Muttering, Seren walks over to the window as Melianthe sets up her periscope. At first, they see nothing out of the ordinarly, until the loud crack of a snapping board draws their eyes to a shadow along the building wall, just over forty feet away.

There, a beautiful young woman with short-cropped blonde hair snaps her head around to spot you in the window. She gasps, then turns and flees across the tangled Shingles rooftops.

Alternatively, could Cherias descend to street level and follow the chase from the ground? I mean, dashing and leaping across rooftops is NOT the best place for a differently-abled young man to be.

Edit: OK Cherias will follow slowly, taking his time with each obstacle to try to keep the rest of the team in sight. Do we need to do this in initiative order?

DM, don't forget that Absinthe asked to be DMPC'd.

Cherias will slowly pick his way across the rooftop (taking 10 on Acrobatics as a full-round action), looking back to make sure everyone is safe.

We'll pick up the 'new' rule starting on round 2.

The Shingle Chase, Round One
Initiative Order: Cherias, Melianthe, Seren, Trinia, Absinthe, Segang

Trinia continues ducking and weaving along the rooftops, not even looking back as you call for her to stop.

Cherias starts out slow and steady, while Melianthe crosses the cluttered rooftop without much trouble. Seren, a few steps behind, stumbles and slows up, causing Absinthe to collide with him from behind. Segang keeps up the pace, hopping nimbly past the two.

Trinia makes a running leap, crossing a wide gap before making a glance backwards. She frowns and continues to run.

I think we are on Round 2 of the chase now?

Cherias mumbles a soft prayer and touches Segang's hand, whispering, "For good fortune." Casting Guidance on Segang.

He will then look around for a way to advance Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 and points it out to Segang. Aid another with perception.

Segang, with the increase to Dex that controlled rage gives you, you have a decent chance of catching up to her.

Ok, under the new rules for round two, but using my old first roll.

Was thinking about using controlled rage but then forgot all about it when rolling - Thanks Cherias! Not sure I can make both rolls for round 2, even with you assists.

Segang initially struggles with how to move forward. Hew does not think he can male it over the tight rope but then Cherias points out another way to move forward and he takes it. He then uses his standard move to move across the crumbling rooftop.

So having succeeded once, he can use a standard or move to move one more, right?

I think is a fabrication of the game mechanics. If I use a move action to drop the backpack I have a standard left. I can use it to advance one card without rolling, right? Or I can roll and try to advance one card (which I did). So if that is right my question was "Is there any point to trying to beat a challenge?" If I take the auto success I get as far as if I roll and risk failure. right?

Obviously the dice roller hates us. Segang, if you make the roll, you advance two cards, rather than just one. If you make both rolls, you advance 3.

Is Melianthe within 30 feet, or will she be if she gets to 6 or 7?

Finally, if I make a successful roll and move ahead 2, can I cast Guidance on Melianthe 'on the way' so to speak? Or would I have to just move one and then cast it on her?

If I can cast Guidance on Melianthe and move two cards with a successful check:
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Cherias notices another hidden shortcut and moves ahead, pausing to cast Guidance on Melianthe again.

If I cannot cast guidance and also move two cards:
Cherias moves slowly and steadily across the rooftops, catching up to Melianthe just before she moves, and casts Guidance on her.

Melianthe, if you take 10 on Climb, even with a -1 penalty to STR, you should be able to make a DC 10 with the +1 from Guidance.

Segang went from 2 to 4. You have to make the roll(s) against the card you are starting on. Dropping the backpack is a move-equivalent action... not sure what you mean by rolling on that.
I think is a fabrication of the game mechanics. If I use a move action to drop the backpack I have a standard left. I can use it to advance one card without rolling, right? Or I can roll and try to advance one card (which I did). So if that is right my question was "Is there any point to trying to beat a challenge?" If I take the auto success I get as far as if I roll and risk failure. right?

In that specific case, yes... Move = free card; Std = additional card.

Is Melianthe within 30 feet, or will she be if she gets to 6 or 7?

Finally, if I make a successful roll and move ahead 2, can I cast Guidance on Melianthe 'on the way' so to speak? Or would I have to just move one and then cast it on her?

Each card is an abstract 30 ft estimated. Making a roll is a standard action. You can't make 2 standard actions in a round.

M Idyllkin (Agathion-blooded Aasimar) Oracle 6 | HP 30/60 | AC 19 T 14 FF 17 | Ft +4 / Rf +4 / Wl +4 | Init +2 | Per. +8 (+2 in dim light) | Channel 3/5 | Energy body 1/6 | Spells 7/7 6/6 3/4

OK, disregard the first spoiler, then, and I take the actions detailed in the second spoiler.

Female Tiefling Rogue 8 / Brawler 2; Init +5; Senses Darkvision 60 ft, Perception +12; AC 25 (+5 Dex., +4 armour, +1 Dodge, +1 Ring of Protection, +4 Shield); AC +1 vs. traps; hp 88; Fort +7; Ref +14; Will +2

Perception for shortcuts: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19. Acrobatics to move: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23.

Absinthe's eyes suddenly narrow, and she starts clambering and leaping from shingle to shingle, moving closer to the fleeing Trinia.

Seren moves more cautiously this time and then tries a different tact, casting a silent image of two hellknights stepping out in front of the fleeing girl, blocking her route.
