Map of Korvosa I also fully acknowledge that I'm ripping off someone else's hard work for this. I simply consider this a sign of approval.

I suppose we can say Marcus saw me get ready and grabbed my fist as I was rearing back for the blow...

That is sort of what I assumed initially. In any case, there's no sense in retconning all of that happened above.

Edmund the Tainted wrote:
"I understand what you are saying, but it also seems you think he should just get away without any repercussions."

"Not our job," Hiram mutters in a more conciliatory tone. "At least not until the Lady says so."

He turns annoyedly towards the choir of disapproving nobles and lawyers. "Enough wailing! He is stubborn, not deaf."

Marcus' powerful fingers remain locked around Edmund's crimson wrist. His voice is a harsh grated whisper.

"Swallow your pride. Sir. We're here to help protect the Lady Dressarosa, not stir up the locals. No matter how much they deserve it."

He lets go of Edmund's wrist. "Let's just walk away. Come." There's a moment as he casts about for some conciliatory gesture. "You haven't bought me that drink yet, after all."

"This time I will agree with all of you."

He nods and flexes his muscular frame. "Count yourself blessed, simpleton. My friends are far kinder than I. As you all say; let us get back to the embassy house. I do not need this irritation further."

"Let us return to the house and see what our mistress might have for us..."

"Agreed. It will be much easier to place everyone's affairs in order from a quiet location."

The drunkard would lumber off, muttering under his breath the entire time. Whether the lot of you return to your residence or go to Citadel Volshyenek, there won't be much of a problem.

However, the sight greeting you once you get home is... Insulting, in a word. It seems that someone has been busy while the lot of you were out and about, and has coated a good deal of the house with what appears to be imp droppings. If it weren't for the fact that you had to live here, the thoroughness of the coating might be considered impressive.

Oh, and the even left a polite note pinned to the door with a cold iron dagger.

The note, written in Abyssal:
Your days are numbered. Go back and hide behind your devils, or face the consequences for threatening one of my Lambs.

The Shepard

Edmund shakes his head as he looks around the place and snatches the note off the door with his tail, flipping the dagger over in his hand absently as he tries to make sense of it.

But as it's Abyssal and not Infernal or Common, it all looks like gibberish to him. "What in the hells kind of gobbledygook chicken scratch is this? Leandric, Sclivian, you two are words men, what does it say?"

Mr. Ruttle takes one look at it and sneers. "I'm sorry, but I don't truck with demons."

DM, does it look like a job someone could have pulled off with a bucket of manure and plenty of agility, or is it clearly supernatural in the extensiveness of its spread?

Marcus places his hands on his hips and shakes his head. "Looks like someone is intent on insulting our Lady and Cheliax both. Someone with a juvenile sense of humor."

Rubbing at the stubble that's starting to show along his jawline, he turns to Sclivian. "How quickly can we have a work crew out here to clean this mess up? We can't have our Lady returning to this."

Sclivian looks at the color of the sky. "Likely tomorrow, but I'll get things started right away."

Hiram looks impassively at the mess, mentally coming to terms with the fact that this lapse in vigilance will likely result in punishment.

"Talk with the neighbors," he rumbles to no one in particular, but clearly not referring to himself. "Someone must have seen who did this."

The Lady will not be happy, but we might as well get her some answers.

Male Human Unchained Rogue (Charlatan)

Leandric takes the note from Edmund and gives the letters a long, hard look. "I don't speak Abyssal either. Never had the need to learn it. Maybe I can figure something out though, some commonalities with languages I do speak."

Hmm, I don't know. Could be enough to at least figure out the writer is threatening us.

This is definitely something that could be pulled off with a bucket and free time, though considering the city you're in, you can't exactly rule out magic. And despite Leandric's own extensive knowledge of languages, you can't quite peg what even the gist of the letter is. If you wish to speak with the neighbors, go ahead and roll me some diplomacy checks, as well as telling me what general direction you're inquiring.

I don't have prestidigitation prepared right now, but once I do, the cleaning should be simple enough. I'll also prepare erase to remove any extra graffiti that might exist underneath this.

Male Human (Garundi) Warpriest of Moloch 1 | AC 17 | HP 14/14 | Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +5 | CMB +3, CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3

Hiram leans over Leandric's shoulder, squinting at the odd scribbles on the piece of paper.

One of our more respectable, less obviously foreign-looking party members might want to handle the talking.

And Hiram now gets the general gist of the note. Obviously, due to the nature of his worship, he's more used to dealing with Infernal, and is thus able to draw some similarities between it and the language of the note. "threat," "Lambs," and "devils" in particular are mostly same, with only very minor changes.

Male Human (Garundi) Warpriest of Moloch 1 | AC 17 | HP 14/14 | Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +5 | CMB +3, CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3

Hiram reads out loud what he can understand, thoughtfully tugging at his long beard.

"This is not just any threat," he mutters. "It is meant for us, specifically."

"Tellis was always a man able to find out things from people. Perhaps he could inquire as to the whereabouts or more information of this 'Shepherd' person."

"This Shepherd moves quickly. We've been in town, what, a few hours? One might almost suspect he knew we were coming." Marcus' frown speaks volumes. "If he had time to prepare for this, I'm worried he might have prepared a surprise for Lady Dressarosa too."

Male Human (Garundi) Warpriest of Moloch 1 | AC 17 | HP 14/14 | Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +5 | CMB +3, CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3

"The note says nothing about the Lady," Hiram rumbles. "We pissed this Sheperd off, somehow."

Even as he uses the plural, he glares pointedly at Edmund. The peasant hero was right in that a planned attack seemed unlikely. It had to have something to do with the scene they caused at the tavern. For the dozenth time that day, Hiram curses himself for not making everyone stay at the house. Still, he forces himself to focus on the present. The threat had to be dealt with...

"Lambs are young sheep, yes?" he asks the group, looking around to see if anyone is following his line of thought. In truth, he was unused to talking so much, and hoped someone would come to the same conclusions he had and save him the trouble. Chelaxians had a knack for claiming the fruits of their 'inferiors' as their own, and Hiram was happy to let them think themselves smarter for it.

Sclivian huffed. "In my opinion, it is most likely the Varisian whelp. Dealing with demons. That's a capital offense."

I will ask around and see if I can figure anything out about this Shepard or what this might mean. The dagger is cold-iron, so not inexpensive. The threat seems genuine.

Those of your who have Knowledge (Local) can also feel free to roll about the Shepard if you so choose.

Direction: 1d4 ⇒ 4

As Tellis first goes to the house to the west of your new home, the first person he comes across is a Halfling gardener, tending to the vines on the exterior of the walls of this similarly constructed mansion.

Muttered in Halfling:
"Oh, lovely.'Course they come to talk to me."

"Afternoon to ya there, Sir!" the gardenrer says in a congenial tone, giving Tellis a distracted wave as he continues with his work. "Lovely when the imps decide to give your house a little coating, innit? I'd clean that up right quick if I were you, otherwise you'll never get the stink out. 'Course, can't help you with that myself, but if you're needin' some help, I might know a bloke or three who'd be obliged."

Smiling in a friendly manner, Tellis responds.

"Certainly, any recommendation would be appreciated! The vandalism was accompanied by a note, from a person calling themselves the Shepard... Would you have any knowledge of whom that might be?"

"What?" The halfling said, giving Tellis a strained smile. "I wouldn't know anything about the Shepard, thank you very much! I try to stay in polite society, thank you very much! No business in getting caught up with that one, I tell you that!"

"I apologize if I offended, I have just arrived in the city and literally know nothing about this Shepard person. Please forgive me... It just appears this Shepard person has taken notice of us, and I need to know whether I might be in danger or should be worried."
