First, Catarina sets the windows to opaque setting. Then she starts a thorough search of the apartment, paying special attention to the kitchen cabinets, the coat closet, the bedroom and the closet.

December 26th Update

TBH, not entirely sure on process of hacking a bot, but I'm assuming with your score and the margin you beat by, that you have no problems really./ooc]

Aleksander easily overrides the servitor bot. Accessing its records, Aleksander doesn't find much in the way of 'recordings.' Most of the data is involved with programming, the only real changes in the data are personal adjustments the bot has made to better serve David.

[ooc]Use Investigation to draw conclusions from assorted details. For example, Investigation could be used to determine the likely sequence of events at a crime scene, determine a possible social connection between two people, or deduce how an enemy made their escape. Investigation is a great way to provide clues to players, especially when the subject matter is something their character might know well but the player does not.

Catarina finds an empty shoebox in the shoe closet.
Roll investigation to discern its significance.
She also finds a single red synthetic hair that had escaped the servitors bot's vacuuming.

Pilgrim's eyes alight on the shoe box at the same moment as Cat.

"Is there anything in particular I should keep an eye out for?

looking for hints, if none he will scrounge the fridge to see whats in there

"Anything outta place, mostly. I'm starting to think our pal David here just... isn't 'David' anymore? Like he pulled on a wig and a new outfit and she's out there under a different name and that's why he's 'disappeared'."

The ego hunter taps his chin, clearly enjoying himself.
"That's my theory so far at least... though I don't know why the spimes wouldn't have her leaving, so that's that first big hole."

Pivo scrounges the fridge and medicine cabinet, and any nightstands next to the bed. He is looking primarily for medications, strange foods, and strange hygiene products or toiletries.

"Interesting. Even if David used a disguise, you haven't seen anyone leaving this apartment when you checked the security footage, right? Then where is David?"

Aleks continues looking through the apartment after dealing with the bot and getting no new information. Immediately he thinks to check another possible exit to the apartment. "The trash shoot!" he exclaims running across the apartment.
scrounging 60: 1d100 ⇒ 87

"No good," Aleks sighs as he plops on the couch to think for a couple minutes. As he is thinking, his eyes come to rest on the holo projector. Hmm..I wonder who Davis has contacted or what he has watched in the last 48 hours..?
Checking the holo Infosec 80: 1d100 ⇒ 72

Hey Lexi, can you get the video spimes from the hallway and the room environment spimes over the last 48 hours as well? Let's see if we can't see if someone else has been in here while our friend has.

Right away Aleks.
Infosec 30: 1d100 ⇒ 6

I don't know if this is necessary but to put all information gathered so far together to try and figure out what has happened in the last 48 hrs.
Investigation 55: 1d100 ⇒ 7

"Eh, probably hacked the feeds to edit himself or herself out."

December 26th Update

The shoebox is for a set of shoes that's large size does not match any present. Also from the smell and the condition, it seems the shoes would be brand new, also something that doesn't match any shoes present.

Pivo looks through the area's he bleives would hide drugs are other such materials that may be incriminating. But it all looks completely normal. Headaches, stomach, nausea, etc. It looked like a perfectly normal medicine cabinient. Perfectly normal. Maybe too normal. Like a perfect excuse to show security or anyone looking for some kind of....contraband. Contraband someone would have taken great pains to hide.

Point of order: When you looked over the video spimes, you found the point David entered the KNox building, never him leaving, and security entering. Folks did leave between those times, just no new folks entered until the security team did.

Aleksander, there are no video spimes available in the hallways, two many complaints from the students. But the environmentals all look normal, no changes that would draw attention.

From everything you've learned, you're pretty certain no one came in and did something to David. Rather, he left though possibly not looking the same as he entered. With aenough details, you could probably figure out exactly when he left by finding his new "persona" in the video spimes.

Pilgrim reviews the security footage, looking for a redhead with brand new large shoes.

If necessary:
Perception 60, enhanced vision +20: 1d100 ⇒ 79

"Alright, working theory is that David is someone else and left on their own. Hm. Wonder if our friends suspect that they've got something to do with the other scientists..."

Aleks muses for a moment and then speaks, "There seems to be two most likely possibilities given that David snuck himself out. One, he has something to do with the scientists disappearances. And/or two, he knows that he's likely the next target.."

"Hmm, hiding something i think. No drugs around, everything seems too normal."

Pivo continues searching, looking specifically for hiding places and secret buttons/latches, and using his advanced optical abilities to scan for hidden hollow spaces.

December 26th Update

Pivo, adept at searching and examining scenes, eventually discovers that the legs of the living room table are actually hollow. A quick disassembly later and he produces a small orange pill bottle that contains two green pills.

Whoever's looking through the spimes records again, go ahead and make another Research Test, Also make a second test to determine his destination.

December 26th Update

Aleksander finds the exact time David left the building, a little after 17:00 on Simha 19. What he finds however is not the morph he expected. With all the evidence in place, David is definitely now an attractive female morph in tight clothing wearing a pair specs built as cyberpunk goggles.

To find out where he's gone, that might take lengthier research or some other lead.

Simha 19 is the day last recorded entering the building. Simha 20 is when security entered to check his apartment.

"Any of you know anything about drugs? I've found some."

As he asks, he runs a quick search in the background for common uses of these drugs, if the bottle has a name.

Inactive

Catarina glances at the bottle and the pills.
"David hid them, so I doubt they are legal. Maybe something recreational?"

Kate, can you check if there's any public record of when and where David bought this morph?

December 26th Update

Pivo, go ahead an make a research check.

Catarina, you here back from Kate after a couple moments.

There is no public record of a formal purchase with this morph. This may explain how David was able to enter and exit without his identity being applied.

With a Profession: Ego Hunting roll would I have some inside knowledge for how best to proceed from here?

Profession: Ego Hunting 70: 1d100 ⇒ 57

December 26th Update

Pivo, you realize that the two pills left in the bottle are a mix of Drive and Juice, commonly called Happy thoughts. They are not infected and have effects which give it its street name.

Piglrim, with your training and expereince in these types of missions, you feel as if locating the source of these pills is the best way to go. Someone from David's social circle may know the answer, but extrapolating through knowing dealers in the area and finding the optimal choice David would make could lead you to him. To pursue this route, you would need at least a level 2 g-rep favor.

Inactive

"Anyone knows where you can buy a morph without a public record?"

Not 100% sure what to roll, but I have g-rep of 35
Aleks pauses and thinks for a few seconds while pinching the bridge of his nose. "I may know a person to ask."

I think Networking: Criminal is good for this one, Aleks.

"If you can find their dealer, I'd be much obliged. I'll try to look up Marie Danielson, the friend of theirs you found earlier. Maybe she can tell us what he was up to the last couple of weeks."

"As for the morph- there could well be criminal resleeving facilities in town but you'd have to be desperate, a criminal yourself or a fool to use them; great way to end up with several forks enslaved by Nine Lives."

Research 55 to find Marie Danielson: 1d100 ⇒ 41

"This formula is called Happy Thoughts. A mixture of Drive and Juice."

December 26th Update

Aleks: so your g-rep is 35 which allows you to find a level 2 favor. However, you're not that great at networking since your criminal networking skill is at 15. There is no modifier since the favor is within your reputation level, but you rolled a 32 so you failed in finding good enough connections to get the info you need.

Aleksander, not being able to track down those with the info already, but the bastards aren't giving it up with his less than stellar networking skills. Technology is where it's at, technology won't tell you to bugger off when you're asking it for info. And with that, Aleksander hunches over and begins to work on parsing through information.

Pilgrim is able to find Marie Danielson easily enough, most of the public forums she frequents are also those of the missing David. She even lives within the complex. You have her room number for a physical visit or can contact her through the mesh (like a video chat).

"What do you say we have a face-to-face chat with Ms. Danielson- just so she doesn't realize that we've broken into David's place. Maybe she knows his dealer or has a description of them... But what's our angle when we interview her? We stick with our student alibis, say one of David's professors is looking for him? Or we're ego hunters and he may have run off with Cognite intellectual property?"

"That is a good question. I am not one for deception. I am not against it, I just find that I am not good at it. I defer to the others in this decision."

Inactive

"I'm not sure. The ego-hunters angle might be better. But, as Pivo, I'm not a good liar. SO, if the questions start, I'd probably shouldn't be the one talking."

"Let's get this interview started, then. Keep an eye on her body language while we're talking, that may be more helpful than anything she says."

Pilgrim will lead the way down to Marie's apartment and buzz her.

"Ms. Danielson- sorry to interrupt, but may we ask you a few questions?", he says by way of introduction.

December 26th Update

Need a decision on what to do. in person or video chat, also are you leaving the room, complex, going to her room, etc.

"Pilgrim" wrote:

Going to her place since we have her room number for a face to face.

I was too snarky, sorry.

Any results from my research?

December 26th Update

Aleksander, a good time later, cracks into the social accounts of David. There's not much here though. It seems like any regular college student, he had a public 'face' account and probably several proxy accounts where he did anything illicit if he did anything like that. You do see he has several conversations with Marie, on several message boards. Since this is the face account, it says a lot about their friendship.
Infosec takes a heck of long time, assume you are not with the others for now.

All good Pilgrim, didn't read any snark actually.
Marie answers the door, you see a short pixie cut slicer morph looking very stressed. Behind her, you see a school project of sorts.

"Uh, can I help you? And who the hell are you?"

Pivo looks at the project as others talk. what does it look like? should i roll something to recognize it?

"Ms. Danielson, I'm Woo Lim Park and these are my associates. We've been hired to look into your friend David Williams' recent disappearance. We'd like to ask you a few questions.", Pilgrim says in his most no-nonsense professional voice.

Would this be a Deception or Protocol roll? Or Persuasion?

Inactive

Catarina will quietly observe Marie's reactions to the questions.

I suppose that would be some Kinesics rolls during the conversation.

December 26th Update

Definitely a protocol roll. Its opposed vs Marie's.

You can also make a Kinesics to discern additional information from her.

Pivo, glancing through the door you can see what appears to be a malfunctioning Doc Bot, who appears to be apply bandages to a shell of a morph sitting in a chair. by the looks of it, it's nearing twenty bandages applied.

hmm, i am thinking of offering help regarding the malfunctioning bot. what sort of roll should i make?

December 26th Update

Marie frowns, but the look of belief and concern is in her eyes.

"David, have you found him? Is he alright?"

From your kinesics test, you can tell she's holding something back.

She spots Pivo looking intently at her project.

"Oh that? Just working out a few kinks in the programming. A new triage system that automatically detect the worst injuries and treat those first depending on severity. It's.....well, it's a work in progress."

Go ahead and roll what you would try and fix the problem.

Pilgrim shakes his head, keeping his posture straight and "official".

"Haven't found him, but we will soon. Now, we'll catch him up a lot faster the more information we know- can you describe his morph? Has he been acting strangely of late? Running with a new crowd? Anything that you think even *might* be useful could make a difference."

December 26th Update

Aleksander, you should be finished with your research at this time.

Pivo, I was looking for narrative details as well, but I can work with this.

Someone needs to roll a Persuasion Test at a -30 penalty to convince her.

Pivo, just glancing at the project you can tell that it only needs a few minor tweaks to fix as its stuck in an action loop. With your rolls, you could probably fix it or maybe just give a few pointers.
Fee free to make up details and techno babble.

"If you were willing to cooperate with the man here, I could fix that machine of yours, or at least give you some very detailed pointers. The axionic magnetic modulator, among the very first."

hoping to maybe make the penalty to persuasion for another party member a little less penalized via an earnest offer for assistance.

Inactive

I can try to be more imposing by using Intimidation, but not sure that's a good idea, since we're trying to be friendly here. And my Persuasion defaults to a whopping 10 SAV, so yeah.

A short message arrives through the mesh to each of the group members.

Hey all,
I didn't find much on my end except that Marie and him were close. I couldn't say how close though. Chances are she knows something. I'll keep digging.

After sending the message Aleks gets an idea. He begins searching through the social mesh for this morph alias of David. Recent events, happenings, contact.
