Ok completely forgot about thieve's tools to pick locks. Since we don't have a rogue, I was wondering if I could swap my manacles, hooded lantern and buckler plus my last 3 gp for thieve's tools. I understand if this is not allowed since we've already started and all.
DM Zirhark |
I will allow you to go out and sell them for full price(Since it is the very beginning of the adventure) and you will be able to buy thieves tools. With this you will need to wait for shops to open the next day.
If anyone else has made any regretted decisions with gear they may do the same, but the offer expires once you guys enter the fishery.

Gaius Tindareus wrote:Cherry, I was checking out your profile to see what our options are to take down this Hookshanks fellow. Anyway, I noticed a mistake in your attack stats. The white hair uses the Str mod to hit and uses the Int mod to deal damage. If you hit someone with the hair and use your grapple ability as a swift action, on THAT roll you get to use your Int mod instead of Str to make the CMB roll. I thought the same as you did, but if you read the fine print it's there. (I have another character that's a white-haired witch). Anyway, just thought you'd want to know.@Gaius This is the type of stuff that is perfect for the discussion board, freeing up the game play thread of unnecessary clutter. Besides that everyone is doing great.
My bad. :-)

It will become pertinent eventually however. DM, how do you choose to rule on the matter of the White Hair? RAW, since there hasn't been an errata stating otherwise, Gaius is correct, I should be using my STR mod instead of my INT for the 'to-hit' roll. If you want to keep it that way, would you be willing to consider the Hair a light weapon & if so, may I switch out Weapon Focus: Hair for Weapon Finesse?
Gaius Tindareus |
Not to speak for the DM, but check out Weapon Finesse, from the SRD:
Weapon Finesse (Combat)
You are trained in using your agility in melee combat, as opposed to brute strength.
Benefit: With a light weapon, elven curve blade, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.
Special: Natural weapons are considered light weapons.
I bolded the relevant part--your white hair is a natural weapon, therefore it's a light weapon, therefore you can use it with weapon finesse.

Hey guys, just wanted to inform that on top of a killer week on my job, my fianceé's grandfather passed away this morning and we'll be attending the funeral. Long story short, I won't be able to post for at least until tonight, hope to find some time later so as to not let you guys down. See you later.
Gregorius Valerii |
I think we should try to tie up this encounter between the two groups of character quickly and move on to the next day... :P
Gregorius is ignoring Gaius and Cherry and going away, hopefully Kesser and Rumal will follow.
Gaius Tindareus |
I'd still like to look around for another hour or two to see if I can find this gnome or any other of Lamm's associates before turning in for the night. I'm find with a handwave of "yes, you found him" or "no, you didn't".
Gaius Tindareus |
Easy enough, you all realize who it is you have run into and after some joint searching you are unable to find any of the cronies.
Sounds good to me. Should we fast forward to the next day?
Gaius Tindareus |
I still would like to try to isolate one of the workers/thugs, knock him out, and impersonate him. Then we could try to lure a few guards out at a time as opposed to trying to fight everyone all at once.
I think a good way to try this would be to have us all hiding back a bit (at night) and have Rumal drunkenly walk by again, hopefully angering one or more lackeys into trying to chase him off. If they give chase around an alley, we pop out and jump them, etc.
Thoughts?
Rumal |
Rumal doesn't exactly like the idea of being bait. Especially since anything he would do to cause a violent thug to chase him, could be bad when that same thug catches real quick due to his move of 30 compared to Rumal's 20.
Gaius Tindareus |
So, do we have a plan of attack, then? I can't sneak around very well, but I can go up and try to bluff someone into leaving their post. You guys want me to try that?
Rumal |
How about a two-prong move. Those that can sneak move to the back, while the others create a distraction in the alley, or at the front door. Maybe they would come out to rescue a woman being attacked (cherry), maybe they would come out to partake? Or better yet we can try to coax some of them out into an alleyway ambush?
Gaius Tindareus |
Sounds good. From a mechanical standpoint, it's easier to bluff someone if it's something they want to hear. I was going to tell one of the workers that he/she is sent home with pay as a reward for their hard work. I have to take their shift for the day without pay as a punishment.
Good?
Rumal |
I think it's too risky to try and act as a member. They may be hyper aware of who they work with. Knowing who's in your gang is important in the criminal world. I was think you knock and let them know you saw some thieves crawling out their window, or maybe some of the kids escaping. Someone they would want to chase down an alley, where the four of us will be waiting to jump them.
Gaius Tindareus |
I like that idea too. Ok, I can be the "messenger". Everybody else good with ambushing? If we take some alive we can question them. Plus, some of the employees might be legitimate workers, so nonlethal damage would be best, in my opinion.
Rumal |
I doubt anyone in Lamm's building is working some legitimate business. As I understood, the building is a failed business, and they are squatting with no contest over property rights likely to come up any time soon. I think NL could be better as an afterthought. Fight to win, and when the last man in the fight is half beat, THEN worry about NL. Otherwise, I say all in to avoid escape and raising the alarm.
Before you go knock, I could pose as a human child in the dark, running toward the alley.
Gaius Tindareus |
Well, most of us posted in the gameplay thread, but I think Gregorius and Kessel weren't aware of our surprise plan first, as they were trying to sneak up on the fishery.
I think we should have Cherry, Kessel, and Gregorius waiting in an alleyway. Rumal is back towards the alley and starts running. Gaius runs up and (in disguise) yells into the fishery that someone ran away from their building and looked like a thief (already in the gameplay thread). Assuming someone comes out to investigate and, seeing Rumal running away, gives chase, Gaius will follow as though he is trying to help.
Then we ambush the runners. After that, perhaps Gregorius and Kessel want to do their stealth attempt. Don't want to speak for anyone else, just a suggestion.
Rumal |
Not really, I thought we were all in on the ambush. The mention of going through the back door, was before the 'draw some out ambush to thin their numbers' plan. Gregorius and Kessel should also be in the alley with Cherry. Gaius knocks and lies, Rumal is running bait toward the alley.

Ok I am going with this plan, and I will try and have the post up during my lunch today.

Woo hoo got power back this morning. And hot water, what a glorious day. I'll get this moving today so everyone can have today and the weekend to get back in the swing of things.
Yay!!
Calloo, Calais, Oh Frabjous day!
