The adventurers have formed their alliance with the Sargavan government and are leading the way for them to find Saventh-Yhi, the legendary city! Many trials await them before they will have a chance to reach their final destination.

Will Nim be brokering the side deal with the Mantises? While Tragershen understands the need for it and agrees to it, he will deliberately exclude himself from the discussions and negotiations so he is not put into a position where he has to lie to Jask.

Nim stays quiet and in the background during the meeting with the Government.

After the negotiations are concluded and the party is alone, Nim seeks approval to contact the Mantises and formalize a side agreement with them. Anyone is welcome to join him, but he will proceed on his own if required.

Jask aka DM Stephen wrote:

Things could get dangerous for you now. I would suggest speaking to no one, finding a more secure place to stay, and sticking together for the moment. See you tomorrow.

When he gets a chance to talk to Jask in relative privacy, he'll ask a series of questions of Jask, giving him plenty of time to answer between each. "How long do you think it will be before the government forces are ready to depart? Do you know if the government's agents are aware of any threats or rivals that we should be particularly wary of? Will you and the half dozen legionnaires be the only representatives going with us? If we wish to have any personally acquired henchmen or similar allies accompany us, would the government have any objections?"

GM, did they say when the 500 gp would be provided? Do we give them a list of mundane gear to assemble, or do we scour the city ourselves for it?

Considering the legal concerns we have around Grolik, should we try to see if he can come with us?

You are actually the scouting group. You will be blazing the trail so to speak. I will not be with you, I will actually be in the main caravan 2-3 weeks behind you with general Rotilius. The 6 men will be under your orders and are very loyal.
I am to serve as Rotilius' chief of staff and camp healer.
We will work with you on the best route to your destination and be following behind you.
To search for and find a city such as this will require a large amount of supplies and a trade route with armed guards.
There will be the following in the rear group:
50 legionnaires, the general, myself, about 30 porters and the same number of pack animals going with our group to carry various supplies. As you can tell we will need about another 2-3 tendays to get ourselves ready for a long treck.
We want you to be able to move swiftly, in fact we may have a source to assist us with this as well.
I think you could be ready to leave in about a 10 day once we have your supplies ready and the route set up.
The 500gp will be paid to you now if you are ready to read over and sign the documents?

Basically part of the agreement once both parties have signed is for you to work with them on the route you will be following, which means giving up part of the secrets you have found.

As far as Grolik is concerned, he is still wanted by the authorities, it would make the situation difficult if he were to try and join you...

Aedalis signed the documents and gave Jask a pleasant smile.

No questions. I'll use this time and money provided to get a few more tricks up my sleeve...

When he gets a chance, Aedalis will have a private talk with Tragershen...

Tragershen:

We've just painted a gigantic target upon ourselves. If you are familiar with a spell to ward our beds each night we sleep, i'd humbly request you save some room in your mind for such a luxury.

Aedalis and GM:
"I do have it, and indeed this very night I will prepare it. A sensible precaution. I will do so. I will set it to awaken only myself; that way if there is a false alarm, our tactic is not tipped off to anyone watching us."

So Tragershen will use his bonded object casting that night to cast Alarm for the group. The next morning, he'll start to memorize it. He will methodically pace off the range of his spell to make sure everyone is covered by its area. If anyone needs to be moved to fit within the area, he'll approach them about moving. When the group can meet in private, he'll let them know what he is planning to do. During the day, he'll find a signal whistle that he is confident everyone could here if he uses it during the night.

Don't forget that the government also offered you a measure of protection if you are interested? They do want to protect their investment as well.
Sounds like you are good, time to meet with the Mantis.

You know where to find the mantis but you are concerned about being seen meeting with them overrides you going directly to them.

How do you plan to meet with them? You know you are being followed by several factions at least.

Nim points out that he both has a reason to visit the Mantises (Sasha) and the means to do so without being followed easily (wildshape). Of course, if we are being scryed upon, then we are already in trouble.

Nim decides to use stealth, leaving Corbrius behind in order to fly over to the Mantis headquarters off the Inn's roof that night.

They quickly usher you in after you land. Sasha is not there when you arrive, but Chivane is. They send for her, but it gives you a chance to speak. When you relay your group's offer she smiles... It is a dangerous game you play, but quite smart. You take us away as possible enemies while allying with one of the more conventional factions. You know what we want, the temple rumored to be in the city. The rest of the Savnth-Yhi is yours...and the governments.
We can't be seen fighting for you so our alliance will not be in the open as we would have previously been. To be honest most of my followers here are not as stealthy as they need to be in order to pursue you unseen so you will need to tell us where you are going, your route, and we can keep tabs on you.
Here is the contract:
We are willing to pay you a 500gp commission to help us find the city. Also we will supply you with 2000gp in poisons and antidotes to fight anything you need to along the way or within the city.
You grant us all rights to any temples of the Mantis God, Achaekek you find.
I will meet with you disguised tomorrow to execute the contract at your Inn with the rest of the group. Lady "Istana" will summon you for a meeting, I will be pretending to be a scholar.

Just a short while later Sasha arrives. You spend some time together and Chivane gives you some time alone as well. By this point she is about 6 months pregnant and showing quite a bit.

Any questions for her or Sasha? Also feel free to make out your list of stuff you want from them.

Government meeting...
Nim signs the contract with the government and asks, What is the nature of the protection you offer?

Mantis meeting...
In lieu of the fighting men you were going to make available to us in the previous offer, might I suggest substituting a number of scrolls of sending to simplify contact between our two parties?

On my phone atm, list to follow when I get home later. :)

It would also seem prudent to pick up a wand or two of pass without trace to make following us much more difficult. :)

We can supply you with a much more secure house to stay at. If you wish we can also supply some guards to watch over you and your things during your stay in the city until you are ready to leave at the house.

We will be staging your equipment as well as ours at a warehouse you will have access too. Jask will be coordinating this.

Any response from the Mantises to Nim's suggestion? (re: the sending scrolls)

Just to clarify, you need a list of 2000gp worth of poisons and antidotes for the Mantises, a list of mundane equipment up to 125gp for each character for the Government, and each character gets an additional 1000gp each to spend immediately (500gp from each faction) on whatever they want? Anything else?

If we are actually contemplating any poisons... I would suggest considering: huge scorpion venom, baneberry, blue whinnis, drow poison and perhaps some oil of taggit or thornapple.

Otherwise, we could load up on antiplague, antivenom and vermin repellent...

The Mantis don't have access to that kind of magic or the current funds to pay for it. Chivane seems unconcerned about contacting you along the way as long as she has your route before you leave.
You are correct in the assessment of rewards and poison/antidote purchase. I would stock up on Antidotes...just a friendly suggestion.

Do you want me to move things forward while you purchase? If anything happens in the meantime we can say it hasn't arrived yet. The action is about to pick up so let's get ready to kick this thing off again.

Male Human (Varisian) Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim archetype) 6

Mihai serves as a functionary coordinating discussions with Jask and the Lady with respect to their coming journey into the wild. You can sense that he is uneasy at the double life that is proposed being a party to both the government and the Mantises... especially when terms dictate handing over all artifacts of the temple of an evil god back to his subjects... rather than being able to destroy them in the name of the Walker. But the life of that which cannot choose for itself outweighs those concerns... for now.

After the treatment at the hands of the Inquisitor though he offers no further assistance to the city or authorities in the matter of the murders.

Ready to rock and roll. I think a small jump forward would be good. I'll try and get purchases up in the next day or so.

All of you sign the government agreement as well as get an agreement from them for the same that Tragershen holds on to.

You take the government up on their offer of a more secure house to stay at. When you get there it is closer to a villa, with a 10 foot high wall, a small garden and half a dozen servants. Even more important is the 6 Eledian Legionnaires stationed there to help guard you and the house. Their sergeant, Destruvian, explains to you that they are the men that have been assigned to you and will be accompanying you on your journey to find Saventh-Yhi when you leave. The six of you are considered their superior officers and they report to you. He then go on to let you know that each one of them has been picked for their loyalty and will follow your orders unless they are suicidal or work against the goals of the Sargavan government. Other than that thy have not been given any other orders other than to follow yours. Did you have any questions for or about the 6 men?

It starts out as a beautiful week without any of the normal heavy rains. The 2nd day into your preparations you are called to the warehouse to discuss the route with the team. Rotilius is there with Jask as well as one of Rotilius scouts in the office in the back. They get details from you on where you are going and they start to discuss how to get there, stops, supply routes, etc. Maps get strewn across the tables and walls. You come to realize that it will probably take you several meetings to hammer out the logistics.

When you come back the next day the warehouse is a bustle of activity. Various porters and workers move in and out. Jask and 6 men of the city guard appear to have almost taken up residence in the place. Jask seems to be in his element greeting you warmly as you decide to stop in and check to see how things are going and meet with Rotilius.
Jask walks up, Your staging area is right over there. There is a space for your animals and various supplies. If you wish for me to arrange it I can purchase your supplies with ours to stretch our gold!
He is interrupted a number of times while you speak to haggle with a merchant or discuss some arrangement with a city official who comes in. Rotilius arrives and you hammer out another meeting and have a pretty good plan for the next stage of your trip to find the city.

The week is relatively quiet other than the preparations. The only thing that mars the week is the news of another death in the city after a couple of days. The rate of the murders seems to have slowed down…or the government is keeping a tight lid on it. You have heard rumors of search parties looking for Grolik outside the city but they seem to have had no luck…that you have heard.

I will upload the route your groups have decided to take to get to Tazion, won’t let me do it from work for some reason.

Seven days have passed and you get a message from Jask that your animals and supplies have arrived and you decide to look over them. You are on the way to the warehouse when there seems to be a big commotion coming from that area. You hear screams coming from a couple of streets over and you also see smoke coming from that area!

I was waiting for you guys to say something or confirm if you were casting any spells. Since there were no comments I am guessing you are waiting on me. I will advance things along.

You start running towards the warehouse and the commotion. You turn the corner to the street that the warhouse is on and see a confusing scene.
A half dozen savage dogs are barking at doors or chewing on a body lying in the street. People are further down the street watching from the corners from a distance. Two men are stand outside of the Warhouse that you have not seen before, both wear bear masks. There is smoke coming from inside the warhouse and you see them attack a horse with Longswords as it rushes out of the smoke. They appear to have a bandolier on their chest.
Both detach a vial and throw it on the front of the warehouse, more flames start from the outside of it. You see several guards laying dead in the street as well...

You are about 100 feet from the front of the warehouse and the men, map and initiative to follow shortly.

The dogs look up at you and start growling getting the two mens attention...

I am just asking for clarification, but whose warehouse is burning? Does the above mean "2 men we haven't seen before" or the warehouse?

If it is ours, I am assuming it is the 125 gp (per player) mundane equipment that is at risk? And perhaps some mundane party equipment (unlisted as of yet)?

Given the cost of a horse... and only 125 gp per player, that must have been the one and only horse we could have afforded to purchase. ;)
