Welcome to GM Euan’s Recruitment Thread!

This is a recruitment for a few seats at the table. I already have two fine players lined up for the campaign, but I have a policy of new blood and so am recruiting for three more spots (total of five).

This recruitment is for the Second Darkness AP. I expect every player to purchase, download, and read the Second Darkness Pathfinder Companion. Obviously I do not expect that of folks who are just trying to get in, so leave room in your build for one campaign trait, and don’t worry too much about your characters most recent past - we’ll sort that out later.

I want a brisk game, so carefully consider your commitment. I plan to post at least twice a day, likely much more often as needed. I want my players to post twice a day as well, pending interactions and the like of course. If you haven’t posted for 24 hours, I will DMPC you, have you delay, or otherwise fall behind. Likewise, folks that post more often will be more included in the storyline that unfolds. That said, let’s be reasonable. I am not looking for a super-zippy campaign. When I ran Curse of the Crimson Throne on these boards, it took 745 days (two years, 15 days) and I had 2,706 posts (3.6 a day average). I’m planning for something similar this time.

You will start at first level. You are beginning in Riddleport - you may be a native, or visitor with a reason to stay some little while. You have recently come into some money - either luckily (gambling, distant relative left you some cash, etc.) or through hard work (recently sold a share of a business you helped build up, recently accomplished some great crafting feat, etc.) and have spent much of it. As such, your starting gold will be 250gp.

Please create your character following the standard Pathfinder rules, point buy system, 20pt buy. Hit Points shall be determined in PFS style - maximum at first level, average +1 for all subsequent levels (so Fighters start with 10, and gain 6 at each level for example). We’re not using gestalt or mythic rules.

I do not want to limit your alignment too much, but no evil folks rattling around please, and be careful with extremes the other way as well. Paladins and other ‘oath bound’ characters may have great difficulty at times with this AP. There are times when your morals should be a little flexible. If you’re yearning to try it anyway, let’s chat.

You’ll start with two traits, one of which will be chosen from the Pathfinder Companion linked above. You may choose a drawback, with my approval, to gain another trait. I take drawbacks seriously though, so make them a solid part of your background, not just something you do for more power.

You may use Core sources from Paizo's PRD. I want to limit it to Core, Advanced Class Guide, and Unchained - though I will consider others on a case-by-case basis.

Some things in the Archives of Nethys will also be accepted on a case-by-case basis. No third party materials. Also, I know there are other sites with Pathfinder materials, but please try to link to one of these two whenever possible in your references. If not, I’ll just be searching there anyway, so save me some time please.

No gunslingers or other ‘tech’ themes. Sorry, I like my fantasy fantastic and firearms throw me off a bit. Also, please limit your race to the core book. Some exceptions (like tiefling) may be permitted, but I want you to 'fit in' with the locale more or less.

PLEASE pay more attention to your background and description than your 'crunch'. I am far more interested in who you are than what you are. Builds that are obviously one-dimensional will receive no further examination. Build a character that is interesting and capable of solving problems. Please do not build a min-max barbarian beat-stick (which isn’t to say no barbarians, just make it colorful!). You won't have much fun in this AP. That isn't to say you won't be fighting, just avoid the one-dimensional character.

When creating your alias for the campaign, please check out these examples, Ascaria or Femi. Feel free to customize to your liking (or simply export a HeroLab sheet in place of much of the broken down data). I don’t think I care what appears in the header-bar, but whatever you put there, please make sure it’s current.

I’m sure you will have questions I have not answered. For more information, visit my Profile page or the Campaign Tab. There will be more information there on what I’m looking for in terms of tone, some discussion of die rolling, etiquette, crafting, and more.

If you wish to role play a bit in the recruitment thread to stretch your legs, feel free. Any role play done here could carry over to gameplay if your characters know each other.

Recruitment will remain open until I have selected the players. I don’t know how long that will take, but I expect it’ll be a few days at least, maybe a week. I will post regular updates and answer questions as we go. The campaign will begin fairly quickly after that, though there will be plenty of time to tweak characters and make final preparations of course.

Let's have some fun together!!

I've heard that Second Darkness can be very clunky to run, but you are obviously an experienced and accomplished GM on these boards so I won't let that stop me from applying. Reading the Companion now.

Dude, my morals are always flexible.

I'm excited about this. I played in Evilan's Curse run and believe GM Evilan to be one of the best GMs on these boards. He's consistent and thorough as all piddlespot.

This is going to be good.

Man I wish I could properly commit to this. Life is just too weird right now. good luck and have fun all. Happy talk like a pirate day all

I have a tiefling cleric of Calistria I've been dying to try out. Is it okay if I submit her please? I'll have to check her stats and wealth to make sure that comply with the creation rules.

Thanks. I have not yet read the entire AP, but what I have read is clear enough. A lot of it is open ended, so I can see how some GMs might have trouble - particularly coming up with details on the fly in a tabletop setting. We should be OK though. I hope. :)

Thanks for the kind words. Now I just have to live up to them.

Thanks for not overcommitting. I will be a stickler for good and frequent play. Slow difficult characters will be replaced with fresh recruits. Aaarrghh!

We already have one tiefling in the party and I don’t want a whole party of them, but I will certainly consider it. Submit away! I look forward to checking her out.

When you say you want to keep it to Core, Advanced Class Guide and Unchained does that mean no Base classes or Magus? And do these restrictions apply for all content such as feats and spells?

The Pale King wrote:

Yes, and magic item purchases, etc. I want to keep an 'old school' feel to things, for the most part. It is an old campaign after all.

That said, I will allow things to slip through the net and I may gift special items, spells, etc. as the campaign unfolds (or allow the party to do research for something special, etc).

Did you have something specific in mind? Not sure I want a magus... but I could be convinced by a strong backstory.

Dotting for interest.

Cool and thank you. I'll try and have her up in a few moments.

She does have the pride drawback however.

SCKnightHero1 here.

Um...my laptop seems to be acting up so I'm going to go ahead and submit her and then when I can get my laptop to work right I'll doublecheck her stats and wealth. Sorry about that. I'll try and get her properly submitted during my break tonight if that's alright.

I don't have anything specific in mind yet, (though my first thought is an Elven arcane archer, it's just too bad it takes so long to get running) it just seemed a little unusual to allow a class like Investigator from the ACG but not Alchemist from the APG. But I have no complaints. Do the other two players know what classes they will be playing?

I say this not just to you, but to all applicants: think character, not build or class. We want people who have awesome backstory, personality, and RP. If your build is the first thing that comes to mind, you might want to refocus.

Ryssa, please weave your spell, ‘Tap Inner Beauty’ into your background. How did you come across so rare a spell? Also, the feat Prodigy that you’ve selected. It’s also not core - give me a reason. :)

Also, I’d like more background. You’ve covered the important bits (minus the two things I just listed), but I would like more. Maybe talk a bit about one of your ‘johns’ or more about the gambling. Was there a game you were particularly good at? Bad at? And break it up a bit - lots of paragraphs are good. Oh, and the two sets of horns feels very weird to me - is that a normal tiefling thing? Talk about that a bit as well, and what you plan to do with it. Thanks!

As Painlord says, I want backstory and lots of it. The details of your character should be personality/history/description, not just numbers. Have some fun and really delve. It's harder, and it's what you'll be judged by.

I am never one to skimp on the background. In fact I don't even really bother submitting a character if I don't get really into their backstory. So no worries there.

Grand Lodge

I'm new to the whole pbp thing and would love to get into it as I was always kinda sad at the shyness of face to face play, it's really hard to be the only one role playing and kills the vibe quickly.

Just one question, do I submit the character here in recruitment or somewhere else?

Please submit your character, as Ryssa did here (link) - as an alias. You can either do it in the format I suggested above, or as an output of whatever character generator you use (if any). The important bits are background/description/etc. not the numbers (though I'll check those too of course).

New to PbP is not a problem for me. Because I can't see your other games though, I will need more from you in terms of background and the like. I need to gauge what kind of player you'll be with less to go on. But we'll manage. :)

In this campaign you will not be the only one role playing. It's my goal that we all are as much as possible.

Gm,

Please consider Dimitrio Carini for inclusion in your game.

His fluff is below (as well as a link to a picture).

His stats, although not in your preferred format, are in the alias. I can put those stats in your format, but you shouldn't have a problem figuring out what his crunch is like. Although not 'optimized', his stats support his roleplaying potential, but Dimitrio is no slouch either.

Please let me know if you have any questions or require further information at this time.

Thanks for hosting a game!

Appearance, Personality, and Background:

APPEARANCE

Dimitrio is sexy (and he knows it). The rogue has thick, black hair, which spills down to his shoulders, a goatee, and a mustache. He wears golden loop earrings and a large gold necklace with his ‘lucky’ medallion. His shirt is open to show off his hairy chest and he wears loose pantaloons with leather boots; the boots have metal heels which ’click-clack’ loudly when he dances or Dimitrio just wants to impress someone. A couple of colorful sashes and an embroidered vest with lots of gold adornments complete his casual outfit.

Although he hates to admit it, the rogue will don dark leather armor with blackened studs when he is expecting trouble; his metal-heeled boots are silenced with a rubber piece.

PERSONALITY

Dimitrio is a charmer and vain about his looks and dancing. He is very greedy and likes to hoard jewelry and gems. He is a skilled performer and likes to take the non-violent way out of situations when possible. Gambling goes with the territory and Dimitrio is an addict, sometimes betting his jewelry and clothes off his back (literally).

He is very superstitious and sees ’bad omens’ everywhere. As such, he can be very moody when he mutters, “Today is not a good day. The devil yearns for my soul” or careless and happy-go-lucky when he states, “Relax, I can do no wrong. Do you not see Desna’s butterflies favor me?”

Being a vain performer, another pet peeve of his are appearances and Dimitrio will always seem to be ‘straightening out his moustache’, ‘messing with his hair/clothes’, and even go as far as use minor magic (prestidigitation) to clean himself and clothes.

He fears old age and losing his youth/vigor and on a more mundane level, he has an unhealthy fear of rats (“Those vermin are very dirty and full of diseases”).

He’s a young man with young man’s goals which right now are reduced to amassing wealth and showing off with the odd performance here and there.

BRIEF BACKGROUND

Dimitrio was one of the main attractions of the traveling Varisian Troupe of entertainers. His dancing mesmerized audiences and attracted lots of attention from the opposite sex (OK, he also attracted attention from the same sex but Dimitrio doesn’t like to talk about that). An archetypical band of scoundrels, the troupe would hold the attention of an audience while others fleeced them. So it was a win-win situation for the Varisians as they gained money from their performance and also augmented it with their petty thievery. Dimitrio also enhanced his dancing with a spectacular show of magic and lights.

Everything was going well for Dimitrio until the daughter of their leader, Petre Carini, came of age and started flirting with the young dancer. Warned by his brothers to ’leave that one alone’, Dimitrio could not help himself. When news of his fleeting romance reached Petre, the dancer was expelled and told not to come back on pain of death. Saddened by the whole ordeal, Dimitrio pushed his luck by ’taking’ a parting gift before he left; he stole Petre’s medallion.

Dimitrio quickly forgot about the young girl but the troupe has not forgotten about him. On the run and constantly looking over his shoulder, the young dancer tried to make money with the odd performance, supplementing his income with easy targets. He had briefly settled in Magnimar but news that the Carini Troupe was coming to town had the rogue looking for an excuse to leave—quickly.

SCENE (before coming to Riddleport)

His boots stomped; his hands clapped, and he danced and mesmerized them, all to the rhythm of the percussion drums. Those same drums that slowed down and blended with the audience’s heartbeat. The same drums that increased their rhythm and pace, taking the people along for a ride. And here was Dimitrio, in the middle of it all, directing the whole thing. Boots stomping, hands clapping Dimitrio. Dimitrio, whose performance was enhanced by a well-choreographed show of dancing lights and amplified sounds. It all ended like it did every Friday night, with a roaring applause and cheers. Enough adulation and praise to woo the young performer. But Dimitrio just wasn’t enjoying it. Not tonight.

The young man’s day had started all wrong. He had cut himself while shaving in the morning and Ms. Noria had seemed upset when he left for the small theater that afternoon. Seeing that black bird swallow up the butterfly only confirmed what the rogue already knew. Not a good day. A day to take it easy and lay low, until the butterfly flies again.

Now, somewhat blinded by the light, he took his dancing partners’ hands and bowed to the audience. Only his honed sense of perception showed him what he needed to see. There, a few rows back, was his old boss. His disguise good enough to fool most men but not Dimitrio.

Backstage, he entered the girls’ dressing room, sneaked in a few appreciative looks, and bowed with exaggerated flourish. With a heavy accent, he twirled his mustache, “Ladies, you make my heart skip a beat. I’m sure it was a pleasure to dance with Dimitrio. Likewise, Dimitrio will always remember you.” A couple of giggles later and the man was out the window; the rest of his gear and clothes abandoned in his own dressing room.

A few minutes later of carefully walking in the shadows and he was back in his Inn. Taking the back alley, the man stepped on garbage. Casting a quick cantrip to clean his boots, Dimitrio entered the inn and dashed to his room.

Only five minutes later, the rogue came downstairs; he was dressed for travel. With a heavy heart, he neared Ms. Noria and gently kissed the matronly woman on the cheek and slipped a couple of gold pieces into her fat hand. At the woman’s unvoiced question, Dimitrio answered
“Yes, but only for a little while. There’s a ship leaving tonight for Riddleport. I think they have need of good dancers there.”

At the woman’s sad face, he added, “Please tell me that you will miss Dimitrio, yes?”

The rogue kissed Ms. Noria one more time as he exited the tavern. His steps led north to the docks. After sweet-talking himself on board, the rogue settled in for the long trip. The slow, rhythmic movement of the ship soon lulled the man to sleep but not before he saw a blue butterfly flutter by.

Dimitrio yawned, “Yes, sweet lady I agree. It was time to move on. Grant sweet dreams and safe travels to Dimitrio, yes?” Another deep breath and the young man was fast asleep. He dreamed of Riddleport and its famous gambling hall and he dreamed of butterflies.

Dimitrio - I think you have one trait too many. Remember you’ll need to reserve one for a campaign trait. I like your background, very nicely done - good set piece. Where are you from originally? Open road? Korvosa? Some smaller town?

Cool and thank you for looking her over. I'll try and add what you suggested. The reason for the two horns was I was trying to make her unique. Most tieflings have one set of horns but when I create a character I try to make them as unique as possible. I also looked at different lists of physical characteristics that tieflings have for more options. To me a character that looks like every other member of his or her race doesn't appeal to me. I try to go all out on their description.

And I can change her feat if you like. Forgot it wasn't a core feat. Sorry about that.

I am certain I want to play an Elf, I feel they will have many opportunites for interesting roleplay in this campaign. I've never played a 'wild elf' so an elf of the Mwangi Expanse has a lot of draw to me right now. So much so that I have drawn a quick sketch of the character before I have done much else. It often helps me think about who they are if I have a clear physical picture of them.

Here it is if you'd like to see it.

I took the feat called 'additional traits' which gives me two more traits. The campaign trait is 'looking for work' so by my count, that should be a total of 4 traits, which is what I have.

I will play Dimitrio as superstitious and with a gambling problem, which I could probably claim to be drawbacks (and get traits) but I don't think that's necessary. I'm Ok with 'burning a feat' to obtain two traits to support roleplaying.

Dimitrio was originally from open roads in 'Varisia' (picked up by the troupe as a young boy) and was traveling around with the Varisian Troupe of entertainers. Once he broke away a couple of years ago, he settled in Magnimar. The 'troupe' has tracked him down so he took a ship to Riddleport to escape once again. He's a recent arrival in Riddleport.

BTW, you sound like a DM that doesn't need 'permission', but feel free to use 'the traveling Varisian Troupe of entertainers' as NPCs to harass (er... I mean make interesting roleplaying opportunities for) Dimitrio. :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Game on!

Very good Dimitrio, thanks. And yes, I'm not one to ask permission, but I also won't harass a player (well badly anyway) for good role play choices. Though it might not always feel like it. :)

To help a little with recruitment, please feel free to role play a little in thread. I suggest you visit the Drunken Lurch (image) pub in Riddleport. The ale isn’t so good, but the wine is above standard, and freely flowing - if you’ve got the coin for it. The proprietor is a heavyset, bearded man who’s house cat is well known - and somewhat feared. He has a white blaze on the chest of his otherwise black body, and he’s known for biting the hand that feeds him. Er, the cat, not the proprietor.

It’s midday, a little early for heavy drink, but the pub does serve a decent boiled fish sandwich with potatoes and turnips.

The backstory writing begins!:

Background:

When I was young my tribe was taken over by the Ekujae. It was not an overtly violent affair. Only one elf died. Our greatest warrior, our chieftain, my father. It was that duel that decided things, if he had won we would have stayed independent, but it was not to be. I will not deny that under the Ekujae we have prospered, life is no longer the struggle it once was. We always have enough food to go around and the number of accidental deaths have fallen greatly. But it has not felt like home since that day. Perhaps it is strange that I have kept this bitterness inside of me, no one else of our tribe has and it not common for my people to hold grudges for so long. It has not gone unnoticed. I have been 'advised' by the chieftains to leave the tribes for a time, to seek the Brightness and leave my hostility behind.

Not many of my people, -aptly called the wild elves by some- seek the Brightness in the way the other elves of Golarion do, but I have seen those who have found it and I can feel its pull. I believe the chieftains whom I silently disdained have given me the one thing that could melt this bitterness away. Freedom. The world outside of Mwangi Expanse is a strange one, the kingdoms of men are not what I expected, but I am adapting quickly. I decided to travel far. Many caravans and many ships took me from the place I should have called home. Ever onwards I ran to somewhere I felt so strongly drawn. It is here in Riddleport that my need to keep moving has quieted, the shadow in the sky looms overhead and I feel I am where I need to be. Enlightenment awaits in this darkness.

Elves already feel out of place in human settlements, but a wild elf would be even more so. Especially one so cutthroat as Riddleport. I think this character would be a lot of fun.

Nice start and cool sketch! could you talk about your early days a bit more? I’m intrigued. Were there more accidental deaths than you’d expect (before the takeover of course)? What of the duel? Who did your father fight? Give me more… :D

Well everything checks out alright. Wealth and ability scores comply with the character creation rules. And I also updated her background too.

Thanks! I've added a bit more and have a bit of a plan for his first days in Riddleport. His younger years will be expanded upon once I figure out what class to make him. The nature classes really don't lend themselves to being elves. Still considering them anyway plus Shaman and Brawler.

Background:
I was born into a small elven tribe of the Mwangi Expanse. It was difficult from decade to decade to gather enough food for everyone, and we only managed because of the large amount of unfortunate deaths that left us with less mouths to feed. When I was young my tribe was taken over by the Ekujae. It was not an overtly violent affair. Only one elf died. Our greatest warrior, our chieftain, my father. It was that duel that decided things, if he had won we would have stayed independent, but it was not to be. My father was known to be one of the greatest fighters on the expanse so it was no simple warrior they sent to face him. The chieftain of the Ekujae himself fought my father for the future of our tribe. That same chieftain slew my father in front of my eyes after an extended and 'glorious' combat that will likely be remembered by our people for untold centuries to come. I only remember it as the day I lost my path. I will not deny that under the Ekujae we have prospered, life is no longer the struggle it once was. We always have enough food to go around and the number of 'accidental' deaths have fallen greatly, being under the protection of the Ekujae has many perks. But it has not felt like home since that day. Perhaps it is strange that I have kept this bitterness inside of me, no one else of our tribe has and it not common for my people to hold grudges for so long. It did not go unnoticed, but I was simply pitied for it, perhaps even looked down upon as weak and strange. Recently I was 'advised' by the chieftains to leave the tribes for a time, to seek the Brightness and leave my hostility behind.

Not many of my people, -aptly called the wild elves by some- seek the Brightness in the way the other elves of Golarion do, but I have seen those who have found it and I can feel its pull. Dimitrio looked up at the sign, The Drunken Lurch doesn't sound much better than the last piss hole I was in but who knows..." He shook his head remembering his very recent encounter with one of the locals. The sailor had called him a 'Bridge Monkey'. And just because he had stepped off the ship from Magnimar. He chuckled at his magic trick and muttered to himself, "It was pretty funny when he spit out his warm, salty ale onto his friend..."

He checked his clothes and breathed deeply. Maybe this place will actually have a stage and appreciate decent entertainment.

He moved his right hand quickly and removed dust and soot from his boots. His other hand re twirled his mustache and combed back his greasy mane. Dimitrio nodded in satisfaction and stepped inside.

His contentment was short-lived as a black cat crossed his path. Dimitrio muttered something under his breath to ward off the bad luck and signaled Desna's butterfly across his heart. Without further incident, he took a seat at the bar where a plump man asked for his drink.

Dimitrio smiled, "Whatever is very good here and don't mind the price." Taking a sip of the fine wine, he extended his hand, "Dimitrio, Dimitrio is my name. New here and looking for work. Know of anywhere where fine entertainment is provided?"

tag barman?

I hope you don't mind internal thoughts but let me know otherwise.

I hope it's no big deal... Dimitrio was made as a 2nd level rogue and I had taken advantage of taking his rogue talent in minor magic. Given that we're starting at 1st level, his crunch doesn't really support his backstory of using magic to enhance his shows (even with the magical talent trait). With your permission, I would like to turn Dimitrio into a bard (arcane duelist). I realize that he will lose some important rogue abilities and his combat influence will be nerfed but he will gain in versatility (and his story would make more sense). I also plan to have him look for the easy way out of problems rather than fighting. Would that be OK?

Totally fine, and desirable.

I'm more interested in backstory and role play, the everything is adjustable until the campaign begins no problem. Fiddle away!

That said, isn't the Arcane Duelist in the Advanced Players Guide? heheheh. I have a soft spot for that class having played it once in a past life and used it as a level dip for my first PFS character. I don't think it'll be unbalanced so I'm inclined to allow it. You sure your rogue can't manage what he wants with a once a day prestidigitation though? It does last an hour.

The barkeep pulls a bottle from an upper shelf and smiles, but does not extend his hand. "I'm Bartlebe, and if this wine doesn't suite you I bet none will!"

He gestures to an ancient looking man in the corner with an even older looking fiddle of some sort. He's squeaking away, fairly quietly and nearly unheard in the din of the lunch crowd. He's so frail, he looks like he might fall over if the room wasn't so full in fact.

"That's my talent there." he gives you a level look, "Not what I'd have picked mind you, but it's what I've got!" he moves off to yell something into the kitchen. Shortly a young woman also of a somewhat thick but luscious build, comes trundling out with a few plates of the fish.

He moves to the other end of the bar and serves some other patrons.

"'Suit you', you mean. 'If this wine doesn't suit you...' Unless your wine is musically inclined, or overly sweet, you mean the former."

A young man leans across Dimitrio, reaching for the bar towel. As he does, he sniffs the man lightly, leans back, and starts licking the soft flesh between his thumb and first finger.

"Apologies, but this rag looks least sullied. Can't wrap my hand with just anything." He waves his hand in front of Dimitrio, demonstrating rather deep teeth marks.

"They said the cat was more than a little grumpy, but I tend to verify things for myself. It's true what they say. He let me pet it once, then sunk his rather sharp teeth as I pulled away."

With his other, far less bloodied hand, the young man offers a handshake. "My name is Lief, and you smell new. Riddleport hasn't marked you with its scent yet. That interests me. From where do you hail, Dimitrio?"

Well, if you're Ok with it then I'm fine as well. I really could go either way. How about we wait to see who/what the final PCs are and (if Dimitrio is selected) then see what makes most sense for 'party balance'?

Dimitrio almost choked on his fine wine when he saw the old man and his fiddle. That was entertainment in Riddleport?

Without wanting to sound too cocky - something that was often hard for Dimitrio - he nodded to the barman and sauntered over to the fiddler. He pulled over a short stool and flipped over an empty box. His hands were soon accompanying the tune with some - rather muted - percussion. He clapped and blew on his palms and now the sound changed pitch and volume. The box now sounded like a proper drum.

Soon Dimitrio was carrying the tune and the tired, old man was happy to follow along. Dimitrio added some boot-stomping and more hand-clapping to the mix. He smiled as some of the patrons took note.

He relaxed. Doing what he loved always made him feel at ease.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Just wanted to poke my nose in and mention how awesome Euan is.

If there weren't other life things going on I'd totally apply.

Oooooh, this sounds good.

I'm heading out right now, but I have an idea of what I want to do and will start writing when I get back.

Lief looks down at his hand, turning it over, and examining it for missed blood. Reasonably assured he hadn't offended the man, he turns to watch him go.

When the music ensues, Lief marks the man's disposition, demeanor, and decorum as he takes the lead. Looking back over the crowd of patrons in the bar, Lief decides to concentrate on Dimitrio. He gathers up two cups of wine from Bartlebe, overpaying the man for the bloody rag he hands back. When the two musicians pause for respite, Lief is there with his quench. He hands one cup to the old man, then turns to the younger one, intent on gaining his attention.

"Dimitrio, was it? Sorry, it's awfully loud in here. You must have missed my earlier introduction. My name's Lief. Where did you learn to play, Dimitrio?" Lief's tone of voice marks a light separation between his words, punctuating them for clarity.

I wish to present here Larandel. He is an elf based on the most deep traditions of his race, but with a reckless and curious personality that has given him experiences that opened him to the human world.

I have thought of him as having a deep wound from a past family event, and ever since he has closed himself on his duty and the study of magic. His recent years are a bit blank on purpose, so we can adapt him to whatever fits better for the AP. His setting to be in Riddleport is mostly about duty, but there is also a true interest on Cypher magic. If this does not fit properly with the AP, I have not seen anything against in the Guide, I can easily tweak his last years so he has been fleeing from the Mierani forest as a result of the horrible events of his past. That can give him a darker tone if needed.

Mechanically I think I can obtain this traditional mixture of elven archery and magic with an Eldritch Knight, going from ranger to wizard to classify, both the most elven classes from the Core in my opinion. If this idea is not of your like (I am neither very fond of prestige classes and this is my first attempt on such a thing), I think I can try to adjust a bard class to obtain a similar "archer elven with magic" effect. I have chosen a drawback I think it complements well with the character. I suggest to link it to his bonded object which should be an amulet which is a proof of love from his wife. I have used the 'fleet-footed' racial trait from ARG, this might be not allowed and I have no problem into removing it. Also the trait (racial) Warrior of Old from Ultimate Campaign, but I can replace it with Reckless.

I would love to receive ideas for both his background and build. So feel invited to you all, an specially those of you two already selected, to criticize what might better work to mingle with your characters.

Finally, I consider myself a solid poster. I often help push the action in all the campaigns I participate, and I myself know how tough it is the activity of the GM. If it is of any value, in the last year I have been posting around 13 posts/day considering all my players and GM. I enjoy both roleplaying and combat, but specially to see develop the history. As I increase my activity in PbP APs, I am decreasing my activity in PFS, as I feel experienced and solid enough in the PbP format as to not drop games in the incoming years.

PD: I am not English natives, so sorry if you find weird constructions in my text. I can also understand if that goes against my candidature but wanted to make it known.

Dimitrio took the cup of wine and nodded once more. Damn good wine for such a grimy place.

He extended his hand to the young man who had provided the drink, "Lief? Good to meet you."

He looked at his hands and shrugged, "Music comes easy to me. I hear a tune in my head and my hands just follow along."

Not wanting to loose an opportunity to impress someone new, he got up with a flourish and stomped his heels, "However, my real talent is in dancing..."

"What do you do fun, Lief?"

Lief frowns, if only for a fraction of a second, then answers the musician, and potential dancer. So, self-taught, or possibly savant... "Dancing, was it? And yet you led with your music first. Probably a good thing. Get to know the room first, before stepping on toes."

"Fun?" Lief leans in closer, his eyes looking Dimitrio over as a bird might eye a worm. "I like to people-watch. In a city like this, I think I chose my port well, don't you think?" He leans back, a half-smile raising the right corner of his mouth.

I'll throw Devon in for consideration. He was accepted into a Second Darkness game that faltered because several other players dropped. So he's already got the SD trait and should be good to go.

Backstory:

"Here you go, Smeed," Devon said as he threw down a small sack of coins. There was a hint of satisfaction in his voice, but he kept his cool. Getting out from under the debt of Lymas Smeed had been a long time in coming, and he had no desire to drag out this exchange.
The loanshark undid the strings and dumped the contents on the table. He did not look happy, despite the large number of coins that formed the pile. "Coppers? Really?" he sneered.

Devon straightened his shoulders and cleared his voice. "There's plenty of silver in there. And quite a few gold as well. Go ahead and count it; it's all there."

"My time is worth so much more than counting these bleeding coppers. You've just cost yourself another ten gold by insulting me like this."

"You have got to be kidding me! It's not like most of these flea-infested sailors gamble with anything better than coppers," the rakish human gestured at the glinting pile.

Smeed gave him a look of contempt. "Not my problem. You needed funding for the big score? You live under my terms. And my terms mean no flipping coppers!"

Devon looked at him dubiously. Smeed seemed to have forgotten to mention that when the original deal was done. He winced inwardly, making sure it didn't register on his face. The deal was supposed to set him up for a long time. Devon had needed the coin to grease a few palms so that the big concave lens made at the Sandpoint Glassworks got to the Cyphermages. It was a beautiful piece that he had hidden in the bottom of a wine barrel. From the Publican House to the Cypher Lodge, a nice bit of smuggling that would have paid off Smeed's loan three times over. If only he hadn't made that tiny wager with Arnando Rolf...

Devon felt his fingers ache for the feel of the hilt of his rapier, but he resisted. It was absolutely not worth it. Instead, he reached into his boot cuff and pulls out a small number of coins. He slaps them down on the table. "Five gold. Best I can do; best you'll get from me. We're done here."

Devon ignored Smeed's curses and threats as he stood and pushed away from the table. He hustled out of the seedy tavern and avoided the eyes of what had to be his hired goons. Stepping out into the light of the street, he pushed his way through the crowd, hoping to put some distance between Smeed's men and himself. Cutting down alleys and working his way through Riddleport, he took several twists and turns before allowing him to think he got away. He figured -- well, hoped, really -- that Smeed only wanted to rough him up and not give him the snickersnak, but he wanted to avoid that entirely. Especially since he had held out on him, and kept a few gold in reserve.

He reached a small plaza where a shiny new gambling hall stood. Well, new-ish. Probably just renovated, but it looked promising. Catching a glimpse of a couple of Smeed's men out of the corner of his eye, the decision was made. He put on a broad smile, strode up to the front of the hall and produced a gold coin.

"Evening, gentlemen. Where do I sign up?"

Background:

Lance Stormshield was born to the minor noble family of stormshield.
though if you were to ask him about it, he would have no idea what you were talking about and loudly proclaim that his name is Turt Snacko. given to him by his mother, Vastra, the high brood mother of a clan of lizard folk in the greenbelt.
Lance Stormshield died the day he was born, in the middle of transit from Varisia to Andoran with his parents. His parents were attack by the Stag-lords bandits who killed them and sacked there carriage
they ran off with young Lance so they could see if he was worth any thing and they were blind sided by a patrol of lizard folk who then took the child so then can feed him to the villages clutches of children.
but with the timely intervention of the chief at the behest of the chiefs favorite wife, Vastra, he was spared.
the brood mother then took in the child and renamed him Turt Snacko.
for sixteen years Turt Stayed in the green belt learning how the lizard folk do, how to hunt, how to fight, and how to kill.
life was simple and that's what Turt enjoyed the most.
but believe it or not, if your name was not Vastra, then you were ether ambivalent towards Turt or hated the presence of the "soft skin".
but that all ended when Turt was sent on his first patrol.
the group found a family wandering the green belt and he was ordered to kill the father and mother, then kidnap the child.
Turt beat the father into submission and was about to kill him, when the wife threw herself over her husband and begged Turt not to do it.
the sight awakened his suppressed humanity and stopped him from dealing the fatal blow.
the rest of the patrol then attacked Turt, who knew he now had to run and never look back.
so he did.
And Turt never did looked back, He proceeded to wander the world aimlessly. looking for a purpose. eventually Turt wandered into Riddleport, he had no idea what he was getting into and was quickly swindled out of all his measly possessions.\
when he was at his lowest, he came across a crime savvy half-elf woman named fox, who took him in and gave him a job at her library as the receptionist, where he's been ever since.
that was three years ago, now 19 and not as blind too the world as he was before, the wanderlust is beginning grow once again
and while Riddleport will always be his home, he feels that this is what he is meant to do.
"Heh..." Turt gives a easygoing smile to the sky "...alright world, GIVE ME YOUR BEST SHOT!" Turt shouts for all of Riddleport to hear,
making people run away from the crazy man who is screaming to the sky.

Ryssa entered the bar, her hood over her head in order to keep out the rain and stay dry.

Bloody hell! That wretched Blot is on everyone's minds these days. I tell you if something isn't done soon we might have riots on our hands, she says as she takes off her revealing her horned head, her draconic horns covered in jewelry, especially the chained variety. She also had purple colored skin and small scales on her cheeks. She pushed aside a lock of hair behind her left ram horn. Around her neck was a silver holy of Calistria showing all present that she was a cleric of the Savored Sting. Before walking toward the bad she wiped her sandaled boots on the mat and sat down on a stool.

So what whiskey do you have in stock barkeep?

She asked with a fang filled smile as she made a hissing sound with her forked snake like tongue.

Just to give you a taste of how I roleplay.

Grand Lodge

Turt steps into the bar, his armored feet creating semi-loud thumps as he walks through to a stool next to a Tiefling he has seen around this bar at times
"Man this place never changes..." Turt Frowns and repositions his shield on his back, he takes a large breath through his nose before breaking out in a huge grin "...I guess that's why I love it so much!" he mumbles as he takes a seat

Turt glances around the Drunken Lurch, soaking it in for what might be the last time for a while, and is surprised to see two people he has not seen here before "Huh?...I know everyone that comes here...the armored one seems familiar but I know I haven't seen the other one, well new blood is always welcome her I guess" Turt grins once again and takes a deep breath

"Hey bartlebe i'll have the regular!!"

Dotting this from work for interest, will supply a real submission when I return home.

A halfling in unseasonably warm clothing enters the bar. In fact, the bar patrons have probably never seen a halfling wearing shoes before her, much less fur-lined boots. Her cap, coat, and gloves are also lined with fur. She could easily be mistaken for a young man with her boyish walk, square frame, lack of make-up, and heavy clothing.

The halfling takes in the bar, completely unashamed of such touristy behavior.

”Aw, jeez. Nothing as big as this back in Braynard. So gosh darn loud, too!”

She speaks with a provincial accent that transforms her every turn-of-phrase into a warm, friendly greeting. (Think a stereotypical Minnesota accent, in case you haven't guessed already.)

Any hint of trepidation stiffled by an energetic optimism, the young woman walks up to the bar and climbs onto a stool.

”Oh, hey there, Mr. Barkeep. Just a nice cold glass of milk for me, if ya don't mind.”

She turns over towards the other patrons at the bar, speaking to them with all the casual gregariousness of a lifelong acquiantance. She deposits her hat onto the bar and peels off her gloves.

”Seems like I dressed a bit too warm! Gonna have to get a whole brand new wardrobe, dontcha know!”

True enough, beads of sweat have collected on her face. Nothing about her body is particularly attractive or unattractive. Her nose isn't quite straight, but it has a nice shape. One eyelid droops slightly, but her eyes are clear blue. She is a bit pudgy, but her proportions are pleasing. Her mouth is a little too big for her face, but she has an irrepressible—if perhaps not quite carefree—smile. The barest traces of lines in her face place her probably in her 30's.

She gives a casual salute.

“I am Madge Zolversson, from up North just off the highway to the Land of them Linnorm Kings, lovely little town called Braynard. Been looking to change things up and thought 'Ya know, Madge, maybe it's time ya go find your fortune in the big city. They got plenty a need for law enforcement down there, eh?' And, well, here ya go!”

She takes a napkin off the counter and dabs the sweat on her face.

”So, how all you guys doing? What's the wordies, birdies?”

91.87452% sure that she will be an investigator focusing on support and skills. Haven't decided for sure yet. Will definitely be taking the Fools for Friends campaign trait, though.

Perhilion's awkward intrusion heralded by a scrapping sound has he carefully drags a stool over by the two humans. He's slight even for a gnome, dressed in a fine lavender doublet and cheap clunky, very dirty boots. Like he ran out of money at the ankles. He has a carefully teased shock of streaky blue hair.

Yes! Watching is good. I like it to. The thing to remember is that most things that are watched can watch back. In fact the more you watch the more you are watched. In my experience. Maybe you just notice how much you're watched because you're watching all the time. There's a school of magic that suggests that nothing exists until it is observed, so maybe it's literally the case that watching is recursive. The more you watch the greater the total capacity for watching.

He pauses ever so slightly, his gaze flicking between the two men and then resting somewhere farther away.

I came over because I like what you did drumming man. I like it because music is the same as magic and you used magic for you music which is even more magic. I like that.

He looks up at the ceiling.

I also like the blot. Yes I know that's a weird thing to say, but I do. It's always there and it's not boring anybody. Every night I stay up very late and solve the problem of the blot and go to sleep knowing the answer. Then I wake up and go outside and look up and realize i was full of it. So I get back to work solving the problem. Usually after lunch. Diverting. Keeps my hair from turning white. Mostly.

He seems distant for a moment and then shakes his head as if to clear his mind.

I am a very rude gnome! I'm sorry, my name is Perhilion and I'm very pleased to meet you both. Let me buy you a drink. Or a fish sandwich. Maybe a small bauble or something if you're not hungry or thirsty?

Perhilion is intended to be a gnome arcanist. Disgraced drop out of the Acadamae in Korvosa, phobic about summoning spells, on the run from creditors.

Submitting Garridan Brewmaster Warpriest of Cayden Cailean "The Lucky Drunk," I have his background worked out in my mind just need to put it to paper but everything else is in his alias.
I have a couple of questions;
1. Is the fencing grace feat going to be available, I could go with slashing grace but since Cayden's weapon is a rapier I'd rather go with fencing grace to get dex to damage.
2.I went with a disadvantage (hedonistic)and an extra trait(Iron liver), there are links to them in the alias, let me know if they are appropriate.

Appearance:

Garridan dunked his head into the horse trough in front of the Drunken Lurch Tavern. As he removed his head from the cool water he gazed at his reflection as he wiped his face dry. He smiled at his likeness, it was a smile that would make a mother hide her daughters, a banker clutch his coin purse a little tighter, or cause a widow to blush. Garridan mused that while he was not yet 25 years old the reflection looking back at him seemed, not only older, but more competent or experienced then his years. He stood a little under 6 feet tall and was well muscled like a greyhound, broad in the shoulders and narrow at the waist, and he carried himself with an air of confidence and the swagger of a veteran.

Garridan continued looking at his reflection he noticed his eyes, they are same color of the sky right before a storm, but it is more than their color that draws his attention, his gaze appears knowing and penetrating. His eyes are set in a well-proportioned and lightly tanned face which is framed by slicked dark flowing hair, the color of a raven’s wing, with a mustache, a small goatee, and long sideburns that extend to his chin. Garridan proudly considered his mustache, it was thick and well-groomed and once a dwarf had complemented him on it.

He thought, enough admiring yourself, you are acting like a maiden going to her first ball. Garridan stands up and whispers to his reflection in a rich full baritone All in a day’s work.

Portraits: Garridan

Personality:

The first thing Garridan does when he enters the Drunken Lurch tavern (or any tavern for that matter) is take a deep breath, relishing in the distinct smells that taverns have. This particular tavern smelled of stale beer, fish, and unwashed bodies. Next he likes to look around and take in the clientele and judge the mood of the crowd. As a priest of Cayden Cailean he can size up a tavern pretty quick. While it is only midday there is a sizeable crowd starting to gather. Garridan enters and approaches the Bartlebe the Tavern owner who is standing behind bar. Bartlebe is engaged in conversation with a swarthy man of average build with a receding hairline, which Garridan did not recognize.

Garridan, blessings of the lucky drunk be on ya, the familiar Innkeeper bellows, I heard you got yeself really sozzled the other night.

Garridan approaches and takes a seat at the bar next to the stranger and answers with a smile, Don’t believe everything you hear.

I heard the pup mucked up big time, the swarthy figure at the bar chimes in.

Pay him no mind Garridan, the innkeeper interjects and motions toward the man sitting at the bar, this is Yohn a tanner over in the River District.

Good day, and may the Lucky Drunk watch over you. Garridan nods as he smiles in the tanner’s direction and extends his hand to shake.

The tanner turns his head and spits into a brass spittoon, ignoring the offered hand, as he continues to nurse his drink. I’ll not be shaking your hand, retorts the tanner. 'I’ve heard all about you Garridan Brewmaster. Incorrigible gambler, philanderer, and drunkard, it looks like your arrogance finally did you in the other night. He spits again.

You forgot slothful and I have a tendency to talk with my mouthful. Also, technically, I’ am more of a womanizer than a philanderer, he grins at the man.

And smartass, the the tanner retorts.

True, True, Garridan chuckles. Then continues, Now friend, I’ll be the first to admit that there is a fine line between arrogance and self-confidence and that sometimes I cross that line. The same line exists between hot and cold, or drunk and sober, or up and down. What I’m trying to say is that sometimes the line ain’t so clear to me. So occasionally I make what other might label a bad decision. But I say what’s wrong with enjoying a good laugh, a clever joke, a strong drink, a willing wench, a game of chance, or a relaxing smoke? Some would label these as bad vices or excesses, but to me they add savor to our lives and The Lucky Drunk seems to agree with me.

And full of crap, adds the man, I heard what happened to Nad. You got him so drunk, he started a fight and done got himself arrested.

Well, that was unfortunate business. Unlucky for him, but a lucky turn for me. And let’s be honest friend, Nad will handle the rigors of a few nights in jail much better than I would. I’m afraid I'd be a bit too popular with the inmates, so to speak. Moreover, the guards would probably lose their meager paychecks gambling with me and start beating their wives. So as you can see the way it worked out is better for everyone. Garridan concludes and begins to hum a slow melancholy tune.

The proprietor faces Yohn, the tanner and interrupts, Now most people would conclude that Garridan is a cad and they may very well be right. However, if they paid attention they would find that there is more to him lurking below the surface. The Garridan most of us know is a faithful servant of Cayden Cailean, The Accidental God. Furthermore, he is gregarious, perhaps a bit slow to trust, but good natured and sees everyone as a potential friend. Understandably, he might be the first person you would think of if you wanted to go out carousing. Nevertheless, he would be the first person to buy you a drink the next morning to help you get over the hangover. He has a story for every occasion and he believes everyone has a story waiting to be told. He is a fierce defender of his friends and cares little about what others think. Oh, and most importantly for you, he has a tendency to hum when he is angry.

Garridan turns away from the bar and surveys the common room. Quite a crowd maybe I can win some coin before heading over to the Gold Goblin, he concludes as he absentmindedly touches his coin purse.

Hmmm he mumbles to himself as he considers the other patrons and who might be most likely to lose some coin to him. He looks at the over dressed halfling, never gamble with a halfling they're too lucky. His gaze moves over to the female tiefling, Ah a cleric of Calistria, very giving but usually broke, he thinks as he admires her gifts. Next, he considers the table that the drummer that just stopped playing is sitting at, I can see some potential there, musicians are usually not wise with their coin, and it appears he has several groupies already, easy pickings perhaps.

Garridan moves over to the table with Dimitrio, Leif, and Perhilion, Good day, may your wine never spoil. He nods his head, Do you mind if I join you?

"Even more new blood" Turt chirps as he moves from his stool to a seat next to madge "trust me new blood, this city eats the unprepared, I would know."

Turt gives her a once over and frowns "um...I don't mean to sound rude but...uh...are you a girl?"

Ah a priest of Cayden Cailean! I guess you're here to bless the drinks aren't you, she jokingly asked with a wink as she wags her snake like tail making sure her tuff didn't get caught in any dust bunnies. She studies the other patrons with her amber snake like eyes.

After hearing the gnome's talk of the Blot she replies with a giggle, So you like the Blot huh? I guess you scholarly types have to study something.

Hissing a bit, she winks at the gnome before drinking her whiskey with a smile.

Perhaps, and who are you here to bless? Garridan replies with a knowing look and wide smile to the Cleric of Calistria. As he takes a seat he continues, I'm Garridan by the way and you might be?
