Sweet! Greece is a place I've always wanted to see. Most of my travel is to Latin America, but I'm getting across the pond on occasion. Other than Athens, where would you recommend visiting, F. Castor?

Well, it really depends on what you are looking for. Thessaloniki is an option; kinda like Athens but smaller and it has its own charms. Mani (in Peloponnisos) has quite a few places to visit and its buildings in general are quite old and actually reminiscent of small castles in architecture, a bit austere too. There is Crete, quite the large island and with both seas and mountains to visit, or Lesvos, another large island. Honestly, too many places to mention.

If ever you do plan to visit Greece, send me a pm and I will try my best to suggest a destination or two depending on what you are after. And if you visit Athens in particular, look me up for a cup of coffee or something.

Male Human

Err... Poke...?

Waiting on you guys to finish character creation.

If it helps, I can set a deadline.

Male Human

Well, Tuesday I will be back to work and in effect enough time to actually make something, crunch at the very least.

I was mostly just wondering if Old Guy GM and The Morphling had decided on what their characters were going to be. The former seems to be going with a Human Soldier, I think?

Shadow Lodge

I haven't really made a decision yet but let me get on that. Things have calmed down now after the holidays.

Yeah, I'm back after being out of town all week. I posted from the airport on my way out - it didn't go through. I should be done in a day or two.

95% certain human soldier.

Male Human

Probably going with an Android Operative myself. I have a rough and crunchy outline in my head and I should be able to post something in the next few days.

Shadow Lodge

Pilot means I need to max out my dex so Operative seemed the obvious choice, though I have played one of those before. Piloting checks are the most crucial element of starship combat and getting them as high as possible is essential to success.

Though if you want to take the pilot role as our Operative I could take another role on our ship. I've been tossing around the idea of a Dwarven Exo-Cortex Mechanic, using the racial proficiency in advanced melee weapons to be a master of ranged and melee. Heavy armor, combat tracking, advanced melee and even heavy weapons at higher levels.

Male Human

Well, one could make a Dexterity-based Soldier as well and still fill the Pilot ship role, I think.

I am actually not maxing Dexterity myself. Still, between keeping the Pilot skill maxed and the Operative's Edge class feature my guy should be alright taking up that role. But as I have said, I am fine with any ship role other than Captain really.

Android Operative Concept:
The idea behind this guy is to basically play him as more of an Android than an Operative. Thus, he is -supposedly- stronger (Str 16, Skill Focus in Athletics), faster and more agile (Dex 14, Skill Focus in Acrobatics) and tougher [Toughness], though not necessarily healthier as he is artificial, than the average human, as well as intelligent (Int 14, skills, languages). Still, he is somewhat new to the whole adventuring and living outside thing (Wis 10) due to having lived mostly inside a building on Verces for decades (see fluff when posted). This fact along with his being a construct of sorts means he is not the most charismatic of fellows (Cha 8). Still, he has the capacity to learn and evolve (ability score increases and skills and feats via leveling up) thanks in no small degree to the adaptive nature of his nanotechnology (Operative's Edge, Operative Exploits, augmentations such as cybernetics and personal upgrades).

Ugh, so I was going through the classes again and found the 'Military Officer' in the envoy builds (pg 66 Core Rules). This has had the effect of throwing my well-made plans into a tizzy.

I am going with the envoy build. We will still be pretty combat effective with the mechanics and the operatives, and I won't be a slouch either. I think having a face-type will be of benefit to the group, plus envoys have a load of skills as well.

Oh, I love architecture. Mani sounds quite lovely, and the pictures I just googled delivered. I was not aware of this place before - thanks for that.

Some day, in the next few years, we hope to get there. We're probably sticking with Latin America right now (it is close, and plane rides will be less of an issue for the baby). But when we do get over, I'll definitely shoot you a PM!

Shadow Lodge

I adore Envoys, I'm glad we'll have one aboard.

So what do we have picked out so far? If we have no spellcasters I think I'm gonna play one of those instead of a second/third mechanic.

The fluff of a Star Shaman Mystic captivates me but I have to take a look at the other ones to really decide more based on crunch.

Ooh, I look forward to seeing how a high-Charisma Kara plays!

Agreed on the Envoy class: my playtest game was as a swashbuckling Ysoki duellist (complete with the mustache/whiskers). Had a blast.

Far as I can tell?

F. Castor: Arannis Crane, Male Android Operative
Fighting Chicken: Lolo Aeolo, Female Ysoki Mechanic (Drone)
Old Guy GM: Kara Savyn, Female Human Envoy
RavenVoron: Johnathan "Raven" Fletcher, Male Human Mechanic (Exocortex)

Shadow Lodge

Alright, that settles it. I'll be a technomancer or a mystic. Time to start looking at my options. :) I could even be a decent pilot myself if I decided to go Star Shaman...

Sounds like we make progress! Exciting. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Let me know if you want to tie backstories together or be a bunch of strangers meeting for first time (or a mixture thereof).

My usual preference for gaming is to run a bit of a solo scenario for a few posts, allow everyone to get into character, before bringing the group together - see here for a previous example of what I mean.

So I starting building Kara yesterday on the site. Was halfway through when I thought "I'd better save what I have". Hit 'Save Changes' and got a 'you went back too far' error. everything lost. I rage quit.

<sigh> will get back to it today or tomorrow.

Male Human

I feel your pain. I have had that happen to me too many times. I always copy-paste before saving nowadays.

Ouch! Been there too. Love this site but it has some serious bugs.

I generally do char-gen in a Word (or non-MS equivalent) document these days before copy-pasting into the alias.

The funny thing is I always ctrl-C before my game posts for just this reason. I didn't do it this time...of course.

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, I've lost too many posts. I obsessively copy/paste now.

I think a mixture thereof is always cool, though it will depend on the various backstories I guess.

And I readily admit I very much enjoyed the mini solo scenario, so I would definitely not mind if you go with it again. :-)

Quick Fluff:
Arannis (or R1-S as was his original designation), was created on Verces by a brilliant scientist, whose expertise was cybernetics and nanotechnology, about half a century ago. The scientist, a Dr. Josiah Crane, had previously lost his son and, like many a grieving father, he could not accept it. He managed to create an android in his late son's likeness (more or less, as there are certain features that differentiate this particular android from the average human despite its lack of glowing circuitry-like tattoos) and used his son's brain engrams to give his creation a personality. He rationalized it as simply wanting to spend some more time with his son and perhaps find closure. Unfortunately, although the android did possess some character and personality traits that resembled the scientist's dead child's own, it soon became apparent that it was a new being, its -or rather his- own person so to speak.

Dr. Crane did consider deactivating his creation, but quickly decided against it, feeling he did not have the right. In the end, he decided to allow the android, Arannis as he came to call him, to exist and in time he started to care for the artificial being, not unlike the way he had cared for his own son. He had created him after all.

The two lived together on Verces until the scientist finally passed due to old age. The man's death saddened the android, not least because he had been his only company ever since his creation. For Josiah had never allowed Arannis to leave the building they shared, but not out of simple possessiveness or anything like that. The scientist had used experimental military technology to create his son's facsimile based on adaptive nanites and not entirely tested cybernetic components, which meant that in theory at least Arannis was not simply able to learn as he accumulated experiences, but also that his body could adapt and change depending on those experiences. It was for that reason that Dr. Crane kept the android indoors.

In fact, even after his passing, Arannis remained within the building for a time, but eventually his curiosity did get the better of him. It was not like he was oblivious to the world outside his home's walls -Josiah had certainly taught him about various subjects and always ekpt him apprised of current events- but hearing about them and actually living them are two very different things. So one day Arannis Crane did in fact step out of that building. And now, five years later, has yet to step back in.

Been having technical issues, but I'm back online now.

Where are we at?

Male Human

Well, I think I am more or less finished. Probably some details left but that should be it. Fighting Chicken and RavenVoron I think are complete as well? Old Guy GM was supposed to work on Kara after some site problems and The Morphling was still deciding between a Mystic and a Technomancer. But since it has been a while since last they posted, I am not really sure other than the above summary.

Shadow Lodge

Been preoccupied with other things, this slipped my mind for a few days. I do think I've got a character picked out though. After originally dismissing the connection as uninteresting, I've been struck by a sudden interest in playing an Akashic Mystic. I'll get back to you with details once I've picked a race and put the character together.

Thanks for the update, Morphling! Have fun with the character-gen and we'll see you anon.

As I posted before, super busy at work. I'm trying gang, I'm trying!

No problems, real life comes first, always.

Just wanted to say: RIP Ursula LeGuin. I spent a large part of my childhood exploring the archipelago of Earthsea, and her thoughts on what magic actually was were formative.

Gang, it looks like the madness will end next week. I will get a character together so we can finally get going.

Sorry for the delay.

Shadow Lodge

Then I will stop dragging my heels and get my bit done too. :)

Good stuff!

Or we can wait until the new Starfinder AP is released...

Interesting! A 3 part, monthly AP, based it seems in the spirit of SW?

That sounds pretty cool, and I'm a big fan of the 3-release arc. I kind of wish PF would do something like that - 2 smaller releases a year to go with one large 6 month release.

Male Human

Sounds interesting, sure, but does that not also mean a lower character level by the end of it, unless each part is grander in scale than the 6-part AP's parts? I do recognize of course that PbPs do not often reach the higher levels, but I do also admit I like the prospect that they may get that chance if all goes well. It is the main reason actually why I avoid recruitments regarding one-shots and modules and the like.

Not to mention that this particular AP seems to be coming out at August.

Sure, it doesn't fit our timeline. Unless were still in character creation phase at that time :)

And yep, it likely means lower character level, as it looks like this AP starts at level 1. There's no reason that they have to start at level 1 with these though. I hope they create mid and high level 3 issue arcs, personally.

I have no idea what the character level progression will be like for these shorter modules. It can always be creatively tampered with, anyway :)

But yes, we can start when we're ready.

Done. I have to re-do the background. Kara's hard-as-nails Imperial beginnings won't work here. ;)

But I am ready for Starfinder mayhem.

Male Human

A heads up, but I seem to be randomly and rather often getting logged out, thus being unable to see notifications about new posts and such. Anybody else experiencing this?

There's quite a bit of trouble with the boards and notifications as of late.

OK, good news: I got a promotion. Bad news: I now have a metric ****-ton of extra work to do, plus travel.

I’m still around, but I won’t be able to post once a day. We’re looking like – at best – every other day. I’m happy to run this game, but please bear with me cos we’re going to be going slow-and-steady.

Male Human

Congratulations indeed! And as the guy above me has already said, no worries.

Congrats on the promotion! No worries!

Male Human

Hmm...

Would anyone mind if I change my guy from an operative to a soldier with a close combat focus? I think I would prefer something simpler and more straightforward.

Also, have you decided on ship roles? As far as I can tell, Kara will probably be the Captain, while the two mechanics with share the roles of Engineer and Science Officer between them? I could be mistaken of course.

Sounds fine to me, Castor!

Lolo can take any role, really.

Anyone watching this anymore? We seem to have lost Vosil/DM Darkness, most likely to that damnable thing called Life.

If there is any interest in getting this going, I could start it for us. Seems a shame to let it go, and I want to learn it anyway.

Who do we still have?

Though if you were to GM, OGGM, I may switch concepts to an envoy.

Male Human

Still around, yes.

So that leaves three? Am I seeing that right?

Castor
Lolo
Morphling

Let's do this then. Lolo, go ahead and switch if you want. I am going to say we need another player - anyone have someone in mind?
