No problem killing evil creatures, the problem is this specific case. My personal view on roleplaying is that you can do things you can't in videogames. If I was playing Skyrim or something else, dude would have died within seconds. I posted something in the discussion board that helps identify Hajar's worldview, which wouldn't be uncommon among worshipers of Sarenrae.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

I totally agree with you and I understand. I just don't know how to get past this point the way we are going. Its more along the lines that you kill a rat because its a menace not because it has evil intent. I don't know how you are gonna deal with the next step of the quest either is the problem.

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

"An accident at birth that leads to misery is indeed a cause to give redemption. This being revels in its power and seeks to cause misery through its misuse. It wanted to kill us. It wanted to hurt people. I think we cannot trust such a malicious creature. If you do not feel comfortable ending its life, Hajar, I will do so."

Grim The Wanderer |

Well i have no moral obligation or anything. so once again the fire is probably an accident cause by the creature just being there. Ok that is solved. But i did steal the goat and was planning to do horrible things to it. We got the goat back, we have the creature that proved it wasn't a member of the caravan. Its evil. Its its allied with Gnolls. There case solved problem's over lets turn it over to the caravan master. Done end of story. We have bigger Gnolls to fry.

Al-Akim Naziri |

"Hajar, I have rope. Here, bind the creature and let's get moving on. I desire to be finished with this task, it will bring me no joy."Al-Akim seems sullen and distracted.
Is this a test Sarenrae? Why do you block our path with one so insignificant as this? Grant me wisdom my lady.

Hajar nar Jundi |

The difference, a big one, is that the rat has no INT score and thus is not self aware. PM sent.

Al-Akim Naziri |

Hajar does have detect evil, however this is not a end-all solution. Redemption is still possible even for beings with an evil alignment. Undead, demons/devils and so on are unfailingly evil. Other creatures should be given opportunity to repent. This is the issue for Hajar and Hamzah, and to a lesser extent Naziri.

nilesr |

Gunk, that wouldn't really solve much and I feel like everyone is missing the point. Evil Alignment does not equal a death sentence. Gunk committing murder wouldn't really help in this situation. In fact it would only exacerbate things and lead to some ill will.

Al-Akim Naziri |

Misfortune: 1d100 ⇒ 60
Naziri, takes the lead of the group, and following their own tracks leads them back to the camp and Almah, to hopefully be done with this moral conundrum.

"This way friends."

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Skip the d100 roll I'm just going to move past this.
Your trip back to camp is filled with misfortune. (I can't help but think there may be some ill will towards Hajar that he will not allow the creature to be killed before trial) No one takes any real damage but there is a lot of unnecessary tripping and falling.
Once back at camp Almah asks you
What did you find my brave adventures? Did you find this terrible creature that killed Eloais?

Hajar nar Jundi |

In a way Mistress Almah, we did find this pugwampi, a pitiful being named Rukk. It's very presence causes misfortune and ill luck. We believe that it was sneaking through the camp and somehow Eloais's caravan caught fire. It then stole the goat and fled.
Hajar makes this statement standing in front of the creature which is bound and gagged?
Mistress, I beg a boon from you. Do not kill this creature, instead allow it to work off its crime. During that time I will watch Rukk and if he commits evil I will personally bring him to justice.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Almah;
Dashki was correct then. This creature caused the fire. Almah looks the creature over. By your own account the very presence of this creature causes misfortune. I will not put the people of this caravan in danger by letting this thing live. I owe Eloais that much at least. Garval dispatch this creature. She gives the comand with no emotion.

![]() |

Nemaides "CAH-CAW!s" in triumph and takes off, though not before crashing into a wagon and cursing and spluttering about this being the worst night ever.
At least some people around here understand pest control... He stretches out his hand, and the rope unwinds away from the creature's vital areas, though still keeping its hands and feet entangled.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Mistress please, I beg you. Rethink this action in holy Sarenrae's name! Hajar cries as he begs for Rukk's life. I will do the deed myself if Rukk does not do penance and walk in the light. It would do your soul a great service do allow one such as he the opportunity to change their circumstance.
If Almah or Garavel cannot be persuaded, Hajar will watch the proceedings to ensure that Rukk is killed cleanly and quickly.

Gunk |

Almah, that is a wise decision. The mere presence of this creature creates some kind of aura of misfortune and the beast revels in the chaos it creates. It utters threats of violence and torture. It set a trap for us using the goat as bait and shot at us unprovoked. This creature, by it's very nature is evil and must be destroyed. I'd have seen it done already but I wished to avoid some unpleasantness with my new companions.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Almah ignores praise and criticism alike on the matter.
Garavel's stroke is swift and clean. You can tell he is a very experenced swordsman from the blow. He takes no pleasure in the deed it is just what must be done.
Dashki on the other hand moves to claim the body as a trophy. So that he may tie the creature to his staff by a noose.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar moves to intercept Dashki. His eyes begin to burn as if they are on fire. You will not display this creature as a badge of honor! Begone villian.
Depending on the outcome of this I see two things occuring
1) Dashki forces Hajar into conflict.
2) Dashki relents and Hajar buries Rukk.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Dashki
I do not see why you care so much for this Evil creature! I think maybe you are the evil one! He shouts then spits at Hajar's feet and walks away.
Everyone in the caravan sees this and starts to whisper in agreement with Dashki. The pugwampi is so vile and ugly it must be evil!
Everyone except Almah and Garavel. Almah cares only that you got results.
It is late at night and Almah tells you that your terms of employment will be discussed in the morning.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar will take the corpse and bury it in accordance with Sarenrae's rites. He will say the prayers alone if neccesary, although perhaps Hamzah and Al-Akim will join him in his devotions. After this he will retire for the evening.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

You guys post a lot while Im asleep. So do what you want before you camp then respond to this.
The next morning Almah meets with the seven of you.
Almah:
The Sultan's Claw is much too exposed to be a permant camp. I know of an old monastery about a mile from here that would be much more sutable. If I remember right it was built by a saint of Sarenrae. If you go secure the monastery for us and help secure Kalmarane I am prepared to offer you each 200 gp. What do you say?

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

Sorry guys. I took a nap. I didn't expect to sleep this long.
Hamzah draws Hajar off to the side.

![]() |

Pleased that Almah is conveniently allowing him to inspect the monastery without the direct oversight of either herself or Garavel, and by extension, the pact masters, Raj responds enthusiastically. Of course! The things that may be discovered there are practically reward in and of themselves. We'll see to it that it's cleared of whatever pests have taken up residence there.
He then mutters to Gunk out of the side of his mouth; And if it really is Sarenian, I doubt even Hajar will argue to much about killing any monsters that have since taken up residence and 'defiled' it.
I have prepared a new set of spells for the day

Leyli Wildspeaker |

I fell asleep early this morning, and when I wake up wow 27 new posts.
Backtracking a little,
Leyli saw how swift the justice was served and for that her mind is at peace, she moves on to the troubled cleric in his defense, "It may be evil in nature but harmony exists because of this balance. Some becomes evil so others can be good." Leyli grabs the cleric, "Come my friend, I'll accompany you in burying the creature. Excuse us."
------------------------
"I will help in the best that I can," Leyli looks at the worshippers of Sarenrae, "Maybe you will be able to seek your penance within this monastery."

"Cleansing a monastery built by a Saint of Sarenrae I consider my duty. The coin I shall take as a means to carry out this duty. Sarenrae thanks you for your donation to our cause." Hamzah looks to Hajar and Al-Akim, "This is why we came. We will do The Dawnflower's work in the days to come. Praise upon Sarenrae for providing us this opportunity to do her work. We will do her honor in the battles to come."

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

Hamzah addresses the group, "So as there will be no conflict, I wish to make known that we lay no claim on those items of value that are within the monastery save for those items specifically made to honor Sarenrae. Coin, jewels, and other such items we will allow to be divided. Should we find any holy books or specific items such as statues or altars dedicated to the Dawnflower, we will not have them defiled. If something of great value is found that is claimed by us, we will reimburse the group for the loss. Sarenrae is a just and fair goddess."

Hajar nar Jundi |

When the sun rises....
Hajar prayed to his goddess alone near the grave site. His view of the pugwampi was so different than everyone. He could not understand. It had a name, its name was Rukk. Hajar prayed for Rukk's soul, that it would find the light. Hajar met the dawn with a tear streaked face, and felt new.
He ended his prayers with recitation.
I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my
actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by the sword. I will not abide evil, and will combat it with steel when words are not enough. I do not flinch from my faith, and do not fear embarrassment. My soul cannot be bought for all the stars in the sky. I will show the less fortunate the light of the Dawnflower. I will live my life as her mortal blade, shining with the light of truth. Each day is another step toward perfection. I will not turn back into the dark.
Hajar is subdued during the meeting with Almah, he is not his normal expressive self. He seems listless and ready to leave the camp. The failure with Rukk had left a stain on his soul. Surely cleansing the monastery would restore him.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

I confused Hajar and Hamzah.
"My instincts tell me, that it is going to be a very hot day. Please prepare accordingly."

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

Hamzah pulls the group together for a talk before they leave, "If we are to fight together, we must understand each other. Some are confused by Hajar's desire to redeem the Pugwampi. It is the will of Sarenrae that we offer redemption to our enemies. It is the hope of the Dawnflower that once an evil creature is shown mercy and kindness, it will turn to the light. Much of the conflict in the world is caused by two sides that do not understand or to try to understand the other. Sarenrae wishes us to offer mediation in these conflicts.
We who follow the Dawnflower will offer redemption to our enemies. If they accept, we will look after them. You need not trouble yourselves unless you wish to share in turning evil to good.
But we are not fools either. If we cannot properly secure any dangerous enemies that we offer redemption, we will not allow them to harm others. This we promise. I hope that Hajar and Akim are in agreement."

You do not have enough information on the monastery right now to know anything. When you get to the monastery you will, we will just keep that 17 you rolled for then.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

The monastery is a mile away and the journey is tiring due to the oppressive heat.
The air is clean and dry and there is little wind today.
You hear very few sounds in the desert other than your own feet in the dirt.
You pass by a mound of sand and dirt near a large cactus only to find that it was no dirt mound at all but the hiding place of a Giant Scorpion! The 16 foot long scorpion bursts out of its hiding place sensing prey near. It attacks thinking it has an easy meal!
Combat Round 1. No surprise round as it is too big to be sneaky bursting out of the ground.
First post goes first. Include what round your action is taking place in. After you see 7 round 1 posts and ,my scorpion go,you may post your round 2 action. My monsters will never go first but they may go in the middle somewhere. AC 16 flat footed 9 Touch 16. I'm going to give you this info so you can flavor text your own hits and misses. It should make it fun and go a little faster. I will still keep up with hit points myself. We will see if this goes any better, and if not we will make more changes like adding initiative if needed.Good Luck!

Hajar upon seeing the beast charges with his falchion glinting in the morning light.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9
Hajar stumbles into a depression in the ground and this causes his swing to go wild.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

As Leyli was surveying the area ahead of the group, she notices something peculiar about the mound. She's halfway towards it when a giant scorpion arises! "We are not your prey, and we will surely prove it to you soon!" says Leyli as she commands Furball to surround the scorpion, which the lion obeys without question.
Leyli rushes in towards the side and draws her quarterstaff, working in tandem with her was her trusty companion, going for the kill.
