Haven't played a good round of 4E D&D in years, since Rev Rosey's games on paizo. I keep listening to RPPR (Role playing public radio) and am reminded of the fun I've had with the system, but there aren't really many games running. So I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring and say "I'm available."
Not totally familiar with Forgotten Realms or Dark Sun, specific settings like that, but I can learn. Send me a PM if you have a game that needs a player!
Thank you.

Grimcleaver |

One or two more players would be great, but these pbp games tend to implode because they get too big and lag down waiting for someone to post. Two to three players is fine.
More than happy to do a homebrew setting. I have a lot and I never get to use them. If you want some info on a setting I can give you some or you can just pitch a character and I'll fit them in. Faster we can get this going, though the longer it will hopefully go for.

Grimcleaver |

Sure thing. I'll type up a quick setting write-up and we can get folks making characters. You folks are probably it as far as players go. These things fold quick with too many players. I'll get the writeup out as soon as I can. Probably go with a nice setting light homebrew setting since there's folks who aren't as knowledgable about the denser canon settings.

Grimcleaver |

So broadstrokes, the PCs are citizens of an ancient flying city built according to ancient visions that the world is soon to be flooded and everything destroyed. With the world below set to end at any moment, the people of the city have taken to the grand endeavor of salvaging the world below for anything that might be of use to future generations--be it items of cultural worth, great tomes of knowledge and works of art--or objects of more material worth. That these sky brigands sweep down and rob people of their greatest treasures is seen as a service, to preserve them for use by the survivors. The peoples below tend to not share this sentiment.
The city itself is vast and magical, with districts steeped in their own diverse cultures which blend all races together in sometimes unexpected ways. The lands below are seen as being savage and impure, their ideas dangeous and to blame for their impending destruction. Nonetheless any who wish to volunteer for the work of reclaiming the treasures of that cursed land are usually accepted without much thought--there's too much to do and not enough time to be overly choosy about candidates. As such, salvage teams tend to be thrown together from individuals from all sorts of background, with all sorts of motives.
So that's a good start for folks I think. Have fun and if you have any questions, shoot me a line.

Garell, human cleric of Avandra (or whatever deity of civilization you deem fit.) Background is "Blessed Birth," with the idea being that at birth the slight and distant noise of angels singing could be heard by his mother, who subsequently sent him to study in the temple. Raised in the faith, and steeped in the mythology/propaganda of the city, his focus on any missions "below" will be to recover artifacts of civilization.
He is an amicable fellow, and could act as the "glue" for the party, keeping them together, healthy and working together to savfe as much history of the world as possible.

Peasant Railgun |
Sooner I can hear from Railgun the better, just to know he's alive out there.
I'm Still Alive! Here are some character concepts:
- A shifter hybrid cleric|druid (sentinel). He's part of a collaboration between the Church of Ioun and the Verdant Circle to preserve a copy of the Living Library (ancient druidic knowledge magically inscribed on tree bark) on Erarat. He often finds time away from duties to indulge in some picking on the surface. (Although he's nominally of the leader role, he can fill in for some of the other three roles too.)
- A human fighter, who traded in her priceless heirloom sword in return for sanctuary on Erarat (which was a good deal for her since the sword is allegedly cursed).
- A dragonborn warlock. An option if no-one picks striker.
Okay so Railgun, personally I'd be happy to play one of my previous chars like Raya Iatos, the Paladin, or Shoso Makenzie the goofy Bard, so what'd you like to play?
I'd say Raya should step up to bat, so that Shoso can one day mock defeat the Reunion of Horrors with Norrin.

Mur |

If I'm reading others correctly, it sounds like the Controller spot will be open. I'll look at making a wizard or psion of some sort (I'm a fan of both classes, so it'll be a good fit either way).
Either concept should work really well for Erarat - a bookish sort, willing to travel with others to the surface. I like the idea of him trying to preserve knowledge before The Last Age comes to a destructive end. He'll definitely be the type to preserve the artifacts over his own skin, but I also see a slight selfish bent to his adventures (if he's the first one to the surface, he gets first crack at whatever arcane/psionic treasures may be down there!).

Grimcleaver |

Sounds good. So the party shapes up like this:
Seth: Garell (Human Cleric)
Zerombr: Raya Iatos (Paladin...probably)
Mur: (scholar of some kind)
Peasant Railgun: (Shifter Cleric/Druid...maybe)
Look things over, see if anyone wants to make any changes, certainly feel free to give me as much background stuff for yout characters as you want. I dig that stuff. I'll come up with a nameswap list for the clerics so Ioun or Erathis or Avandra need not be ported into the setting. But yeah things look good.

if you don't mind, Grim, I'd like to send an email to Rev Rosey to see if she's in on it before we establish anything further? She ran a lot of 4E games on here and I'd like to pay it forward by letting her have a chance to play or pass on a 4E game.
Granted I can't exactly say 'i want this person in this game' or anything, but I feel I should see if she's up for it.

ERARAT: The Last Age |

The sooner people can get characters statted up and posted, the sooner we can get started--but yeah if some of you guys want to swap out for other players that'd be fine. The hope is really to get started soon though, before the coals start to get cold.
Oh and I should be able to post the gods list later tonight.

Rev Rosey |

It's been a while but Peasant and Zero both suggested I take a look. If you are willing, Grimcleaver I'll leap into the water.
One thing - I'm in the UK, so my timing is probably completely out of whack with everyone else. I can post frequently most days, but only at either end of the day (work placement has no internet access).
I'll have a rummage though my backlog of discarded characters and see who's available and will fit into the cluster of miscreants. Looks like a striker of some sort would be welcome.

welcome back Rev. The forum is a brighter place with your return. I was going to roll off with PG to see who gave up their spot, but he beat me to the punch so I guess I get to stick around this time.
Hrmmm, part of me wants to just play Kendall again, Knights are interesting but they don't need to do a lot, so my rounds are pretty simple. I may go for Fighter, but as I said, I'll decide before the day's over

Rev Rosey |

Blushing slightly at the warm welcome. Thank you all.
I have an assortment of warlocks at my disposal, but I think, in honour of the occasion, I'll roll up a new one.
A few questions . . .
Any class/race restrictions I need to know about?
And do we use themes and associated powers or not?
Starting kit?
Will start putting together Edie shortly.

Edie Thwaite |

Edie. Still in progress, but basically there.
She's inevitably a clumsy cow (yes, indeed, Dex was the dump stat), but she's got a decent amount of hp and some varied skills.
Edit: I guess there must be some sheep somewhere to support the city, but tell me if I'm wrong and I'll re-work the background.

Kai-Sovis Eclavim |

As the name currently suggests.
This is Mur's Mage (actual name coming soon, lol)
He's very book smart, with lots of knowledges...
He's incredibly weak and also a bit clumsy (low STR and low DEX), but hearty for a mage (good CON) and he'll use his magic to offset most adventuring problems (like his Chameleon power that let's him use Arcana for Stealth Checks).
...
I went with Fire Genasi (but Grim if that doesn't work in the setting, I can go with another choice)... I was thinking something along the lines of the "Lost Child" concept. He has no real notion of his childhood or his parents.
His earliest memories would be of finding himself in Erarat, adopted by the local wizard's guild. He learns magic quickly and well, but doesn't really fit in (being "not natural", by definition). Joining a crew that delves to the surface allows him the chance to maybe find some clues that will tell him more about himself and/or his people and/or how he got to Erarat even.
I'm pretty much done (I have to pick a name still, lol) and I'm also mulling on my feat - I was thinking of taking a multiclass to maybe help the group with extra healing/support. I'll be decided by tonight.

Kendall Steelshod |

Fully updated and back in action, good sirs.
Knight in service, Kendall Steelshod.
I'll post a brief background for Kendall as well, I tend to write small snippets of life instead of writing paragraphs of what the character has done, I find that especially for homebrew worlds, it's better to understand who a character is and why he does what he does in broad strokes, than anything else.

Kendall Steelshod |

A young dwarven knight stands in a common home, near his father, with his back turned.
"But I *am* thinking of the future, Father. Our future! How can we expect to thrive, to live by example if we have none to follow?"
"Son, you're not thinking rationally. The examples of a hundred thousand dwarves live before us. They are all our kin, Kendall, all of them. Always so obsessed with the here, the now. Your own legacy."
The armored figure turns around, his hands up. "It is NOT wrong to want a family line to follow! Father, we HAVE no lineage, no guides in life..."
The scene fades into darkness.
My father...he was as good a dwarf as any, cursed with the lack of knowledge of who he was really. A victim of aggression, a mere babe when his town was pillaged and set aflame. No record existed of who he was, who he is. I admire that he stood tall as he grew older, that he had hewn from life itself a name, Steelshod. But he and I have no ancestors. We have no stories to tell of old, none that relate to us. The only course of action that I saw before me was to make those stories myself. If my family line, as stunted as it is, is to make any progress in the future, someone has to be known of deeds, of mettle.
A scene reappears, of the same figure, kneeling in the barracks with a handful of other squires.
If there is to be a future for me and mine, It falls upon me to have wrought a proper legacy to uphold. Honor, Mettle...the essence of what we must distill in life. I only hope to gain a true title of Knighthood, a small plot of land, and a life worth admiring, before my time on this mortal coil expires...

Peasant Railgun |
In order to keep the ball rolling, let me present my candidate for the role of leader: Sister Aleena Thurman.
Think Maria from the Sound of Music meets the Bride from Kill Bill.
