OK, I need to know who is doing what as far as changes to character. If you are ready to go, please say so. then we can decide if we need another player. I plan to start this no later than Monday March 26.
Yes, i know that's quick, but we should be mostly ready anyhow. Remember, we'll be learning as we go, so i expect a slowish go of it at first.

F. Castor |

Going with a Neutral Male Android Soldier with a close combat focus myself. Not sure about ship role, but he can always be the Gunner if the other roles are filled. Alternatively, since he will be trained in two skills from among Computers, Engineering and Piloting, he can always act as something else as well.

Fighting Chicken |

I'm assuming that RavenVoren is still going mechanic, so I was thinking of going with an athlete, dumb as a box of rocks, good natured though. Envoy for class, to work as face for the party. Was thinking he or she would play a game like lacrosse with a dosko (and thus be good at the ftf combat).
BUT, if Morphling is going mystic, we may not need a face. In which case I could go Operative. And with Castor going hth, we probably don't need another melee'r.
Decisions, decisions.

Solar Disciple (Wis) - The Sun
Roboticist (Int) - Aballon
Wild Warden (Wis) - Castrovel
Corporate Agent (Cha) - Absalom Station
Gladiator (Con) - Akiton
Cyberborn (Int) - Verces
Tempered Pilgrim (Cha) - Idari
Space Pirate (Dex) - Diaspora
Death-Touched (Con) - Eox
Dragonblood (Cha) - Triaxus
Dream Prophet (Wis) - Liavara
Biotechnician (Int) - Bretheda
Xenoarchaeologist (Int) - Apostae
Cultist (Con) - Aucturn
Of course, envoys, mechanics, operatives, and solarians of all types can benefit from being able to wear more than the standard number of hybrid and magic items at later levels. Along with mystics and technomancers, solarians receive Mysticism as a class skill (as does any character with the priest theme), allowing them to take full advantage of the magic item scholar alternate class feature. A character who takes this archetype can benefit from the mercenary theme’s increase to bulk limit and the xenoarchaeologist theme’s (see page 137) innate familiarity with magic items of unknown provenance.
Divine Champion
Divine champions can arise from any class, though some classes are more likely for worshipers of certain deities. Mystics who take the divine champion archetype usually want to cast their connection spells more frequently. The cultist (see page 147), dream prophet (see page 117), and solar disciple (see page 17) themes combine with this archetype to form some interesting character concepts.
Skyfire Centurion
Skyfire centurions who are envoys or operatives are usually the captains of starships, while others quickly form a bond with their captains. Mystics with the healer connection often keep their bonded allies close enough to heal, while technomancers typically focus on magic hacks that help them deal more damage with weapons.
A character with the wild warden theme (see page 37) forms bonds with those he wants to help survive, while someone with the space pirate theme (see page 87) bonds with her crew.
Star Knight
As this archetype encompasses two separate organizations— the Hellknights and the Knights of Golarion—star knights come from all walks of life. Mechanics who choose this archetype usually use an exocortex to aid them in attacking the targets of their challenges. Solarians often manifest a solar weapon, as the heavy armor proficiency this archetype grants doesn’t work well with solar armor. A Hellknight with the bounty hunter theme is able to swiftly find those who break the law, while a Knight of Golarion with the dragonblood theme (see page 107) might pattern her behavior on a famed dragon from the lost planet.
Starfinder Data Jockey
Any class that receives Computers as a class skill benefits greatly from this archetype. Data jockey mystics who take the Akashic connection are able to retrieve information from all kinds of sources. Soldiers who focus on this archetype often specialize in the sharpshoot fighting style. A Starfinder data jockey who works for a corporation as an agent (see page 47) can almost always find the information she is seeking. A character with the icon theme who takes this archetype is most likely a famous hacker, known among his fans by his infosphere handle.
Steward Officer
Stewards focus on diplomatic solutions to problems, turning to violence only when needed, and any class can gain benefits from this archetype. Mystics often focus on the empathy connection, and technomancers usually specialize in divination spells (especially those that allow them to speak alien languages).
Soldiers who choose this archetype take the guard fighting style. Though it plays against type, a Steward officer with the outlaw or gladiator (see page 57) theme would make for an interesting roleplaying challenge. Alternatively, the deathtouched theme (see page 97) could give a Steward officer a touch of endurance when diplomatic options are no longer on the table.
I am strongly considering playing a Divine Champion now. They are sort of like paladins.

The Arcanamirium Sage basically lets you understand magic items, use spell gems better, and equip greater numbers of magical items.
Divine Champion gives you the effect of a ring of resistance for free, lets you do a pseudo-smite effect for a resolve point, and lets you cast a few spells from a single Mystic connection, at roughly the levels a Mystic would gain them.
Skyfire Centurion is all about teamwork with a single bonded ally, gaining bonuses to covering/harrying fire, sharing combat feats, and sharing each others' rolls for simultaneous attacks.
Star Knight gets heavy armor, a move+attack+intimidate action, and some choices of Order-specific options depending on what kind of knight you are.
Starfinder Data Jockey is a super-elite hacker and user of computers, able to scan enemies for weaknesses and letting you use your Computers skill instead of many other skills, so long as you have access to an infosphere.
Steward Officer gets a little martial training but mostly is a diplomat and negotiator, able to demand surrender from enemies.

Sorry, guys! This thread’s been quiet for so long that I haven’t been checking it that frequently. Yeah, I’ll stay a mechanic so my character is still ready to rock and roll. I’m picking up the new book’s pdf tonight and will have time to run through it all tomorrow. If there’s anything I want to change it’ll happen tomorrow, but they should just be minor things and fluff. The only major change I might make is transitioning to an operative, depending on how the fluff flows through me.
@Fighting Chicken: funny, when everyone was talking about re-writing characters I thought about making a futuristic gladiator. Didn’t think of making them an envoy, though! Interesting take on the class!
*EDIT* I lied, the book isn't available in pdf until the 28th, so I guess I'm not getting any changes!

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Ah, and I do believe I have decided on a name.
The military R&D project that my android soldier is a product of is -or was- called Reactive Nanotechnology. It is -or was- an attempt to develop adaptable and self-upgrading nanotech (going to be fluffing soldier gear boosts and fighting style techniques, as we as augmentations and feats and ability increases, so basically his whole leveling up thingy, as his nanites making him better, faster, stronger, smarter) for potential combat applications. My guy's body and its nanites were the fourth model or iteration and had the designation 4.0. So Reactive Nanotechnology 4.0, or RN-IV. Aaron Ivey.
This means his backstory needs a few changes probably, but nothing too severe I think. Either way I will post something... fluffy tomorrow or the day after to reflect that.

F. Castor |

I made a wee change in Aaron's crunch by taking the Toughness feat instead of Skill Synergy. I like to think an android as inherently tough who will learn through doing, at least in my case.
Plus, there is a high enough chance that his Soldier levels will only go up to 3 or 5 and the rest will be Operative levels.
Also, a question for further down the road (asking it because I would very much be interested in having Aaron's main mode of attacking and dealing damage to be his unarmed strikes; superior android strength and all that)...
I know that the AP, among other things, includes various new equipment and such, one of which is the following:
MAGIC ITEM (WORN) PRICE 315 BULK —
When you wear this ring, your teeth become long and sharp, giving you a powerful bite attack. You can choose to have your unarmed attacks deal lethal piercing damage, and if you are 3rd level or higher, you automatically gain a special version of the Weapon Specialization feat that adds double your level to the damage of these unarmed attacks (rather than adding your level).
Would it be possible to purchase or somehow acquire (once of appropriate level of course) the following variation, courtesy of one of Ravingdork's many many characters?
MAGIC ITEM (WORN) PRICE 315 BULK —
When you wear this ring, your arms become far denser, giving you a powerful slam attack. You can choose to have your unarmed attacks deal lethal bludgeoning damage, and if you are 3rd level or higher, you automatically gain a special version of the Weapon Specialization feat that adds double your level to the damage of these unarmed attacks (rather than adding your level).
Of course, other than unarmed strikes, there are always... heh... lighsabers. :-D There is always the option of going plasma sword as main and unarmed strike as secondary, melee-wise anyway.

All the inspiration I had for my Akashic mystic drained out of my head in the last few months and I've been beating my head against a wall for the last few days trying to come up with something I like as much. I finally settled on a Star Shaman Mystic who is a Divine Champion of Weydan. Their divine powers and connection to the deity leads them to believe they could be one of Weydan's many mortal avatars, and who knows - they just might be right.
Build, a bit more fluff, and post will be up as soon as I can write them.

Dej'arrick Voron |

So, OGGM, this is RavenVorron. I got the Pact Worlds book and I got really inspired to rebuild my character. I have the fluff an crunch in this character's profile if you want to go over it.
He's a Strix Technomancer instead of a Human Mechanic. I figured with Fighting Chicken playing a mechanic still this will let us see another class in action and I've always wanted to play a strix. So when I saw that they added them as a playable race in the Pact Worlds I jumped at the opportunity. I even chose disguise self as one of the spells he knows to explain why the person sitting on the shuttle is going to transform into a winged outlaw.
If not, that's fine, just thought I'd give it a shot.

Avery the Wanderer |

Crunch is pretty much done. :) Finally! Gonna do a post now.

F. Castor |

@castor:I can't answer any of your questions right at this minute, just because it's so new to me as well. We can definitely work things out as we learn.
No worries. Just thought I should ask them sooner or later and, since they popped in my head, it was sooner rather than later. :-)

That's fine, that requires a re-introduction?

Sorry, RV! I never got around to building my envoy so I decided to utilize the PC I've already got built.
If you want to still play the mechanic, I think our PCs will function differently enough that it wouldn't matter.
Speaking of, what is everyone's ship role going to be?
How will we handle 5 roles with four PCs?

Avery the Wanderer |

Captain is a very unimportant role. Shouldn't need anyone to play it.
Gunner, Pilot, Engineer, Science Officer is fine. And we can switch roles each turn to rotate responsibilities if needed, like if we suddenly have a need for extra gunners for a round, or if we have nothing for a science officer to do and we could use someone to stand in as captain to provide a bonus.
By the way, what roles are we each going to fill?
Avery would actually make a good pilot, since Star Shamans get their Channel Skill bonus to Piloting. If OGGM doesn't mind, I'd swap my ability scores around to give me a 16 in Dex and a 16 in Wis, and I'd swap out Mobility for Skill Synergy. I'd have a bonus of +7 at level 1 (jumping up to +9 at level 2). Not as high as a focused operative but there's not a lot else Mystics are good at in starship combat. I don't get Computers or Engineering, and my low BAB doesn't make me a great gunner.

Dej'arrick Voron |

Just a minor one, I'll post it up in a few minutes

No worries! I got the splat book and became inspired to make the character and I had a lot of free time yesterday.
As for role on the starship, I could probably fill the role of either science officer or engineer.

Avery the Wanderer |

You could create a GM alias specifically for this game and include links in your header?

F. Castor |

A couple of quick questions...
Does anyone mind if from level 2 onward I level up as a Mechanic with the Exocortex AI? Still combat focused, still melee focused, just with mechanic tricks and exocortex abilities instead of soldier bonus feats.
Secondly, provided the above idea is not causing any problems, mind if I change the Spacefarer theme to Themeless?
Yeah, I know, I am a little undecided but with Starfinder being relatively new I am still getting acquainted with the classes. Plus, I was trying out a Mechanic in another game, but that kinda died as soon as we got to level 2...

Avery the Wanderer |

Ready to forge ahead when you are! I'm excited for this game.
