Valrani nods to Lirotha's suggestion. She spends half an hour drawing up a contract for herself to investigate the ownership and condition of suitable buildings for running a public house and gets Lirotha to sign it with an alias.

Secrecy 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
From the handout above, it looks like we have a +11 secrecy modifier. I’m not sure if rolling high is good or bad, but I hope it is good, lol.
Lirotha Karsani |
Well done Orin! Sorry...I was going to do that tonight, but got too busy updating my character. Oh well..! Back to work. =/
DM Elan Morin |
Well done indeed...
After finishing speaking to the Lictor you briefly wonder if you took all the precautions needed to make sure no one overheard your discusison. After reflecting on the issue you banish your fears as you feel pretty confident no one eavesdropped on your conversation.
_Valrani |
"What about spells that may help as see hidden things? If there is a cult of theives and assassins, surely they will be skilled at such things. My eyes are good, but I'm not skilled at spotting or removing traps..."
_Valrani |
During the downtime, Valrani goes shopping and purchases a beautiful circlet. Going below into the cavern she sits at the edge of the waters and meditates. She contemplates the beauty of the water, and also its magestic power. As the young druid sits her hands work unconsciously at the small not-quite-crown.
Her thoughts reach out, even as her hands dip it in the waters, slowly working the waters into the fabric of the metal itself. Time passes as she sits there, eyes miles away, hands busy and mind contemplating the waters.
When finally she comes to from her medative state the circlet has changed, taking on aspects of the cavern waters themselves - echoing their beauty and power.
She glances down idly at the wonder in her hands, smiling to herself. Slowly she unwinds herself and rises to her feet, the new treasure in her hands. Climbing up to the coffee shop she goes in search of Morricone.
"This certainly won't help you pass unnoticed. But I think you might find it worth your while."
_Valrani |
The next day our aspiring lawyer can be found mixing oils in the silence of the watery cavern. However oil and water rarely mix well.
"If only I had some better tools...." she sighs, after yet another ruined batch of production.
"Hey...." Most of the day wasted, she heads up into Kintargo looking for someone who can help.
Looking to buy masterwork tools to help with spellcraft! Why didn't I do this earlier?
Talon Bishop |
"I have a little spare change, maybe I can help you find those tools." Talon offers and then, if Val agrees, he will join her in the shopping spree.
_Valrani |
Valrani goes shopping with Talon, looking for some fine measures and weights. Glass of the highest quality, and a mortar and pestle of unusually pure materials. She asks around for a priest of Torag who might bless a worktable, and of Nethus for the blessing of a cloth to cover it. Lastly she seeks out a library and acquires a few primers on the finer art of magical item creation.
Misc items that hopefully can contribute to a "masterwork tool" for spellcraft. 50gp
Then she sets it up in her undergrond shrine by the soothing waters of the lake, where she sets to work once again.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 = 24
Finally she brings forth a vial of liquid that captures the gently laping sound of the waves, quashing other more violent sounds as a wave might a small sandcastle.
Lirotha Karsani |
Val? We should probably give the Circlet you made to Talon. He has plenty of personal skills and a decent Charisma already. Any new characters that come in will purchase/bring their own magical items, and probably won't need this one anyway.
Oren Mitabu |
Yes, indeed!
Rocco Hardweather |
At some point, I think Kurglunn could benefit from one of those as well. Or an amulet of natural armor instead. As far as Rocco goes, I think a metamagic rod should be on the shopping list for him, but that'll have to wait.

Just before the Longroads Coffee House closes, a tall half-elf woman with long flowing silver hair strides into the place. the breastplate she has on is polished to a heavy shine glinting red in the setting sun. She flicks her long multi-hued cloak from in front of her legs, revealing a heavy bar mace, that has an x like cross-section and her a slightly less shiny buckler strapped to her arm. Her dress underneath the armor, is made of a fine green brocade fabric with paisley designs in thread that hints of the multihued colors from her cloak.
She stands, statuesque, just inside the door and gives the place a calculatedly uninterested look, nose high, brow arched. When her eyes settle on Rocco, Oren and Lirotha, she breaks into a smile. A final glance around the place to ensure they are alone, she moves closer to the three and in a loud voice starts to sing.
To the tune of ‘Be our Guest’ but horribly, horribly mangled (I gave up towards the end). Don’t know if I’ll be able to try filks like this much.
♫"I want in, I want in,
I heard all the din.
Silver Ravens are the place to be
I want to join your rebellion!
I saw your rescue
Not the night before
And realized, ‘it’s your cue
Stop hiding, get your due!’
I can sing, I can act,
And, darling, that’s a fact
I’ll be entertaining and distracting
While you finish attacking
Test me out, and you’ll find
You’ll want me, yes siree
You’ll want me.
Because
I’m. The. Best. I’m the best.
The 5th best singer in town
But the only one who’s still aroun’
Don’t believe me, ask Rexus
He’ll tell you I’m a plexus
Here let me show you
I’ll manage things for you
Don’t tell me no,
I already know
So 'fore I let secrets flow
You should give me a go!” ♫
She stops for a moment, almost seeming to expect some applause.
After a moment she levels eyes with Vistacosta, in a look that brokers no question and waits for him to show her where to go. True to her song, she picks up the papers at the desk and reads them. After a second, she starts in song again.
♫“Seems you have a Demagogue!
Oh my gaw’
Better send him to the synagogue,
I’m the only demagogue you’ll need
Indeed
You’ll thank when everyone’s freed.
You need more supporters,
Recruit, my friends, recruit
We’ve got the living quarters,
Why not have the people to suit?
And certainly we should earn more coin
It’d be best to possess
Whether we sell, trade, or purloin
We need to show our noblesse” ♫
With a few short lines of song, she strikes Morricone form the manifest and adds her own, before writing up orders in a fancy almost lyrical script for the Fushi Sisters to find some more cash and the team of street performers to go gather some more supporters.

THe tian woman stands open mouthed at the half elf, who had found them, knew all about them, and had even prepared a song for them. She looked around, half expecting someone to be playing a joke on her. When no one yelled ‘surprise,’ the warrior moved forward.
”I’m Oren. And how do you know.....everything, it seems? Was it Rexus? wand welcome I guess,” she said as the woman seemed to make herself at home and joined right in helped the group about their tasks.
Lirotha Karsani |
Lirotha raises one eyebrow, while shuffling her Harrow deck, and speaks aloud suspiciously to Laria.
"Who's the new pretty flower?"
Rocco Hardweather |
As the stranger steps into the inn and...announces herself, Rocco Hardweather sits leaning his head in his hands on the table. "Great," he moans, "another performer. And this one comes up with clever songs to give away our life story too! Geez. Well make yourself at home I guess. Not that there's any stopping you. I'm Rocco, by the way."
Kurglunn the Runner |
Meanwhile, the back wall of the common room gleams faintly for a moment, until the ectoplasmic form of a half orc with a curious expression on his face passes through it. As Kurglunn enters the room and hears the song, he pays rapt attention to the performance, then begins to clap his hands and guffaw heartily. "Yaaaay," he shouts as Elurius finishes her song, "Good song lady! Do another one!"
Talon Bishop |
Talon walks in and catches the end of the tune. With eyes wide he looks over at the rest of the group and points to the newcomer and mouths the words "Who dat?" at the group.
Then walks over. "What a lovely, tune. Talon, Talon Bishop." he says introducing himself.
DM Elan Morin |
In a similar way to his cousin, the mercurial Morricone informs you he decided the Silver Ravens are not the group for him after all. Being a wanted man due to some of his most salacious compositions the bard leaves town in disguise, searching fortune in Varisia and beyond.
Losing one of the rebellion's architects could prove fatal for the renewed Silver Ravens. Fortunately the movement you created attracted several strong and courageous people, a few of them capable of assuming a role of leadership inside the Silver Ravens. This is the case of the half elf Elurius whose talent you immediately recognize as she boldly steps up and proposes herself as your new demagogue. Much debate later Elurius gets the promotion she sought and you are free to plan your next move: assault on the Lucky Bones!
DM Elan Morin |
The charred ruins of the Lucky Bones stand at the southwestern edge of the city, surrounded by warehouses. The ruins themselves are picked over—very little remains but rubble, a tangle of timbers, and three partially collapsed brick fireplaces. To casual observation, the ruins look entirely abandoned, but you know better...
Thanks to Lictor Octavio's instructions you get a +10 to your skill checks to locate the real Lucky Bones entrance

"Look over there... a trail" points Valrani as the keen eyed lawyer works her way through the rubble. "Someone has been he...STOP"
She calls out mid sentence. "A hidden trapdoor. And well maintained. This place is still in use.."
She makes sure to drink her anti-toxin. "We should take those potions now... a poisoned dagger could already have our names on it."
Taking a small berry from her pouch she quickly chomps down on it.
Oren Mitabu |
Oren takes her antitoxin as well. She steps to the lead of the group when the door was pointed out to her. ”Anyone wants to check for traps before I open this up?”
Lirotha Karsani |
Lirotha keeps a watch on the surrounding area while Casting Mage Armor on herself then drinking her Anti-Toxin. She then pulls her tied rag up over her mouth to cover most of her face below her eyes.
"Mask's on. Let's move quickly. If they have lookouts or magical alarms, they will probably already know we are here as soon as we open the door. Keep alert my pretties."
The Hound Of Kintargo |
Is it day or evening. I'll assume it's evening in which case, the Hound will be there.
"Hrm..."
The Hound turns away from anyone watching and pulls his mask down to drink the antitoxin before covering his face again and then walks to the rest of the group in silence. His musket slung over his shoulder and fedora pulled low.
Rocco Hardweather |
Rocco dons his own monstrous mask after drinking an anti-toxin along with the rest of the group. He helps Kurglunn do the same before using one of his many magical scrolls to give the phantom further magical protection.
Scroll of Mage Armor used on Kurglunn, who is manifested in ectoplasmic form
With that done, he draws nearer to the trap door to check it for traps with Oren.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Elurius Parthreon |
Finally getting the applause she expected from earlier, though sadly from a ghostly apparition, Elurius gives a deep bow, before bouncing up and singing in an inquiring lilt.
♫"It's a pleasure,
Talon, Rocco, Oren,
Uh, Harrow, Coffee and uh... Bob?
So do I win?
Do I get the job?"♫
After a moment she gives a sharp intake or breath.
♫"Ah, right I should give my name!
I am Elurius Parthreon,
Perhaps you've heard of House Parthreon,
Yes, I'm from the same!"♫
Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
She's lying blatantly about her noble ties, and probably her name too!
In front of the Lucky Bones, Elurius gives the sleeves of her opulent dress a tweak as she focuses for a second. The garment then changes into a still expensive looking black dress covered in birds outlined in silver that extends up all the way over the bottom half of her face. She gives a look around and pulls out a bound note book and some charcoal and quickly writes out a message. Anyone have an extra potion? I can try avoiding getting hit, but just in case.
After a second she catches sight of the sixth new party member. The large silver wings on her mask hiding her 'O' of surprise, she scribbles out another sentence, Also who's the chump with the gun and fedora?
DM Elan Morin |
@Talon: It's night time actually
After making certain the hidden door is not trapped the Silver Ravens descend into the darkness below...
If you want light you'll need to provide your own illumination. Assuming you do...
Below the trap door, a flight of stairs descends into a partially collapsed basement. The air is thick with the cloying reek of garbage and decay, and clouds of fat flies buzz about, making it doubly unpleasant to breathe within the dank chamber. A wooden door, reinforced with rusting iron strips, sits in the eastern wall.
The smell is such that everyone of you needs to roll fortitude
Down at ground level 3 fanged and tentacled monstrosities roar in your direction...

Most of the Silver Ravens manage to overcome their reaction to the terrible stench making the air in the underground chamber barely breathable. Not so Kurglunn, who starts to vomit a strange greenish substance, probably the ectoplasm's essence itself.

The sphere moves as long as you actively direct it (a move action for you); otherwise, it merely stays at rest and burns. It can be extinguished by any means that would put out a normal fire of its size. The surface of the sphere has a spongy, yielding consistency and so does not cause damage except by its flame. It cannot push aside unwilling creatures or batter down large obstacles. A flaming sphere winks out if it exceeds the spell’s range.

Seeing the deep darkness of the tunnel as the trapdoor is opened, Elurius stuffs her notebook and charcoal back into her small bag and pulls out a little stone.
