Returning from his day with Selenia, Seijiro listens to the chatter on what to call their nascent fleet. He nods in acknowledgement to Rain when she mentions that not all follow the same faith. He considers the possibility of names and several in Minkaian pop into his head... Nazo no kantai, meaning 'enigma fleet' comes to mind, as does Shinsei sendan, meaning 'hallowed flotilla', though again, since not all worship the same gods, hallowed by who? he considers. Then he thinks of Tenshi no kantai, angel fleet, a reference to their pilot's transformation... But he shrugs none of them quite seeming quite right... He keeps his thoughts to himself though, as everyone else seems invested in 'blessings' being part of the name.

Finally speaks up and says quietly "How about 'Fukushu no Tenshi'? I mean 'Avenging Angels'... a reference to our pilot perhaps but also to the intent of so many to go after the traffickers in slaves... "

It is true that not all the Officers follow Besmara and it should be taken into consideration. We could simply refer to our growing fleet as the more neutral Brine's Blessings - Blessings for short, as Adular has previously stated."

Horatio turns to look at Rain for a moment.

"As I understand it, the formal name of our Flagship is The Dread Lady and we had simply been calling it The Lady for short."

"Now I may be wrong about that, and if I am, well; no worries."

Sorry, I honestly thought it was The Dread Lady for a while, not just The Lady when I wrote that this morning. But if I'm wrong, then it's all good :)

Then he turns and studies Rain for a moment.

"Meantime, I want to tell you that I disagree with you on something you said."

"In this case I don't think there would be any confusion about the names - unnecessary or otherwise. I also don't happen to like changing her name to The Brine Blessing. To be honest, I liked the name I gave for the reasons I gave."

"That said; you know we disagree about this and you know what I think, so there's nothing more to be said on it," he says somewhat rhetorically.

"Meantime, if the rest of you want to call her The Brine Blessing then that's how it's going to be and I won't say anything else about it."

Happy to have you along! I'm also curious to try a new tact in pursuing the stone/box - I had a little inspiration today and I'm kind of curious to know if this item is more than just a rock from space.

I have a few ideas on where to explore, but before I toss them up, do you have any suggestions? After all, you where with Amen-set after she had the vision and discovered the secret compartment, that being the case, both she and Horatio would welcome you when trying to find out lore about this thing. For now, if you have any ideas, I'm eager to try them out :)

I have a few ideas, but they're kind of odd/off-the-wall concepts. For now, if anyone else has a suggestion or idea, I'm willing to follow their lead. Right now I'm drawing a sudden spark of inspiration about this box/stone from the character "Jack" in "Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard"; but if anyone has a specific angle they'd like to pursue, I'm totally cool with trying their ideas first; just waiting to hear back from them :)

Horatio turns a somewhat quizzical expression at Jiro for a moment then grins slowly.

"Aye! I got no problem with letting slavers know I'm coming for them," he says as his grin suddenly turns wolfish.

"Say; next time we go after some you should come along - you're good with a knife and there's nothing like getting a little blood and justice on your mettle to put a spring in your step," he says clapping Jiro on his back in a friendly manner.

Then he turns to Adular.

"You got any other plans while in town before we head out?" he asks the priest quizzically.

Male Elf Paladin-3

"One thing that unites us, none of us care much for slavers here," Adular says, "Nothing in particular if there isn't a task ahead for me. I tend to go where the wind takes me. Ye've a suggestion?"

Variel shrugs at the notion of changing the ship's name itself. I did not mean to change the ship's name but if that is the group's consensus then it is fine with me. I was thinking more broadly to the name of our blossoming fleet.. I understand that not everyone follows Besmara. It was a quick idea thrown out to get the ideas flowing. However the idea of Brine's Blessings is ambiguous enough to encompass all and sounds good to the ear.

Jiro, if you want to write that 'Fuku do Tengu' Intentionally said it wrong as Variel doesn not understand that language btw below the nameplate that works for me as well. We will need to get another flag though created, a couple of them actually, to represent our fleet. That way all who see it will know who it belongs to and that if they mess with one ship they will have to deal eventually with all of us.

Once that is accomplished, officers promoted to the Dryad's Grave, a broad rudder attached, and supplies stowed I am thinking to send them off to start plundering. With Adular's help we can always reach them with a sending spell to inform them of our location when it is time for them to pay their tribute to us.

Variel declines to go with Flynn about the box at the moment as he plans to go with Dhaavan to sell the plunder gained and see to the preparations and promotions for the Dryad's Grave.

Horatio cocks his head as he stares at Variel.

"Not really; that was already done when we were sailing," he says with a casual shrug.

He glances at Adular.

"First thing I'd like to know is who here has experience with strange lore and unusual information. Once I get a sense of the folk living here I think I'll know more about where to go," he says as he rubs his chin thoughtfully.

GM - if you have a quick link as to who/what is in the town again (like a key or something) that would be really helpful. Thanks!

Rain's head turned at mention of the name. A light flush spread across her cheeks.

"That, too, is a strong name for our fleet to be. I am open to either."

It seemed the matter was settled by Variel and she nodded in agreement.

Upon Variel's utterance that he would venture with Dhaavan to sell a portion of the plunder and purchase parts for the other ship, Rain turned to her betrothed, "I will join you for I would see what there is in the markets. Neko will stay aboard the Lady."

Turning to Flynn and Amen, she added, "Be careful when you ask about the stone box. Others may want to possess it, if it is as valuable as you both believe it to be. Good luck finding someone with true answers on this isle."

It appeared Adular had time to spare to join Flynn and Amen, so she did not have to worry about the two of them getting into too much trouble and needing her physical presence.

Seijiro heads into town with a little grin and orders two nameplates that read both 'Avenging Angels' and underneath that: 'Fukushu no Tenshi' in smaller letters. He orders them made quickly and will pay extra for that (out of his own share if necessary...) They are nice nameplates, but not as large or grand as the current nameplate with the ship's name on it, so as not to overshadow the name 'Dread Lady'... They are identical, so hopefully the one for the Dryad's Grave won't overshadow that ship's name.

When they arrive at the ship, he'll ask that the current crafters on board might install them, but that of course is probably for another day...

Having accompanied Rain and Dhaavan again for the purpose of selling the loot Variel was once again impressed with Rain's and Dhaavan's ability to make the most out of any deal. First it was the number of sailors they found to swell the ranks of the Dryad and The Lady. Now it was for getting premium value for the goods they plundered. It took some time but Variel was pleased with the results. Excellent job both of you. With this we can make some fine upgrades to the ship along with the officers getting some well earned payment as well.

On the way back through Quent Variel makes certain to stop and order a broad rudder and rapid deploy sails. (1500gp spent) He also makes certain to purchase a large diamond for Adular should they ever need certain services from him. (5000gp spent)

After that he returns to the Lady with Rain and Dhaavan to split the rest of the money among the officers and see what the others have been doing while he was making his purchases.

Horatio nods briskly at Adular.

”Outstanding!” he says.

”In which case it seems that our paths may be conjoined,” he adds.

”The best place to gather information in Quent is the Temple to Calistra.”

”If you come there with us you’ll be able to help us with gathering clues as well as have the chance to find someone skilled in the healing arts.”

He stretches his back a bit as he thinks about options.

”The time it will take to make the repairs should be at least a day – maybe more. That should give the lads time to play in the town,” he says almost to himself, then glances up at Amen-set.

”The Stone is yours; it called to your mind when we did battle on the ship, but given that it seems like it’s some kind of ore I’m wondering if it can be used by the team as a whole…” he says slowly.

”Either way; once we get the news on the stone and what it can do and so on, then our next step is to make sure we’re properly outfitted for the next expedition.”

”From what I’ve heard it will involve dealing with some trecking inland,” he says slowly, as if not entirely sure he was correct about his data.

”Last time we did work overland we were hardly prepared for the job; I'm wondering if having some gear for that kind of mission would be handy. Either way, we’ll take care of that, too.”

”That said; let’s go!” he adds.

He pauses and turns and studies Rain for a moment.

”That’s a good point, Pilot-Major,” he says to her with a nod.

”But don’t worry; if anyone tries to take what’s ours then I will kill them,” he says with a friendly smile but a completely sincere voice.

Good times! At this point I’m heading to the Temple of Calistra to get some information. As per Rain’s suggestion I’m going to be discreet in the questioning. I’m hoping to have some backup on the checks to gather information from anyone who wants to come. Adular, if you’re looking for “talent” via healing, I think that we may find some good options at the Temple while we’re trying to get information.

After that, if we can get some gear to hunt down that Naga (if we need gear; not honestly sure if we will, but this seems like the best time to pick some up).

GM – let me know once we get to the Temple and we can go from there.

For those that went to the temple, you are directed to their archivist who requests you leave the cube while she does some divinations and research. She asks that you return the next day.

The next day you return and she looks extremely harried and exhausted. I don't know what this is or how you found it, but I have been able to find nothing about it other than it is made of a form of starmetal. It seems to be hollow but I cannot say how I know that...it just feels...hollow. I am sorry I could not be more help

Amen-set feels her teeth grind together as she waits patiently for answers.

While it was true that the gods encouraged individuals to strike out on their own and do great works, it seemed that their entire company was being called to work on a project conjointly and that any effort to split up may disturb the powers that be.

That being the case, she turns and speaks to the others.

”With great respect; perhaps we should return to the ship and meet with the others and then advance as a single unit.”

At which point she leads Horatio and Adular back to the ship with a resigned pace only to discover that – when they return – Variel and Rain have returned and so has Jiro and Dhaavan so that now the entire company is all back together and free to advance as a team.

”There was nothing at the brothel of note,” Amen-set says to the group.

I think I can make the map out but not sure. I think they are on opposite sides of each other. In that case...

I am not too willing to rush into a nest of vipers or nagas for that matter. Perhaps we follow the lead on Keft first and see where that takes us.

I have no idea if you want me to name her etc and run with it, so feel free to ignore this if I go to far...

"So, Rubyeye Jane is what you like to be called is it?" Adular grinned at the half orc woman, "Catchy. I can tell you now, this crew has the Pirate Queen's gaze on it to be sure. There's no other explanation for our knack of getting into trouble, and then out again that suits me. Not all of them worship Besmara, but as I often say, nobody's perfect," He chuckles again, "Unless the officers reject you, I doubt you'll have a problem."

Rubeye Jane scratched the back of her neck, causing the sensible pony tail she kept her hair into sway, "I seen plenty o other faiths, no nevermind to me. Long as folks don't be mocking her to my face, they can use their jaws for what they like is how i see it. So...pay is fair, bounty likely, and death around the corner oftimes. Folks want me to fight by their sides, then heal their sides... or rears or what have you after. I have the right of it, Brother Bluth?"

"You do, you do indeed, Sister Rubyeye," Adular nodded, "And don't make it sound like you wouldn't say yes. You're itching to fight alongside crew and taste the sea breeze direct."

Rubyeye smirked herself, slight fangs showing, "Ain't no woman born wanted to be seen as 'too easy', is all. But right. I'm in if they'll have me."

"Rubyeye Jane'll be checking into the Dryad's Grave or whatever we're calling it... solid acolyte finally out grown the basics, wants a chance to see the sea. I recommend her. Horatio sees Adular’s laugh and grins in response, glad his joke went over well.

When the others arrive he listens to what everyone says and then offers his own thoughts.

”Right, so I guess we’re all agreed on the target. Question is; do we want to get any further information on the target or do we just dive right in? If we want to learn more I think that this is the time to do it."

If we’re going to get any follow-up on this person, I think that doing that now is a good idea. If so, does anyone want to pick a specific place or topic location for information? If you tell me, I’ll do what I can to help.

I’m not entirely sure who/what this guy is, or why we want him (I don’t have it in my notes. If anyone can give me a quick break-down on who/what this person is, I’d be obliged. Also, it may effect what equipment I purchase.

If Naga’s are poisonous (for example) it may be useful to make sure we have a portable alchemist kit to extract poison for resale (that’s just an example). As for the other target, I’m guessing the more we learn in Quent, the better it will be.

Finally, if we have any final decisions on crew or gear, could we ask our “Patron” in the form of the Lady of Quent to offer us any aid in who/what we may pick up to help our secondary ship?

Great! I’m at work now, but I’ll be back later tonight!

@Variel: No worries re forgetting - it'll make for interesting conversation then.

Rain, you remember from Drenchport a place called Carver's Hall where the scrimshawers ply their trade. If he is anywhere in Drenchport, it will be there.

Horatio eases the butt of his pistol forward in its holster as he suddenly remembers that Keft was an agent of Cheliax and his eyes narrow.

"Good, good. It sounds like we got a killing to do, then," he says with a cheerful voice, but his eyes look like ice.

"So to Drenchport we go," he adds.

Cool. That said, I assume we're now on the way to Drenchport?

Variel looks at Rain in a bit of surprise as she reveals the information about where Jaymiss would be located. He is about to ask when a look of horror flirts across his face. Literally smacking himself on the forehead Variel groans outwardly. Rain, I am sorry. I did not even realize where Drenchport is located. I am an idiot. Please forgive me. I should have made this a priority right away to head there.

Looking at Horatio as he and Jiro discuss their options. Uh, Flynn, I think a little more tact might be necessary at this time. For personal reason I would not like it to seem that we put a hit out on this Jaymiss Keft, and by we I mean I as captain of this ship. I don't think it would have the right...resonance...with the people on the island if you know what I mean.

Rain's turquoise eyes fixed on Flynn at the mention of killing. She was momentarily waylaid by Variel by his admission but he had much on his mind and she did not fault him for his lapse in memory.

"You are forgiven", she quietly and simply replied to her intended.

To Flynn and the others, she merely added, "Jaymiss Keft has information of the spy but it does not consequently mean he is a spy. Variel is right - tact is better needed in this inquiry. The Master of the Gales is the ruler of Drenchport and a powerful pirate lord and a member of the Pirate Council. Let us not make an enemy of him as soon as we step foot in his town."

Looking at the faces of her companions, Rain continued,

"My family lives on Tempest Cay - in the town of Drowning Rock. My grandfather has associates in Drenchport and for those reasons, as well, I would have us peacefully attend to Jaymiss Keft, unless he gives us cause otherwise."

Know. Local re Jaymiss Keft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 (Not the best roll, but Immortal, is there anything else Rain may have heard about Jaymiss, from the locals or her grandfather?)

Horatio's eyes widen in surprise for a moment, then his gaze returns to a more neutral expression.

"Of course, of course. I understand completely," he says in a somewhat loud voice.

"Indeed; it would be very bad to condone the assassination or outright murder of an agent of Cheliax, or whoever this person might be," he says with a somewhat embarrassed expression, as if the very idea of suggesting to kill this person was such a horrible plan that he was ashamed he even considered it.

"I understand completely your decision on the matter, and I'm confident that all the officers agree with it," he adds with an emphatic voice with a completely sincere and innocent expression.

Horatio turns to Rain and nods his head.

"A good point, Pilot-Major. I agree completely - when we deal with members of the Pirate Council tact is always the best course of action," he says with a contrite voice, clearly agreeing with Rain's recommendation.

Then he turns and gets ready to go, whistling softly.

As he whistles Amen-set watches him a long time through lidded eyes.

Of course, she sees nothing amiss.

It's clear to anyone - both on their ship or on the docks - who might be watching that Horatio completely and formally agrees with all the public decisions made by the officers of The Dread Lady.

Meanwhile, he continues to whistle softly as he packs his gear for the trip...

Watching Flynn walk away, whistling his little melody, Rain lifted a dark blue brow and repeated for good measure, "Flynn, do not do anything impetuous when we arrive in Drenchport. Be measured until we know more."

Looking to Variel, she then added, "We should ready the ship to set sail." She showed him points on the map - safer passages from Motaku Isle to Tempest Cay.

We ready to set sail, guys, or do people have a little more rp to settle?

Rain, you don't know much as he isn't very well known. Just that he is a decent carver, not the best but also not the worst. He's half-elven and known to have a gruff bearing but that's about all you can remember.

Horatio turns and glances at Rain.

"Don't worry about me, I'm the model of restraint and diplomatic behavior - especially around members of the Pirate Council," he says in a cheerful voice.

Amen-set gives him a hard look then turns to Rain and gives her a look, as if to say - Seriously?

Then she moves closer to Rain and offers her a small package.

Package:

It's just some smoked salmon she bought for Neko for a treat; but she didn't want to give it to Neko without Rain's permission.

Horatio hears her words and turns his head, nodding once.

"Alright then; you heard the Pilot-Major. Look alive and get ready to sail," he bellows at them.

The men move to obey Rain's request as if it is a command. Though they do not weigh anchor or set sail formally - waiting for an official order from either Rain or Variel - the ship is now ready to at a moments notice.

Just kidding, if other people have other stuff to do, no worries. But you don't get a set-up for that response very often, so when I saw it, I had to use it ;)

Quick side note - how much gold did we get on that last mission specifically? I'll have my shopping list up tonight when I get home and can review the total GP as well as have some time to check magical items.

Follow-up RE: Crafting -

GM: While Rain may not know much about this guy, I'm sure that if she's a native of Drenchport she'd probably know without having to make a roll the ETA in terms of days. Can we get that information somewhere? That way we know how long PC's have to craft stuff, if we'd like stuff crafted.

Thanks!

"Jaymiss Keft is a capable carver, though he cannot boast to being the best. I do not know much about the Half-Elf, but I have heard he has a gruff manner." Again her gaze lingered on Flynn, hinting once more he should be on his best behaviour.

Rain prepared the course (with Variel by her side) and when all was ready, ordered "Weigh anchor!"

Perhaps someone will know of him once we get there that we can pump for information. If not then surely dhaavan's silvered tongue can work magic on him. If that does not work then we might have to resort to the norm around here and just pay him. He is a merchant after all./b]

Variel lets Flynn shout about ordering the men and gives Rain a shrug. [b]My dear, whenever you are ready I believe we are ready to go see your island and possibly your family together.

Once the Lady is underway Variel will search out Flynn for a moments talk. When he finds him he asks for a bit of time and privacy from amen set or Piper. Alright Horatio enough with the crap. What is going on and why are you going on about following orders so loudly. I know you better than that. There was s nothing you would like more than to sneak in kill the guy and leave. What game are you playing at because I for,one am not buying it nor trusting you.

Rain smiled. "Aye, Aye, Captain." She wondered if Variel was nervous at the prospect of meeting the other members of her family. "I am uncertain if they will be in Drenchport, for my grandfather said he had matters to attend to when last he sailed with us. But who knows ... My family can be unpredictable." Rain gave a low chuckle and then called out to the sailors/crew, "To Drenchport we go!"

Horatio shrugs and follows Variel aside for the private conversation.

He listens to Variel’s comments thoughtfully, though a confused look filters over his eyes as he listens. When Variel is done, Horatio scratches his beard a moment as if considering how to proceed. Then he responds –

Response:

”Wow! Well, where to begin, then…”

”I guess the first thing’s first; if you don’t trust me, then why bother asking me something? After all, I could be completely honest with you and you may simply suspect that what I am saying is simply a lie that I formulated to appease you,” he says slowly, as if he was merely thinking out loud.

”Still, I guess being up front at this point wouldn’t hurt.”

He glances around and sees that Amen-set is chatting with Rain and notices the men are now moving to the halyards and climbing aloft to change the sails to make the safest speed out of the harbor.

Then he turns back to Variel.

”When I offered my suggestion to deal with this guy we weren’t having a private conference or anything like that. We were doing it publicly on the main deck, and in a place that a lot of knowledge and gossip gets passed around – namely, the port of Quent.”

”We always moor the ship flush against the pier and never in the bay, so it’s perfectly logical to assume that people on the docks walking by might be able to hear us. Now, me personally, I don’t think they could have heard us – but I guess it’s possible that they might have. Based on your comments to me, I figured that’s what you thought.”

”That being the case, when you made it a point to correct me publicly and in front of the officers and the crew – well, naturally I assumed it was to make sure that no eavesdroppers might take what I said and pass it on to the proper authorities. So, after you made your point, I figured the best thing to do is respond loud enough that any said eavesdroppers might instead say – Well, that captain’s got his crew in line. He won’t tolerate no trouble from his lads and it’s clear that there won’t be no trouble when they get to wherever it is they’re going! – or something like that.”

”So yeah; that’s why I responded loudly and the way I did.”

Amen-set beams at the response and bows before Rain.

Then she takes it and goes to find Neko.

When she sees the golden cat she crouches down and opens the package, but waits to see if Neko will come and enjoy it. She makes no sudden movements, knowing that you cannot encourage a cat to do anything – they must either choose to do something, or they will not do it at all.

If Neko comes to investigate and eat the smoked salmon she will lean back and watch the cat eat, but does not pet Neko because it is not a good plan to pet a cat when it is eating, though she will sing softly to Neko in what sounds like the draconic tongue.

Horatio:

Variel shakes his head at the man before him. I am sorry that you read my position so. In fact I could care less about what the people on the dock are thinking or saying right now. Instead I am more concerned about my personal life 2 months from now. What I said was to correct you in front of Rain not necessarily in front of the officers or anyone else.

You see, Drenchport is well known to Rain for reasons that if you don't know then I will not be the one to divulge the reasons. Knowing that, that is why I made sure that this was not gong to be a combative approach and more of a peaceful reconnaissance.

Not wanting to divulge any more Variel ends his talk simply. Just trust me on this. It is better for Rain and myself by extension if this is done quietly without any big uproar. Thanks.

Amen and the salmon:

Neko was licking her golden paws when the girl approached. She watched her beneath hooded eyes and continued to lick as if uninterested in the offering or her presence.

After a few moments, Neko lifted herself up from the deck and walked over to the opened package; her thick golden tail swishing back and forth.

Neko delicately sniffed at the fish and then proceeded to bite into the thin, smoked flesh. It did not take her long to eat it and she licked her mouth, face and paws again once she was done.

The girl was singing in a strange tongue the golden cat could not understand. In Amen's mind, the girl heard Neko's feminine voice say, "Your offering was acceptable. A little more next time", and then with another swish of her tail, the golden cat moved away to stand by her mistress, Rain.
