propensity toward magic.

Round 8, Main street.

The riders urge their horses into a gallop, the bowman delaying slightly to let the lefthand rider cross to the right. One drives forward and lowers his lance to catch Jamorin in the back. A shout from Stephan warns the monk to look back just before impact.

Lance v Jam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 .... damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

The other lance wielding rider swings his horse around and challenges Uthar. "C'mon out in the street and fight, cobblehead."

And the bowman barely slows as he draws on Lydia on looses on the run.

Shortbow v Lydia: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 .... damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Lancers end at 910. Mounted bowman at 900.

What the hell? She's never let on...but she KNEW! That's where she's been going, learning to harness her talent I'll bet!

Startled by Amanda's display of sorcery, Lydia almost forgets to keep low as the shot from the rider strikes the roof-tiles close by. She spins and looses back him almost on the run, then presses on over the roof toward the main action. She's forced to slow down thanks to the steep and convoluted roofing, but keeps moving just behind the crests of the houses.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 1 = 9 Should be in Lydia's first range increment so no adjustment, that should hurt. He's got to pass within 30' of Lydia, and she ends in 875 within 30' so I'm including Point Blank Shot in her attack above.

Acrobatics (DC12): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Difficult terrain, only 15' moved to 875

Next roof: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Difficult terrain, for the sake of argument I will assume each "roof" to be one movement regardless of what that movement is.

Though his swing isn't hard enough to keep the ex-rider upon the floor and Karl cannot slide out of way of the cavalry sabre quick enough. In the wake the sword leaves a deep crimson trail down the merchants shoulder, just missing his clavicle.

From the corner of his eye whilst Karl twists away in pain, he notices Peter leading the charge & his heart sinks. 'Blast, I knew he'd try some thing like that!'

His immediate thoughts are to leap on his assailants horse and ride away, but to leave the vicious man at his back would be to invite another more fatal cut. So he swings the bucket at the mans' sword arm.

"I think you are the one who'll be im-pail-ed, not I" He jeers back to the fellow.

so she's north of Uthar when she reaches the main street. She watches him advance toward the challenging rider. The riders are at 900 and 910, 30' north of her. Uthar ends in 905.

Aljohar arrives at the main street in time to watch Uthar move up and unload a ponderous swing at one of the riders who nudges his horse aside with his knees to slip the blow.

Uthar misses.

Jam misses also. With great description. I won't try to add anything to that.

Karl strikes his foe twice with the ungainly bucket. On the second blow, the rider's sword blocks the bucket handle, but the bucket proper arcs around the blade and craches into the man's head, instantly raising a bleeding knot. The man stumbles toward his horse.

West street:

Townsfolk, half-armored or clutching a weapon start to emerge from their houses or shops. They look at the bandits, the wagons, our three heroes in the cart and try to size things up.

A bit of luck there, Syrus. The magic spooked him.

Main street:

Karl's bucket skims off the bandit's back, causing him to falter but he grabs the stirrup to steady himself and begins urging his horse forward. He tries to leap aboard the moving horse, but falls short and slides, still running alongside the horse to the ground.

Just missed, Karl. Bandit's 30' away. And could still try a running mount next turn.

He tugs on the reins hard, trying to get the horse to turn around. If there's an alleyway to turn onto, swell, otherwise he will just park the wagon so that it gives Brawny some cover.

Thenji's tactic seems to work. At least his dagger lodges in a spearman's gut. He clears the wagon easily and lands mere feet from the spearmen.

Syrus' magic missile seems to hit its target hard, but she stays on her feet. He swerves the cart into an alley way.

Townsfolk and the bandit archers in the wagon exchange fire to little effect.

Two bandit spearmen charge Thenji. Four more spearmen run out of the alley. One stops to check on the two injured (non-charging) spearmen. The other three turn and dash north toward the milling herd of horses.

Amanda steps toward the middle of the street, looking for an angle and unleashes another sheet of fire at the spearmen to little effect.

Seeing the rider spur his mount away, Karl looks at him darkly. His heavy brow creases in annoyance, especially since the extra speed the horse could give him might be all that'd save Peters' life. However, quickly anger dissipated into a steely resolve and he starts to run - legs pounding he runs past the stalls up the street.

Right you are, Dabbler. Thanks for the catch. Uthar, round 9?

Pierced by two spears, Thenji finds himself regretting getting out of bed this morning. He'd always thought he'd die alone somewhere after finally being hunted down. He pictured a grove of cherry trees shedding their blossoms on him. He was pretty sure he'd heard that was a romantic way to die somewhere...?

Is this the way it ends? Here? Everyone will know...

Grunting, the rogue pushes one spear aside with the hand clutching the dagger and then pulls his wounded shoulder back from the other's point. Feeling their tips tear his skin is nauseating, his blood begins to leak out and soak into the tunic the widow had said made him look more reputable than some of his other clothes,

"That hurt, you buggers!" he growls through gritted teeth. Over their shoulders he sees four more of their ilk come running out of the alley. "This day just keeps getting better."

Seeing them turn and run in the opposite direction, he lets out a huff of relief which immediately makes him wince.

Dammit...

He looks for an opening to strike one of the pair attacking him.

Criticality!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Finish him!: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Following his apparently devastating counterattack, Thenji twirls the blade to remove some of the blood. He steps diagonally away from his attackers with the intention of moving closer to the cart he had just abandoned. If those other spearmen decided to double back and join the fight, Thenji had no illusions how he, Lino, and Syrus would fare.

Thenji takes a 5 ft step back diagonally away towards the cart if that's possible based on his position.

Jamorin's rider sweeps his longsword from its scabbard. As the horse struggles to regain its feet, he grabs the reins and tries to lead it away from the monk, Uthar, and the oncoming townsfolk.

Karl's rider kicks his horse north, then veers right down an alley toward the eastern street.

Dol Dorn's Ass! Jam tripped a f*****g horse! Lydia grins fiercely as the battle starts to sway the townsfolk's way. Aljohar's in the fray too, this is going better. Now to deal with Yellowbow first, then that sword-wielding b*****d before they get away.

At that moment Uthar takes down one of the lancers.

"Get 'em Uther!" she shouts encouragement, "give the scum hell!"

Then Yellowfeather sends two shafts Amanda's way and Lydia feels her anger rising and fear in her gut as well, as she races across the next roof to keep pace (move 30' north to 920) draws and looses without thinking.

Whether by strategy or sheer luck Jam managed to emerge from underneath the horse without getting crushed he does take a hoof in the stomach though "Oooof right in the bread basket..." He mutters out.

If the horse is mountable:

Ride fast mount: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Failed so mounting takes a move action

Jam's a little clumsy but he manages to hop up into the saddle. "Ya horse ya!" He attempts to guide the horse forward in the direction of the spearmen. He flashes a grin at the dismounted rider "Thanks friend, I'll try to take good care of 'im" The young lad flinches when Aljohar's bullet crashes into the rider "Ooh that looked like it hurt, you should run, Al's got a temper." Hold on Amanda

Not sure if the horse is up enough to mount, or if the rider holding the reins will stop him, if a roll or something is needed let me know. If he can Jam will ride 50' further towards the spearmen, should put him at 945. He and the horse would provoke an AOO for moving out of the rider's threatened square.

If not able to mount the horse:

Flurry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Lol well I'm consistent at least
Flurry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Jam moves up to attack the rider again, and true to his usual klutziness he swings well wide, but he steps in following through with the momentum and his head crashes into the other man, in a rather painful looking headbutt.

Good thing you spent the action point, Dabbler. But remember you won't get any more until 3rd level.

Jam, the rider had led his horse away, but it's easily within a move action. You can mount the horse as your second move action, but you'll have to wrest control away from the bridle-holding rider with opposing ride checks or a strength check opposed by his ride. Or you can take the attack listed in your 'unmountable' option. Your choice.

Female Shifter Hunter 3 / AC15 / HP 24/24 Perception +9 (+9) Sense Motive +3

Him shooting Lydia's sister meant she HAD to get his attention, so an action point well spent!

"Using a fancy bow to shoot children doesn't make you a great archer, Yellow-Belly!" Lydia taunts, then ducks down and darts further along the rooftops. Forerunner for next round's action: she will move and shoot again. As she has cover from the rooftop her AC should be 20, plus she keeps ducking down and shifting position. Her tactic is to have him looking for her, but not necessarily shooting at her.
