Evan speaks in a silky and soothing language that the dog listens to intently... it turns and attacks the last of the grunts...
attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
And what the heck... Evan will huck a sling bullet at him too.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Dungeon Master S |

Both Evan and his celestial ally just barely miss (magic number her is 14, just in case you forgot Fel's chanting.)
Harnac, however, finishes him off. The big thug desperately tries to shake off the spell: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4, and he continues to laugh.
INITIATIVE REPOST:
Evan:
Azdak:
Harnac
Big Thug:
Thugs:
Fel: Current
Sumac
Gripper
Orryn
Stellah
Azdak:
Big Thug 4

![]() |

Fel delays to the end of the round.

![]() |

Sumac and Gripper
Sumac gives the wolf the command to attack trusting (hoping, perhaps gambling) that Gripper cant finish off the thug in one attack before he can call him off.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22
bite 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The halfling raises his sling and carefully fires aiming for a non-lethal target on the thug, hoping to just subdue him and not kill him.
1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 23
bullet 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

Dungeon Master S |

Gripper runs over and starts biting the thug (after giving an appreciative bark towards the celestial dog of Evan's.) Sumac makes a solid hit (not critical though). Orryn and Stellah.
Big Thug 8
Nonlethal 4

Dungeon Master S |

Your confirmation roll was too low.

![]() |

Orryn and Stellah move up right behind Hack to keep the baddie covered in case he recovers and tries to escape.

Dungeon Master S |

Being the only bad guy left, and surrounded by the party, the bad guy will do what he thinks is best. Rage and kill. Unfortunately, there's nothing he can do about THAT many people pig piling on him. You bind him, and begin interrogation. It starts with diplomacy, trying to reason with the half-orc. He spits in everyone's faces at that. Then you lie, promise him everything you think he wants to hear, or tricking him in all manner of ways. Then he tries to bite you all. Sumac adds a couple of wraps of the rope to his mouth. After that, you try direct threats. You take your sweet ol'time, and STILL his religious ferver for the Moon of Death is stronger. You eventually decide he has nothing to say, so you....

![]() |

If any o' ye be of weak stomach, turn yer heads now.
Hack lifts his axe, giving enough time for the squeamish to look away (or those with more mercy to perhaps have their say) before letting it fall.
Assuming no arguments to the contrary...
Yer sure to rot in hell, orc-spawn.
SKLURCH
Then search the bodies, and explore the room.

Dungeon Master S |

And with that....we're out of initiative.

The halfling pats Gripper in a job well done then goes forward to free/ungag the trio of slaves.
What is the race/sex/general description of the slaves? Anything else Sumac observes?
perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
What about their general health? Sumac will attempt to give whatever medical aid they need.
healing 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14

Dungeon Master S |

The main thug is wearing an enchanted chain shirt, and never got to wield his enchanted heavy flail. The other equipment is mundane.
The prisoners seem okay physically. They express their thanks vociferously. They mention that they saw an emaciated man with a freakishly long tongue turn slaves into skeletons with some kind of magic. They motion to the stairs that lead down. They don't seem to have any additional information, but eagerly look to you for direction.

Dungeon Master S |

They look at you in abject terror at the very thought.

![]() |

Hack will take the flail (this'll be better against bony undead critters than me axe).
Regarding the prisoners...How about this. Orryn and Azdak, you two lead these blokes out and come right back. We'll stay here, examine the room, see if there's anything else to see, and wait fer ye to return a'fore we move on. Ye should only be a couple moments, tis not far. Sound good?

Dungeon Master S |

The men you've freed also like this plan, much better. The trip goes without incident, and the instant you hit the streets they run off. The trip back is also quiet.

![]() |

Sumac looks around in the crypt while the others take the prisoners to freedom.
perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
The small druid also looks for tracks from the thugs and prisoners. Where were they coming from? Can Sumac tell where they were going? ( like maybe about to go through a secret door)
survival 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"No troubles! Here we are back safe and sound. Did you boys find anything useful?"
Believe it or not good Azdak, we sat here mutely and did absolutely nothing in the short time you were gone. It was quite boring and not a little surreal.

Dungeon Master S |

One of the tombs has a masterwork scimitar in it (nonmagical), but otherwise there isn't much in this room.

Dungeon Master S |

The stairway leads onward. Several ornate burial niches adorn the passage walls. In the passage’s southwest corner, shattered niches reveal a massive set of iron double doors. An image carved on the doors depicts a dispassionate figure holding a gibbous moon. (Map updated)

![]() |

As usual Sumac looks around carefully as the party moves down the burial corridor. Anything standout among the ornate (treasure?) burial niches?
perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
At the massive iron double doors the Halfling moves forward to listen
perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
The small druid also looks to see Gripper's reaction as they approach the doors.
Gripper's scent perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

Dungeon Master S |

Sumac, always the astute finds nothing of interest except for large samples of the embalming fluid used on the dead. You even find a few intact.

Sumac, always the astute finds nothing of interest except for large samples of the embalming fluid used on the dead. You even find a few intact.
Does Sumac hear anything at the door?

Dungeon Master S |

Harnac and Azdak, do you guys want to do anything before advancing?

![]() |

"Hold up, guys!" Azdak speaks up. "Can we please take a few minutes to study these burial niches. I know time is pressing, but I need to see if I can locate one of these embalmed dead. Ambrus Valsin asked me to study and report the embalming techniques to him should I find one. I promise, it won't take too long."
Azdak tries to understand what he can of the embalming techniques used in the dead. He looks for a manual, at the corpses, as well as any embalming tools and containers.

Man, I totally forgot that half of our mission!! I was concentrating on bringing back the bad guy's head and spaced the embalming technique report thing. Thanks!!

No problem. Grip and I will guard the doors while you do your research.

Dungeon Master S |

Thankfully Azdak keeps his mind on the less violent part of the mission. He successfully catalogs the techniques. His report is thorough thanks to Sumac's sharp eyes.
A purple glow washes over this cold chamber, creating an otherworldly sheen. A large desk adorns the south wall; behind its oaken bulk hangs a large map of Cassomir. Straw-lined cages line the chamber’s east and west walls. In the center of the room, resting on a small pedestal, a black rock absorbs the chamber’s bright torch light. Sitting at a desk on the opposite end of this long chamber is a man whose skin is stretched far too tight. He's working on something when he looks up as you open the door.

![]() |
Anything in the cages? Engineers perhaps? And the person at the desk definitely noticed us huh?
What I want to have Evan say: "Hello my name is Evan. Just Evan. You kidnapped my engineers. Prepare to die."

![]() |

Sumac and Gripper enter the room. The halfling quickly scans for any important details.
perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
If the cages are empty, can Sumac tell what was previously in the cages? Based on size, food or left over food scraps, scat, smells, shed skin/fur/feathers, etc...
knowledge nature 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Dungeon Master S |

The cages each contain a skeleton. The figure definitely notices you.

![]() |

Azdak makes a bluff in a slight theatrical role that he thinks he can handle, knowing what he does about engineering. He figures that it will buy the company time at the very least and may even put his opponent off his guard.
"Well, met! I'm engineer Azdak. I am here to supervise the other engineers. Can you point me in their direction, please? We certainly want to make sure their work is up to the standard it needs to be. It can't be these half starved blokes here in the cells can it?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Dungeon Master S |

It's a noble effort Azdak, but considering the situation, the DC is modified by the "lie is impossible." He doesn't seem to believe you.
He looks up from his paperwork, "Interesting and foolish. Come here and let us discuss what it's going to take for me to let you out instead of locking you away in one of these lovely chambers..." as he finishes speaking he gives you a big smile full of sharp teeth, and he runs his elongated tongue along the entire line of his jaw.

Dungeon Master S |

Well then. Let's roll initiative shall we? Please place your "mini" on the map for where you'd have been when Sumac cast his spell.
