JT:
how did you go from 34 BS to 45 and what's with the +10 stats for both in the brackets?
if you wanna use heavy weapons or melee I'd swap your fellowship and your strength
I like the backstory but you would know that you've been recruited or seconded to the inquisition. You may have been part of a squad that was used by inquisition during an operation or saw something you shouldn't have but were deemed more valuable alive than dead.
Nebdel: looks good have you thought about a backstory yet?
DM - ARC
JT if you're taking the gunmetal city_scintilla (hive world) alternate you lose the 'Accustomed to crowds' trait in exchange for:
speak language (metallican hive dialect)
Packing Iron: minus -5 penalty on all tests if you don't have a useable gun
Way of the Gun: +5 BS, pistol training (SP), a +5 bonus on Tech use tests related to projectile firearms.
Other than that you're good.
Everyone can you put a spoiler in your character profile listed as Experience showing all your expenditures for me.

Ok, I think character sheet is complete.
Please let me know if I left anything out or don't have it arranged the way you would like. Also, if you don't like th ebirth world thing, I wil change it.

So, it seems my block has gotten off easier than most. I did lose power yesterday from about 2-11, but that's insignificant compared to people in the city (New York City). The worst that's happened is a few pieces of siding that fell off my house and a tree that harmlessly fell a few houses down. I've heard and listened to far worse.
Anyway, this means I'm back. Power's on. (For now at least. I can't totally be sure and it may go off again later, though I'm seeing sunlight and from what I understand the storm is mostly past.)
I'll get back to posting on the double.

I am not all that familiar with the Dark Heresy universe.
How difficult would it be to find/buy/steal tools or explosives to blow the plug in the basement?
Vehicles?
Communication gear?
Will any of the other characters have serious problems with my character (hopefully with help) stealing stuff like that in order to complete the assigned mission?
I really don't know, for example, how literally law abiding the arbitrators are. Would they consider it acceptable to do things (like steal a vehicle or rig our flat to explode if invaded) while on mission to remove a potential threat to the Imperium?
Julian, I was seriously considering going the grenades and mad bomber route. =)

It was described this way earlier in the discussion thread.:
"In the first published roleplaying game, Dark Heresy, the gamemaster (GM) serves as an Inquisitor, while the players create characters that serve as acolytes of the Inquisition. As the title suggests, the setting is very dark and very violent. The Inquisition in Dark Heresy is a secretive religious organization that helps guard humankind from various forms of what it considers heresy: mutation, witchery, and Daemonic corruption.
Player characters (PCs) can choose from a wide variety of classes and backgrounds, but their purpose remains the same: upholding the order and fundamental values of the Inquisition. Some Dark Heresy players have jokingly described the characters in the setting as Catholic space Nazis who are the good guys only when compared to the other threats of the galaxy. This is a fairly accurate description, as player characters are expected to exterminate any aliens who have the audacity to not be human, any humans who defy the Imperial Creed, any people with psychic powers who have not been sanctioned by the Imperium, and anyone who has been corrupted by the forces of Chaos.
Investigation, intrigue, and bloody battles are all a part of an average Dark Heresy gaming session. While players may be used to more forgiving settings that try hard not to kill PCs, Dark Heresy is a very punishing game where characters often face grim fates and may end up horribly disfigured if not killed outright."
So, yeah, Grimdark. As far as law abiding goes, it always depends how far you go. We, merely by being associated with the inquisition, are on a higher path than the average Imperial citizen, no matter how much of lowly peons we might be in the organization of such things. We are given that kind of efficacy which, given our respective Interrogator's methods of organization, means we have the ability to decide how to handle our mission.
That said, my character personally, while he recognizes that now that he's part of a grander scheme he's going to have to work outside the rules, he won't abide by the unjustifiably cruel or unnecessarily callous. Stealing is okay, though he doesn't like it, but killing a family and stealing the van for a getaway won't fly with him.
Our flat I believe is pretty isolated, so he probably won't see much issue in crash and burn being our plan b. However, even though the setting in 40k is grimdarky as hell, you're not going to walk into your corner drugstore and buy high grade explosives, I'll tell you that much.

Ok, thanks Jacques, that is about how I was reading the setup. But I could sorta see the description of the arbites as kinda paladinish. Just wanted to make sure I was correct and not start an unnecessary conflict within the team.
My PC would probably not know, but I as an engineer do know that It is very difficult to concieve of an even moderately high tech society where an educated person could not access to the materials necessary to make explosives. High tech explosives are really only needed when you are space or delivery limited.
Making a bomb that could take down the house AND hide in a briefcase is tough. Making a bomb that can take down a house is really pretty easy. I have to assume the tech guy can read and understand the equivalent of high school senior text on chemistry and electronics if he doesn't already have the knowledge.
Now it is true that a high tech society can probably track down the people and trace where materials and shipments came from and went to both quickly and accurately. But if it came to that point our cover is probably already blown. Stealing the materials would probably only slow them down tracking us (and be cheaper).
I would prefer stealing them from other criminals, but we probably don't have that much time. since we are new to the area and have not yet made contacts.
Also, it might still be a better idea to just borrow (steal) some tools and make the plug into a disguised door. But I don't know if our tech guy actually has the knowledge to do that.
And I would assume communication devices should be relatively plentiful to aquire. From the local cops if nothing else. But those we would have to be much more careful about using and not keep them on hand for too long.
DM - ARC
Its possible to get explosives or grenades but all acquisitions require per the core rules:
A successful Inquiry test to locate said object (rarity and locale adjust difficulty)
A certain amount of time spent locating or having said object build or delivered
Enough thrones to purchase said item
In the hive city:
Microbead communicators (good for up to 1km) cost 20 thrones and can be found in 1d10 hours with a successful challenging (+0) roll
Grenades on the other hand cost 10 each can be found in one hour with a successful average (+10) roll
Nebdel Melfcane
S'ok, we can deal with that.
Modern western society really relies heavily on most members being decent socially responsible people. If ever a significant portion were to become actual sociopaths, it would fall apart.
Common prob of any sci-fi game. How do you simulate intelligent, educated, trained people that for some reason can't do all the things that could be done in todays world because it would wreck the whole game system?
So I won't push for stealing all the gear we might want. Though it might be a good thing I'm not playing the scum. ;)

Guys playing around with my character sheet. Does having a higher will power benefit me? For resisting corruption etc? I switched willpower and fellowship rather than srd and put a simple on str to get it up. So...
Str 34
W 36
Fel 28
Or
Str 41
W28
Fel 29
Keeping in mind that str is cheap to advance at 100 pts starting vs 500 pts starting for willpower which is better for this game?

Starting cash 80
If you will let me cash in laspistol 50
Sword 15
Shotgun 60
Total 205
Mono blade my Guard commission combat knife/bayonet for 40
Then spend 100 on a pistol like steel burner pistol 30m, semi only pen2, cap10, reliable but have it be a solid projectile weapon like a Colt 45 1911 for flavor.
50 for red dot sight unit
10 for silencer
5 for one frag grenade
Nebdel Melfcane
Ok, I'm still trying to figure out the system. But I think I'm about middle of the back for combat capability for our group. But I'm a bit more survivable then most. (Please tell me if I'm wrong.)
When we go out investigating, does the group want me searching for bad guys, playing potential victim to attract the bad guys, or backup to come help one of the other teams?

I may not be back until very late Monday or even Tuesday. Feel free to have Nebdel try anything even slightly reasonable. He's pretty easy to talk into into things, especially if worded as a challenge. =)
