Until further notice I am going to put this game on hold. I am too busy at work to put a significant enough effort forward and it is not fair to ya'll.

I do want to pick it back up again someday soon, just letting you all know what is going on.

Woo hoo got power back this morning. And hot water, what a glorious day. I'll get this moving today so everyone can have today and the weekend to get back in the swing of things.

Sorry guys Hurricane sandy has me pretty tied up atm I promise we will continue.

Gaius Tindareus wrote:

Well, most of us posted in the gameplay thread, but I think Gregorius and Kessel weren't aware of our surprise plan first, as they were trying to sneak up on the fishery.

I think we should have Cherry, Kessel, and Gregorius waiting in an alleyway. Rumal is back towards the alley and starts running. Gaius runs up and (in disguise) yells into the fishery that someone ran away from their building and looked like a thief (already in the gameplay thread). Assuming someone comes out to investigate and, seeing Rumal running away, gives chase, Gaius will follow as though he is trying to help.

Then we ambush the runners. After that, perhaps Gregorius and Kessel want to do their stealth attempt. Don't want to speak for anyone else, just a suggestion.

Ok I am going with this plan, and I will try and have the post up during my lunch today.

Like I said, I need you guys to post what you are doing so I know where to go next.

Alright we will move forward and I will DMPC Kessel so we can go. As soon as you guys are ready to commit post in the Gameplay thread. I have the maps made already so it should get moving pretty quick(Hopefully).

Does this mean no gnomish snack-rifice for me?

Once I know your guy's plan of attack we can continue to the fishery.

Morning, but if you want to wait till night I have no issue with that.

The next morning you all meet back up in the alleyway from the night before. You are looking back at the fishery from the night before. It looks like there is some commotion going on inside but nothing really on the outside. If you check the front doors they are locked. The windows are quite dirty so looking in seems to be a thankless task.

I will get up the post during lunch today.

Easy enough, you all realize who it is you have run into and after some joint searching you are unable to find any of the cronies.

Last couple days have been weak, but I know people get busy. Hopefully we'll all be better next week.

Yes like cherry said, no worries.

Gaius and Cherry:

As you two get to the alley way and look down you both will see a man who is not the guard who poked his head around. He is attempting to hide but you are able to spot him. He seems to be gripping a large sword.

Gaius you will also see a little further off into the corner a gnome. As they are trying to hide and have concealment you cannot make out the detailed features.

Kessel, Gregorius, and Rumal:

Kessel and Gregorius see the two figures enter the alley way but cannot make out features. You see a Human man looking quite drunk.

Further in the back Rumal takes a closer look and see's the woman behind the drunk man seems to have white hair.

DM rolls:

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 241d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 141d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Cherry:

I am taking that into account. Short of darkvision, sight at this time of night in this area is quite limited. You are getting more than those without the low light.

The man looks to be that of possibly a guards men. You can make out general features but not much detail. After a few seconds the head disappears back into the alley.

Rumal, Gregorius, and Kessel:

As Rumal is coming back to your location, Gregorius sticks his head out to look around. He will notice a man approaching your location. He seems to be yelling something towards Rumal. Being dark you cannot make out much until he gets a little closer. He seems to be a drunk human, who wandered away from the tavern.

Gaius and Cherry:

The gnome walks down and ally and you notice another man's head stick out briefly looking in your direction. The man looks familiar but with the lighting it is hard to tell.

Gaius and Cherry:

As Gaius and Cheer head into the Old District. As you enter the street lights start becoming sparse to the point where you have having difficulties seeing. You get to about the area where the drunk man pointed you, and off in the distance you can see a gnome looking like he has just wandered away from a building. It being too dark you can't quite make out much more than that. What luck, could it be him?

Cherry and Gaius:

"Leaving so soon beautiful? Why not stay and have a drink, I promise I won't bite... much. Ha Ha" With that he'll stumble over to another table and continue drinking. You guys feel that this is about as much good information you will be able to gather from this location.

Rumal, Kessel, and Gregorius:

As Rumal wonders over to the building and starts taking his piss, wistling like a drunk man. You begin to look around and are able to peer into a window. The window is quite dirty so the view is foggy. You are able to make out two humanoid figures within the room, one taller and the other looks as though it could be a child. You can hear a muffled conversation but it is unadudible from your location. They turn and walk out of the room.

Just then there is a decently large splash in the water. Probably a large fish but it sounds like someone is coming to check it out from the inside. Rumal decides to wonder off back down the street. As you walk away you can make out a blonde human (or human like) man step out and looking at the water. He stares over to Rumal. He will yell, "Shoo ya drunkard. Get back to yar damn bar." With that he goes back inside and slams the door.

Rumal will make it safely back to Kessel and Gregorius.

slow week but that's ok, we're still progressing.

I am cool with what Gaius has stated. You may switch your feats around if you wish.

Gaius Tindareus wrote:
Cherry, I was checking out your profile to see what our options are to take down this Hookshanks fellow. Anyway, I noticed a mistake in your attack stats. The white hair uses the Str mod to hit and uses the Int mod to deal damage. If you hit someone with the hair and use your grapple ability as a swift action, on THAT roll you get to use your Int mod instead of Str to make the CMB roll. I thought the same as you did, but if you read the fine print it's there. (I have another character that's a white-haired witch). Anyway, just thought you'd want to know.

@Gaius This is the type of stuff that is perfect for the discussion board, freeing up the game play thread of unnecessary clutter. Besides that everyone is doing great.

"Well, hello there pretty lady. You here to buy me a drink too?" With a drunken smile he turns to hit on Cherry. "That gnome, haven't seen him around here in a fort night. I would know I come here every day." He motions the bar tender for another ale.

"I think he hangs around in the old district. Not much over there and it can get dangerous after dark. He should shower more though, smelled like fish the last time." At this point he gets his new ale and grabs cherry's butt. "So are you gonna come keep me warm tonight? Ha ha ha."

Gaius and Cherry well head out to a tavern more on that side of town. Upon getting there you get the feel that this is a rougher side of town. You are able to talk to a few people looking for information. You find a few guys that know of Lamm but not any of his actual cronies. You are able to talk to a human girl as well who can't be much older that 15, she refers to Lamm as her dealer. She is completely coked out and looks to be having trouble keeping her sanity.

You are able to get some meaningful information out of one of the drunks. He will say "hic... I drank with a gnome named Hookshanks a few times. The fella was pretty loose with his lips about being one of Lamm's men.." Stops to take a drink. "boasting about some "powerful" position in a growing business. He was also showing off this exotic sword lookin thing, he had stolen from some foreigner visiting Korvosa. Poor guy comes to this fine city just to get mugged and Iomedae knows what else. I think he called it a Kukri"

You are able to acquire this information in just over an hour at the bar.

DM rolls:

1d4 ⇒ 1

You two head out then. Where do you go and what are you looking for?

Gregorius:

Well sure with such an amazing roll I can give you some more information.

You have seen places like this before. When someone dies and has named no heir in their will, their businesses, homes, and valuables are placed in a state of waiting by the city. They are held for up to 2 years waiting for someone to place a rightful claim to the property. If no one does then the city takes everything. Well smart crooks have been known to abuse this time of waiting and take over these properties, essentially living for free for years at a time. Lamm probably moved in here after the previous owner died with no named person in his will.

The three of you will head out towards the fishery.

DC 10 Knowledge(Local):

This part of town you are heading towards is known as one of the poorer parts of the city. It has not been labeled a dangerous area but Zellara is not sure as to how long Lamm has been here.

As you all make your way there you will notice fewer and fewer street lights. It is now to the point where Kessel and Gregorious are having alot of trouble seeing while Rumal is only having a little difficulty. You come upon the old building. It looks like it is a combination of abandoned and still in use. The reek of brine and the stink of week-dead fish hang thickly in the air here. The old double doors in the side of this weathered building are tightly closed, with a drooping signpost hanging above. The sign it once displayed is long gone, leaving behind only a single short length of rusted chain.

It does not seem to have much activity going on at this time.

@Rumal:

Due to low light vision plus your perception check you can see the following

You are able to make out a small dock off to the right that looks like it goes go around that side of the building. You also can make out a loading dock on the left but it is surrounded by a fence.

I will allow you to go out and sell them for full price(Since it is the very beginning of the adventure) and you will be able to buy thieves tools. With this you will need to wait for shops to open the next day.

If anyone else has made any regretted decisions with gear they may do the same, but the offer expires once you guys enter the fishery.

@Gregorius:

She seems true to her words. She also seems about as confused as all of you about the readings. She can read fortunes but she cannot interpret them any better than you folks.

Zellara will stop shuffling and begin drawning cards. She places them face down in a three by three pattern. She will motion for everyone to take a seat. "Please I will now read the fortunes of things have come to be, things that are, and things that are yet to come."

She first turns over the first column to reveal the cards "The Inquistor", "The Twin", and "The Tyrant". "There was a harsh abrupt reality forced upon someone. They had two paths in front of them. I also see a terrible person placed in a position of power." Next she turns over the next three cards: "The peacock", "The Brass Dwarf", and "The Publican". "Currently, the personal goals of one are changing to a new outlook. The one you seek is invulnerable to the ones seeking them. There is no place for them to hide." She turns over the last three cards to reveal "The Cricket", "The Demon's Lantern", and "The Rabbit Prince". "There will be fleeting feet in the futre that will end in an impossible situation. This will lead to an inevietable battle between forces that were once called allies."

At this point she turns to all of you and says "I have done what I can to help you. Please return here after you have brought Lamm to justice. I offer you any reward within my power, I just wish to see my son's murderer shown the way of his crimes."

At this point each of you have been granted 4 Harrow points. Please check out the campaign tab for infomation on these points and how they are used.

Slow mondays are OK, I didn't have my ipad yesterday (which has the pdf's of the AP) so I had to try and do everything from memory, my bad. Today I have it so we will continue.

Cherry is the first to draw a card. She reaches out a snaps a card out of the deck. Turning over the card reveals "The Cricket".
Zellara starts saying "The Cricket. This is an interesting card to have pulled, in the events yet to pass I forsee you jumping
through the blue sky elegantly like a cricket. You will find the right footing when it is most important."

Rumal is up next, drawning the next card. He turns the card over to reveal The Peacock. "This card represents something of a noble
demeanor. With its large feathers protecting it, this could mean some sort of noble's protector will be involved in your future. Or
there may be a a sudden personal change."

Gaius draws his card, turning it over to reveal The Avalanche. "Something terrible will happen soon in your future. A world can be
shattered and changed like with the power of a mountain sliding down."

Gregorius is next to draw his card. He turns it over to reveal The Crows. "Death surrounds you. It will encircle you like a plague
and bring you to your knees. A powerful outside force is drawing out your worldly pressence."
Zellara looks a little taken back
after reading the fortune. "I... I'm sorry friend. Please be careful with Lamm, this card is a sign of terrible things to come."

Lastly Kessel grabs his card out, turning it over to reveal the Locksmith. "You may hold the key to rerectiving a bad situation. Or
it may mean the key to a new destiny."

She sits back and says "You all can reflec for a moment while I set up for a reading." She will collect the cards and begin shuffling once again.

Don't worry about it, I've never done any kind of fortune reading before so this is harder than I gave it credit. I am working on them right now. Its a learning experience for all of us.

Gregorius reroll:

1d9 ⇒ 8

Gaius and Gregorius:
Go ahead and reroll, it'll be more interesting with a higher variety of cards.

Zellara lets out a sigh of relief. "You all don't know how much this means to me. Or maybe you do. Please let me read everyone's fortune with my Harrow Deck. It may not be much, but maybe it will help."

Zellara starts shuffling her deck again with the cards once again floating around her fingers. She then stops and holds the deck out to each of you. "Please draw a card so that fate may tell you something about the events that have yet pass. Perhaps we can learn more about Lamm."

To simulate drawing a card everyone can roll 1d9. Your card is replaced after you draw so doubles can happen.

As a request before we get into combat situations, can everyone add the stats that Gregorius and Cherry have to their avatar so I do not have to go digging for them.

important stats: HP(current/total), AC(touce, FF), Initiative, Saves, and Perception.

Anything else you feel to be helpful and does not make it over crowded is welcomed as well, such as bombs left/total, rage rounds, etc. Again only the important stats are required. Please do your best to keep them up to date as well.

Thank you in advance.

@DM Zirhak - Is there capital punishment in Korvosa? Would it be the penalty for Lamm's crimes?

It is cheliaxian controlled so by that assumption there will be capital punishment. But since you are a guard you would know he has been taken in once, but for an unknown reason (probably some kind of leverage) he was released with all charges dropped and the arresting guard was dismissed from service.

Kessel Bargone wrote:
Hey guys, I will not be able to post until monday due to my home computer dying. Just a heads up.

I get really busy on weekends as well which is why I made weekend posting optional. I will look at getting one more post up before I leave the office today.

I figured ha ha its ok.

“I will get right to it then. Thank you for coming, my friends, and for putting up with my unconventional method of contacting you. I have reason to remain hidden, you see—a terrible man would see great harm done to me if he knew I was reaching out for help. This is a man you know, for he has done something terrible to each of you as well. I speak, of course, of Gaedren Lamm, a man whose cruelty and capacity to destroy the lives of those he touches are matched only by his gift for avoiding reprisal. You see, a year ago, his thieves stole this, my Harrow deck, from me. It is important to me, an heirloom passed down through a dozen generations, and also mysole means of support. When pickpockets stole it, my son, Eran, tracked them down. The thieves were in the employ of Gaedren Lamm, and in reward for finding them, Gaedren murdered my son." After saying this, Zellara pauses for a moment. A slight tear comes to her eye.

“I sought help from the Guard, but they turned me away. And so I asked around. I paid bribes. I consulted my Harrow deck for advice. And recently, I was rewarded—I found out where Gaedren dwells. He can be found in an old fishery north of here at Westpier 17, where he trains his abducted children to be pickpockets and counts his stolen treasures."

“And now, I need your help. I cannot hope to face this man on my own, and the Guard moves so slowly that if I were to go to them, Gaedren would certainly know of their coming well in advance. Even if they did arrest him—what guarantee would I have he would be punished? This criminal has evaded the law for decades. But you know of these frustrations as well, for word on the street has it that Gaedren has wronged each of you, too. So there we are. It is time for him to pay. What say you?” Sitting back catching her breath a little, she looks upon you with a look of desperation.

At this point an attractive middle aged woman will appear and enter the house. She is wearing a stunning smile and as she looks over the group she begins to speak.

"Welcome to my home. I am Zellara, and I am the one who has brought all of you here. I hope I haven't made you wait on me for too long. Would you all mind putting faces to the names I have discovered?"

As she listens to your introductions, Zellara will produce a fine Harrow Deck from her pocket and begins idly shuffling it as she makes her way over to the table. It is obvious to everyone (even Rumal) her skill with the deck. The cards seem to float and dance over her hands and the table. She will nod her head indicating for everyone to take a seat at the table. There is conveniently exactly enough chairs for everyone.

There is both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink present and the bread happens to be a delicious desert type of bread made with cinnamon.

As everyone has entered there still seems to be no sign of Zellara.

Just waiting on some interactions from Gregorius and Gaius.

cherry blossom:

Yes the guard is pretty taken by your actions and does not notice the child get away. He will spend a few minutes staring at you as you leave. That is fine, it is the first day after all.

As Gregorius is the first one to arrive, right after his shift a little before sunset, his knock upon the door seems to open it. The door seems to have not been latched to begin with. As this should be a place of business, that would not be an unusual occurrence.

The cozy chamber within this small home is filled with a fragrant haze of flowers and strong spice. The haze comes from several sticks of incense smouldering in wall-mounted burners that look like butterfly-winged elves. The smoke itself seems to soften edges and gives the room a dream-like feel. The walls are draped with brocaded tapestries, one showing a black-skulled beast juggling men's hearts, another showing a pair of angels dancing atop a snow-blasted mountain. A third tapestry on the far wall depicts a tall hooded figure shrouded in mist, a flaming sword held in a skeletal hand. Several brightly-colored rugs cover the floor, but the room's only furnishings are a wooden table covered by a bright red throwcloth and several elegant tall-backed chairs. A basket covered by blue cloth sits under the table. Upon the table you find a note

You all can decide what order you get there in, as well as what happens while you wait.

After you guys have everything squared away, the gameplay thread is up.

Gaius:

Gaius wakes to a morning that is like every other. Still no leads on the case since the name he had received, ”Lamm”. This name has been ringing in his head nonstop for almost a month now. So close to the man yet so far. It seems most common folk have never even heard the name.

A knock comes at his door, but when he gets there, no one is to be found. Looking around he sees no one looks as though they are up yet. Closing the door and heading back to his bed to sit down and put on his boots, he will notice a card sitting upon his pillow. It has the picture of a mob with burning buildings in the Background. At the bottom is it is labeled “The Uprising”. What a strange thing to find, and who the hell put this here?

Cherry:

It was another morning in the market with Cherry looking over all of different fruits at one of the stands, when a few children came running past, knocking into her. Knowing that this is a pick pockets tactic, she immediately turned and went after the children. Just a minute later she ran into the guard who had already picked up one of the children.

”Sorry miss, these cretins just keep coming out of the wood work. Here is your money purse back.” With a smile the guard walks off with the kid. Checking her purse she counts the coins and they are all there, but to her surprise there is something extra. It was a Harrow card, with a picture of a man wearing a Jester’s mask. What a strange card, it is labeled “The Joke”, could this have a secret meaning?

Rumal:

Rumal wakes up outside Breathing Orc tavern with a slight hangover. This is not a new experience for him, but after he wakes he notices his stuff has been tampered with. Quickly looking through his belongings he finds everything is accounted for. Checking his Formula Book he quickly notices a card sticking slightly out of the top.

Picking it out as it quite obviously doesn't belong there, he revels he is looking at a Harrow card of sorts. The card is labeled "The Foreign trader". Such curious things happen when the night before tis a little blurry.

Kessel:

Dawn is breaking. Kessel has had a long night of running as a few of his old “colleges” friends had shown up in town looking for Kessel. Life just got interesting, running not only from the guard but now from some more thugs, and all he wants is Lamm on a silver platter. Just a few minutes ago, Kessel had set it up for the guard looking for him will find these “friends” of his and hopefully take care of both problems at the same time. But for now it is time for some grub.

Walking past a few of the drunks passed out in the street, Kessel enters a tavern by the name of Breathing Orc. Ordering up some eggs and grits he starts casing the place, making sure the danger has passed. Half way through his meal, kessel moves his plate to make room for another and underneath he finds a card. This just so happens to be a harrow card. Staring at it, it stares back with the picture of a rabbit wearing a crown. Looks like the rabbit is of the mischievous sort, and the card is labeled “The Rabbit Prince”. What kind of joke is this?

Gregorius:

Arriving to his shift at the guard on time, as usual, Gregorius heads straight to his locker. Being on the low end of funding his locker couldn't fit a halfing child within it, but he has managed to get all of his uniform and bow stored away in it. Just coming off of a double shift the night before, his mind is a little hazy, the kids in the slums had crept out and started trouble in the market district once again.

Gregorius may be the only person who knows how to fit everything just right in the locker. He starts pulling everything out when he notices something sticking out of his quiver. Pulling it out and looking it over he notices it is a Harrow card. Who could have put this here all the way at the back of the locker? It has a key pictured on it, with the wording “The Locksmith” at the bottom.

The cards turn over to revel a message written on the back.

This will be pretty early in the morning for everyone so if you do anything special today out of your usual day just let me know.

DC 10 Knowledge(Local) or Gather Information(diplomancy):

3 Lancet Street is the home and place of business of a fortune-telling Varisian woman named Zellara.

A little conflict up front can lead to great roleplaying down the road, given the players are mature enough to accept change with the direction of the party in mind. I wanted a wide spectrum of people going after lamm, people who could find themselves side by side protecting people they normally wouldn't.

Just remember the worlds problems are much larger than any single person. If after the first section I see party cohesion isn't going to happen, there were 15 people I cut who would love to get it (such as Alain and Alaric).

Hopefully none of this will be a problem.

Gregorius:

Yes you can switch to that, we'll go with the +2 version to keep it in line with the rest of the traits.

Just waiting on Kessel now.

That's fine as well.
