Despite his impressive physique and imposing demeanor, Marcus might have lived and died in anonymity had not events thrust him into the limelight. A simple farmer from the village of Greenwood, he was a widower with three strong sons, a good reputation and a fierce reputation. When his farm was raided and then burned by a group of bandits led by the notorious Laughing Jack, he and his sons followed the tracks back to the bandit's camp, and slew three of their men before being forced to retreat.
Knowing that Laughing Jack would not be satisfied without his own revenge, he returned to Greenwood and mobilized the small town's defenses. When the bandits struck the next night, the villagers were ready, and under Marcus' leadership not only fought them off, but then followed the bandits back to their camp and their killed them all.
That might have been the end of Marcus' adventure, had it not been for the noble captive that was being held at the camp by Jack's men. The young noblewoman was so grateful for her rescue that she insisted Marcus accompany her back to her city, where her father celebrated Marcus as an example of all that was best of a Chelaxian citizen.
Stoic and composed, Marcus tolerated the parties and balls, in large part because each of his three sons were given a rewarding career in a new line of work. Marcus himself however refused all offers of gratitude, and after accepting a fine new shirt of mail, he finally stepped away from the limelight to consider the next phase in his life.
