On the road, Ka'etil will ride up to Bronwyn, "You too seem to have taken an interest in studying the Seti combat styles. I'd be honored to have you as my sparring partner. Truth be told, I'd wager that among us, we two are the only ones that could handle sparing with each other." Kae punches Bronwyn's arm, likely a little harder than he intended, but not enough for the Knight to be hurt. Kae notes a little blood on his knuckles and makes a mental note to be more careful about rough-housing with someone in armor.
The Half-elf's flushed features take a more somber look, although not much more sober. "Well, after Brett and Alaric's talk of titles, I've got to thinking. We both, you and I, we're like brothers in arms, not like you and Alaric are, but we're men of action, strength of body. We know combat, at least that's what I know, but mine is not a formal study. I fight based on instinct and insight..." worried that he may start rambling on.
"What I mean to say is that the post of Captain of the Guard or Watch, or some such post or another was mentioned. With your training, and experience, you are likely to be a figure that men like ourselves may rally around. I, on the other hand have a title of my own already, but it is not one that would be a great inspiration, at least not for the sort of society our sort seems to want to build. Anyway, what I mean to say is that we are the more martial men of our party, and you would likely be a better Captain." Kae anxiously hopes his words make sense, and seem reasonable, but he is clearly out of his element at the moment.

Kae looks away a moment, glancing around at all of the others, "I am no Priest, nor Councilor, and i haven't the slightest head for numbers. Sir Bronwyn is more of a leader than I, and with his formal training has great potential to command. I fight, my other talent being hunting, yet you are by far more a "Master of the Hunt" than I."
"I guess I'm just at a bit of a loss. You understand men, have a level of insight and understanding that eludes me. I would rather not be considered a servant, or underling, and be expected to wait for "My Betters" to speak." he says, inordinately bitter about the perceived insult delivered to him by Sylvath in the caves, not days ago, "but honestly, what sort of titled post is there for a settlement as small as the one we are to be founding for one such as myself?"
Kae sighs, feeling unsure of himself, still sipping at his mead, not sure exactly how much he's poured himself from the cast, over the course of this morning...

Ariarh Kane |

Conversation held some time between breakfast and hitting the road to Oleg's.
"Brett, some official posts are easier to discern or define than others. I have a fair idea of what I can provide to a community in regard to skills and knowledge, yet I seek to learn more and expand my knowledge and capabilities. So, I do not know what titled post would suit me best in the theorised city of Saravale." Ry sighs softly and her eyes take on a faraway look as if she is trying to fit in (find a place) amongst her other companions and future settlers.

Do the kobolds actually reply to what I asked them?
The others look at Sylvath – the seeming de facto leader of the group. He gives you an appraising look, and nods at your words.
”We are young of year as our race may know it; yet we are ancient in kind to thy own reckoning. Our customs stretch back centuries before thy birthing, and may yet differ from thy own. Yet thou have a true heart, and honorable bearing. It is good; for we mark such things, and respect any creature that carries inside a heart with courage and fortitude.”
”My brethren and I are trained from our youth to the ways of our people; and we do follow them well, for though the years have passed for others, by the aid of strong magics we slept long, and for us those passing centuries were like a flicker of the eye… We recall things long forgotten, for to it may seem that such things were but days ago. Yet all of this is to say we are, perhaps, different then what thy would expect. We shall then offer thee teaching in what thou would learn, yet we warn thee that it may be our ways are different from thy own. That our customs differ, and our methods seem strange to thee, and thy companions.”
”Tell me, therefore, what thy seek in truth, so that we may better aid thee in thy quest. Is it bits of lore, perhaps? Or dost thou seek more rigid application of said education? Would thy simply listen at the fire to tales long past, or would thy bend thy will to the teachings of our culture, and be a student to our ways – growing in strength and becoming more then thou art? For in truth, we shall not judge thee less if thy merely wish for lore; for that is a valuable thing.”
Sylvath says the last politely, with a generous way, as if he is talking to a person merely asking for directions to a location. Then his eyes narrow, and his tone changes. Now he is a creature addressing a person who may dabble in a thing beyond their understanding. His tone is still cordial, but it is hard, as if the words themselves are a warning to the weak, and a challenge to the valiant.
”But, if thy would become a student to a cause greater then thou art… If thou would turn to my brethren for teaching in our ways and our policies – to know our customs and what makes us who we really are… know thee this; in such study thou must commit to it completely. There can be no middle ground. A student who wishes to learn our ways must adhere to the code, must embrace it, must allow it become like a deep well from which he can draw strength and power from it in troubled times. If thy embark on such a journey without the fortitude to follow it through – then thy shall surely stumble in the beginnings of what thou attempts to create.”
He watches you for a moment.
”So then, oh man, called Bronwyn Winter – what is thy choice? Where does thy heart lay on this matter? Speak! And we four shall do our best as brethren to assist thee in thy cause.”

”Well, that be a right question to answer, lad… Right indeed! Now, ‘course, I don’t be saying we need titles, nothing o’ the sort! But they got’s a nice ring to ‘em, as it were. A lad comes into town and meets you and you say “I be so-and-so”… well, that be alright… But I thought something more grand would get his attention. On the other hand, ye run into the issue of being too grand, as it were. Fer example – what if a lad comes into town and ye be saying “I be Kae – Master and Commander of the Imperial Guard” and I say ”Gods Almighty! So, where be the very fine and impressive ‘Imperial Guard’, I’d like to see ‘em? and then ye say to me ”Oh, that be them six lads o’er there, lounging about with the leather armor and a few spears.” Then I’d say to ye something like Hmph! If that be yer elite guard, then the rest of yer town ain’t be worth not a tinker’s cuss!”… or something like that.”
He spits a stream of tobacco juice to the side, considering something.
”When folk get here, no doubt they’ll start wanting to meet people. Some folk’ll be attracted to other folk, and so forth. So, if ye set yerself as… Town Treasurer, fer example, no doubt ye’ll start getting, over time I ‘sepct, a stream of folk looking to meet ye to do business and such. Ye know, merchants, tradesmen, vendors and caravan types. If, on the other hand, ye set yerself up as “Town Sheriff”, as it were, no doubt ye’ll get lads looking to be a deputy, and others looking to ye to help them with troubles – but not like healing or helping them debate an issue, but going to sort out a matter in which a crop o’ bandits popped up and they need ye and some deputies to sort something out. A Captain o’ the Watch most likely do the same thing, only he be doing it inside the town, as it were… ye know, Sheriff in the country, Captain o' Watch in the city.”
”See, the reason I be making the suggestion be three parts. First, when folk get here, they’ll know who to go to fer certain things. They may go to Alaric lad if they need help with making magic boots – and pay him proper fer the service. Or they may go to miss Ariarh and ask her to bless their crops as their ‘taters aren’t growing as well as may be… or they may be asking ol’ Khrovin to be helping their sick son who done sliced his arm bad. But how they know who to go to, if they don’t know what we be good at? Why, we tell ‘em with our title, of course!”
”Next reason is, we all got’s our plans on what we want this place to end up as, and we all know who be as we start it… but the journey to get it there… well, that be a long ‘un. So, we need to best ask ourselves ”Self – what be the best thing I can offer to help this little group o' people grow from a village to a town, a town to a city, a city to a mess o’ cities” and so forth, eh? Fer example; take ol' Alaric now; he be a right smart lad, good with magic, and talks nice, too. So, one might say he could set himself up, being smart and all, and a good talker, as sort of a town mediator, telling folk the laws and helping them learn it, and making judgments on them that bust the laws. That’d make him like a judge, or a mayor, maybe… Or – Alaric may say ”Meh, all that be a lot of jawing and I’d rather be doing something else” and he might got’s a taste fer magic more, and say, fer example ”Come to me, one and all – your local expert on all things magic!” Either way be fine, but as Alaric goes along and gets more strong, he be attracting all sorts of folk to him. If all along he wants to be a lord later, then it be no sense to be setting himself up as a magic man, as all the folk who done come to him be just wizards and sorcerers and such. Good lads, true enough, I’ll warrant – but at the drop o’ the hat, Alaric’ll need more then just magic folk. He’ll need lads who want to guard his back, and help with ledgers, and… oh… I dunno… lordly stuff and all. Wizard folk can do that, I reckon, but if he starts off by declaring what he wants now, and going from there… why, by the time he gets there, he’ll be surrounded by them that make it happen. If he says “I want to be a blacksmith” he may get the finest smiths around him, but at the end of the day, that ain’t really be what he after, and so I think it be a bad plan to say he want blacksmith… But when he figure it out; hell, when any o’ us figure it out… then we don’t be worrying on it none because then we got’s a goal.”
”Now, the last point be the one that be sensible, but in a round-a-bout way, as it were; namely, it be sounding good. See, if ye be the Sheriff and Bronwyn be the Captain of the Watch, as it were… that sounds finer to new folk then ”Oh, that lad be the one that hashes things out outside town, the other hashes things out inside the town.” See what I mean? There be no… no poetry in that line o’ thinking. Titles sound good to the ear, as it were, and then people be happy and like what they hear and go from there. Jumble o’ words that strung together like a badly laid fence make people say "Bah, if these folk can’t even come up with a fine name, how they come up with a half-decent village?” If ye catch the meaning, eh?”
Brett ends the last cheerily, then spits again, and turns a casual look to Ka’etil, who may notice a slight sardonic gleam in his eye. If he listens closer, he can hear the good Brett mutter almost to himself…
”How’s that fer letting me talk a piece, eh?”
By the way, Kae, it seems you are placing yourself “on the move”. The party hasn’t formally declared if/what they are moving at this time. For now, we’ll keep that action/conversation, but please allow the party to add what they will take at this time before we move too far from camp… Thanks!

Brett nods sagely at this, giving it some thought.
”Well, Ry lass, it be like I tried saying to good ol’ Kae, there… though watch it if he talks to ye, he barely lets ye get a word in edgewise! But don’t worry, I be saying it to ye, too. The way I see it, a title be the thing that draw folk to ye… Whatever ye call yerself will attract folk of like mind. Over time, they be bringing things to help ye, and come to ye fer personal adventure, or to assist ye, if they have a mind. So, if ye say ”I be Ariarh the Good – Druid of the Sacred Grove”, fer example, nay doubt ye’ll get them to ye that like that sort o’ thing. So, really, it’s all up to ye what ye call yerself – just keep in mind that title gives ye two main things: respect from them in town, and also it be drawing to ye them that likes what ye do. If ye want to be a Druid-lass who tends to gardens, well, ye can do that. No doubt ye’ll be meeting with other druid folk, farmers, maybe some shaman types, even an alchemist or two, looking for herbs you can grow fer potions and all..."
"If ye be a Druid-lass of the dark and wild forests... Well, ye can most likely draw to yerself hunters, barbarian lords looking for protection, maybe even ranger types, as it were..."
"But, if ye be a Druid-lass who turns her way to the sea and sky… well, ye may even rub shoulders with priests o’ such things – and mayhap wizards and sorcerers who seek the stars for signs and prophecy. Not saying the other types don't go to ye, as ye name yerself different... But a name says something about who ye be; a name be the thing ye draw yer power from; yer strength, and it be the flag that rally folk to yer cause, as it were... Name yerself as ye like, and it'll draw them to ye that like what ye name!"
"Course, in the end the name be also just the kind o’ thing ye be liking…. Whatever ye want to do be fine, just think that the title ye give yerself will attract folk to ye of like mind, that’s all I be trying to say,” he adds with a grin.
”Whew! That went much faster this time without Kae and all his words,” Brett adds, his grin widening as he turns and gives Ka’etil a laugh and a wink at his own jest.

Proud of his percieved recovery, he more casually adds, "And I'm sure you'll take all those who live here under your nurturing wing, Advocating for the people and their practical to our dear idealist making shoes with his head up in the clouds. I'm sure i'd appreciate knowing you'd be there and have my best interests at heart, as a common man, were I common..."

Any party member who is around us at the time of conversation, could/would be privy to Ry's reply.
"You have given me many and interesting ideas in regard to what primary jurisdiction of druidism I would practice within and the kind of folk who would then be drawn to me, my ideals and practices. However, Brett, in all honesty, I would not single out a group and only cater to or interact with them predominantly. That sounds too singular, too remote." Ry pauses to collect her thoughts before continuing. "I would rather be a druid who caters to any in need. From a sacred grove, to signs and prophecies, potion brewing, herb gardens, forests and clean waterways, to name the few you have mentioned. Instead of a title such as Ariarh the Good, I would rather be known as Ariarh the Just, if a cognomen is essential. I would seek to treat and interact with a fair and equitable hand with the hope of earning the trust of the greater community. I still cannot tell you precisely what my title will be in this growing township at this point. I shall think some more on it. I do want to thank you for your counsel in this matter." Ry smiles at the holbyt.

"Hmm.... yeaaahhhh," Brett says slowly.
"That be very good, Ry lass... but it be sounding like ye picked a name fer yerself, not a... er... title, as were. I mean to say, when people meet ye with that, they may think ye be a Judge, or Magistrate. When a lad or lass comes to town, and they meet ye, and ye say "G'day, mate! I be Ariarh lass the Just!" or some such... they may be saying "The 'Just' what?" See what I be saying? If, on the other hand, ye be saying "I be Ry lass Naturalist and Herbalist" or "Doctor Ariarh; Chief Surgeon of the Saraville Hospice"... assuming o' course we still name the town that... Well, then people may be answering ye "Oh! Chief Herbalist, eh? Why, I got's roots and herbs to buy, and maybe we can have a fine jaw on new tonics and potions and new alchemical brews and such". If ye be saying Chief Surgeon, then they might be saying to ye "Oh! Chief Surgeon; why, I got's hosts of stuff I need to get help fer; me sick mother, and me sick uncle, and I got's some warriors who need tending too... but don't worry, we all be in yer debt as needed!"
"See what I be meaning? Everyone be comming to the person that ye be - and they bringning their own range o' problems, solutions, and suggestions fer ye, once ye set up shop, as it were. It just depends on the kind of shop ye want to set up."
Brett says the last in a matter of fact voice, and spits another stream of his quid to the leeward, giving Ariarh a happy smile.

"My spirit lends itself to nurture. Not so much from a "motherly" aspect but because I have a respect for life and care what happens and would see a positive outcome. Alaric is the idealist of the group and I admire him for seeing a world different and better than the current one in which we reside. I can provide him with a more grounded, practical attitude and aspect. I could be a good bridge between Alaric and his people but I do believe he will be quite a hands-on ruler and be genuinely liked by his people. And you, Kae, are not common. I would rarely use that word in conjunction to any creature, it just doesn't sit right with me. "

Hey everyone. Not sure which convo's are private and which are ones we can theoretically jump in. Would like to jump into Kae and Ry's if it's in the open.
Anyone is privy to the conversations Ry is having with Brett and Kae, if they are around. So, please go ahead. :)

To all...
Remember, gang, we're going to have to back to Oleg's soon.
What do you want to bring at this time, so we can saddle up, move out, and get this party started.
So far, I am looking for everyone to post a quick "list" of the following:
1. What title/direction your character will go in.
2. What gear/equipment you will bring to Oleg's, other then what is on your sheet.
Thanks!
ps Waiph, Ry, and Brett are on Skype if anyone wants to chat...

Brett Rowan |

To Dain GM
1. As we've had extensive discussions on where my character is planning on going, wouldn't it be a redundancy at this point to say it now?
2. I will be bringing all my gear, as you may know. I will also be bringing two other horses.
1. Horse will have 10 Elk skins over it, as well as slung over it 4 trapper kits (weight 20 lbs each)
2. The other horse will have slung over it 1 sack with 100 GP, 1 sack with 100 SP and 50 lbs or grain, 50 lbs of dried rations for the folks at home.
By the way, I love how you're running the game - but I should add; the game seems pretty easy. Can you toss in harder enemies and more puzzles? Also, is there any way you can post longer posts? So far, though they are masterfully written, they are (in my humble opinion) far too brief and abreviated.

1. Very well... You do not have to tell me; frankly, we're all getting a little sick of you tooting your own horn anyway on how "special and unique" your character is... so, yeah; no need to repeat it now.
2. Good to know on the gear. That's totally fine.
Don't worry, the challenges for book 2 are much more complex and deadly... so that will be easily taken care of. Also, trying to butter me up shan't work... Your comments on my writing? Pshaw! As if this matters from a guy who spells "abbreviated" with only one "b". Duh!

Alaric Winter |

Thanks Ry! :-)
Alaric perks up when he hears Kae mention the word Advocate. I think that would be perfect for you Ry. I have never met anyone with half the compassion you have for the people and creatures of the land. I also think that the people would feel more comfortable knowing that there was a person who's responsibility it was as their job was to make sure their voices were heard. An Advocate for the people. Kae, I think that is a great suggestion. What do you think Ry?

"I do like the notion of advocating. Now, I need to come up with a clever title to go along with that idea and we're all set." Ry winks at Alaric, jokingly, making a point of something Brett had mentioned earlier about titles and her lack of one.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

"Thank you Alaric. That was rather clever of me." Kae smiles to himself for his cleverness, then focusing to apply it to himself. "Well, I'm not much for traditional soldiering, but I am a fighter, by trade. I was a mercenary for a while, marketed myself as a Tracker of sorts as well." Kae puzzles for a few moments. "What's that got anything to do with anything relevant to anything?"
Kae's not entirely sober at the moment. he helped himself to a drink in the orning, then likely another, and he doesn't drink. Ever. So he's a bit silly at the moment.

Brett Rowan |

"Well what's your title Brett?" Kae asks. "You've been healer, hunter, Trap-master... Or will you be Brett, Lord Chef of Saravale? You do make a damn fine meal."
"Well, I do make a damn fine meal... Hmm... but my title? Well, I be thinking mayhap.." Brett pauses, thinking a bit, as he loads the horses.
"Well... "Master and Commander" sounds fair; but then again... Oh! "Captain, my Captain"... that got a nice ring to it, too. One day maybe... but now?"
"Well, I got's me own vision on what's what, I reckon. Me first plan was that ye all choose what ye want to do, then I can come on and pick up the other pieces, as were. Being that I reckoned that I figured ye'd all have yer hearts set on things particular, and I don't want to be stealing none's thunder, as were..."
"But, as it were... Well, why not just form a council? Then ye all got equal say, equal vote, and each council member be in charge o' stuff... So ye can be saying just plain "I be Council Member so-and-so..." as were. And, ye each can just be taking on specialities, until ye get things settled."
"Hell, this land be all that got's our name on the charter, eh? Well, then we all got fair equal say in what's what. So, as ye all not sure on what's what, ye make a council, we all be members on it, we all vote on particular topics. We get one lad or lass on a monthly, bi-monthly, yearly or phase to host meetings, and sort o' organize things. And everyone on the council have a specialty - something fancy to make things neat as neat; poetic as were. So, ye could have "Councilman: Bartleby Brett Rowan - Adjunct to the Baker's Guild; Warden of the River Crossings; Representative of the Brevoyian Ducal House Esserian; Aldori Sword lord; President of the N.M.A (that be "National Musket Association" to any who be asking) and faithful follower of Apsu the Divine."
"And that be one example of a name o' a Council member, namely me, if fully asked. Otherwise I be known as just "Council Member Rowan", as were, which sounds nice enough, I reckon, to a common folk's ear. And if they be wanting to know what I do, I can just tell them."
Brett let's out a slightly frustrated sigh.
"Ye know... I thought it would be easy... so easy... everyone knows what they want, eh? They can just say how they get there... Mayor Alaric, Doctor Ariarh, Marshal Bronwyn, Father Khrovin, Sheriff Ka'etil... how did this become so bloody difficult," he mutters to himself, pulling himself into the saddle "But I reckon that "Council Member" can do in a pinch, until anyone figure out what they want to do fully..." he says with a shake of his head.

Alaric Winter |

What about Sheriff or Constable? We are going to need someone to take the responsibility to root out any threats to the people and bring the occasional outlaw to justice. How does that sound? Did you all have any suggestions for me? A clear system of organization will help immensely with getting us started. Perhaps Governor? Mayor? Though I have to admit that one doesn't sit very well with me. My father's city had a mayor and he was horrible. Nor do they inspire at all as well. We each need to have positions and titles not only to denote responsibility but also to show ideals that we are working towards. Hopefully you have better ideas than mine at this point. Alaric says with a laugh.

Ariarh Kane |

1. Ambassador (Ariarh) Kane of Saravale
2. She has her horse, Tal, and is leading a spare horse she picked up from the last bandit camp. Food rations back at Oleg's may be dwindling at this time, so Ariarh will take with her 20 lbs of flour, 10 lbs of salt, 3 jars of honey (which she has wrapped securely in cloth so they do not break on the ride) and 1 healer's kit. She places the flour, salt, honey and healer's kit in bags and secures/straps them across the saddle of her spare horse. She will return to Oleg's with all the gear she started off with.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

Kae was looking off in another direction, distracted by minor conjurations he started making for a moment prestidigitation so he's not entirely sure who Alaric was suggesting the title to. "Constable... Hmmm, not a fan of the aord Constible, don't roll off the tongue... Constable Ka'etil? Sheriff sounds better, although... Sheriff Brett... Sheriff Rowan... Sheriff Bartelby! Something about Sheriff Bartelby calls to mind "Lawman" for some reason. Hmm, maybe I need a Right and Proper surname. Huh."
Then a Flash of Inspiration "I'm sure there are going to be some who are not up for Professional Soldering, and being part of the Guard, or eventual Army. I'd be suited to muster a militia as well as preside over the Huntsmen. Hunters, Loggers, Miners, even Farmers, people who are hardened by labor, and are already skilled at using weapons, only as tools. Some practice, and we have a militia that can rise up out of the woodwork at a moment's notice."
Kae beams with pride, "I am Ka'etil, Master of the Hunt, Captain of the Militia." Then he pauses, and considers, "Would that work out to Huntsman Ka'etil of the Militia, or Captian Ka'etil of the Hunt? Well, i liek the idea of being called the Huntsman..."

Alaric Winter |

Council member? That's soooooo boring! lol
I definitely think a council is the best way for us to proceed in governance but separate titles will help the people go to the right person at need. Here would be my suggestions. Sheriff Ka'etil Malas'rae, Advocate Ariarh Kane, Governor Alaric Winter, Commander Bronwyn Winter, Elder Khrovin (I saw thats what priests of Erastil are usually called when part of a community but I could definitely see you coming up with something better), Trademaster Rowan. What do you think?

Brett Rowan |

"Well, it all be just suggestions, lad - me chief plan were to be giving us title to both be inspiring folk and also to show new folk who to go to fer what course. Ye got yer ideas fair; but I ain't sure on the other'n folk at this time. Sheriff be good; but I heard they mainly go on tracking missions in the wild looking fer bloody bandits who rob folk - well, some sheriff's do, at any rate. Whoever be that sort most likely attract warriors, soldiers, trackers, rangers - that sort I reckon."
Brett eyes Alaric appraisingly.
"Ye be wanting to something more... what be the word... Ah! Cosmopolitan, as were... I dunno - attracting warriors, dignataries, diplomats - hmm... Well, if ye be the chief person around here, what about "The Chief"... Then again, that don't sounding as noble... Hmmm... What about "Squire Alaric?" that be what the lads up at Oleg be naming ye... and it has a certain sound o' nobility to it. I don't want to say what to do... But I think ye need something noble-like... Squire Alaric - Lord Alaric, something like that... After all, it be fair and true, and be pretty inspirational, as may be. What do ye think on the matter?" Brett asks his old friend, offering Alaric an apple from his pouch.

Alaric Winter |

I do like Huntsman as a title for you Kae. I think that fits well. In addition to overseeing trappers and the like, the other side of that title could be the Hunts-man, the person you go to when you need to bring someone to justice.
I don't know about Chief. I think that almost seems a bit too...well I just don't think that fits me. Between Mayor and Chief I would go with Mayor and put my past feelings aside if you think Governor is not a suitable title.
EDIT: Alaric takes the apple with a nod of thanks. Perhaps you are right and something simple would not only give a sense of familiarity but also an ease of use. Squire I do not believe suits as that is if I am not mistaken what one calls a knight in training. Perhaps simply Lord Alaric will work if that is amenable.

1. Captian of the Militia: Ka'etil Master of the Hunt
2. Kae loads up 6 Trapper's Kits, and 5 pelts onto a War-Horse, and loads 2 more Kits and a 3 Bear Pelts onto Konur, Seeing if he can find that still had a head, wrapping one around himself as a cape, hoping to get a cool looking cloak.

"Lord it be, then. Ye've got not only the heart for it, but it be seeming ye got mandate fer it too... as the ring on yer finger be testament to it... Seems the lands choose ye to govern it, as it were, now... And if any contest it, ye can say that ye got word of native sons and daughters o' this land - namely the kobolds and yer lass there... they be native folk that be here since time out o' mine... Even if it weren't fer charter, I reckon if they be choosing our folk to lead, this place... it be their land first, anyhow, and that they be still alive mayhap making their land still... but if that be true, then it be sounding like they picked ye to be leading it... so ye got choice of people that lived here first; document of the Charter to back ye; and that be good enough all around," Brett adds, munching the apple around the quid.
"Nay disrespect meant earlier, but I heard tell that "Squire" be some form of noble that be; not just knight's errand boy... but ye're right, it don't sound as fine as "Lord Alaric", which sounds high and propper; though I reckon either "Squire" OR "Lord" both stomp the dung clean out o' the title "Mayor"... which, as I think on it, sounds nay good at all."
"Hell, as ye mention it, when I be thinking o' word o' mayor, well, I be getting image in me head of some fat lad sitting at a pie eating contest. Got mutton-chop whiskers and some ill fitting suit that looks a wee bit too snug... Knew a mayor like that when I was younger... he got's nay dignity at all... what were his name be? Ah yes... Mayor McCheyse, as were... he were a right bleeder, he was," he says with a woeful shake of his head at the recollection of this country bumpkin of a mayor.

Kae; there are a total of 10 Trappers kit only. All ten can be taken, as Brett grabbed four, and you seemed to have taken 6. However; you mentioned 2 additional kits...
what type where they? Remember; there were several other types. They included leech, healing, syptom kits, and climbers kits. Just curious...

Dain GM |

1. Lord Alaric Winter of Saravale
2. Alaric is just taking his normal gear plus some of the coin. 200 platinum pieces. just in case.
Quick question; were you keeping these coins as your "cut" to be spent later? Or were you keeping them as part of the general party "loot" and just had them for safety sake?

"Lord Alaric Winter of Saravale has a good ring to it, my friend."

"I was thinking of the title 'Ambassador' for myself at this time. It will give people a sense of what I am about. What do you think of Ambassador Kane?" Ry looks about her companions wanting to hear their opinion.
"That be a damn fine title, and it be suiting ye fine. Nay doubt ye'll get a pestle o' all types o' customers flocking to ye - folk from any race, religions, or order... that be good fer ye to mingle with different type o' folk, by-the-by..."
"And Ambassador got a good ring to it; right and good, as were... It reminds me o' a lass I met out o' Absalom... She was a lot like ye... and she were Ambassador, too... well, let's just say that's what her title be," Brett adds with a wink.
"Hmm... right fine all around with most stuff; knew about art, philosophy, even some religiousity, as were... good even with a knife and bow; and tough, too... what be her name? Ah, I recall! Her name were Inara. Aye, and a fine Ambassador she were," he says with a happy nod.

Love me some Firefly. ;) Damn shame the show was cancelled.

Ariarh Kane |

Redoing this. Please accept this one as my true answer since time ran out and I was unable to edit the previous answer posting.
1. Ambassador (Ariarh) Kane of Saravale
2. She has her horse, Tal, and is leading a spare horse she picked up at the last bandit camp. She will take one of the healer's kits and one month's worth of exotic rations (spices, honey (wrapped so the jar/s won't break) and tobacco) and places them in the saddlebags on her extra horse to take back to Oleg's. Ariarh also loads/straps some firewood on the spare horse for their use on the ride (enough for about a 2 to 3 day ride). She will return to Oleg's with all the gear she started with and the remainder of her trail rations.

FYI To help those of you with a frame of reference...
With the snowy ground being difficult terrain, you can travel at four miles an hour.
You can travel 8 hours a day.
That means after a day, you've traveled 32 miles...
If the distance to the Stag Lord is 72 miles from Oleg's, you will arrive at Oleg's in a little over 2 days (roughly 2.5 days).
This should get you to Oleg's roughly on the 11th, providing you guys leave today.
Khrovin/Bronwyn
What are you bringing, and what titles do you take? Let me know.. you'll be back at Oleg's soon... provided you don't run into any... Imperial Entanglements...
Heh, a Star Wars reference and a Spellcaster reference in one!
When you get back to Oleg's you can meet people; get news, and and go from there.
To all
Any last minute instructions for kobolds before you go?
Alaric
What were you planning on doing with your dragon lady?

Ariarh Kane |

Ariarh would ask the kobolds if they could take a careful look throughout the fortress and catalogue any/all repair work that may be required to strengthen the fortifications. (When the party returns then they all could look at starting the work or at least preparing the resources, labor etc.)
(In the above cataloguing, it would make sense to note down any structural weaknesses they may discover in the building and any hidden passageways/tunnels in and out. Possibly a sketch or map of the entire fortress layout.)
She would also ask the kobolds if they required any items brought back for their use from Oleg's (that is to say, if he has said items in stock).

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

Now that i think about it, Kae should bring along ALL THE KITS!!!
No, in all seriousness, tho, Kae brings along 4 of the Trapper's Kits, leaving two at the Fortress, Brings along one Climbers kit and one Healer's kit, leaving one of each in case we have use for them there
He loads up on Bear Pelts.
There's a trapper's Kit on Konur, and 3 pelts, and he's using one as a cloak.
3 Trapper's kits, and the Climber's Kit is on a pack horse along with 10 more Bear pelts.
Are there any Bear Pelts that have Bear anatomy still, like a Head, or claws or something, cause he'd TOTALLY want to get that made into a cloak, especially considering his state in the morning...
He's also bringing along normal gear, re-filling arrows and oil, as oil was about out
regarding the seti
Ka'etil suggests that the Seti may be best served re-building the gate door as soon as possible, to provide a greater measure of safety for themselves as the party is likely to be out for at least a week...
He agrees with Ry's assessment of scoping out the whole castle, Mapping it out so new-comers will be able to be directed easily toward where they should go. We can assist in any repairs they cannot take care of as soon as we return.

Sir Bronwyn |

I believe I can use these next winter months to train anyone in Oleg's post to defend himself and fight enemies if need be. Let us not forget the ustalavians answered to their lord, and he hasn't shown his face yet. It may very well be that tomorrow, next week or three months from now, we could all be facing marshalled forces across a battlefield. If milord Winter allows, I'd like to take every able-handed man and woman on the post and drill into them at least some fighting spirit and techniques.
1. Bronwyn Winter, Commander of Swords (representing domain over armed forces), Master of Horse (officer in charge of the care and feeding of horses and management of the stables) and Knight-Captain (an old Taldor title for the knight commander of a legion of knights or footmen).
2. I'll round up the last free warhorse and saddle it with a cargo saddle. In it I'll carry ten of the winter clothings (to provide for the ones I brought here), the three bottles of cheap wine, 1 longbow (with 50 arrows), well-made pipe and 4 lbs of tobacco (if Brett allows), the "Siege" game board (awesome for cold winter nights) and the Draconic War Manual. Bronwyn will carry one scimitar as a back-up weapon (I've seen to be misplacing my weapon a lot).
Did Khrovin get that masterwork Breastplate? Is a broadsword a bastard sword or a greatsword?

Khrovin |

I will be swapping out my own breastplate armour for the masterwork breastplate if there are no objections to that course of action. Other than that, its a case of restocking the 5 or 6 arrows I am missing, and grabbing about a weeks worth of food. The sword I gained from Kae I believe to be a masterwork great sword. I had an idea to get the trappers kits etc, but they are looked after, and if Ry has already grabbed the potions then again, Khrovin will cede them to her. Channel energy and my own sacred hands do a pretty decent job of keeping you all alive so far
To Ariarh
Do not get my wrong, I do not wish for you to hold your tongue at all. Your insight into a situation might be the very one that could avert disaster. I am most likely the one at fault in this situation for it was I who stated that we are butting heads in the manner that we do. For me it was simply a case of stating that whilst we have very different opinions, I will always listen to your insight. Hence why I will be at your side on the journey to Oleg's, and if you allow it, far beyond that.
To all.
The title of Father Khrovin works well enough for me, and whilst I am more than content to take the majority of the burden for the religious direction of these lands, I know that I would only feel comfortable doing that in conjunction with Ry. If there is ever a hospital made in our lands, then I believe my particular skill set, in conjunction with Ry's would also leave us to be perhaps the best to look after the healing of the sick and wounded. However, we must also be careful to not leave ourselves too stretched out. Bah, these are discussions that we can have over the many hours that we will while away as the winter snows come and go. For now, I will happily tend to us and any of those that ally ourselves to us and our cause.
Will work out spells soonish, but until I post otherwise, assume the previous spells are simply re prepared.

Ariarh Kane |

Khro, you may have missed one of the previous postings made a few days ago, but Ry ceded the potion/s to Khro. So he will have them. :)
To Khrovin:
Softly spoken, "I would be honoured to have you ride beside me to Oleg's. It will give us an opportunity to speak and learn more about each other. If you wish to hear my insight during the course of this adventure, then I will give it in a mindful manner. I was never trying to over-rule your own thoughts and choices, Khro, for I respect you."
After hearing Khro speak of her assistance in certain matters of health and healing (and even religious direction), "Of course I will readily assist you in any matter you see fit, Khro. You may count on it."
To Alaric:
Looking tenderly upon Anuk-Su Seti, "Alaric, Anuk-Su retaining her human form is most wise. But my friend, what story shall you give those folk back at Oleg's as to the reason of her presence among us? I would see that each of us is familiar with the story you have prepared so none are caught out and thus unduly endangering the life of Anuk-Su."

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

"And remember, it was Dasha that sent us this way, and Dasha that sent us this way, or the spirit inside Dasha, however that works, so she and the Knights that came with us are likely to have said something about what's happened. No Idea what that would be, but we should stick as closely to the truth as we can." he adds after Ariarh speaks of Anuk-su.
"Sir Bronwyn, I'd like to join you in testing the mettle of any able bodied men, and we can determine then whether or not they are more suited toward Proper military life. That way you and I can focus on those fighters that are best suited to our temperaments and styles, and they to ours." Kae suggests to Bronwyn. "Divide them up into the Guard and Standing Army, and the Militia-men. Hopefully there will be enough for that, eh?"

Ariarh Kane |

Turning to address Kae's point, "Kae, from what I know of Dasha and Drake and from my brief dealings with the Ustalavian Knights, I would hazard a guess that they would have been conservative in their disclosures until we returned. Dasha, at the best of times, keeps to herself and barely says a word unless spoken to. I would think they may have been more forthcoming with those they hold in trust, say Oleg and Svetlana, and some of the other travellers. I simply think we should be as discreet, at first, until we can gauge the current situation at Oleg's. Better to be safe than sorry. We can share the whole true story once we know more."

Ariarh Kane |

I believe the truth will suffice when we return, or at least a portion of it. She is a child we found during our battles with the stag lord and his allies. She was a prisoner and we freed her and I have taken her as my ward.
Please forgive the shortness posting from my phone.
"Aye, Alaric. That is as much as I would have admitted to at first. And, anyhow, I had a feeling that would be your answer. I was just checking; you know how I like to be prepared." Ry gives her sorcerer friend and his ward a gentle smile.
