Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

The combined damage of all the shots, plus Flynn jabbing his pistol into the creatures mouth and near blowing it in half, drops the creature and it drifts motionless in the current.

At the same time, an enormous shark comes swimming up out from behind the ship and begins to circle you all.

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

6d20 ⇒ (14, 12, 1, 17, 20, 16) = 80

You all, except Flynn (i rolled a 1 for you), notice that the shark is actually another illusion.

At the same time, another one of those horrific fish like creatures with the three eyes comes from the lowest level of the ship and begins to attack.

Initiative, 2d20 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 The creature goes first.

-----------------------------------------

The aboleth swims out of the lowest and darkest level of the hold and lashes out with a tentacle at Dhaavan.

Tentacle attack vs flat footed AC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 181d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 HIT for 9 damage. I need a Fort save from Dhaavan as the viscous slime clings to your body.

You all are up! BTW, any minute per level spells that were cast are up by now.

Male Elf Paladin-3

"Oh for the love o..." Adular's spiritual weapon lashes forward to strike at the Aboleth.

Minute level spells since the attack on Ana or beforehand? Shield and mirror image will be down but wondering about bear's endurance.

Realizing half of his defenses just disappeared Variel chooses to protect himself for thmoent before engaging the creature. The shark he saw as an illusion so that did not bother him at all.

Swift action to spell recall mirror image and standard to cast it
Mirror images 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Swim 30ft towards the Aboleth to attack next time.

Thanks for the healing Adular.

Will summarize status once a I know about bear's endurance and touch of the sea from attacking Ana.

As the illusion was revealed, Rain called out to her allies, lest not all could discern the trickery, "The shark is an illusion. Ignore it." (Free action. Flynn, you should be able to hear Rain's revelation.)

Rain swims forward 5ft (to F:18) and with both hands around the extended pike, thrusts viciously at the Aboleth.

Two-Handed Mythic Power attack plus Overflowing Grace: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 23
Damage, if hits: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Immortal, is Ana's most recent spell (Freedom of Movement) on Rain expired now, too? It had 10 minutes/level, so I think it should still be fine?

Current Status:

Current Status: Full HP 63/63, Animal Focus-2 min duration expired, Level 1 Hunter spell: Monkey Fish used/expired, 1 CLW spell on snake, New Level 1 Monkey Fish spell cast - 4 minute duration/expired. Freedom of Movement (cast by Ana on Rain), Overflowing Grace activated by Adular: Creatures at full HP affected by your channel gain +1 sacred bonus to atk, skills, abil checks, saves, for 1 min.

Botting Dhaavan

Dhaavan's Fort save with Surge: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (15) + 6 + (2) = 23

Dhaavan swam back 5ft, and, in their native tongue, Dhaavan ordered the fiendish dolphins to attack the Aboleth. (Free action)

Again, he began to cast, and a new ball of snow and ice appeared in his hand. He hurled it at the Aboleth. (40 ft range)

Ranged Touch Attack with Snowball: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage, if hits: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 1, 1) = 18

On a successful hit, the target must make a successful Fortitude saving throw (DC 17) or be staggered for 1 round.

Dhaavan's at full hp as he suffered 9 damage and then Adular healed for 14.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

If the summoned fiendish dolphins haven't returned to their own plane...They're still on the map, so I think they're fine to go.

Botting Dolphins

Dolphin, closest to Aboleth, Slam Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage, if hits: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Dolphin 2 swum fast (to A:18) and in flanking position with Variel, attacked the creature.

Dolphin 2 Slam Attack, with flanking: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13
Damage, if hits: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Dolphin 3 swam fast (to C:18) and got in position to flank with Dolphin 1 and attacked.

Dolphin 3 Slam Attack, with flanking: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15
Damage, if hits: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

If any of the dolphins are at full HP, I believe they get the +1 sacred bonus to attack from Adular? I'm not sure their HP status - sorry.

GM - in that case could I get a coordinate on the location of the shark swimming around on the map so I know how to proceed? Thank you!

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

Flynn you get a new save sure too train starting is an illusion with a +4 bonus.

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

just realized that sentence made no sense lol. It should have said, Flynn you get a new save due to Rain stating that the Shark is an illusion, with a +4 bonus.

Male Human Guns. 1 (Mysterious Stranger), Fighter 1 (Lore Warden), Bard 6 (Archaeologist) - Barbarian 1 (Urban) Mythic (Champion) (AC 20 / HP 82 / F +9, R + 10, W +7 / Ini + 3 / Perc. +16)

Willpower save -
1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 4 = 24

Assuming this saves -

Horatio, not pleased at the illusion, will take matters to rectify things -

Using Archeologist's Luck, he also snaps on Rage (cat's grace is off); meantime, he will then draw his second pistol in his off hand and fire two shots, and also his extra shot as part of a full attack (all penalties/bonuses are factored in) -

Attack 1
1d20 + 6 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 19

If it hits -
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 10

Plus Flaming
1d6 ⇒ 2

Attack 2 (other hand)
1d20 + 6 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 25

If it hits
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 9

second attack)
1d20 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 13

If it hits
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 8

Plus Flaming
1d6 ⇒ 3

EDIT: If Touch AC is 19 or higher that should do 19 Damage +2 Fire. If it's 13 or higher that's 27 Damage +5 Fire

Horatio, you hit with both shots. The aboleth is still very much alive.

Botting Jiro

Still in his camouflaged form, Jiro makes a keen acrobatic tumble/swim maneuver to position himself/get closer to the Aboleth without being struck by its tentacles as he swam.

Acrobatics to move through threatened squares to A:22,+1 sacred bonus from Adular: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 20 + 1 = 37

Fighting Defensively, Sneak Attack with +1 rapier/Brine's Sting with flank and overflowing grace: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 2 + 1 - 4 = 11
Damage, if hits: 1d6 + 6 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (5, 3, 6) = 21

Using 1 Mythic Point/5 to make another melee attack (as a swift action, via Surprise Strike from Mythic Trickster.)

Surprise Strike:

Surprise Strike (Ex): As a swift action, you can expend one use of mythic power to make a melee attack or ranged
attack against a target within 30 feet, in addition to any
other attacks you make this round. When you make
a surprise strike, the target is considered flat-footed
regardless of any class features or abilities it might have,
and you add your tier to the attack roll. Damage from this
attack bypasses damage reduction.

Fighting Defensively, Surprise Strike, adds tier and overflowing grace vs. flat-footed Aboleth: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 30
Damage, if hits: 1d6 + 6 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (3, 3, 3) = 16

Confirm crit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 + 1 - 4 = 24
Extra damage, if confirmed: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

(I believe Jiro's at full HP at time of Adular's channel/Overflowing Grace, so he gets the +1 sacred bonus to attack, skills, ability checks, saves, for 1 min.)

Jiro's AC is 23 until his next turn.

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

First attack misses, second attack does confirm crit.

The Aboleth looks extremely wounded. It five foot swims to the southwest and down then lashes out with it's tentacles. One strikes at Flynn, one at Seijiro, one at Rain, and one at Variel. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 221d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 251d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 251d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

I think those all hit. Flynn is hit for 10, Seijiro for 11, Rain for 9, Variel for 11. I need all who were hit to make fort saves.

After the fort saves you all are up.

If succeeded on Fort save.

Even in pain from the damage dealt by the Aboleth's tentacles, Rain swims back and up 5 ft (to E:17) and with both hands, strikes out viciously at the Aboleth, again.

Two-handed, Mythic Power Attack on Aboleth plus Overflowing Grace: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 28
Damage, if hits: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 24
Damage, if hits: 2d8 + 22 ⇒ (5, 3) + 22 = 30

The Aboleth falls under the onslaught of fierce strikes. It had lashed out at you all but ultimately your superior skills made short work of it. The attacks which brushed against you from the tentacles coated you with mucus and you felt it seep into your skin but were able to get it off fast enough to avoid lasting damage.

Seijiro however was unable to do so and his shifting skin becomes translucent and soft.

Seijiro's new “flesh” is soft and tender, reducing his Constitution score by 4 as long as it persists. If Seijiro's flesh isn't kept moist, it dries quickly and he takes 1d12 points of damage every 10 minutes. Remove disease and similar effects can restore an afflicted creature to normal, but immunity to disease offers no protection from this attack. The save DC is Constitution-based.

You all are able to get the wheel back up to the ship without any more incident.

Horatio watches the others drag the wheel back through the water to the ship above and his eyes narrow.

They promised that guy 5,000 gods damned gold pieces in hard cash after this little expedition and so far we've made a better haul when we pirated that basterd just south of Shark Island when we picked up our second ship... Meantime, this was supposed to be a wealthy ship with tons of loot on it; we promised our mates coin, not some wheel...

Therefore, Horatio continues with the examination of the ship, doing what he can to find the rest of the wealth on board; hoping that somewhere is a secret stash that will be discovered and reveal the bullion or jewels or gems or the wealth that he was looking for.

As he works, he glances up again at the retreating form of the others with the wheel swimming up to the ship above.

Hmmm... I wonder which ship they'll want to put that wheel on? he muses to himself then shrugs, confident that they can get matters like that resolved soon enough.

He considers the brush of poison he felt shiver on his flesh; but for now he is not overly concerned about it, or its effects; after all, so long as those who are damaged can sleep for a night then he feels confident that they will be healed in the morning by either Ana or the padre without incident.

However, the thought of poison does give him pause as he recalls an incident long ago when he and the others fought reefclaws...

If that thing's slime can do that kind of poison then maybe it's valuable...

GM; unless there are any other threats Horatio will Take 20 to do a full search of the rest of the ship. Can you give me a full list of the rest of the things I find, please?

Also, not sure if he's going to be able to do a proper removal of Aboleth poison underwater, or if he'll need to figure out a way to get the corpse aloft first. Please let me know what needs to happen for that. While I'm at it; what happens when the Aboleth's poison had touched a creature that was already Aquatic type? Like a fish; or better yet, a Sahuagin? Would it take no effect or simply eat through their flesh completely?

Cool; that said, I'm eager to see that information soon :)

Botting some Jiro rp...

With the creature finally dead and his skin transformed by the Aboleth's slime, Jiro swam back toward the priest and the druid. "Adu, Ana, do either of you have a spell to remove this affliction from my flesh?", scowling at the clear, slimy membrane where his skin once was. "I would see it gone sooner than suffer its effects once we're topside, aboard the Lady."

Do either of you have Remove Disease or a similar spell to remove this effect? Or even Sandara or Amen-set back on the Lady?

Male Elf Paladin-3

"Well done, all.... Ana, does your mind feel free, or is the pressure of enchantment still pressed against it?" Adular asks, "It's my hope that once it was slain you were freed."

"Gather around all you wounded types, let me polish you off a bit..." Another burst of holy energies.

Variel feels fully revitalized at Adular's healing touch. Thank you again for your boon to all of us.

Hearing about Jiro's afflicted state Variel racks his brain to find some solution but can not see a solution at this time. Perhaps we will just have to remain anchored here for the time being. That way you can reside int he water and not suffer the consequences of the disease.

Looking to Rain he finds she herself did not get the same affliction. Swimming over to her he looks her over and finds her hale and whole. Draping an arm around her he gives her a hug Thank good ness you were not afflicted either and you were able to so quickly end the threat of that creature. I saw you swim off to help Flynn and feared for your safety in helping a friend in need.

Looking around, Uh, where did Flynn go this time? I don't know about him but I will need some help with the wheel. It seems to be the source of the speed of the ship. If we attach it to the Lady then we could outrun almost anyone I reckon.

Seijiro nodded his head and cast his eyes toward Ana to determine if she had the spell prepared this day. While he waited for her to answer, he turned his head and showed his gratitude to the priest,

"Least for today your healing has restored my vigour. Thank you, Adu. If Ana does not have the spell, then I will await yours in the morning."

Jiro is back up to full HP, but has the new skin which must be hydrated every 10 minutes with cool, fresh water or will take 1d12 pts damage. His CON is reduced by 4 until his skin is restored to normal (his CON is now (14-4) 10).

Rain had been close enough to the priest to receive his healing channel and she felt the wounds inflicted by the Aboleth's tentacle knit whole.

"Thank you for the healing, Adular", she directed toward the Besmaran priest.

She had stowed her magical pike on her back and was wiping the last of the slime from her flesh when Variel swam over to her, looked her over before embracing her.

Variel wrote:

Thank goodness you were not afflicted either and you were able to so quickly end the threat of that creature. I saw you swim off to help Flynn and feared for your safety in helping a friend in need.

She sighed softly in his embrace. Rain had not expected so many obstacles in their endeavour and held Variel a little tighter before moving a little away from him and looking him in the eyes.

"I managed to fend off the poison from the slime. I was fortunate this time. You put yourself in the creature's path. It gave me time to attack it with my pike. I thank you for risking your life once again. I am glad it is dead." She gave Variel an approving smile.

Rain cast her eyes down further, toward the cargo hold and she shook her head. "It seems he is determined to discover any hidden treasure, for such a ship as this should have gold, he believes. I would help with the wheel but I cannot leave him alone in these waters for you have seen what manner of danger there is down here. I agree the wheel should be placed on the Lady. I would go and see if he is alright and to help search to hasten the task, by your leave?"

Rain did not want to tarry in the ocean any longer than they had to, but Flynn was seemingly taking too many risks to achieve his particular goal. Yet, she could not leave him on his own and she would do her duty by her fellow sailor and friend, even if she disagreed with his fixed pursuit without considering the consequences to them all.

Immortal, how much longer would it take for the rest of the sunken ship to be searched? Can we split the party: half to help draw the wheel up to the Lady and half to finish the search? What does the group think?

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

Np on splitting. I'll take care of it in narration.

The final blow pierces the deadly fish creature, it's slime infecting the water nearby. You regroup near he wheel and are able to get a line sent down for the wheel. In about 20 minutes you are able to get it loosened and detached from the ship enough to release it and get it up to the Dread Lady.

Meanwhile, Flynn and Rain search the rest of the ship and find a series of crates in the ship's brig with the Deeptreasure Mining Company of Sargava crest stamped upon them. Breaking one of them open, you see stacks of gold and silver ingots.

In total there are 3 crates, each with 5 points of plunder in them for a total of 15 points of plunder.

As Variel and Rain thank him, Adular shrugs, "Thank you lot for working to kill that thing. Nasty bugger if ever I saw one."

"Heh. I'll not lie, you were quite scary and I'd rather have you with us than against us. As for the cure for Jiro... blast. Okay, I think a scroll or two for diseases and restorations is something we might, as a crew, try to gather in the future. I hate feeling useless and it's never fun for the diseased person either."

Horatio will also collect the other misc. stuff in the piles mentioned earlier and bring that aloft, too.

You all are able to make it back to the ship without incident and thankfully, Sandara had asked for a remove disease spell today and is able to remove the horrifying affliction that had befallen Seijiro.

Game is to you all. You have the secret of the Brine Banshees speed and now can return with that information. You also have 15 more plunder and a magical wheel to place on the ship. You need to discuss what your plan is now.

Horatio pulls himself from the sea and stretches and bends his back, easing the kinks out of it.

"Well, that was a decent haul," he says eyeing the various cases of loot and other sundries equally roughly 17 points of plunder - because, of course, they had pulled up other things before the gold was discovered.

Piper is already bringing a small platter of crockery and a steaming mug of tea and pours him a cup which he blows on gently before sipping.

Amen-set then aids Piper in serving the others hot drinks after their time beneath the waves.

Horatio casually sips the tea and leans back against the gunwale, his eyes traveling over the rigging absently.

"Right now we got to flip this hash for some solid coin to pay off the doc for his tip on where to find this stash," he says as he pauses as he takes another sip of the tea.

"Then, I guess, we could convert some of the wealth to better arms and gear for the lads; and I'm willing to wager that they're eager to get to a port to relax a little," he adds - very aware of that it has almost been a week since the crew has had a chance to spend their money properly - well; less than a week since Quent, that is.

"I guess we head back to Quent, and then - after that - maybe we ought to head back to The Rock," he says with a nod at Dhaavan.

"After we get our gear converted to something more interesting, I kind of want to take a gander at some of those ruins in Shark Island," he adds glancing around.

"Failing that, there's always hunting," he adds with an appreciative glance at their second ship, his eyes glinting at the prospect of taking another prize even as the signs of carmine from the fight below the waves slowly dry in the afternoon sun.

Amen-set nods at this suggestion; clearly displeased that she was not present during the conflict. She hands Dhaavan a mug of the tea, and then another to Rain as Piper offers the other officers hot tea, too; if they are interested in it.

"Battle and renown are always a good thing," she says slowly, though still somewhat miffed that she was not present for the action below.

"Still, my own heart yearns to know more of the secrets held within the black stone that was discovered after the last adventure yesterday," she adds, recalling with crystal alacrity the mystery chest she discovered below the decks.

Oh yeah - given all that's happened via plot and challenge, isn't nearly about time to level up? *cough cough* :)

Adular gives Sandara a kiss when he finds out she had a remove disease spell ready, "That's for making me look like I had a plan all along if I didn't have the right spell."

When discussions come up on what to do, he says, "Well, one thing to ask, are we building up both ships, or keeping our focus on the Lady? Eventually the Grave will only be a drag on the lady, but on the other hand the things we can do by focusing on the best for the Lady should make her a wonder and then some."

Once top side with the wheel and the plunder that Rain and Flynn discovered Variel listens to the options laid out before them. It seems like our path is laid out before us already though. We discovered the secret behind the Brine Banshee and can now return with that information to proceed along the next step in the path to discovering if there are any agents in the Shackles as we were tasked to do. However what we do with the information next is completely dependent on what that information is.

As for more immediate concerns with the loot and the 2 ships, I am still of mind to keep both of them as we never know when we would need a back up. Outfit the Lady with everything to make it our main ship but do some minor upgrades as well to the Grave such as a broad rudder and small upgrades that still make a difference.

A share of the loot will go to the crew as is their due but he rest we have options with. We can sell the loot and use the funds to upgrade the weapons and ships themselves or use the funds to upgrade ourselves as well. I am thinking that we use half for the ship and set up some funds for situations that require assets that we currently don't have such as scrolls of remove disease or other items that would benefit all of us. The other half we split amongst ourselves. Thoughts on the matter.

When she returned topside with Flynn and placed the items they had discovered on the deck of the Lady, Rain shook the salt water from her person and then walked to one of the freshwater barrels and taking a wooden bucket, lifted some of the clean water and doused her hair, face and arms where the tentacle had struck and drinking some to slake her thirst for they had spent some time underwater. When Amen came toward her with the hot tea, Rain smiled and politely refused -- she was content with the cool water for now. As she drank, Rain watched quietly as Sandara healed Jiro's skin with her magic and was glad the kitsune was returned to his natural form. One less thing to worry about, she mused privately. She looked down and saw that Neko had made her way over to her and was now sitting by her feet, almost atop her booted feet, if truth be told. "You were fortunate to have been up here, Neko, for swimming among the sunken vessel was not pleasurable", Rain reached down and lovingly stroked the golden cat's head.

She heard Flynn speak of their next destination and the labours ahead of them, and then Adular and Variel respond in turn.

"I would keep the focus on the Lady for she is the superior and main vessel, she gave a nod to Variel as he had said something similar moments before, and I am fine with upgrading the Dryad's Grave and manoeuvring both ships as we sail and fight. However, to crew both vessels, the officers will continue to be split between ships and that will mean an increased danger, especially if one is a slower ship. The wheel we brought up will be fitted onto the Lady for she is our main vessel and I am the primary pilot."

Rain cast a glance at Flynn, suspecting he would rather put the wheel on the Dryad's Grave since he and his wards were sailing on her. But that was not the best decision for the group and if he thought about it, he would come to the same conclusion.

At the mentions of scrolls, Rain turned her gaze to Variel, "Scrolls of healing are fine and well but when we are beneath water, they would do us no good until we are topside once more. We have four capable casters (Adular, Sandara, Amen-set and Ana) who may cast such spells ... cannot one have it prepared as a precaution? I would see our funds put to more immediate, pressing needs, and other potions such as those to help us swim normally and unfettered, being we are set upon sea monsters more often than not."

Then Rain looked toward the Brine Banshee's wheel sitting among the plunder and loot.

"We just equipped the Lady with a brand new wheel. Do you want us to change wheels here, Variel, or once we have returned to Quent? I would see us returned to port sooner rather than later. We could always keep the new wheel as a spare or place it on the Dryad's Grave. Let us be on our way, soon."

"Sounds like helping the Dyrad keep up with the Lady while still recognizing the Lady as deserving the bells and whistles is the way to go then. Prudent and what not," He chuckles at mention of the wheel, "I look forward to seeing that wheel at work under a skilled pilot like Rain. The Dread Lady will be legend a century from now I think."

"Well, for remove curses and diseases an' the like, we won't normally need them until we get to top side anyway. Not something to be used immediately in battle, so the underwater conundrum should not be no nevermind anyway," Adular speaks up thoughtfully, "Now fortunately, Sandara had a spell to handle disease ready and maybe she'll not mind keeping it afresh, but it's been my experience that folks seem to want a spell of certain type, they want it right away, and the one you end up needing today ain't always the one prepared for. Pray for a spell to remove disease, and sure enough ill fortune will mean someone got poisoned instead. Pray for something to deal with poison, and damn if some poor fellow doesn't get cursed or the like. And, o course, if nothing goes wrong, then you've locked away a lot of divine options for combat, divination, protection and more. Or you get a case of "I thought YOU had the 'Remove Snifflewart spell today" "What, no, I thought you had it". Now some of that can be handled by a little coordination between meself, Ana, Sandara and Ramun if all are amendable. But I still think a back up scroll of handling curse, illness, poison, and loss of life energies each would be a sound investment and we should keep our eyes open for good deals on same. Maybe one of each and no more would be a good compromise? I'm not talking a dozen each and I certainly do understand the desire for the potions."

I think you both have the right of it. Coordination of spells will be critical moving forward so that there is some synergy but not too much overlap. However a few back up scrolls would do wonders if multiple people are affected or the spellcaster in question is the one afflicted.

As the new wheel is placed on the Lady Variel nods appreciatively. The Lady was truly a formidable ship in the water. While it did not have the weapons some other ships might boast of the ship itself was a sight to see.

Perhaps on the way to Quent we could decide what to do with the second ship. Perhaps we could berth it there for a while and simply pay a docking fee. That would keep us all together yet still have a ship as a backup someplace close.

Horatio pulls an apple from the platter of a food that Piper has brought them and slides a long, thin knife from his sleeve and begins to carve off small slices of the apple and chews them thoughtfully, his eyes neutral and his expression completely relaxed as he takes another peace easily, saying nothing about his thoughts about what to do what with either ship.

He glances south toward the edge of the northern coast of Shark Island, his eyes studying the strange place.

”My lass Piper could probably get the job done in a few hours at best… But maybe we ought to wait about that kind of work until we’re back in Quent; or at least some kind of safe port in general? After all, it’s only a few days from here… we could be there pretty quick even with both ships… But the thing is, after all the ruckus in the water just now, I’m kind of worried that it may draw undue attention to us the longer we wait here. And if we do wait, it’s likely that if trouble did start we’d be in hot soup if we were making repairs and something decided to jump us,” he adds with a casual voice.

Horatio shrugs.

”If we got a second ship, we could be using it… leaving a ship moored somewhere just don’t seem right somehow,” he says slowly.

”I mean, there are plenty of reasons to keep a second ship – not the least being that flaking an enemy vessel has its uses,” he adds ”but I guess the thing is – if we don’t like this ship, well… if we want another ship, we get her the same way we got this lady,” he adds with a gentle pat of his hand on the gunwale.

”After all, it’s not like we’re Royal Navy,” he adds with a sardonic smile.

”Personally I’m for having this debate while we’re sailing,” he says in a more serious voice.

”As it stands we’re in the lee of some dangerous waters. On the west coast of this island is the same place where that bloody captain makes his berth; he may be nearby even now… There’s Sahuagin infested waters on the south side of this island, and gods know what else is on the mainland. I’m just saying; we can have this discussion here, but I’d rather be putting distance between us and this place,” he says as he takes another bite of the apple.

He glances at Variel.

”By the way; what was on the body of that dead guy lashed to the wheel? Anything useful?”

Horatio has no issue discussing these things further, but I don’t think it’s a good plan to discuss them right now so close to this island. Even though the bulk of the action was underwater, it’s possible that hidden threats may be coming our way while we wait here much longer. I’d rather not be doing any specific work on either ship until we at least reach Quent (it’s only a few days away). Then we can do whatever we want to do with either ship while the lads get drunk and we’re away from immediate threats.

But that’s just my two cents…

Rain watched Variel as he privately pondered the options before him. She quietly ventured her thoughts again, "I would see us gone from this place and on our way to Quent as soon as we raise anchor. There, we will have time to conclude our business, have the Brine Banshee's wheel fitted to the Lady and determine our next course and the future of the Dryad's Grave." Horatio grins at Rain’s comments.

”You said it, Pilot-Major!” he says with eager enthusiasm.

”Meantime, given that The Lady is a bit faster than the Banshee I’m guessing that you’ll likely catch us if we get started now, then?” he says as he throws the remains of the apple over the side of the ship.

”But I agree with you completely; we’ve done enough lollygagging over this cursed spot – it’s time we get going and discuss our next move in safer waters,” he says with a glance at the officers.

For now, Horatio notes that Variel is still considering options but meanwhile, Horatio is painfully aware that the Banshee is not as fast as The Lady and that with her hold filled with plunder she’ll likely be wallowing like a gorged sow.

Therefore, agreeing with Rain and the others about other creatures may be circling their position below the grim, gray waves, he decides to get the Banshee moving as quick as possible; after all, The Lady could easily catch them once they were sailing.

They had plunder in their ships and a crew eager to enjoy it and they could always continue their plans en route to Quent.

Rain was right; it was time to get to safer waters.

Amen-set’s eyes widen at Rain’s comment and a small smile flicks over her lips at Rain’s sentiment, then she squares her shoulders and nods briskly.

Bowing before the officers of The Lady she turns and rushes back to the Banshee and calls Piper back to get ready.

Horatio turns to the others:

”I guess we can finish plans later tonight and we’re far from here. I’ll see you all then,” he adds, then to turns to the Dhaavan and Jiro.

”Come on; we can talk later tonight when we’re away from here, but let’s get going,” he calls to them and rushes back to the Banshee.

Amen-set is already on the Quarter Deck of the Banshee at this point and she cups her hands around her mouth and calls to her from between the two ships –

”I hear thee well, senet; thy speak with wisdom, as is thy wont! Come, then – let us away!” she calls to her with eager enthusiasm.

Once the officers are there, Amen-set turns to the crew of the Banshee she calls out to them -

”Alright thy motherless cretin’s! The word is given – get thy god’s damned hands to Action Stations; raise the whoring anchor and make ready to sail on my mark! We are to venture out forthwith and make all speed to round the coast and quit this poxing place and tack our course to Quent!”

”Let speed be in thy blood and haste in thy limbs; and the lad who lingers in his duty will have his green-addled foreskin nailed to the mainmast,” she adds with a lusty bellow, her fists curling tight by her side as flames lick from them as the sailors on the Banshee rush to their positions and begin to make ready to sail as she orders to them to sail.

”Now, by the gods of sea and sky; of wind and water and the Great Father above – SAIL!”

With that the crew of the Brine Banshee obey and the ship is soon underway, making all speed to Quent, confident that The Lady will be able to catch them soon enough!

Rain listened to Amen's colourful and passionate command to set sail and her dark blue brow quirked at the directives. Something has set her blood to beat faster, Rain mused silently and she gave a soft chuckle. She has flair, I give her that.

As the plunder, loot, magical wheel and other articles were finally stowed below, in the cargo hold, Rain set to work on calculating the best course and positioned herself behind the wheel, with Neko contentedly by her side. Upon Variel's word, she gave the command to raise anchor and crew to get into position. Those of the officers who remained on the Lady set to their respective tasks/duties.

She turned the Wheel and manoeuvred the ship carefully lest she hit any part of the sunken vessel or other obstacles in the surrounding water before catching a favourable wind and setting after the Dryad's Grave. It did not take long for the Lady to catch up with the second vessel piloted by Amen-set and she saluted the girl.

Lifting Svingli's Eye toward the sky and horizon, Rain made her forecast and calculations, as the Lady skimmed the waves/ocean toward Quent.

As the others had voiced their opinions and it seems a consent was reached Variel nodded and concurred. On to Quent then. Once we reach a safe harbor then we can refit the Lady, sell some loot, upgrade the Dryad and figure the next step in our path to uncovering this nefarious plot.

Variel watched as the Dryad took off and even with Amen coaxing everything she could from the vessel the Lady caught up quickly with Rain at the wheel. Quite impressive my dear. Why with the Wheel attached I dare say you could give Amen a full days start and still pass her up on a 4 day trip.

Variel then goes about the crew to see how they fare since there are less of them with running two ships. He gives a hand if needed but stays out of they if things are in hand. He did not want to interfere with the crew.
