Yeah, sad to see you go F. Castor. Definitely agree that if you're not feeling it with Joneth, you should leave him behind. I'll echo the others that if you decide to try something else, c'mon back. I suspect things may head in a different direction now that we're in charge of our own ship.

According to James Jacobs, you can make a tool for any skill. descriptions are left intentionally vague so that players and GMs have free reign coming up with the kinds of things that they think would warrant the bonuses. Examples referenced for Intimidate were scary masks or helms.
I'm thinking that a coat made from two animated grindylows probably qualifies. :)
I didn't know you were our resident crafter. I think you and I will be spending some quality time together soon. ;)

Yay, new portrait!
This is pretty close to the image of deader I had when I created him. I'm glad he's survived long enough to go from a drowned rat to this. :)
If the image were perfect, the shadow under the hood would be deeper so only the white eyes showed, and the picture would be grinning.
I'd originally thought that deader would be more of a fancy hat kinda guy, but I'm really liking the pale hood. He's not wearing it yet because I haven't finished my creepy coat, but as soon as it's done, that's pretty much what he'll look like.

Gameplay post incoming shortly, but wanted to give a small clarification vs the AP as written. If we followed the AP, then there are four events (three with no connection to forward plot) that you'd need to wade through before getting back out on the open water.
So I'm stripping the three, and running with just the one that has some forward implications.

Can we not skip loot, bounty, or booty? I'm not rich enough not to consider stealing door fittings and beggars bowls yet :p
2700gp at L4 sucks :p
And those crew wont feed themselves!

Obisyth |

As long as we are able to gain the experience so that we do not suddenly find ourselves a level or two behind the expected game level, I say ditch anything that will slow the game, but allows for the AP to proceed smoothly.
EDIT - I second Cedrick's booty statement. The only thing worse than being under leveled is being the proper level, but way below the WBL.

Thats it, a 'Scooby Doo ending' is where a range of possible endings are debated and flashed though in 30 seconds yet invariably end in "I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you damned kids" and the show wraps seconds later with a joke and a high five :p
And yeah woof woof > meoow.

Yes, the death was all her player! Gen Con winds up being so much wall-to-wall gaming that I don't come up for air. And two of the four scenarios I ran (8 total slots), didn't come out until the Friday before the con making proper prep a real challenge!

Obi, I'd like to sit down with you and craft you up a pair of Muleback Cords.
With your penchant for making yourself bigger and changing yourself into other things that could be an impressive carrying capacity. I'm going to need help hauling these kinds of bodies around. I'll pay the materials cost if you'll agree to be my Sherpa.

Nice. Will have to figure what Obi would think about carrying a bunch of dead bodies around though.

I'll just put out a small marker - if you're going for a ship of the dead, you'll probably need to commit wholesale to it and mostly do away with the live crew.
While the speech bought you time and some discretion, I think that a significant portion of pirates are going to take one look at Deader's grindy-jacket and decide to off-hire at the next port...
That's not necessarily a problem, just means that once we leave Rickety's you'll need to search out those crew with compatible proclivities.

You're closer than you think:
summoner 4, witch 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M
Range touch
Targets one or more humanoid corpses touched
Duration 1 day/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
This spell turns corpses into skeletons (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary
250) that act as crew and obey your commands to the extent of
their abilities.
The undead you create are 1 Hit Die skeletons that possess
Profession (sailor) scores equal to half your character level plus
your Wisdom modifier (for clerics), Intelligence modifier (for
witches and wizards), or Charisma modifier (for sorcerers and
summoners). Each skeleton can perform the duties of one crew
member but has no other abilities. The created skeletons cannot
speak, attack, or even defend themselves. The only orders they
obey are ones pertaining to the operation of a ship. Skeletal crew
members are not proficient with any weapons or armor.
You can’t create more Hit Dice of skeletal crew members
than twice your caster level with a single casting of skeleton
crew. The desecrate spell doubles this limit.
The undead you create by casting skeleton crew remain
under your control for the duration of the spell, and do not
count against your limit of total Hit Dice worth of undead
creatures you can control.
A skeletal crew member can only be created from a mostly
intact humanoid corpse. The corpse must have bones. When you
cast this spell, any flesh left on the corpses melts away into fog.

I think I'm going to shell out for a hat of disguise to avoid the problems inherent in being a necromancer. That way I can wear my grindyjacket, and make it look like a regular coat. I'll probably toss a cloak over it just in case someone can see through illusions.
Also, I'm not planning on strapping corpses to Obi. I just figure that we're going to keep coming across ones that I want to keep to raise later. I'm just trying to come up with a decent way of getting them back to the ship.
I suppose a wand of Shrink Object would work pretty well too.

I was thinking the corpses could be preserved with Gentle Repose and we could sideline as a travelling museum of curiosities, no one would be any the wiser that they weren't looking at exhibits so much as stock.
Not quite sure, but Chuck Testa appears to have been taxidermized as well.
______________
Since Obi is N and may tilt toward NE, I will have think about how to play her acceptance of the undead. She also is not the sharpest one around, Intelligence of 8, so she could probably be convinced that this is simply reusing nature's bounty.
I have another evil druid, but she is a Blight druid in a Way of the Wicked campaign and is going down the vampiric road, but with a Nosferatu twist. So, I know that druids and undead can be worked together. It is just hard to put to two together.
In the end, I like this party. So Deader and I will figure a way to work together that is in character for both of us. Perhaps having him avoid some of the more "natural" creatures - aquatic birds, aquatic mammals, etc. Also, Obi did not exactly follow the path of the druid like many characters did and she is Oni-blooded, so I have a lot of versatility with how she is role played.

John Rhasp |

Smart. I could probably stick the Ghoul up there. They're actually intelligent and have decent perception scores.
I'd have to release the "lock" I have on the ghoul's personality though, and give him some clothes that hide what he is just in case anyone takes a good look. I'd planned on doing all that at some point anyway. This seems like a good opportunity.
I'll do a write-up about it tomorrow.
