Introduction
Echoes of the Elements is a dungeon-run adventure taking place in a series of dungeon complexes keyed to the elements. Within this complex, an otherworldly group have begun their attempt to catapult their leaders into divinity. Will you be able to quell their ambitions?
Character Requirements
- Players begin at 1st level
- 20 point buy
- Any Official Class/Archetype allowed.
- 2 Non-Campaign Traits
- No Drawbacks
- I will be selecting four adventurers, looking for one character per "purpose". Indicate in the recruitment which purpose your character is aiming for. The purposes are:
- Combatant: A character capable of taking to the front lines, dishing out damage and taking the hits like a champ.
- Healer: A character capable of restoring health points to the party and removing negative effects.
- Spellcaster: A character focusing on casting spells from a distance, with a repertoire capable of supporting the team.
- Hybrid: A mix of one of two or more previous options.
- Each player begins with 500 gp. As a dungeon run, there will be little to no opportunity for any form of purchasing so spend it all now.
- Players also begin with a bag of holding.
Questions?
Ask below! I aim to begin Saturday at the latest.
Just to understand, this is an adventure that is solely a dungeon-run and as such you're not asking for backgrounds? Seems every interesting, I enjoy a good simple dungeon run.
Edit: What level do you see this going to?
Are evil characters allowed?
How long do you plan for this game to run?
A bag of holding(Type I) each or one to share?
Thinking an Invulnerable Rager Barbarian would be effective. Is the Orc race allowed?
Here's my submission if the Orc race is ok, let me know if anything needs to be changed
Here is my submission for a Half-Elf Inquisitor.
I'll be filling a hybrid spellcaster/combatant role.
A basic submission for a Suli-Jann Paladin
Combatant, Healer, or Hybrid.
Backgrounds are welcome but not required. I'm planning on using fast track to power along so at least past 10th and then again, maybe more.
Orc is fine as a race.
A bag of holding each. Carrying capacity is not an issue I want to be dealing with.
Evil characters are fine but they'll need a reason to be with the group. While it is a simple dungeon run, player interaction and roleplay will occur.
Is a skillmonkey character not going to be needed? No traps or similar obstacles?
The challenges will include traps and kin but i've always felt that if you're just a skill character you're not contributing enough to the general survival of the group. Simply put, you can make a pure skill monkey but mark him as being hybrid.
1 person marked this as a favorite.

A skillmonkey who can only use skills is actually a very poor skillmonkey, the name is a bit of a misnomer.
Edit: I've decided to shoot for the Spellcaster slot with a human sorcerer. I'll have the crunch drawn up shortly.
I have returned with my sorcerer done. He's going to be pretty blast, but also will have a lot of utility spells. I've spent most of his beginning wealth on scrolls so he will be very versatile. Feedback is always appreciated, thanks for consideration!
Malthazir Stellarum
Dotting for now, will post a character up later.
Dotting for interest, working on a build
In terms of design and aesthetic, is anyone opposed to a prevailing oriental theme?
I have no qualms about it. There is an abundance of western game so playing the opposite would be a breath of fresh air. It shouldn't effect my character build either way.
My backstory is only one paragraph so I'm fine on that front. My name is germanic though, do I need to switch it?
Do we have to swap weapons and armor over to eastern?
No character changes necessary, this would simply be for NPC, monster and environmental flavor.
If someone wanted the Rich Parent trait, would that put them at 1400 starting gold, or just 900 max? I'm asking because I'd like to play an Undine Qinggong Monk with an Masterwork Undine Weaponshaft Quarterstaff, if possible.

Considering that players also start with a Bag of Holding, that seems reasonable. I just thought it'd be good form to ask for permission, instead of beg for forgiveness, lol.
As a Monk, having a single item makes sense.
Sun Xian hails from an order of Undine monks. Upon his death bed, the grandmaster gifted his specially crafted staff to his most prized student. The understanding between them is that she would one day return to lead the monastery.
Undine Flowing/Qinggong Monk
Didn't realize the quarterstaff couldn't be use with Weapon Finesse, until finished building her. Totally tanks my character concept.
Switching to an Oread two-weapon Fighter.
Posting finalized character to fill the Hybrid role
Going for a Wizard/Monk focussing on the application of electricity in combat. Able to dish out damage from range and in melee as well, I also aim to give him enough hp and AC to wade into combat when necessary.
Any comments are always appreciated :)
I have a fetchling umbral sorcerer focusing on illusions I am cooking up.
A Wizard/Monk sounds like the most MAD character ever, in all senses of the word.
Are 3.5 classes allowed? I was thinking about the Totemist from Magic of Incarnum and if it is allowed I was thinking of making a Frontliner Hybrid with some skill monkey mixed in.

Again, my final selection will be Saturday.
Got frustrated with the non-finessable staff, re-tooled Sun Xian to focus on Unarmed Strike vs Hydraulic Push-ing with an Undine Weaponshaft staff. Still having her focus on Combat Manuveurs, though.
Combatant: Undine Flowing/Qinggong Monk
Feats: Weapon Finesse, Agile Manuveurs
If you wanted a different approach to a quarterstaff style monk, consider using the battle ladder.
Sorry super late to the party. Will tweak once the party is picked/ if I get picked.
The main appeal with the staff was the possibility of using Hydraulic Push through an Undine Weaponshaft. Since they take a penalty to Strength, it's worth the effort to build a Strength-based polearm Undine. I can still get the basic concept without a staff, though.
Alright, from what I can see we have the following submissions:
Spines
Sun Xian
Omara
Dullia
Eldak
Nugats
Out of everyone, only Omara seems to be a healer type but I don't see any ability at 1st that lets you do so.
Spines, I would need your statblock made without rage applications and then a small section labelled "when raging" and the changes it makes.
Sun Xian, is your character finished?
Eldak, you seem to be good to go, dullia as well.
Nugats, as an alchemist What role do you see yourself taking?
I'll give until tonight before choosing. Once the selection process is over, I will need some statblock modifications to make everything easier to read, but we'll get there when we get there.
An admixture wizard is an evocation wizard that can swap out any of the 4 major energy types. I would fill the spell caster role.
description of class
Aspect of the Elements, you seemed to have missed my submission. I hope that I get considered before the deadline. Malthazir
My bad CampinCarl, I even read through him, no worries he's on my list I just forgot to copy him when I wrote it on the pbp post.
Ah, good to know! No worries GM, thanks for letting me know.
She's not finished, yet. I was waiting to see who was picked before I went beyond bare bones. I can finish her up in the next hour, if you need me to.
I still want to wait a little bit, I still need an answer on healing.
As I see it, we have Sun Xian and Spines as Combatants.
Everyone else seems to be Hybrid of some sort.
I can swap bless for CLW and I'll have two castings per day for others, and I have a separate ability to heal myself.
That should hold us over until Omara picks up Lay on Hands.
Dullia Krimhilde wrote: I can swap bless for CLW and I'll have two castings per day for others, and I have a separate ability to heal myself.

As long as everything goes well :)
Alright, so I've made my decision:
Combatant: Sun Xian
Healer: Omara
Spellcaster: Malthazir
Hybrid: Eldrak
Hybrid #2: Dullia Krimhilde
I decided to pick up a fifth character. I apologize for those not selected, but I've gone with large parties in the past and especially in a dungeon centric campaign this may be too hard to balance.
I'll have the Discussion/Gameplay Threads up soon!
