DMoogle's War For The Crown

Game Master Michael MacComb

Just a place to host my homegames first journey online.

This is going going to be where you post ideas/plans for character generation.

So, as this is going to be at 20 point buy, don't be an idiot. I'm not going to pull punches on this one if you decide to go with a 10 con. Having said that, I trust you know what you are doing, so I want to see some background stuff, traits, etc. If you want your background to be secret, then PM me, and we can work on that

Also, as we are going to be using forum names, give me a shout out who you actually are in a PM.

Is this still open? And we will be using the forums to roleplay on?

Recruiting unfortunately took place IRL. This is going to be a test bed for my in-person players, as we're a little short in the weeks to be running more then one in person game at a time.

Ah okay. Well good luck!

Hello, I'm one of the recruited people. I've got a mostly complete character background, minus possible changes due to friendships and interactions with the other PCs, so I'll post it here for brainstorming. Also let me know if anything needs changing or clarification.

Spoiler:
Minentte "Minty" Nephee was born in provincial Taldor to a reasonably well-off farming family. She permanently lost her ability to speak due to a damaging throat infection when she was a child; because of a slow ride through decaying roads and a lack of skilled healers in her region, the infection nearly killed her and recovery took over a month. Her family blamed the Taldane government for her suffering, taking the ordeal as a clear sign of their once great lands sliding ever onward into neglect and ruin, but they knew better than to make these claims far from the dinner table.

Years later, with enough hands at the farm already, Minentte dedicated her young adulthood to keeping rural Taldor safe and joined the militia of a nearby community, patrolling the town and nearby roads and working as a labourer on her off time. After two years, her skill with weapons and dedication to her duty were seen as a cut above, and her superior sent a letter of recommendation to Oppara, suggesting that she become a full-time constable or a member of one of Taldor's standing armies. She was invited to join the Lion Academy and became a constable in Oppara not long after.

Minentte took advantage of her new urban life in many ways. She took classes in Varisian sign language, becoming fluent within a couple of years. She collected and practiced with new weapons to the point that vendors would ask if she was an adventurer. She also began to make friends with those who shared her family's reformist attitudes. Beginning within the constabulary, Minentte slowly became more and more involved with groups that took action against blatant abuses within Taldor's establishment. She would sit in at secret meetings that often involved combinations of citizens, minor nobles, soldiers, and criminals. When the work was discreet and the cause was good, she even helped them execute their plans. This has earned her a few friends in unusual places for one of her station. While she remains a constable and enjoys the difference she makes for the people of Taldor while on the job, a greater cause could persuade her to seek an early resignation.

And here's a link to her character sheet.

Alchemist here. I'll PM you details when I've got it all written down, so we can workshop before I post it

hi I'm one of the recruits and i got a background squared away, i think

Spoiler:
I’ll be playing a tiefling bard named Harm, the older twin to Harmony, and keytarist in their band In Harm’s Way. Practically joined at the hip, the two of them were born in Cassomir, although you’d be hard pressed to say they were raised there. Abandoned for being tieflings, they weren’t really raised at all. But they had each other, and they supported each other when others wouldn’t. From a young age they had to learn to hide what made themselves different, and no matter how long they did it for it always felt wrong and unfair. After a while they decided to leave it all behind, and left to travel on their own terms.
They found places and people that accepted them, and even though they were content they still felt that pull back to their home, to the other kids they grew up with, the other kids left in the streets. They wanted them to feel as happy and accepted as they were currently. So they went back, and I don’t mean to undersell them, but they did not have any sort of plan. They didn’t really know politics, but on the road they had learned not to hide who they were, that if you were loud enough someone would have to listen. So they made a band, making no attempt to hide that they were tieflings. They figured if they could get noticed enough for their voices to be heard they just might have some sway in the way things were run. It took a while but eventually they were noticed by a noble that liked them not in spite of being tieflings, but because of it. They helped them get their footing in higher circles, people who listened to them, although they weren’t sure if it was because they really supported their cause or just liked the thrill of supporting something “taboo”. And I guess that’s about where we are now.

There’s a few more details about harm but I’ll PM them.

Hi I'll be playing our Witch.

Spoiler:

I’m playing a Tiefling Witch whose name is Harmony, he is Harm’s brother and the older of the two. He is the Guitarist in their band In Harm’s Way. The rest of his Intro is exactly like Harms, as they spent the full time together. His familiars name is Apollo and just like his twin is never farther than arms reach.

Harmony’s character sheet

Apollo’s Familiar sheet

Will be PMing the details of the story.

Sounds good, assuming that electrical instruments are allowed.

Yes, they spoke with me offline. I'll be allowing it, as long as they use a cantrip slot to keep them powered

Alright, here's Valor's backstory

Spoiler:
Valor Gestahl was born in the Crownsgate district of Oppara, and raised by his tiefling mother Scarlet. His mother used her training in alchemy to make ends meet, but living in poverty wasn't easy. Racism kept most business away from Scarlet's shop, with most humans not wanting to do business with a tiefling. The only people willing to buy from Scarlet, were those struggling just as much. The prices needed to be low to bring in these customers though, meaning there was almost no profit being made. Valor spent most of his childhood helping around the shop however he could, cleaning and organizing, and even learning what he could about alchemy to lessen the burden for his mother. He was quite talented, and it was not long before his own alchemical creations began to be put on the shelves.
After a few years, the poor living conditions became too much for Scarlet. Born with a naturally weak constitution, her immune system began failing and she fell ill. Valor, now in his teenage years, had to run the store by himself, while caring for his ailing mother. He did what he could to help scarlet recover, but the reagents required to craft a remedy were too expensive to purchase. He sought aid from whoever he could, even going to other districts to find anybody generous enough to help, but none cared about the life of a lower class tiefling woman. The inevitable happened, and Scarlet soon passed. Stricken with grief Valor swore that he would fix this broken, uncaring nation.

Fending for himself now, Valor searched for more people sick of toiling endlessly to survive while the rich live in careless luxury. He found others like himself, and quickly befriended other reformers who actually care about the people they share these streets with. Broadening his studies to better suit his new purpose, he found he had a knack for explosive demolition and picking locks. Skills that could be invaluable to his cause. Change WILL come to Taldor, one way or another.

And his Character Sheet.

Though with both Valor and Minentte working with the reformers it is likely they are well acquainted, and if they are Valor would learn Varisian sign language in an attempt to ease communication with his mute ally. I can trade out one of my bonus languages in that case.

I'd be okay with that. Maybe a few of the folks in their circle started picking it up as a way to say things in code. Which is funny, because I pictured it being taught by some old Varisian lady... who is suddenly wondering why so many different people are attending her class, haha.
