I'll go check out the carriage. You go around for a wide perimmeter of the building, see if htere's any good hiding places, stuff like that. Meet me back here in 10 minutes.

Thordak nods and heads off around the building, surveying the grounds and searching for clues and hide-outs as stealthily as possible.

Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

He then checks the door to see if it is open. If it is, he will peek inside, but not enter. If it is locked, he will go find Bofus at the carriage. Are the upstairs windows open?

Dungeon Master

@Bofus The carriage looks like it is very fancy, but at a close inspection, you realize that behind the curtains, there are iron bars over the windows. You notice the name of the carriage maker carved into the woodwork on the side of the carriage. In small letters they say the following.

Restar and Vanes
Custom Carriages
Westcrown, Cheliax.

@Thordak

Walking around the perimeter, you notice many trees and bushes around the warehouse. There are many good spots to hide if you were good at climbing, but there are still a few bushes around as well if you prefer staying on the ground. Around the back of the warehouse, you notice four great draft horses left in a small paddock where they are happily grazing. The horses do not seem to notice you.

The upstairs windows appear to be shut.

In each inner circle is one of the components above.
Each circle and rune is proceeded by an incantation.

Thordak heads back to the carriage and meets up with Bofus. Bofus, they've got some big ol' horses out back, look like they migh be fer pullin' this wagon... The doors are locked an' the windows upstairs are shut, but there are ways around that... Out back there are plenty o' trees an' bushes to hide in if anybody needs to. Oi wanna get inside this place, though... You think you could pick this lock without lettin' anybody know you've done it? If Oi can, Oi'd like to find a place in the warehouse, maybe upstairs, where Oi can watch the whole thing an' pick off some thugs if things get hairy... Wot d'ye think? Thordak asks in a whisper.

Male Human Paladin 9 (HP:68/102, AC: 28, Touch: 16; +10 Fort, +6 Reflex, +11 Will)

Taking a seat at the table where the parchment is in front of him, Mantooth thinks for a moment and then begins writing down some things that he thinks Cebrë should know.

" Mantooth - human paladin..
Matthias - human cleric and horse rider..
Bofus - halfling trickster..
Florence - human story-teller..
Thordak - dwarf smith and mud.."

Looking up for a moment, Mantooth looks to Matthias. "Thordak has the right idea, Matthias. We can't just attack Rotskill - we need to figure out how to use him and his thugs to find the leader. Surely you have had experience with such a thing when you were in the Brindol Lions? What's the best way to get to a criminal leader?"

Under the list of names Mantooth makes a new header, "Notable Events", beginning with how most of the party met at the Stone Wyvern as competitors of the tournament that was recently held in town where they met Florence later. He keeps the summary of the encounters with Rotskill somewhat vague and not writing down anything that could put them in harms way if the parchment was stolen, hoping it will jog her memory enough.

"..You found a dead old man..
..We killed a large, ice-breathing wolf..
..The Lord of Brindol has taking quite a liking to you and your singing and dancing..
"

When Mantooth's hand begins to tire and his penmanship begins to to dwindle, he pauses.

"Anyone want to have a look at this - See if I missed anything?"

Male Human 2

Matthias stands from the table and says:
Ah, I've forgotten some of my most important business I have to return to market street, will you all be here in an hour? I trust all of you to come up with a splendid plan! I shall return shortly and be ready to do my part.
With that Matthias dashes from the Wyvern as his newly adorned cloak whirls behind him in a dazzling display of decadency and desire.

Dungeon Master

@Those present at the Stone Wyvern

As Matthias opens the front door to run out, he is met by a half orc standing in the doorway with his arms full of travel trunks. He immediately barges in, pushing you to the side.

"Open door too slow! Make me mad! Prepare meet Great Lookstar!"

A richly dressed man strides into the inn with his blue star speckled robe flowing behind him. He has peppered white hair, a short beard, and your first impression is that he is very full of himself.

The name is Lockstar, you oaf. Get it right. I am Lockstar the Great. I am an entertainer extraordinaire and I am here to dazzle the good folk of Brindol with my charm, wit and natural talent. I was told that this is one of the nicest inns in the city. Naturally I expect nothing less than the best you have to offer. So, tell me about the room I will be staying in."

Selena, Yab's assistant, runs behind the desk and looks through the book. "Uhm, Uhm. . .I'm sorry Mr. Lockstar. Do you have a reservation?" she nervously asks.

"Are you trying to tell me that I need a reservation. My dear, you do not understand. I am Lockstar the Great. Of course I don't need a reservation!" Selena looks desperately at the books and then replies, "I will have to find Master Yab. I will be right back." Selena runs off quickly.

Lockstar looks around the common room and then comments to the half-orc. "This place is rather quaint, but what is that hideous statue doing in the common room? I really must talk to the owner and ask him to remove it."

I could open the lock easily enough--but I think they're inside already. I *might* be able to do it without anyone inside hearing, but I doubt it. I'm good, but even I have my limits!

Any way to tell whether they're inside? Tracks, noise, shadows, anything?

Another perception check to listen at the door.

Bofus or Thordak Perception DC15:
You are able to hear a discussion going on inside the warehouse between Rotskill and another. It sounds something like this,

"I want the wretched halfling dead." Rotskill asserts.
"But he is no use to me dead. He is worth more to me alive. I have a client that would also like to get her hands on him."
"Then use a sleeping poison or something. Because he is slippery as an eel."
"I wont need a sleep poison. I can do even better. I will bring a sorcerer than can put him to sleep with a spell."
"Fine, do whatever you need to, but don't say I didn't warn you."

Wow, see that?! Isn't that Lockstar, the one and only impressionario extraordinario?

Master Yab comes scurrying back with Selena close at his heels. "Good afternoon, Mister Lockstar! Welcome to my home. How may I help you?"

"Well, I am looking for your finest room available. I expect nothing less than the best!" Lockstar proclaims.

"Well, naturally," Yab replies, trying not to appear flustered. The gnome suddenly starts flipping through the pages of his registry in a panic. " We will have a room for you in just a moment, Mr. Lockstar!. " Turning to his assistant he whispers, "Selena, please remove Mr. Fortkeep's belongings and give him room 7. I will negotiate with him later.

Lockstar then announces to the gnome, "Travel gives me a great thirst. Please bring me a glass of your finest wine. I wish to visit with my fans while I wait." Walking further into the common room, the celebrity greets all of you. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Desna has blessed you with the opportunity to brush shoulders with fame. Obviously, I am Lockstar the Great."

I was thinking that same thing. I have my suspicions, so I'd like to confirm. let's see if I can't sidle up to a window, and . . .

You simply cannot believe that Lockstar the Great is actually staying in the same inn as you. Well, believe, my child, for I shall now prove it to you." The bard takes off his star covered cloak and flings it onto a nearby chair and then he pulls out a lute and begins to strum. He walks around the room, showing off his technique and dazzling showmanship. Soon a most enchanting song comes out of his mouth. He walks around the room and wanders up to Florence where bends down on one knee and sings to her as if she was his muse.

Lockstar’s Song of Love:

What is it with Love
That makes me
then breaks me?

When in love
Do I truly love?

Is it really love
Or do I think that I love?

Maybe I just love being in love
Or love the idea of being in love?

I spent my whole life chasing thee.
In the end the one thing I truly love
is that I am in love with me.

It is priceless to me. The object is less of an it and more of a who, he is my noble steed Humphrey, you may know him the winner of the steeple chase. A rival of mine has been very interested in obtaining him of late, Veressa Kaal. I am worried that she will resort to thievery in order to obtain him and I cannot risk that happening.

Well,” Lockstar replies dryly. That is not bad, but have you heard the ‘Ballad of the Border’

Ballad of the Border:

March, march, Eldir and Elsirvale,
Why the devil did you march forward in order!
March, march, Umok and Eldir,
All the Hellknights are bound for the Border.
Many a banner spread,
Flutters above your head,
Many a crest that is famous in story.
Mount and make ready then,
Sons of the Wyrmsmoke,
Fight for the Houses and our old Cheliaxian glory.

Come from the hills where your sheep are grazing,
Come from the glen of the buck and the roe;
Come to the crag where the beacon is blazing,
Come with the buckler, the lance, and the bow.
Trumpets are sounding,
War-steeds are bounding,
Stand to your arms, then, and march in good order;
Isger shall many a day
Tell of the bloody fray,
When the Hellknights came over the Border.

There is nothing like the emotional surge you get from singing a powerful song from one's own homeland. It almost gives a tear to the eye, doesn't it? Lockstar turns a glance at Florence, " . . . or do you prefer to hang out with dwarves?"

Hmmmmm . . . coincidence? There *are* a lot of people around for the tournament . . .

Um, pardon me, sir, but I couldn't help but wonder. Why would a bard as famous and as talented as yourself show up *after* the end of this locale's biggest event of the year? I mean, perhaps I'm oversimplifying things, but you'd have increased your fame tremendously had you performed while practically the entire Vale was here.

Sense Motive (vs. reply specifically): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
I'm also watching the half orc carefully. If necessary:
Sense Motive (vs. 1/2orc): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Oh yes, Mantooth would surely love to join the hellknights, hang out at the torture chamber or next to the block on the marketsquare...oh yeah and don't forget the nice spikey armor...sooo cute.

she rolls with her eyes and tries to remember if she ever heard of that Lockstar guy back in Galt.

”Yes, I heard about the Elsir Vale Tournament of Heroes. That would have been a splendid idea. In fact we tried to reach Brindol in time for the tournament, but we were waylaid by goblins along the Dawnway up in the Wyrmsmoke mountains. We nearly lost my carriage, and we actually needed to replace the wheel. We would have been quickly slain if it wasn’t for my quick wit and skill. With the use of a small illusion, I frightened off the little fiends. But alas, here I am. Although, I may be late, at least Brindol will still have the opportunity to experience Lockstar the Great!”

@Florence

You do not ever recall hearing of a famous or infamous bard by the name of Lockstar.

Given my rather extensive knowledge of the local geography and fauna, does his story sound plausible?

Knowledge: Local--1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Also, any result from either Sense MOtive check based on his reply (targeting him, and his muscle)?

It doesn't sound like yer Precious Hellknights did ye much good when the goblins attacked! Now who would go an' name themselves the Hellknights anyhow? Maybe they're doomed to hell 'cause o' how bad they are with their swords? Maybe they're just cowards an' they wanna scare people so they don't ever have to fight 'em at all...hrmm...that might explain the spikes, too...Hrah! These Hellknights sound like they're compensatin' fer sumthin!

Thordak nods in agreement. Yup! Oi most certainly do, ye sparkle-toed sot!

Thordak sees the Half-Orc's fidgeting and waves him over with his hand. Hey wot about you, mister "basher-of-man-who-annoy-me?" Did those nasty goblin-boblins scare you?

Oops! Sorry about that.

Lockstar appears to be telling the truth or bluffling very well when he replies. However, the half orc looks like he is uncomfortable hearing the short tale of the goblins. You are not clear why.

Oh, I think I can work with that. I'll wait until Lockstar is talking with Thordak, as Thordak has been rather insulting. ONce Lockstar is engaged, I'll quietly address the half-orc.

So, goblins, eh? I know the goblin tribes around those mountains well! There's really only 2 main tribes, the Gochnar goblins, who always use their tribe name as a war cry, and the Plechnoch goblins, who wear bright green feather headdresses. Which one attacked you?

Female Half-Elf Wizard/2

Cebrë walks in the door and immediately notices Lockstar and the half-orc.
She looks at Bofus and nods to the newcomers,

These two aren't with you guys are they?
Anyway...I see something has been written on my parchment - you have my thanks

She walks over and begins reading what Mantooth has written.

Oh my! You sure do know much about goblins. Hmm? I certainly cannot recall what they shouted for their battle cry, and I don't think I can remember what they were wearing at the time. They all look the same to me." Lockstar replies.

The half orc then approaches Bofus and and says, "They from the ShutyourtrapbeforIbashyou Tribe!"

Trabalard comes back, from stowing away Lockstar's heavy box in the Inn's treasure chest, and politely addresses the bard, "If you are ready, Mr. Lockstar, I am ready to show you your room at this point."

"That would be splendid, my good gnome. I must retire and prepare for tomorrow nights big performance. Naturally, I will need my rest. Good afternoon, people. !"

Huh, you sound a might sore about that, there, Orcy! Did you shut your trap before they bashed you? Or did you get a few good whacks in the face from their tiny clubs? Oi hate to ask, but Oi just couldn't tell otherwise... Thordak says, stepping up beside Bofus.

Does Half-Orc count as goblinoid?

No, Orc and Half-Orc do not count as goblinoid?

The half orc draws his dagger and prepares to stab Thordak, when Lockstar calls out to him. "Stay the blade, Mister Rogback! Don't waste your time on them. Besides, I need you to stay out of trouble. We don't want a recurrence of Nimon Gap now, do we?! I believe it is time for us to see our rooms. Good day to all of you."

Trabalard escorts Lockstar the Great and Mr. Rogback up the stairs to their room. The common room is empty other than yourselves and Roland at the bar.
