Game Master Mark Sweetman

The Shadow Claw has sent you forth as a vanguard of Geb to seek a book that may hold the key to where Nex has been hiding all these years...

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

I will head down the passageway to the right, hoping that it will lead me to the library and not the priests quarters.

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

GM:
The reason I put Ignac into the BoH for a while is that I've been having IRL problems, but I don't want to slow down the PBP, let alone drop out. Sorry if this is a problem for you.

Ignac continues twiddling his eternal thumbs in the bag of holding.

Minor Crab-beast

1d2 ⇒ 1

Daemon begins moving down the chosen corridor, and is relieved when his life-sense does not pick up bunking priests. The first room that you come to has an open portal, and contains some tables and makings for food and drink.

Moving on or investigating?

Ignac:
Not a problem at all, take the time you need - game will be here when you get back.
Just so you know - the mention was not aimed at you in any way. It was more a mild reminder to the other party members that you hadn't been included in their plans.
If we get to a combat situation I can DMPC if you like?

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

GM:
No, i thnk I should be fine. If people start posting really quickly, then it might be a problem, but I'll be able to post at the regular 1/day rate. I've just gotten a big reduction in the amount of time I'm able to be online, is all.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

It seems to be Daemon and Gabrial's game at the moment. Vesta wil continue to patrol until she sees an opening to get inside.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Gathroc want smash puny humans!! Srsly, can we somehow speed this up a bit, 3 of us are just sitting around. At least Dameon and Ignac got somethin a bit cool to do last time we split up

Minor Crab-beast

I've given Daemon an opening to join the party back together.
I'm happy for him to break versimillitude and just say he wants to do that and then I can take it from there.

Minor Crab-beast

Alternatively - if 3/5 say please regroup us, I'll force fit it to the encounter too.
I always intended for you to be regrouped before you made an attempt on the actual chamber which houses the book.

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

I assumed the scouting mission was to locate the place where the book was held, so that we could regroup, and then arrange a surgical strike to access it...

Minor Crab-beast

In a brief moment where it seems that the very laws of physics hang suspended in the air, your actions are subsumed beneath the will of a merciless power beyond the stars.

Daemon walks past the first room to the end of the corridor and finds a room that has a marked circle on the floor. Noting a scroll on the side of the chamber he is compelled to read it aloud and suddenly you hear a slight pop followed by a rush of air.

You all open your eyes and find that you are within the summoning chamber within the cathedral. Daemon shakes his head as though recovering from a walking dream and you steel yourself to move deeper into the cathedral.

*cough* - carry on then men

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

"What the....?" Vesta starts, but the thought is never complete.

"Thats odd."

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

apologies for going MIA yesterday, computer went down for a bit, thanks for getting the party back together, I was beginning to feel like a bit of a spotlight hog. Someone else may lead if they wish

"Ah! Good, I was just wondering how on earth I was going to get everyone back together again."

Minor Crab-beast

For clarity, outside the room, there is a single corridor leading onwards.
The only room you bypassed was the initial one I described - the mess hall.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Gathroc takes the sudden teleportation in stride. He's several thousand years old, not much mundane magickal occurrences surprise him any more.

DM, odd question: Could Vesta "possess" me without any ill effects if I willingly allow her? sort of as a shared existence temporarily? Vesta, if that's possible, would you be willing to do that?

Potentially, but why?

Minor Crab-beast

The possession ability acts as though magic jar which is surprisingly not a mind-affecting ability. So RAW it looks like Vesta could attempt to possess an intelligent undead creature.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Admittedly, this is probably not even possible, but it seemed interesting. What I was thinking was to have Vesta posses me, so as to combine her magickal senses with his physical body and prowess. Only question would be what happens to Gathroc's mind/soul while possesed. Like I said, not sure how possible this is.

Minor Crab-beast

Basically works like THIS
But Gathroc would be 'supressed' while Vesta possessed you, and unable to take any actions.
While Vesta would get a physical boost - it would be less powerful than the two of you acting separately.

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

She wouldn't gain any of your feats, so it would be pretty much useless, unless there were a field which prevents incorporeal things from going through, in which case, it will most likely also stop the rest of us.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

We'll keep that in mind, but my current body has a pulse so I'll stick with it until I have reason to do otherwise. ;-)

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Drawing his blade, Gathroc looks to Daemon. "Which way to the book?"

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10
Gathroc The Betrayer wrote:

"I second that sentiment." Vesta says

Minor Crab-beast

Daemon doesn't know explicitly where the book is, but the library is in this side of the monastic inner chambers.

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

Let's keep exploring... Gabriel then quietly begins to 'rummage' around...

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

If you all remember correctly the book was hidden from magical scrying. We will have to search the old fashioned way. I say stiffly

Minor Crab-beast

Moving from the chamber that you are in, you continue down the corridor to a staircase. The stairs go both up into the higher levels and downwards into the sub-basements.

"To the library then. Good of a place to start as any. "

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

"Pick a direction, up or down, and I'll take lead"

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10
Gathroc The Betrayer wrote:

"Up I think. You wouldnt want books in the basement because of moisture and mold." Vesta responds

Minor Crab-beast

Moving up one floor, the group ventures out and finds a room that has a locked wood and glass door barring entry to it. Peering through the glass section at the top of the door, you see rows upon rows of bookcases bedecked with manuscripts and tomes of knowledge.

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

"Well, this looks promising."

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

"One of you want to check to see if this door is warded? Then Gabriel can open it. Again, I'll take lead with Ignac flanking me."

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

detect magic on the door.

Minor Crab-beast

Vesta detects a myriad of dweomers both on the door and beyond it.

Spellcraft for more info

Spellcraft for more info

Spellcraft 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

And a few more if you need them.

Spellcraft 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20

Spellcraft 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

Spellcraft 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

Spellcraft 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Minor Crab-beast

Vesta detects a twin set of magical alarms tied to the lock mechanism. One would sound audibly and the second would send a silent message to someone within the monastery.

Beyond the door it is difficult to segregate and identify what lies there. A soupy melange of all schools and applications of magic is all you can discern from this side of the portal.

Vesta points all this out then says "Gabriel I believe this is your department. "

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

Consider it done.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (18) + 24 = 42.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41.

Minor Crab-beast

Gabriel works for a few minutes and is confident that he has disarmed the spells warding the portal.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

"After you." Vesta says motioning to the doorway in a sweeping dramatic fashion.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

If no one else goes through the door Vesta will roll her eyes and go through the door.

Minor Crab-beast

Vesta attempts to open the door using her guard's body - but despite the traps being removed... the lock still functions. She is therefore unable to gain entry.

I'm back and ready to rock :)
So lets kick down / unlock the door and get ready for the mayhem.....

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Gathroc looks to his diminuative companion "Was picking the lock beyond your abilities? No matter, I shall take care of this." With that he grips his blade with both hands and smashes the door down.

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

As Gathroc breaks down the door I hiss in distaste. "I hope you treatment of books is better."

Gathroc The Betrayer wrote:

"Lets not forget the need for stealth." Vests says

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

Hold on, Gathroc...

Disable Device: 1d20 + 24 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 24 + 4 = 29.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 24 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 24 + 4 = 30.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 24 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 24 + 4 = 42.

After a bit of fiddling, Gabriel manages to get a hang of the locking mechanism...

Minor Crab-beast

Gabriel manages to cool the headless horseman in time to allow him to tinker with the lock and coax it open.

The door swings outwards and you gain access to the library proper. There are rows and rows of bookcases and books present. The shelves seem reasonably ordered though there are many of them. On the side of each shelf appears a small series of numbers.

On the far opposite wall there are a few reading desks set up, as well as a larger working desk at one side.

"Damon, start going through the desk and I'll do a detect magic sweep of the books." Vesta detects magic looking for glory books.

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

May I recommend a quick search for further alarms?

Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33, +4 Vs Traps.

Minor Crab-beast

Gabriel sees no further cause for alarm as he detects no traps upon the room itself.

Vesta spies multiple magical signatures from many of the books upon the shelves.
