Male Human Paladin 9 (HP:68/102, AC: 28, Touch: 16; +10 Fort, +6 Reflex, +11 Will)

Still trying to keep as low as possible to avoid being spotted, Mantooth looks up over the bush to where the two guards retrieved their horses. He is keeping an eye on anyone left in the warehouse after the carriage departs as well as if there are any horses left that Mantooth could borrow for the time being.

Perception Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Male Human 2

Now that the carriage is moving Matthias summons Humphrey with a short whistle that one could mistake for a bird call and tells Mantooth
Hop on! We've gotta follow this carriage so we're there when it breaks down. He mounts Humphrey (and waits a moment to see if Mantooth is coming) before urging him into motion with a pinch of his heels. Humphrey surges forward and is gone around a bend to intercept the carriage after a few blocks and follow at a safe distance so as to not attract attention.

Dungeon Master

@Mantooth

There are no other horses in the paddock, but the horse drawn carriage does seem to move rather slowly over the cobblestone streets.

@Bofus

You succeed at freeing Rorimac, Falco, Tolman, Wellby, and Adalgrim. You are working on the manacles of Anson Thornage when suddenly the carriage goes over a bump and the back wheel comes off as anticipated.

"Whoah! " The slaver calls out to his horses. "What the devil just happened?!?! Go and see what the trouble is, boys."

You hear the sound of two guards jump to the ground and walk back over the cobblestone street to the rear of the cart.

"It looks like we have a broken wheel, my Lord"

I need to know who is following the wagon. I know Florence is with Rotskill. I know Mantooth and Matthias are following. What about Cebrë and Thordak?

@Florence

I would love to get to know you better, tiger, but I got work to do first. Let's go hear what Kraztor has to say about the location of the gem. Once we pick it up, we can make the trip to Elsircross."

Rotskill heads back to the warehouse, where he meets the necromancer again.

The pale faced mage gives Rotskill a wicked smile and says, "So I was able to read his mind of the halfling and he hid the gem in the cemetery. It is in the graveyard, buried next to Ferren Umplebee's headstone."

"What?! Who the hell is Ferren Umplebee? I never heard of such a man. Are you sure that theiving bastard didn't just fool you?!" Turning to Florence, he asks, "Do you want to come along and help me find the gem? This sounds like a wild goose chase, but it is the only lead we have."

Thordak gets up out of the grass after the two thugs pass him by and watches where they go.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Although Mantooth seems to be made of the night itself, Thordak glimpses Matthias trotting off after the carriage and decides to let him handle the flute-man.

He turns his attention to Rotskill and the Necromancer, and follows them at a distance, being as quiet as his armor allows.

Track: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

After a while, he stops and turns to Cebre. Assuming she's with him? Alright, they think the gem is in the graveyard... fools! Hrah! Oi suppose Bofus did well... An' you've got the other? Might Oi recommend gettin' out o' harm's way? Maybe do a bit o' light readin'? How 'bout we call on our lady? He asks.

Unless you think we should help the others? Hrmmm... So mantooth an' Matthias are gonna rescue Bofus... that shouldn't be a problem... But Rotskill an' that other fella are gonna find out the gem isn't there... which might get sticky for Florence... An' then they'll probably head out to find the Wagon... which will be empty... we hope.
...So we need to get Bofus an' those other little man-children hidden.... an before the others find out an' come lookin... You know, Oi think Florence seems to be handlin' herself quite well... It seems to me like our most important objective now is to get those little halflin's stowed away! But Oi dunno...

I concentrate hard to work that lock. Timing will be important here. If I hear my friends coming/attacking, I'll be ready to jump out to help. If it sounds like the slavers are getting teh wagon ready before my friends arrive, we get ready to jump out and surprise the guards.

Slowly enough to follow easily on foot?

If the carriage can be followed on foot, Mantooth will do his best to stay out of sight and keep after the carriage. Upon seeing it fall apart, Mantooth ducks behind a house/wall/shrub for cover, watching for the opportunity to present itself to present himself. Mantooth also sizes up anyone who exits the carriage to look at the wheel.

Perception check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

If the carriage is too quick on the cobblestone, Mantooth awkwardly climbs on the back of Humphrey and holds onto whatever he can, doing his best not to look like a fool.

Florence, still checking if Rotskills has sucked her silver tooth out, nods eagerly

I'd love to accompany you, but we should be careful and quick, the halfling's friends may already miss him.

Dungeon Master

Bofus and Others

You are unable to reach the lock to the carriage door. It appears to be on the outside! It sounds like the guards are inspecting the broken wheel outside.

@Mantooth, Matthias, Cebrë, and Thordak

You notice the back right hand wheel is broken and the whole carriage is tipping slightly to the side. Two of the guards are down on the ground inspecting the wagon and trying to figure out how to fix it.

Broken Carriage Scene

@Florence.

Oh yes, How can I forget those meddling bastards. I confess, I was almost going to take you for one of them too. I see now that I was mistaken! You and Rotskill join two other rogues and cross town to the cemetery. You open one of the large steel spiked gates by the Temple to Pharasma and pass into a large field filled with tombstones and monuments.

"Alright, everyone! Let's start looking for the headstone of Ferren Umplebee. I will buy a bottle of Old Lizard Hard Cider for the person who finds it. Now let's go!"

Female Human Bard 4

Florence will momentarily search for a headstone that is VERY withered and which remnants look at least a tiny bit like a Ferren Umplebee might have found his final rest here. Anything ilke that within the graveyard?

*whispers* OK everyone. Get ready. Adalgrim, you've still got my sap? Get on that side of the door, I'll get on this side. When the guard steps in, CLEAN HIS CLOCK, you got it? Now, move around a little here

While whispering, I do some rearrangin: I shove whomever is at U10 into the corner behind me--W 10--and I move to V 10. I'm assuming that the guy at T10 is is Adalgrim; if that's not him, I make sure Adalgrim and whomever IS at T 10 switch places.

*still whispering* Everyone grab their manacles like you're still chained. We want the first guy to get inside! Rorimac, lay down in the corner and be quiet.

*Yelling loudly* Oh, crap!! Someone's hurt!! That jolt knocked him out--he's bleeding bad from his head!! Help, get in here, I can't wake him up!

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

I look at everyone and give them the "c'mon" sign with my hand, to indicate they need to join in with the yelling.

*whisper again* once we clock the first guard, everyone scramble out, grab a weapon if you can, and overcome the second. My friends will be here to help. *yelling again* Hurry, I think he's dyin!! Gah, so much blood!!

Thordak follows the carriage and Matthias and Mantooth after the Rotskill/Florence group passes. Seeing the carriage broken down, he chuckles to himself. As the guard is opening the carriage door, he steps from behind the building and aims his loaded crossbow right at him.
Don't move, meatface! That's moi halflin' an' unless you want a bolt through yer skull Oi'd recommend steppin' away from the carriage, nice an' slow! Thordak calls out.

5-foot step to X27. I will aim for the guard currently at V12. If I can, I would like to delay my turn (or is it a readied action or something?) so I can shoot if he is...disagreeable.

Female Human Bard 4

I didn't assume there might be a headstone with that writing on it. Then I will surely look for one with the correct name.

Perception1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Dungeon Master

@Florence

You look carefully through the cemetery for a headstone that may serve the purpose of fooling Rotskill. Although you do not find a stone that contains the name Umplebee on it, you do find a grave marker that has letters written in an infernal script. For someone that does not read the language, it may say just about anything. Below the family name on the gravestone is the carving of a finger pointed straight downward.

Female Human Bard 4

Assuming Rotskill and his men didn't find the correct one:

Florence beholds the strange gravestone with the infernal writing on it, then takes some steps back and calls over to Rotskill

Hey, see that, I think this might be it.

If he comes over, she adds

I'm not that good in that language, yet I think that's the grave we're searching for.

Dungeon Master

@Florence

Rotskill comes over at your request. "What did you find, Tiger?"

Florence wrote:

"That old stone? That looks pretty old and those words don't look right. What in the world makes you think that belongs to Umplebee, whoever he is?"

Female Human Bard 4

Can you read that creepy language? Where did you leave the necromancer, he might be able to read it.

Dungeon Master

@Florence

Kraztor! Get over here!" Rotskill calls to the sinister looking mage and waits impatiently for him to walk over. "Can you understand what this writing says? It appears to be written in some other way. The woman seems to think it may be the grave site we are looking for. What do you think?"

The necromancer replies, "I'm afraid I can't read it. The words appear to be in some infernal language. It is certainly not Taldan! Tell me, my lady, what makes you think this is the stone we are looking for?"

You still should have an eye on his friends though, dear. Let me propose something: I'll check out what they're going to do next, so that we can hinder them spoiling your plans. I'll just infiltrate their small round at the Stone Wyvern...you know, eavesdropping and such stuff. I'm sure I can present you some nice results soon enough.

Dungeon Master

@Florence.

"Yes, that would work well! Even if I can't torture the halfling any more, hurting his friends may make me feel better. This sounds like a plan, go ahead and find out what you can. I eagerly await any news you find out."

Female Human Bard 4

Florence departs with a blown kiss, a wink and a curtsy...

As soon as she is sure that no one followed her, she takes a very deep breath and grins. On the way back to the Stone Wyvern, she buys some sweets and enjoys the great day. But then her bad conscince makes her think...

I should really stop eating all these sweets...but they taste so godd...argh...

Dungeon Master

@Florence

You arrive back at the Stone Wyvern where you meet Lockstar hanging about the common room. "Oh it is you, dear. I want to say that your earlier song about the dwarf was not so bad, but I could tell that you were naturally intimidated by my presence. However, you still seem like a an adequate performer. If you are interested, I am looking for an opening act to start my performance at Velorian's tomorrow night. Would you be interested in opening for me? Naturally I couldn't pay you very much, but it may be good exposure for you."

Liberty's Edge

Male Halfling Thief/9 Init: +12 HP: 53 / 53 AC: 30 Touch: 21; Perception 15 (19 traps; TRAPSPOTTER)
Attacks:
Rapier: +15/+10 (+6 BAB, +6 Dex, +1 size, +2 ench); Bow +14/+9(+1) (+6 BAB, +6 Dex, +1 size, +1 bow/+1 acid arrow)

Is the guard we abused dead, or just unconscious?

While we wait for the apprehension of the "main guy," I'll address the surrendered guard. So, how'd you get into the slavery racket? What makes someone want to steal someone's freedom and destroy their families' lives for money?

While we're chatting I'll make a thorough examination of the carriage for what they're carrying, whether there are any hidden goodies, and whether the carriage itself is of value after it's repaired.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Female Human Bard 4

Florence is surprised by Lockstar's approach and even though she does not trust him, she is flattered by his offer.

Exactly about how little payment are we speaking, Mr. lockstar?

Male Human 2

Matthias rounds the corner with Humphrey and they both scan the street:
Humphrey Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Matthias Perception Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

If Matthias sees Nextic he will give chase.

Dungeon Master

There are two guards. One is unconscious and dying. The other is badly wounded.

The guard replies to your questions in anger. "Shut up you Twit! The life of a halfling is only worth half as much anyway. Hehe!"

@Matthias

Nextic's Stealth Check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

The slaver, Nextic Karastone, dives into an alleyway on the left side of the street, making his way toward the outer wall of the city.

@Florence

"You must realize dear, that I am doing this as a favor to you. I will give you 25 gold pieces for the gig. I don't think you will get such an offer from Velorian himself."

Female Human Bard 4

After licking some sugary remnants from her fingers, Florence puts her hand forth and says

Thirty and it's a deal!

Dungeon Master

@Florence

Lockstar eyes you for a moment and then replies, "Very well, but you better not screw up your act! Its a deal!"

The celebrity shakes your hand and then takes a napkin off of the table with which he wipes his hands clean.

Female Human Bard 4

Florence arches an eyebrow...then shrugs and walks over to the bar, waiting for her companions to return.

Dungeon Master

@Florence

Roland the barkeep comes over to you and asks, "What can I get for you, my lady?"

I'm unperturbed by the guard's bluster. My life's now worth more than YOURS, you scumbag.

I'll see if I can't staunch the dying slaver's wounds.

Yelling out: Matthias, you need some help? Don't let that blighter get away!!

then we'll bind up the up-and-atom guard, and get ready to head back into hte main part of town. I'd guess a trip to the authorities is in order, don't you guys think?

Male Human Paladin 9 (HP:68/102, AC: 28, Touch: 16; +10 Fort, +6 Reflex, +11 Will)

Mantooth approaches the guards, kneeling next to the dying guard that nearly everyone had a turn with and attempts to stabilize the man.

Heal Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

If the guard appears to be ceasing to lose blood, Mantooth searches him for keys to the carriage or anything else good.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Looking up to Bofus now, the paladin asks for his assistance. "Bofus, while you are conversing with that slaver would you mind relieving him of his key? I'd like to put these two in their own cell until we can get Captain Ulverth here."

Man-Dwarf Dwarf Ranger 9 (HP: 115/115, AC: 22, Flat: 19, Touch: 15, +14 Perception(+2 on Stonework/fe/ft) Hunter's Tricks: 6/6

Thordak sees that the Flute-man is running away, and decides to help Matthias.
Hope neither of you mind, thought Oi'd come along, too!

He runs and jumps up on the back of Humphrey's saddle, clambering up to sit behind Matthias.

Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Once he is situated, he draws his crossbow with one hand and holds on to Matthias with the other.

Ride: 1d20 ⇒ 12
