Aneira takes a 5 ft step to M:6 and fires her crossbow at the giant weasel.

Attack with light crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 4 - 4 = -4 (-4 for wind, -4 for firing into melee)
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 1

and the bolt goes truly awry and falls far short of the creature, leaving Aneira frustrated and annoyed.

Beck as there are trees there no but I had her move to the opposite side of Xanxan to be in melee range next time.

Just waiting on Venja's action for this round, but will go ahead as I doubt she will kill it off unless it is a crit with max damage and some witchery going on. Venja just make 2 rounds of actions.

Due to its large size, Gabe I am only giving it partial cover on ranged attack.

GM stuff (this is ridiculous how low I roll as a GM I am not even spoilering it anymore)
3d20 ⇒ (9, 9, 8) = 26+6 each
1d8 + 1d4 + 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (5) + (3) + (1) + 4 = 13
2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 +4 each

Gabe and Aneira both fire at the large weasel but Aneira has trouble even aiming in the right direction. Gabe's shot would have hit were it not for Beck and Variel in his way.

Xanxan tries to stab at it but too much energy was put into his retort than into his swing and the blow goes wide. Beck fares a bit better and manages to strike the front paw smashing it with his club.

Targeting Variel as he did the most damage, the weasel full attacks with a bite and two claw rakes. The pain in its shoulder and front paw are too much as all three blows miss their mark.

Good guys up

Venja, how are you moving and loading a bolt in the same round and then shooting at the weasel? That's two move actions and a standard?

I think it was th fact that I indicated that her last round she was unable to shoot. Therefore her crossbow is loaded at the start of last turn. So she moved and shot, this round she reloads and still has a standard left.

Round 1 Recap

Beck and Sheelah manage to hit the weasel dong decent damage but not able to drop the creature. Variel and Xanxan likewise attack but fail to hit. GAbe, Aneira and Venja all fire but the combination of wind, melee, and cover thwarts their efforts.

The weasel attempts to swing at Beck who hit last but cant seem to find his way around the armor that the druid wears.

Round 2

Unable to draw any closer to the weasel (and frankly not wanting to either), Aneira tries one last time to hit the creature with her light crossbow, praying to find a way past the wind, melee and cover that have been hindering her attempts thus far.

She takes a 5ft step (free action) to N:6 and loads a bolt (move action), firing it at the weasel (standard action).

Attack with light crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 4 - 4 = 3
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 3

Her aim was not as horrific as the last two but still, all the factors continued to hinder her from hitting her quarry and once more her bolt failed.

What is up with these continued low rolls? Unbelievable.

Gabryjel will shoot at the creature.

Given the fact that it is still snowing, he doesn't expect to hit, but he'll try...

Crying out in a rage the weasel lashes back at Xanxan who nimble dodges both teeth and a claw only to jump into the pathway of the last claw, Almost enough to disembowel the poor gnome, Xanxan is saved by the Yeti cloak he wears granting him a hardened skin. The pain is great and the damage is costly but it could have been much worse. 6 damage Xanxan

Anee: Thank you for the concern Anee but it missed me completely. If Beck and Xanxan were hit then it is their call as I don't know the severity of their wounds. I would trust your judgement in those matters. To mean they are both still standing so that is a good sign to me.

Xanxan: It was too close to tell from here as I was too busy lamenting my failed attacks. Agree though that it is good that you both hit and removed the threat. Thanks to both of you for covering for my failures. Hopefully I will do better in the future.

Gabryjel says nothing as he moves slowly to the fallen creature.

He slings his bow and draws a dagger and deliberately cuts the beast’s throat, making sure it is dead.

His eyes are remorseless; but they are bereft on any joy from the killing.

There was no glory in it; no honor, no excitement – in the end it was a just another chore that needed to be done.

As he stoops over the snow to search for his arrows he looks over at Beck and Xanxan.

”I don’t care who did the job on this thing in the end; but you both did damn fine to me,” he says to the two of them with a nod.

He glances over at Variel as he searches briefly for any more arrows in the snow.

”Don’t blame yourself Whitestorm; you did a hell of a lot better than I did. Hell, I reckon over half of my shots would have hit it, too; if it weren’t for the gods damned snow.”

GM – how many arrows did I find?

Once he is done gathering what arrows he can, he stands up.

”We good to go? Snow’s still falling and Sheelah don’t got no snowshoes. She’ll be up to her shoulders in it pretty fast, if she ain’t already,” he says.

”In other words; if we got somewhere to go – let’s leg it, eh?” he adds, eager to get going to avoid the weather.

When Variel answers, telling her he is uninjured, Aneira nods at her husband and moves to Beck and Xan and examines their wounds to determine the severity of them and treat them before any magical healing is provided (if they so choose it). (She is using her original healer's kit (with 4 uses remaining) in conjunction with her surgeon's tools -- giving her a +3 to the check.)

Heal check on Beck: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 3 = 19
Heal check on Xan: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 3 = 26

Later, she will search out her 4 wayward bolts in hopes she finds them and they are still intact.

Perception to locate her bolts: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

For finding missed arrows and bolts just roll that amount and that is how many you found. S if you missed 7 times just roll a d7.

From what I saw Gabe you missed 5 times so you find 1d5 ⇒ 2 arrows back.

"I have some experience with skinning. I could be of aid to Beck, or Gabe, if they would undertake the task."

Survival, to aid, re the skinning of the weasel (DC 20): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Who has the highest Survival skill? I think it's Beck with +11/12. Gabe and I both have +6 to Survival.

Gabryjel looks at Xanxan for a moment, seeing that the gnome's healed.

"You look beautiful, boss," he says to Xanxan with a crooked grin.

He hears the suggestions of skinning the weasel and listens to it, despite his earlier words.

Gabryjel's eyes look to the sky and his eyes darken at the snowfall.

"Yeah, I could skin it - but I ain't going to," he says with a flat voice.

He jerks his thumb at the sky bluntly.

"Snow's still falling. And that ain't just snow - it's magic snow."

"It effects things bad - including a gods damned arrow. It means that my chances of hitting a gods damned big rat like this are busted down to nearly never," he adds with a dry voice.

"But even if it were normal snow, it don't matter."

"We started this thing today and there weren't about two feet on the ground. By the end of the day I reckon there could be maybe at least three feet, maybe even six feet," he adds.

"Three feet means Sheelah's swimming in it; and if it's more she'll be under it. And like I said earlier - she don't got snowshoes."

"But anyhow, never mind the snow - we got a thing to do. You skin a thing like that it'd take a good while, I reckon."

He shakes his head and sighs a bit, putting the arrows in his quiver, trying not to be as curt with his companions as he was coming off.

"We don't got time for that; that's all I'm trying to say," he adds eventually, trying to be a little nicer in his tone, but the frustration of the situation clearly effecting him still.

He looks at Xanxan as he starts to move forward to the trail ahead.

"Anyhow, what's the point, eh? You need animal skins for stitching, I got a bunch in my pack; if you really need 'em."

Not sure if the snow is considered "regular" or "heavy". Heavy is 1d4 feet a day. Regular is only 1d6 inches. But at this point I'm guessing it's pretty bad if it reduces the chance to hit an enemy by -4.

Also, I don't think that we can use Survival to take the skin off an animal to create a cape or jacket any more than we can use the Survival skill to get feathers from a bird to build arrows. I had asked the GM earlier if we could get supplies from animals to craft things and told me that was not possible because that's not formally part of the rules.

I may be wrong on this, though. If the GM is now formally allowing us to use Survival to get crafting supplies from an animal than I'm down obviously down with it and happy to help. It's just different from what he told me earlier; that's all. Also, I don't know how long it would take to skin the weasel; that would also effect Gabryjel's answer, though.

Gabryjel gives a backward glance to Xanxan as he continues to trudge forward.

”Yeah, I’m a regular basterd,” he says with a small smile.

Pausing, he suddenly remembers that Xanxan is supposed to be up front, not him.

”Now come on, boss – ain’t you the pointman here?” he says gesturing ahead to the trail, but his tone is more congenial.

Gabryjel will fall in to his usual place in marching order; provided the rest of the party is ready to head out.

Aneira Whitestorm wrote:

Thanks, Aneira. I had already seen that post earlier but I was pretty confused at it and was just looking for more specific clarification from the GM about it.

Earlier I had asked him if we could get crafting supplies from the wild (such as wood for arrow shafts; bone or stone arrow heads; and feathers from birds to craft arrows). He told me I was not allowed to do that. Now it seems that he is allowing us to get supplies from the wild. I'm happy this is happening, but I just wanted to get some follow-up questions answered:

Is he formally changing his mind about his previous ruling now for everyone about getting crafting supplies from the wild at this point?

If he is formally changing his mind and allowing people to do that; is the standard DC automatically a Survival 20 (if it is, I would have taken another rank in Survival when last we leveled, but I didn’t). Finally (and most importantly in this case): how long would it take to skin the animal?

Regarding the time issue: I know how long it takes to skin a rabbit, I don’t know how long it takes to skin a Large Sized weasel. But given the snowfall, I don’t want to wait to skin an animal; especially as we all have warm weather gear and I have extra furs besides if we really needed to craft things with fur.

"It's mightly cold out, Xan, an not all o' us gots such a fyne coat like yers. So I'd honest rather keep us movin along an try find that portal afore it gets dark." Beck suggests. "Plus, the thing'll be frozed up nice and be preserved for us as we head back. We ken do it then."

As this is being discussed, SHeelah finds an open wound in the large rodent and makes a meal for herself. Not the prettiest sight, but the natural way of things... Lets me save one of my carnivore rations?

Male Gnome Rogue-4 (Saves-F+2,R+8,W+1; Perception +9(10 vs traps);HP 21/27)

Xanxan nods with a sigh, "Oh fair enough, I just hope some other wandering tailor with skinning knowledge doesn't steal it," He acts as if wandering scavenging tailors might not be so rare.

And when the others are ready, he takes the lead sneaking ahead.
Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 +1 vs traps

AC 14; HP 14/14; Saves: F +2, R +3, W +5/+7; Melee 1, Ranged 2; CMB 1, CMD 12; Speed 30; Init +3; Perc +5 Half-Elf Female Winter Oracle/2

Aneira gently lays her hand on the wounded Druid and begins speaking the ancient healing words. A white light moves from her hand into Beck attempting to knit his wounds closed.

CLW on Beck: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

That brings Beck's hp to 13/15. Aneira now has 2 first level spells remaining for the day.

As Gabryjel offers his opinions on the weasel, he hears the threads of Xanxan's comments about the skin.

Gabryjel rubs the bridge of his noes between his thumb and forefinger, and sighs a little himself.

"Well, I reckon if one does, we'll just take it back," Gabryjel says with a flat voice, but at this point his eyes are smiling at little at their redoubtable scout's plucky enthusiasm which seem to buoy even his own normally grim spirits.

As the party moves forward, he hears Beck asking for a modest amount of healing before heading out.

He pauses a moment and sees that Aneira moves to him and heals him a bit.

Nodding in satisfaction at her work; he smiles a little outright, glad to see that his comrades are healed.

That said, he follows the others at a modest distance in his usual place.

I think that Venja didn't get hit; but if she did, we could probably ret-con heal her if necessary.
