DMRaven's The Long Vigil (Inactive)

Game Master DMRaven

The warriors of Vigil have been a beacon for good since the Shining Crusade. Standing against the orc hordes of Belkzen, undead swarms from Gallowspire and the demonic armies of the Worldwound, they are never short of threats to face and always in need of bodies for the fray. The elite Knights of Ozem look for only the most promising of Lastwall's recruits to take into their halls. Do you have what it takes?

He smiles as she approaches, bowing his head. "Then I am pleased I could assist with that. Maria is here, she usually gives the sermons but was kind enough to allow me while I was passing through. I will go get her now..I am not sure I know of this Estella."

Turning, the priest walks to the back of the chapel and moves a curtain aside, knocking on a simple wooden door. The dark-haired, pale-skinned woman appears to be Chelaxian. She has on a white hooded cloak of velvet edged in gold thread over a pale blue kirtle. A gold amulet with the angelic symbol of Sarenrae hangs from her neck.

"Gallmau said you wished to speak with me? Oh..you do not seem familiar, it is nice to see a new face under our roof."

Having waited for as long as he did, he felt a bit embarrassed about what he was about to ask, but he figured that he might as well be bold. "Excuse me sir, I'm looking to procure a scroll of Color Spray for my studies. I've got money enough for the scroll, but I don't know where to get one of the slips, or even if I need one. Could you assist me or send me to the right place?"

Day 13
Characters: Daen

The man shakes his head and reaches under the desk, drawing out a pile of paperwork. "You're a scrub, right? You need to file a BW 4140 point 26 dash T."

He hands over the paper which looks like something out a hellish bureaucracy. Numbers, boxes and lines fill the sheet. After a moment, the man snickers and shakes his head. "You only have to fill out your name, cohort, who trains you and the item you're requesting. Don't worry about box 3 through six, we'll fill those out for inventory management. Boxes seven through ten are for more dangerous materials and section two is for special notes."

The quartermaster nods to few benches and scribbles something on a piece of paper. "I'll fill it out for you and bring you what you want. Current cost of that request is fifteen gold."

Noting the exceptionally complex system and trying to commit it to memory, it was only afterwords that he realized that the man behind the counter was half-joking. He was pleasantly pleased about the price of the scroll, though he'd been expecting at least ten gold more. "Is there a way I can also request some scribing materials? The price was a bit less than I was expecting so I should be able to afford the quills and inks to write it in my book."

Eilidh bows to the priestess before presenting her own holy symbol. "Y-yes, priestess. I w-wanted to meet you, and l-let you know I w-was here. I'm Eilidh, and I'm t-training to be a kn-knight at the B-Bonewatch. I'll t-try to be by every w-week for s-spiritual guidance, if you'll h-have me."

Day 12
Characters: Kassie

Vorin sits on a bench beside the Tilernos girl, sharpening an excellently made aldori dueling sword. The curved blade has writing in old Isildurian along the blade and the basket hilt is made of steel with gold inlay and small red-enamalled rosettes. However, as much as Kassie tries to get him into a conversation, he seems distracted.

Eckart

Spoiler:

You find nothing of interest in the Tilernos girls' belongings. However, Vorin's belongings hold intriguing letters from his uncle. While his father is a Knight of Ozem, his uncle runs the family holdings. They are planning to buy out a series of hills close to Vellumis. The hills aren't worth much, It seems iron was recently discovered there. The iron is still being kept secret and only a few of the land owners know the land is worth anything so the price is very good.

Austyn has sad news in a letter from his father, Pontius Hammel, a Knight of Ozem. His father is going on a journey with Lukyan Durante to retrieve the second part of a “terrifyingly powerful series of artifacts” that are necessary for the Knights of Ozem. He does not know if he will return alive from the expedition.

On a whim, you choose to search Theodric's belongings despite him not being allowed to choose his own number. A signet ring in his clothing shows the family's symbol and may reveal more information with study. Knowledge(nobility) check. If you do not have that skill, you may use the library for a downtime action to make make a check with a +4 bonus.

Berdred's armory, like many blacksmiths, only offers work to its apprentices. Becoming one of her apprentices, of which she currently has seven, is apparently a lengthy affair. However, Eckart does learn that Berdred teaches a blacksmithing class at the Bonewatch every Toilday (second day of the week).

Day 13
Characters: Kassara

The tall boy practices with Kassie. His style not in any way unique, his only movements being what Fisk has taught you. He doesn't seem to have any other combat training. After settling down in exhaustion, he shares that his father is, or was, a soldier but left his mother. He is hoping that he can join the Knights of Ozem to earn prestige and money to give her a good life.

Daen

The clerk frowns, but nods. ”You can request practically anything and obtain a hefty discount, depending on the item of course. Inks, magical ingredients and quills? For that spell..hmn..That'll cost you another eight gold. You can obtain stacks of 4140's over there and can use them for any future requests. We like to be organized, you know?”

Eckart
Don't forget you have 2 downtime actions each free day.

Allie

Maria laughs lightly, her eyebrows rising. ”A Bonewatch trainee here? Why..this is unusual. It is very, very rare for one of their members to worship aside from Iomedae. We would happy to have you under our roof! I must confess, there are not usually many present for my sermons.”

She gestures to a padded pew and nods. ”My acolyte is here, she is in her daily meditations. I shall go get her for you, she should be just finishing up.”

The priest stands awkwardly nearby, hooking a finger into his belt. ”You're a Tilernos, aren't you? I worked with your mother once..before she settled down, that is.”

We will likely be doing that soon, Eilidh.

Day 13

Returning from the quartermasters with your gear in tow, you come across an unfortunate scene. At the top of the stairs stands Leo with his arms crossed. Behind him, you can seem Timon Maquering and Septima Cane both with sly grins on their faces. Behind Daen, he hears footsteps and sees Timon's brother, Marcus Flint and Padraic Collingwood at the bottom of the steps.

Recall that member of cohort two you had spoken to briefly? It seems the long wait in line gave him time to say something to the wrong people.

"Cousin. How fortunate, we were just talking about you."

It seems that there's a bit of a discount on items in the basement, all one has to do is get past the goons.

Hells. Daen took quick stock of the situation: five on one. Whatever they had in mind they'd probably accomplish. Talking his way out of trouble wasn't his forte. With any luck there might be some people around to witness whatever was going to go down. But knowing his cousin, anyone who did would likely forget what happened. A cold knot of fear rooted itself in his stomach, it wasn't hard to see how this would turn out.

Daen put his hands in his pockets and addressed the crowd. "I don't see why you would. One would think that a little nothing like me wouldn't attract your attention since you have your own business to attend to. But then again, no one has ever doubted your sense of charity. How is it that I can repay you?"

Eilidh nods her thanks to Priestess Maria and, on hearing the priest speak, looks at him in confusion. "Y-yes, I am a T-Tilernos, sir. Day 13

Eilidh spends the afternoon tutoring Ardis on divine magic, being tutored by him on arcane magic, and flirting awkwardly with him.

Second action is to study for the arcane magic class.

Oh! Allie halt :D. So, you actually came across one of the hidden benefits of having a Friendly or Helpful NPC. If you choose to spend a downtime action helping an NPC (for example "tutoring Ardis on divine magic," he spends a downtime action to help Allie study. If you take a look at the Daily Actions, studying for a class gives you +2 but aiding another student in studying gives a +4. So Allie gets a +4 for her arcane check this week (Ardis will count as automatically passing his divine check, I don't roll individually for them but instead roll up X number of failures so the cohort will have X - 1 failures this week).

Day 13
Characters: Daen

Yes, roughly a 30% discount but higher on some low-cost consumables. You do, however, have to go through the paperwork to request anything.

Septima snorts and nudges Leo from behind. "Charity. Wow, did you train him to be so respectful?"

The other Surtova grins cruelly, placing a hand on a wooden practice sword at his hip. "Oh, in many ways, Daen. You see, I heard you challenged for first place this week--and scored it. Well..that doesn't look very good to me. I don't want the dear little family bastard to end up looking so..well, effective. You will lose every challenge made against you next week..or I'll help you along on that with a heaping of bruises."

Day 13
Characters: Allie

Dawnflower Chapel:

The priest lets out a laugh and shakes his head. "Oh? What do you think she did as Knight of Ozem? Agreed to man the walls and win a few battles here and there like a good soldier? Your mother was one of the greatest adventurers I've met! We went all the way from Geb to the Land of the Linnorm Kings looking for--" He pauses and shakes his head.

"Well, looking for what is we thought was little more than myth and legend. But we live in mythical times, don't we?"

Ardis's note-taking skills are extraordinary in their disarray. Its amazing he manages to get anything accomplished. Allie finds out that he had no formal education while living in Ustalav and it is only since coming to Lastwall that he's had any sort of learning--and he's only been here for the last two years.

Day 13
Characters: Anyone who spent their second downtime action doing something in the Bonewatch. At the moment this is both Kassie and Eilidh.

Elyssa comes sprinting into Cohort One's dormitory. About half of the cohort is currently there, most of them preparing for supper which is in an hour. The day has mostly wound down.

"Help! I just heard from a scrub in cohort three that Leo's planning to ambush Daen! He only heard it from a second-hand source, so I don't really know where they're planning it--but it sounds like they brought their practice cudgels with them. We've got to find him!"

Daen's fortunate enough to have spent several downtime actions moving Elyssa from Friendly to Helpful.

A few of the cohort members look up, and shrug. "Isn't he number one now?" asks Rans. "He'll be fine."

Elyssa scowls and throws a nearby pillow at the noble, shaking her head. "What, against at least four something other scrubs with weapons? You're a coward, Rans, and you know it!"

It'll take a certain number of successful diplomacy, perception and/or knowledge (local) checks to locate and help Daen. Of course, this assumes the combat even starts. Depending on how well the group going to help him does will show how quickly they arrive and on what round.

At the moment, with just Elyssa searching, she needs to succeed at 9 diplomacy, perception and/or knowledge (local) checks before failing 5 of those checks. If she has five failed checks, she won't arrive in time to help Daen. For each two NPC's or PC's that join the hunt, the number of failures needed before they fail to show up in time to help increases by one. Only Friendly or Helpful NPC's will be willing to help.

Daen was a little stunned at Septima's reply. Either she was oblivious to deadpan sarcasm, or was a far greater practitioner. Before he could recover, he received an ultimatum from his cousin. The magus reflected on it for a half second. It was lucky for him that he thought quickly. It was terribly unlikely that Daen could hold on to first position even if he tried his hardest, that was actually why he was down here in the first place. There was one thing that he was genuinely curious about, and he might as well get the straight answer from him, while he was feeling powerful.

"That seems reasonable, considering the source. Defeating Jalen was a bit of a fluke anyway, but I don't know why it would ruffle your feathers." He shifted his weight, testing his footing. "I've been disinherited by the King. The only one who still even considers us a relation is you. If you claim we're related and I do well, it will reflect well on you. If I do poorly, you can claim that I'm just a family bastard and my downfall will only hurt me. Why go to such lengths when consolidating your own power base would serve you much better?"

Of course Daen understood that giving Leo good advice in front of his subordinates would make him look stupid. It also would make him far less likely to focus on something constructive. What it would do, in the long run is poison his ability to act rationally, and even if Daen went down in a fight or two, Leo would never win out in the long run. It served the pompous a**. Why would a person who aims to be a knight be afraid of a severe beating?

When Elyssa comes rushing in, Kassie looks up from where she's sitting and, at the other girl's words immediately jumps up from her cot. "I've had enough of that little rat-bastard," she says "who's coming to show him that he can't bully a member of our cohort?" Without pausing to put on her armour she runs over to Elyssa. "OK, so we need to find out where its happening and weapons, we need weapons! I'll go down to the practice-yard and start asking around,.. we might be able to get practice swords there as well."

With that she runs down to the yard and starts asking whoever's around what they've heard.

Dawnflower Chapel:

With a laugh, the large man runs a hand over his shaved pate. "Of course they are! Mendev has started another crusade and is even pushing back the demon hordes! There was that snafu in Brevoy just a couple of years ago.."

He moves, sitting on a padded pew. "Your mother's always been fairly dedicated to the Inheritor." Before he can say more, and it seems he is willing to, Maria re-enters with Estella on her heels.

"I hope you aren't filling her head with stories!" Maria exclaims.

The red-headed halfling waves shyly at Eilidh and signs something to Maria, who nods.

Day 13
Characters: Allie, Kassie and company.
Ardis grabs a wooden practice sword from Fisk's class, not bothering to pull on his leathers. He nods sharply to Allie. "Daen was nice enough to me when we went out last week..you can count on me. Should we split up?"

While Ardis is the only one who makes a move after Allie or Elyssa say a word, Kassie's anger seems to rouse a few more hands. Her efforts at making friends with the cohort have been fairly successful.

Adir and Cilys both spring up and nod at the girl. "You're right. It shouldn't matter who your family is, it's quite enough of that." Neither have weaponry nearby and will join Kassie on checking out the practice yard first.

Jalen is no where to be found.

With Elyssa, Adir, Ardis and Cilys helping, the two Tilernos have a bit more leeway. Fortunately, many of the scrubs are good at something.

Once reaching the practice yard, Kassie focuses on asking the other cohorts around what they've seen. Adir splits off and goes hunting on his own, using his keen eyes. Cilys, having been slightly fascinated with the Bonewatch, goes to check out any locations she thinks may be useful. Ardis and Elyssa put their heads together and split up to ask questions.

Unfortunately, Kassara's round of interrogations in the training yard don't yield any noticeable results. 1 fail, 7 remaining. The number of failures the party has indicates which round they will show up.

Allie and Kassie can each make 2 Perception, Knowledge (Local) or Diplomacy checks.

Eilidh thinks for a moment before checking near the library and Magister Dazen's, two places she's seen Daen before.

Day 13
Characters: Daen

Sense Motive DC 13:

Septima has the same dry, lack of wit that Leo has. Possibly a trait of most spoiled nobles.

Leo is silent for a moment, his face slowly growing into a glower at Daen's words. "Nothing you do well could reflect well on me. I simply want to see you fail." He draws the weapon at his side and growls. "You need to be taught a lesson anyway."

What drives individuals like Leo to taunt those who have done them no harm? Perhaps his parents didn't show him enough love as a child? Perhaps he was beaten for failure and wants to see others feel the fear he always holds in his heart. Whatever the reason, it doesn't seem it would help Daen in any case. Septima lets out a cruel laugh and draws her weapon as well--her, at least, Daen can easily figure out. A spoiled brat who simply delights in causing others harm..its a wonder she was selected to join the Bonewatch's scrubs.

The brothers, Timon and Braxton, are a little dull. They aren't bright, shining stars of intellect but they do know how to fight well. In any other cohort, with any other strong-willed individual, they'd be perfectly acceptable soldiers. However, with their loyalty being paid to someone like Leo, they're little more than brute thugs.

Padraic is the peculiar case. He looks reluctant and waits at the bottom of the stairs, looking anxiously over his shoulder rather than showing any desire to participate.

Finally, Marcus, Leo's second hand, is surprisingly frowning. Perhaps his idea of fun involves a competition that's slightly more difficult than a five on one.

I know you're Estella, and you're an acolyte here. Do you have anyone else? Friends or family? What do you do when you're not being an acolyte?" Being that he didn't have a weapon on him, it came down to fists again. The magus sighed at the obtuseness of his cousin. He was beginning to think that if he had any chance at all of making something of himself, he'd have his elven father to thank. And that soured his disposition quite nicely.

He thought about casting his shield spell for defense, but really his best option was to try to finish this quickly. There was no way he'd be able to beat them all, but if he could lay out Leo, the rest might back off. "I'll do just that." He said through gritted teeth. At least he wouldn't be the only on hurting.

Round 1
Daen steps forward, tired of hearing the same sad taunts from Leo. He plants his fist straight into the other boy's stomach and he steps back up a stair, his breath forcefully expelled.

The half-elf hears the sound of running footsteps on the floor above and can only hope it is help and not more of Leo's companions.

Round 2

Leo and Septima move together, lashing out with the wooden sticks.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 = 21 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 nonlethal damage.

Attack (Septima): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 nonlethal damage.

Daen manages to grab Septima's blade with his hand, absorbing the blow even as Leo's crashes into his shoulder. he knows he's in trouble as his vision darkens and the other two close in behind him.

Attack (Braxton): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 nonlethal damage.
Attack (Flint): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 damage. Flint doesn't bother with a weapon and just lashes out, punching toward the magus's side. Daen turns, releasing Septima's blade and pushing Flint back with a kick only to have the Marquering brother slam his club into is leg. Daen's movement and his armor is fortunate enough to deflect the brunt of the blow.

Cohort one rushes forward. "You're going to get it now, Leo!" calls out Elyssa. She grins at Kassara, obviously more interested into getting into a massive brawl than she is worried about Daen's safety.

Ardis shakes his head and runs after the others. "They won't do anything too bad, will they?"

Kassie and Allie can roll initiatives, but they'll likely just spend this round moving forward with the rest.

Daen's head was spinning a bit from the beating it took from the practice sword. He really couldn't take another hit like that. And on top of it all, he was hearing voices. He couldn't help but attempt to turtle up against the whole thing.

Total Defense. +4 to AC. That's up to 21 AC until next round.I knew I should have cast shield instead.

Kassie runs forward to the top of the stairs with the rest of the cohort, shooting a quick wink back at Elyssa, and quickly surveys the scene below. "Surtova!" she shouts, "You little rat-coward! Should have known that you wouldn't have the guts to fight him by yourself! Well maybe we should even things up a bit!"

Eilidh reacts more slowly to the sounds of fighting, bringing up the rear.

Round 3

Spoiler:

Whogoesfirst: 1d2 ⇒ 1

The swarm of cohort one scrubs floods down the stairs. Adir leads the way, slugging Timon in the face just as the boy turns. Ardis lunges toward Septima and pushes past her, sliding around to stand next to Daen and try to give him some breathing room.

"Allie said you m-might need a bit of help..." He smiles weakly, putting his fists up.

Elyssa stops at the top of the stairs and frowns, looking down at the mess of bodies and weapons. She looks around and then darts back up the steps, grabbing one of the tapestries on the wall and pulling the long pole that held it up out. "Aha!" Improvised reach weapon.

Cilys laughs and follows suite. "Should have gotten a practice spear from the yard.."

Round 3
For NPC on NPC rolls, I find it a lot easier to just roll a d20 and a d6 together on my desk..if the hidden rolls are annoying, let me know and I'll switch to typing it all out. Seems my die rolls a lot more 10-12's than the random dice roller does too :D

Adir's punch staggers Timon, who retaliates with a roar, tackling the larger scrub. The two crash to the staircase, wrestling with one another.

Septima turns her attention to Ardis as he moves past her. "Wha- Hey!" She scowls, swinging her sword at him, smacking him in the chest with the point. She moves like a fencer, very similar to Kassara.

Leo, however, doesn't lose focus. "Your friends are here.." He, surprisingly, grins. "Well, this will be more fun then. Let's see if we can beat down you and your cohort!" He presses his attack on Daen, lunging forward. Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 14 for Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.

Marcus emulates his leader, attacking Daen from the side while he is distracted with Leo. Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14 for Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8.

Braxton, flanking with Septima, throws himself at Ardis. A wild roundhouse kick pushes Ardis back into the wall with a gasp of pain.

Glancing at Daen, Ardis growls. "..Maybe this wasn't the best idea."

Kassie lunges down the steps behind Ardis, her practice sword held lightly in her hand, confronts Septima. With a quick jump down the last two steps she uses her momentum to aim a blow at the stuck-up girl's ribs as she glances at Ardis. "What do you mean? This is fun!

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 26 (flanking & higher ground)

If she attacks back:

Opportune Parry and Riposte:

Round 3
Parry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Kassie leaps down the stairs and lunges at Septima. The other girl turns, attempting to deflect the attack but fails miserably. Kassie's weapon moves past the other noble's guard and cracks against her ribs. Septima cries out and leans back against the wall, cursing.
"Ack! Damn! I give!"
Reduced to 0 in one blow, Septima is disabled.

Recognizing her sister's desire to duel with Septima, Eilidh moves closer to the fighting. She waves her hands around while holding her holy symbol and muttering nonsense, and things happen to the target of her spell.

Specifically, the one I drew the red line to. I'm not sure who's who among the enemy team (or ours, really). Would it be possible for you to copy their pictures and put them next to their names? Also, Daze prevents actions next round, Will (DC 12) negates. I need to do something about that DC...

That's Marcus. And no worries, it should be a chaotic scramble with people falling down stairs, moving past each other, etc! Or at least that was what I was trying to emulate with the cluster of random different icons in the middle of the stairwell..However putting the icons next to the names is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that..Consider it done!

Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Marcus grabs his head and stumbles backward, almost falling down the stairs. He lets out a long groan, retching as if drunk.

As his head started to clear, realizing that Ardis was next to him cheered him up immensely, but he didn't really want to admit that. Instead, he said "If you can keep the rest off of me, Leo asked for a demonstration and I certainly mean to oblige."

Taking a step up the stairs and getting underneath and inside Leo's guard with the weapon, he swung a vicious uppercut at the Surtovan's face, but his face was so far from Daen's feet that his fist had already begun to slow down when it got close, lacking the force of his earlier punch.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Round 3
Leo blocks Daen's strike with his blade, enough to deflect most of the force as the strike hits him on the chin.

Round 4

Adir struggles to get the upper hand in his wrestling match with Timon but fails to do so, only receiving an elbow in the face from the other scrub.

Ardis swings at Braxton with too much force, overstepping himself and leaving himself vulnerable to a counter-attack. Fortunately, as Braxton strikes forward with his weapon, Ardis blocks it on his arm but his own strike misses completely.

Cilys and Elyssa move forward with their improvised spears, jabbing the blunt ends over their companions' shoulders. However, the mass of cohorts struggling against each other only leads to them flailing wildly and ineffectually.

Marcus struggles to recover from Allie's divine will while Leo continues fighting Daen. Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8 for Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8. It seems the arrival of Cilys and Elyssa behind him jabbing at him with wooden poles has distracted him, though, and Daen easily blocks the sword and knocks it into the wall.

Party up. Not a very effective round for either side this time.

His head began to really clear now as he fell into his martial state of mind. His cousin was attacking wildly, obviously emotionally charged, and therefore lacking in technique. With Leo's blade against the wall because of the defensive block, Daen Kicks at Leo's knee to set him up as he brings a ridge hand across and hits him in the ribs under his sword arm. "Have you seen enough of my progress yet?"

Brawler's flurry. Is there any chance I'm getting a flanking bonus from the ladies' long poles?

Nope, neither have a way of gaining/granting flanking with a reach weapon.

Having prepared for Daen's attack, although not the flurry, Leo tries to deflect the first attack. parry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 However, Daen keeps the weapon against the wall and scores a kick to Leo's knee, nearly dropping him backwards.

Daen's cousin frowns, body bruised, and starts looking around for a way to disengage from the battle.

Having messed up one of Daen's flankers, Eilidh decides to try the same trick on Leo. "D-drop your weapons, Cohort Two. Y-you're out matched now."

Same thing as last time. DC 12 Will negates.

Dawnflower Chapel:

Ack! I thought I was waiting on you to respond. Just noticed you had posted.

The girl sits down and looks over the pieces of paper, she smiles and looks up, scrawling in a neat, but quick, script. "No, just Priestess Maria. I was an orphan but was caught for stealing. She sought to redeem me. I think it worked." The red-headed girl looks up with a sly grin on her lips.
"I read at the library and clean here. I find it hard to speak to people outside of Church. The Knights of Ozem worship the Lady of Valor? Why don't you as well?"

Estella's writing is punctuated by short, simple sentences. She lacks the flowing, elegant style that nobles and many educated clergy have.

Kassie turns away from Septima towards Timon and thrusts her sword at him. "Don't make me beat you again Leo." she yells, "Your pets aren't good enough to cause us any problems."

Almost forgot:

If she gets attacked:

Opportune Parry and Riposte:
Parry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 (+ modifiers if flanking &/or higher ground)
if better than attacker's roll successfully parries and gets an immediate attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 (+ modifiers if flanking &/or higher ground)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Kassie's jab emits a grunt from Timon, who continues rolling around on the ground trying to get an arm around Adir's neck.

Seeing that the fight is not going their way, with them outnumbered and two of their number almost out of the fight, Leo curses and throws down his weapon. "Alright, alright! It was just a bit of fun..not like we would have hurt him bad."

His snarky grin snaps back on and he winks at Daen through a black eye, although looks wary of the magus hitting him again.

Septima has an angry look on her face and stays quiet. Marcus actually looks disappointed. "...but it was just starting to get fun.."

Adir lets Timon go, pushing off a stair to his feet. Marcus and Braxton both start to disengage from Daen and Ardis.

Ardis wipes a hand across his face, breathing hard. "..how many times are you going to scuffle with these guys, Daen?"

The half elf placed his hand on the spot where he was hit with Leo's practice sword, flinching at the pain. That bump that was rising on his head was no joke. "I suppose as many times as Leo would like, Ardis. Surtovans are like that. Their family motto is 'Ours is the Right", so if it weren't me he was targeting, it'd be someone else. Make no mistake." Of course he deliberately said it in front of his cousin. At this point it was unlikely Leo would let up until Daen was drummed out of the knights or dead, most likely. His only hope was to get strong enough to fend of the attacks, something his training here was helping him accomplish.

Of course, he was also grateful to his cohort for coming, it was definitely a mark in his favor and one that would cause Leo to be more careful about his assault. Once he got to speak to them separately, and Leo's gang backed off, he gave them sincere thanks, albeit with his trademark blank expression. "I really appreciate you coming to help. Every one of you. I'd be happy to return the favor for each of you, although it might take a while for me to get to everyone."

Individually, Daen will tell people about the extra classes who might not know as of yet, and for those who already know, he'll help them study for one of the required classes. With his job and extra classwork and other commitments it may not be next week, but he'll be willing to spend up to a downtime session helping or doing favors for everyone who came. You have the right to refuse of course, but he'll probably try to find a way to make it up to you anyway.
