No armour or weapons for me in the tavern

Eckart glances around at the faces as they enter the tavern. He had seen similar places before but rarely been inside one. At least with there being alot of soldiers here it wouldn't be as rowdy as some places could get, he assumed.

He has a few drinks to enjoy the night but holds himself back from going too far. Slightly tipsy was more than enough. Even that much would be too much for some of the monk teachings he lad learned from. "This place seems well enough for our type. As long as the soldiers here as the disciplined sort." He watched Allie drink a little too much, though not that much by some people's standards, true she was a small girl. He smiled, that was a side of her he never thought to see. Usually so, reserved.

"Well I have no idea. I doubt he would come here to talk about anything super secret. Maybe it's something about next week's training. If it helped us get a head start on everyone else wouldn't you want to find out?" He stands up and looks around, making sure no one else is watching him and heads towards the curtain as if he just happened to be wanting to walk that way. Act normal...

Eckart approaches the curtain in what he hopes us a silent manner. The voices behind are quiet whispers, barely audible in the loud tavern. At first it seems dull and bored. Their tones are flat, discussing the weather and whether the dark clouds mean rain tonight. After a few minutes, both lapse into complete silence. Eckart is about to leave and rejoin his tipsy friends when he hears the clink of coin in a bag. Many coins. He pauses and hears the bag slide over the table.

"As requested...the cold weather from the south has arrived then?" the question comes from the soldier who had moved to meet Fisk.

"Like a bad breeze. It's forming in the eye of the storm. Mosilde leads the search. The winds should be moving the weather down an Eastern pattern to the wall. They then go south..to the great port city."

The two say little else, moving on to discuss who will win the jousting tournament in Taldor in three months before the strange soldier leaves, walking out the door and seeming cautious of followers.

Male Elf Unchained Rogue/Wizard/Fighter 2

Eckart returned to his friends with a strange look on his face. "That was strange. They were just talking about the weather. But they knew where it was going. And some search." He shrugs.

Daen noted with interest the young man, what was his name?, when he went over to listen in on the conversation. His first impulse was to stop him but he ran off before Daen remembered his name. Eckart, that was it. He gathered the intelligence with ease and Daen took note of his abilities.

"In a public place, you'd probably be vague if you had anything important to say." He thought for a moment. "With the weather, I'd imagine a country like this has to be concerned with seasonal storms, but as often as they are in conflict with demons and orcs, it may just be referring to that. You don't have to search for the weather in any case."

After he said that, he wondered if he should have. There were quite a few trained, drunken soldiers around that might want to start something with an enemy if they thought one might be nearby. He looked around nervously to see if anyone was listening in.

Sorry for the delay, Lizard catching should slow down a bit for the next couple of weeks, so posting will be more regular.

Kassie won't wear her armour (she'll wear her fancy corset instead) but will, seeing that Jalen is bringing his sword, bring hers, as well as 2 daggers, 1 concealed in her wrist-sheath, the other openly on her belt.

When they enter the tavern Kassie smiles warmly at Jalen, "Nice place. Do you bring all the girls here?" and makes sure to sit next to him at the table, matching him drink-for-drink as Allie, unused to the cider, rapidly lapses into drunkenness. Kassie herself gets more than a little tipsy, not being much more used to so much alcohol than her sister. "What's that he said?" Kassie asks, "The weather? It's not raining is it?... Oh Allie, wait for me." With that she stands, the sudden rush causing her to unbalance slightly and bump the table, spilling ale into Eckhart's lap. "Oops, sorry." she says, leaning forward to help him clean it off (and presenting a view of her cleavage) "Hold on, we'll be back in a moment."

Allie:

When they get to the restrooms, Kassie smiles and drunkenly lurches forward to give Allie a hug. "Are you having fun? I'm having fun. We should do this more often... I don't know why mother wouldn't let us drink with the soldiers. Its,... fun. Did I say how much fun this is?.."

Jalen frowns at Eckart and scoots his chair closer. ”Searching for what? Weather? That sounds...interesting.” Jalen watches the soldier weave his way through the crowd heading for the door.

”If it does have to do with demons, Daen..we should follow him...but probably not.” Jalen leans back in his chair, tapping fingers against the table.

Daen notices a table with three men that look more like dock workers than soldiers, possibly stopping by on their way home for the day. However, unlike most of the others their carousing seems subdued. Only a single drink sits on the table, and their food is hardly touched. Instead, their attention seems to be on the soldier Fisk had spoken with. As the man reaches the door and steps out, they stand and move toward it.

Ardis, tipsy from drink, stands and waves a hand at Jalen. ”That..that sounds like a way to get into trouble.” He grumbles as Kassie knocks a drink across the table and into Eckart's lap, waving for a server to bring over a rag.

”A-allie, you need to watch your sister..” He mumbles as the two move away.

On their way to the washrooms, Kassie and Allie run into Elyssa who shakes her head at them. "Anything fun happen while I was gone?"

Strange thing, though not the strangest thing that i..." he tries to jump back from the spilled drink but of course it is over him before he can move, he sighs as the liquid is absorbed into his pants and her help only rubs it in more. Not exactly the kind of situation that he would have imagined a pretty girl in his lap. "It's fine, damage is already done, I'll just get them cleaned." He looks around at the others sighing. As Eckart gets up to go, Ardis frowns and tries to give him a clumsy pat on the arm. "Can you-can you make your way back fine? I didn't..didn't think but..doubt any of you have been here before. If you just go back the way we came..if you have a knack for recalling that kind of thing."

Eckart chose to leave only shortly after Fisk's mysterious visitor and, fortunately, also rolls fairly well on his perception. He moves toward the door and three men with ragged beards and a tough demeanor push past him and out. They seem intent on the individual who left just before them.

Once out of the Rose Chalice, the scrub has to step carefully over a drunken man passed out in the street and his companion trying to move him. The man who had spoken to Fisk as well as his three stalkers are heading down toward the docks, away from where the way to the Bonewatch lays.

Daen waves a finger to gain Jalen's attention while nudging Urias next to him. Keeping his voice low he spoke in earnest. "I don't think we should allow anyone to do violence in secret. I believe those men are going to follow our trainer's friend, presumably with ill intent. It would be best if they didn't know we were following them..." He pressed the bridge of his nose for a second, thinking of a good excuse.

Eckhart! Wait up! Anyone who's first thought was to go home after getting flirted with was either not drunk or cool under pressure. It would be good to bring him along. Daen crossed the room with confidence. "I've had about enough myself. I'll come with you." He suddenly got concerned as he got there though, as he just put out personal information. Subterfuge wasn't his business. It was far too worrisome. Give him a pile of books any day.

Eilidh, feeling slightly more stable, significantly more attractive, and much less comfortable, walks back to the table to see Daen, Urias, and Eckhart talking. She catches the last words from Daen. Jalen glances at Daen, then leans in to listen to him, his smile turning into a concerned frown. "...following. Hmn. Do you think they're spies for..who? Lastwall has no issues with any of the nearby nations.."

As Daen stands, Jalen motions for Ardis and starts to get up himself. "Daen has the right of it..we've had a long night and should get going. Let's go, Ardis."

Ardis shakes his head, glancing behind him. "I uh..was going to wait for Allie and her sister."

Elyssa returns to the table and seats herself, propping her feet up. "I've got no desire to go rushing off anywhere. I'm staying here for a few. Don't let Jalen encourage you to be back to the Bonewatch on time, bah!"

The other scrub shakes his head at the alchemist and sighs.

Day 6

For the sake of leaving off on something a tad bit more involved...going to assume Kassie & Allie return to the table in time, Eckart waits up at Daen's request and Urias chooses to tag along. Elyssa stays behind.

Outside of the Rose Chalice, a man is passed out in the street, most likely from drink. Fisk's acquaintance and his three shadows are turning down the road up ahead, heading toward the docks rather than up the street to the merchant districts and the Bonewatch. As you start to follow them, a slow drizzle comes steadily down.

"Look," he whispers, The man's stopped, let's see what happens first?"

Fisk's mysterious companion has stopped and is facing the three shadows, who each have large cudgels in hand.

"We saw that bag ye had earlier. You have gold and plenty of it. Hand it over, and there's no need for any trouble."

Jalen glances to the rest of you and arches an eyebrow. "...it's nothing but a few robbers."

The three wait for a response, but none is given. Not getting the answer they wanted, the leader shrugs and motions forward. "Well, let's just beat an answer out of him them."

"A guard wouldn't arrive on time." After steeling his nerves, Daen boldly stepped out into the alleyway. Noticing the drainpipe, he made note of it being slightly out of his reach at the time.

Instead he warned the bandits. "Vigil doesn't take kindly to thieves. You haven't committed a crime yet, so be on your way and we won't have trouble here." He really hoped that the rest of the crew would at least back him up here, this was going to be a rough one if they didn't. Despite several of the scrubs being atrocious at stalking quietly, none of the four seem to notice them. Or, if they do, make not a single apparent comment about it.

Ardis follows quietly, in a poor state from the drinking. He is paying far more attention to Allie than whatever it was they were up to. He simply went along because Jalen encouraged him to.

The black-haired Jalen moves swiftly behind Daen, a hand on the hilt of his sword. "Like he said..there's no reason for trouble. You're more than outnumbered.." Jalen glances behind himself, hoping the others would back up Daen's ploy as well. He lets out a relieved sigh as the scrubs slowly move behind him and Daen, giving force to the half-elf's words.

The two thugs closest to the hooded man start to grumble, shifting their feet. The one closer to Daen just shakes his head. "What..do you think you're doing, boy? We have a perfectly valid problem with this here fellow..you see, he actually owes me a fair sum and has been avoiding me. So..me and a few friends figured we'd try to convince him to give it over without having to involve a prison cell."

As he speaks, he moves closer to Daen, putting on a weak smile. Behind the thugs, the hooded man takes a step backward, only for two more figures to appear behind the broken wagon up ahead and shake fingers at him. "Uh uh. No escaping."

Half cursing the thug who stuck his sword into him and half cursing himself for not bringing his protection spell that would have deflected the blow, he broke into a martial stance. Spitting blood kept him from any power to his punch, but he stepped back and continued the assault.

He wanted to heal himself, but he also hadn't finished reading the law. His own family was disgusted by the use of the infernal healing spell, despite their own moral failures. It was the appearance of the thing for them. Here, there were genuinely good people in charge, or at least their had been. So he still didn't know if it were permitted, even in the gravest situations.

Daen would have politely refused the dagger offer by Kassie. Having one would be breaking the law, and he'd rather not do such a thing because he'd not want to be kicked out of the knights, but he would appreciate the offer.

"Oh...*hurk*...oh, Goddess. Goddess, please bind this man...m-man's wounds." Eilidh touches her holy symbol against Daen's back, forgetting about her wand in the moment. Oh goddess, someone will hear this and the Guard will be here soon. Fisk will find out about this for sure. Why did there have to be blood?

Round 1

Kassara moves forward behind Eckart and Daen, avoiding the corpse of the dead bandit at Jalen's feet. She holds her sword ready with an unsteady, unsure smile on her lips. ”One of your friends is down and you're outnumbered. Surrender!”

Round 2

Daen's attack is easily blocked, but the blast of blue energy smacks into the thief's face, making him stumble backwards. Jalen moves forward again, swinging his fist this time, sword point bloodied and pointing downward. Attack:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 for 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 nonlethal damage.

Eckart continues to roll around on the ground with the bandit, unable to get a solid grip on him.

Ardis seems to gather himself up and approach the battle, unable to do anything in the narrow alley. He picks up a nearby cobblestone and throws it at one of the robbers. Attack:: 1d20 + 2 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 - 2 = 13 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage.

Unfortunately, neither of their attacks land. The bandit's thick leather armor deflecting most of the harm.

The robber grappling with Eckart struggles, trying to break free. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 While his companion lashes out at Jalen. Attack:: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21 for Damage:: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11. ”S-surrender?! You killed Felipe and will probably kill us! I'm going to cut your throat out, b$#&#!”
Critical Confirmation:: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 2 = 8 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Jalen lets out a gasp as the bandit's weapon shears through his shirt and leather armor, tearing into his abdomen and dropping him to the ground with a groan.

Urias, following Jalen's lead, swings at the bandit with his gauntleted fist. Attack:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 for 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 nonlethal damage staggering the thief backwards.

Kassara gasps as Jalen falls to the ground and darts over him, lunging her blade toward the retreating robber's throat although he deflects the attack with a parry. Attack:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

While one of the thugs continues holding the hooded man, the other pulls out a crossbow and fires a shot off at Eilidh. "One of 'em's a cleric!" Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 for 1d8 ⇒ 3 damage

Shouldn't Eilidh get soft cover from Daen?

It seems as if Daen got a little greedy for divine help since Jalen went down. Daen was pretty sure he was dead, but who knew what tricks that girl had off her sleeve? There was a chance they could still bring out a solid victory here if they could at least force them to retreat.

Stepping up in front of Eckhart, he faked going for the uninjured one, but swung at the injured one instead.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for DMPCing Kassie for me.

As she unsuccessfully tries to deal with the bandit she shouts over her shoulder "Allie! Jalen's hurt! Can you do something to help?"

"Oh...oh no!" Eilidh steps over the body of the downed bandit, being very careful not to step on his limbs, and drops to the ground beside Jalen as an arrow slams into her shoulder. "EEEE!! Ooooh, oooh Goddess, that stings!"

"Goddess, loan me all the sun's warmth you can." Eilidh gingerly places her ankh holy symbol on Jalen's stomach, just above where the blade cut into him, and lets the Dawnflower's energy flow into the injured boy.

attempting to take cover behind the battle lines. My understanding of how healing works is that Jalen is now stable, and may even by above 0, but I'm not certain. Also, if he's already dead, I'll be sad because I could have patched up my own shoulder. Also also, I just read my domain power, and I could have removed sickened... Whoops.

Edit: If we can figure out a way to get Urias into the front lines, we can turn this around easily. I think he's in all his armor.

Round 3
Yes, Eilidh would have soft cover. Also, not sure how that one bandit moved back since he's grappling with Eckart, going to switch his place with Daen. Don't worry about AoO.

Daen's attack barely pushes through the robber's guard, scoring a wound across his neck and dropping him to the ground. He grabs at his wound, gurgling as he slowly starts to bleed out.

Bandit's CMD is 13 due to -4 Dex from grappled condition. Eckart's blow knocks the thug's head back and he curses, reaching for a dagger. As he draws it, Daen drops his friend and he blinks blurry eyes. "Ah, f@~%--D-don't kill me!"

It seems Allie's healing was swift and just in time, bringing Jalen sitting upright with a cough. He raises a hand to his head and smiles sickly at Eilidh. "...good to know a cleric." He was only at -1, luckily the critical hit didn't confirm.

Ardis helps Jalen stand before moving through the line with Urias to confront the two crossbow-wielding thugs. "Two of your friends are dead or dying. Drop your weapons or you'll end up like them."

Further outnumbered and seeing the presumed dead Jalen standing, they drop their weapons and let go of the hooded man.

The stranger, who seemed pleased with seeing two of the robbers fall to the ground bleeding, frowns. "..you're not just going to let them surrender are you? They accosted an innocent man..their blood should join their friends."

"Are...is anyone else hurt badly? If n-not, I w-w-will check those we h-h-hurt." Tears rush from Eilidh's eyes as she secures her scimitar and points her holy symbol at each of the downed bandits, muttering a few words. She touches Kassie on the shoulder and gives Ardis a long, tear-filled hug, burying her face in his shoulder. Both feel their drunken state dissipating. Surveying the battlefield, she feels sick...and strangely elated. We won, and none of us died for it. Now if we can only avoid Fisk finding out...

"S-sir, would you...would you have us k-k-kill these m-men now that they've s-surrendered? I am not one of th-those d-desert worshipers of the Dawnflower, who offers only one ch-chance to her enemies. I see nothing t-to show that these m-men are beyond redem...redemption, and wh-while violence was n-needed to protect you, th-that no longer seems to be t-true. If you w-will stick around, p-perhaps Vigil's g-guards will arrive soon and t-take these evildoers away. You can tell your tale then, and they can face p-proper justice" Eilidh shakes her head, disentangling herself from Ardis and moving to talk to the hooded stranger, but being careful not to let him know what the group knows about him and Fisk's meeting.

Casting Stabilize twice (Eilidh doesn't know that bandit's dead until the spell fizzles), Light once to get a better idea of what can be seen, and using three of my domain power uses to remove the Sickened condition from myself, Kassie, and Ardis. Eilidh has 30 charges on the CLW wand, so if you need it, go ahead and roll your heals (1d8+1) I'll calculate my charges remaining after everyone's had a chance. 0/2 1st level spells left, 2/5 Restorative Touch uses left.

"I'm not sure how the law here works exactly. But is the death penalty deserved so quickly?" Eckart pins the man on the ground as he surrenders and relieves him of any weapons. He says to his friends, "I don't think i'm in the mood for killing anyone today. I mean, we kind of started it first..." Eckart wasn't so sure that they would get back to their quarters anytime soon tonight. "Maybe someone should run back to the Tavern and find Fisk? Or find some guards."

Try to help someone just one time... He hoped they didn't get kicked out for the knights for this. This night has gone so wrong.

Ellie:
Daen will refuse treatment, saying "It will be a better reminder if he has to deal with it himself. No need to dip into resources if we don't have to do so."

Daen addressed Fisk's associate without any cheer in his voice. "If we were in the middle of nowhere, I'd agree with you. But since we're in a lawful city, there's a worse fate for them. They'll have to deal with self-important pompous windbags called lawyers. A fate worse than death for such types, I assure you. Thankfully I've been building up an immunity since birth.

Also, if we get in the habit of killing prisoners, they'd fight to the death, meaning we could have casualties from our own instead of from our more important foes, like orcs, undead and demons. You are free to have your own opinion though, and the capacity to enact it once you stand down five ruffians the next time you flaunt your wealth in front of desperate men."

He turned back to his cohort. "We did good work today. Let's get these brigands to where they belong. Why don't you lead the way?" He said to Jalen. Mostly because he had no idea of where to go from here.

The hooded man shakes his head, making small tsking sounds at the scrubs. "Too lenient..always so lenient." He shrugs, turning on his heel, a smirk on his lips. "Well then, I'll be on my way."

Ardis is wrapping bandages around one of the downed robbers, stemming the flow of blood from his wounds after Ellie has stabilized him. Jalen frowns at Daen. "I don't know, we're in the docks areas..most of the people living here are Oathless and the guards don't usually patrol here. I'm not even sure where the nearest guard post would be. We could take them back to the Bonewatch?"

As the hooded man walks away, Jalen calls out. "Hey! You have to come with us. We need a third-party to vouch for what happened here. I don't want it looking like we randomly spilled someone's blood on Vigil's streets."

The figure waves his hand, not responding verbally and continuing onward. Jalen curses and starts to take a step after him, looking as if he'll go after the man.

"P-please, Jalen, just let him go. I d-don't think you're strong enough to stop...to stop him after your injuries, and we need to figure out what we're d-doing with our...prisoners, I guess. I have no...I have no rope or anything t-to bind them. Does anyone have any ideas? How to secure them, where to take them, anything?"

Eilidh sits down heavily against one of the buildings, shaking hands turning her ankh over and over compulsively. She's wrapped herself tightly in her sky-blue cloak and seems almost ready to go into shock over the sudden bloodshed in the alleyway.

Kassie releases her built-up tension as the combat reaches its conclusion. As her sister slumps against the wall she stumbles over and sits next to her, wrapping her arm protectively around Allie's shoulder. "Allie's right. Just,... just let him go. We can deal with these men ourselves. We need to take them to the guard but, first maybe we should see what they have to say? And,.. I don't know. Maybe we should disarm them and see whether they've got anything that might tell us what they were after,.. who they're working for? I don't think this was just a normal robbery."

Following Kassie's lead, Daen disarms the robbers, also making them turn out their pockets and patting them down for any hidden weapons. He orders them at sword point (after taking a short sword that was laying next to the corpse) to stand in front of the girls. "Answer her question knave! That was too coordinated for a simple robbery."
