Seeing both Nargun and Atticus paralyzed by the wand, Twilight provides Mirella Callistria's more potent favour to both ward her from the wand's magic and improve her already impressive archery.

"The Lady's kiss for good luck" she makes the motion of kissing her fingers through the scarf and caresses Mirella's neck.

Mirella: Bit of luck, roll all d20's twice taking the better result for 1 round.

Nargun Firehelm wrote:

No save vs the paralyzation, if you are hit with melee touch attack. The spell is Ghoul Touch and in this case its coming from a wand which does not provoke AoO.

EDIT: That didn't strike me as right, so after reading some forum posts, I think i misinterpreted the "fortitude negates" to mean the secondary effect, when its really supposed to be for both the primary and secondary effect. Apologies, but don't think it matters now anyway.

Vreeg's Chamber - Round 6 - concluded

20 Atticus (9hp dmg, paralyzed 3 rounds)
19 Vreeg (flying 10' off ground, 68hp dmg)
18 Mirela (5hp dmg)
17 Nargun (10hp dmg, raging 5 round)
10 Devan (5hp dmg, sickened 3 rounds)
3 Twilight

With the flying derro right atop her, Mirela fires twice, bracing for an attack, but the derro only holds a wand, and no weapon, so the attack never happens.

the sharpshooting priestess lets fly with a pair of arrows at extreme close range. the first is deflected away by the derro's magic spell. The second, while not a critical hit, causes enough damage to down the flying necromancer who collapses to the floor in a heap.

End of Combat

Down with the bad guy! Look in Discussion for Post-Combat Summary.

As Vreeg falls, the wand drops from his hand and clatters on the floor next to his still corpse. The tattooed right arm and torso stop twitching and attacking when the derro goes down, and seem to lie still once again.

The room has a few bookshelves, with a just a few books there, and an iron coffer sitting on one of the shelves as well.

After all the fighting, the quiet of the Dead Warrens starts to concern you. Within about 30 seconds, Nargun and the Professor become animated once more, ending their paralysis.

As the threats seem to disappear Mirela looks around in concern, not quite sure if it is all over.

Twilight, Devan... Thank you... Is it really over?

As the silence stretches she looks about the room for more threats glancing in concern at her two companions that aren't moving, but as the Dwarf and Professor start to move again some of the tension comes out of her face.

Then she drops to her knees, looks up and and throws her arms wide.
Thank you Estig the 'unter for gifting me your training, skill and protection. By your 'and 'ave you have removed a sickness from this city and protected my family. For that I praise your name.

Twilight watched the necromancer fall with satisfaction. "Oh, my only regret is that I did not get the pleasure of dispatching Lamm a second time." she idly fingered her holy symbol, the one she had anointed with Lamms final despairs during their last meeting.

As Mirella gave thanks Twilight smiled under her scarf "Thank you Mirella, for your appreciation of Callistria's aid. I know others have already expressed their appreciation of your archery, so let me just say that that was an exemplary display of Old Deadeye's gifts.".

As she briefly glanced over the room her eyes came to rest on the books and a strange realization began to dawn on her. "By Callistria's heaving bosom, could it be...?"

She carefully begins to peruse the books on the shelf.

Devan had been getting ready to pull out his rapier and join the fray in a last-ditch effort to down the little necromancer, but Mirela's sharpshooting again proved to be on point and the derro was overcome by his wounds, falling to the floor. The bard smiled softly at the redhead as she uttered her thanks for the small bit of aid he had provided along with the greater utility offered by Twilight, but he resisted the urge to rush forward as she began to give praise to both her own God and Calistria for the assist.

As Mirela recovered from the harrowing ordeal, and Twilight displayed an interest in the necromancer's book collection, Devan wandered over to the now-still arm and torso, thinking that the tattoos made it a likely match for the other parts they had assembled of the young Shoanti man. As Nargun regained his faculties once again, the musician brought over the macabre trophy and helped to stuff it in the body sack. Devan thought that he might just let the Shoanti keep the burlap sack after all this.

Devan frowned after the grisly task was complete, looking around at the rest of the group. "Looks like we're short a pair of legs. Hopefully this wretch was the last of the guardians of this foul place." If no one had taken a look at the coffer at this point, the young man would inspect it for any obvious traps, then would pick it up and see what was inside if it didn't look like it would explode upon contact.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

The scattering of books on the shelf is small, but esoteric. A few necromancy textbooks that Twilight remembers from her time in the field, a few darker tomes that might get you kicked out of the Acadamae, and what appears to be a spellbook of the derro wizard.

The torso and arm do seem to match the rest of the body you have recovered so far, and you stuff it into the sack with the other parts.

Devan looks inside the small coffer which is not locked. Inside there are two silver rings, a gold and pearl bracelet, a hip flask made of mithral and emblazoned with the etching of a house drake, and what appears to be a 12-inch iron bar, fitted with various plates and spikes along its interval.

Twilight does not have Read Magic memorized at present, unless she adds the cantrip at level up. As such, it will take some significant time to see what's in the spellbook, at least right now. Let's just say, likely a very useful find. The jewelry etc have been added to the Loot Tracker. Will take a DC 20 Appraise to accurately value.

Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Devan looked at the jewelry found inside the coffer, getting a quick estimate off the cuff like he used to when...he helped out at a jewelers. By selling them new merchandise. That he had gotten very legally.

Appraise Bracelet: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Appraise Flask: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Devan, who has been seen looking around jewelry stores recently, is able to gauge accurately the value of the twin silver rings (100gp each) but the bracelet and the handiwork on the flask elude his knowledge of the subject.

Twilight's eyes lit up as she perused the books. "Callistria be praised. I have been irked by the need to descend into this awful place, and yet it did not occur to me that The Savoured Sting has led me here for a reason. These tomes contain the knowledge that I have sought in the past. Knowledge that I was punished for pursuing. And now here it is, laid out before me for the taking."

She glanced through the spell book. There was much here that was illegible, she would need to prepare the proper rituals to interpret the necromancer's writings so she went back to skimming the other volumes "Yes, much of these treatises are on the subject of animating the dead." she said without looking up from the book,"A pursuit I have no interest in so you can stop looking at me like that. But there is still enough here on other applications that I am particularly interested in, especially with regard to the nature of curses. Like this one here for instance, a hex to steal someone's sight or hearing." She trails off for a moment, reading the theory behind the spell. It was one that she had been particularly interested in before her expulsion from the Acadamae.

Even though she was just skimming the entry it provided just enough new information that when added to what she already knew, the particulars of the spell started to fall into place.

Missing legs... Well I do be remembering that there be a passage a couple rooms back that we did not go into. Maybe the legs do be down there.

As she continues to search the body she quietly says:
You know it do be a shame we don't be 'aving any of Gaekhen's clothing... I wonder if I could 'eal the wolf and convince it to track down the legs like a hunting dog... Hmmm... I....

However her musing is cut short as she hears Twilight talk about the book.
As her friend(?) announces she isn't interested in animating the dead her face goes from horrified to concerned.
Just be careful Twilight, while I could see the use of a 'ex like that on bad people, it seems like curses could be easily misused. I think we do all be trying to 'elp the city, not 'urt the good people here. In the wrong 'ands spells like that can ruin a person's life.

"Then" Twilight snapped the book shut and started putting the tomes into the backpack as she turned to Mirella with a twinkle in her eye "Its a good thing that this knowledge is now in the right hands."

Even with the scarf on it was apparent that Twilight was grinning as she gave Mirella a wink and went back to filling the pack. "I promise that these will only be used on people who deserve it." she said.

As Devan pondered the bracelet and the flask, or rather his ignorance of their value, he overheard the conversation between the two ladies and the necromantic texts Twilight had picked up. While the musician thought the idea of who might deserve such a penalty to be highly subjective, especially to a worshipper of the Goddess of Revenge, the young man wisely kept his mouth closed. Quirky as some of her viewpoints might be, the half-elf had grown into a trusted ally, so he'd leave the matter alone.

Instead, Devan spoke about one of his new-found favorite things, agreement with Mirela. "Yes, I do believe there was a passageway we left unexplored in the room where the flying insects were trying to drain our blood. Let's see if maybe our wayward legs are down there. If not, we can give the place a last look-over, then if we're still short legs maybe we'll get a pass?" The bard doubted it...the Shoanti shaman had seemed adamant on the return of Gaekhan's body, and anything less than 100% would probably not be ok.

As Devan speaks up about the passage by the insectes Mirela responds.
Let's check the closer passage, then the farther one as soon as we are done with examining these items. After all it seems like this is a dead end.

Oh and does anyone know how to destroy these bodies so they can not be raised again?

Then Mirela studies the items for a bit and adds her little knowledge to what the professor knows:

Devan assents to checking the door off of the lab first, as it did seem wise to check a portal on the way than to backtrack later. As the others identified the loot they had obtained within the cavern complex, the musician went to the door and looked around it and on it to check for any surprises that might be in store.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Once he was done, he went back to check in with the others and find what they had figured out about the goodies they were now in possession of. Most of it seemed quite valuable...but the bard kept his greed in check. Wealth needed markets to be spent, and markets didn't thrive in war-ravaged cities, which is what Korvosa would surely become in the Shoanti decided to engage in warfare over Gaekhan's corpse.

Have you took everything you wanted or needed on that derro? Cause I have a few things of my own I wanna give him.

If everyone acquiece, Nargun walks toward Lamm's and the derro's cadavers. He talks to the dead necromancer, as if he was still alive, and the barbarian seems lost in his own world.

You know, you shouldn't have done that. Bringing back Lamm from the dead, even like this? That's not a thing to do. You're giving false hope to those who mourn someone they love, who would give their whole earthly possessions, their heart, their breath, their dreams, their name, to bring back from Pharasma's realm the one they cherish over eveytghing else. And to bring theme back like this? Like a corpse with no soul, an empty vessel devoid of everything that made the person someone special? That's a real bad deed. That's a sin.

Nargun sits the dead derro against the wall, then walks toward Lamm's body.

I thought I was done with Lamm, you know. That maybe, I could start to find solace, as the one who killed my beloved was dead. And you bring him back, again? You're shredding my heart into pieces again? My former life is no more, and you're torturing me with all my past happiness? There is a price to pay for that. I don't like what you've done, cutting people apart.

He drags his big axe on the ground, provoking a disturbing metallic sound. There's an eerie smile on Nargun's lips, but the rest of his face is as hard as stone.

I don't want you to come back from the dead, derro. I don't want you to play your insane games with other people's dead. You're driving me crazy with that, you know, derro? Now it's time you learn your lesson. It's time for payback. Watch. Because what I'm doing to Lamm, I'll do it to you, right after.

Nargun watches Lamm's body.He weeps openly, his face now a mask of pain, anger, and remorse.

I'm sorry, my beloved, I couldn't protect you from that man. I hope this will bring you some satisfaction, that you will know a little peace, in your grave, wherever it might be.

Lamm....Lammm..Lamm..LAMM....LAMM..LAMM!

He pants, as the powerful rage overcome him again. The axe rises, and strikes, chopping members, cutting head, destroying Lamm remains until there is Nothing left to reanimate.

Covered in blood and gore, Nargun drags the derro corpse on the ground, and cuts his head first, tossing it aside before butchering the rest of the corpse.

Finally, his anger mostly gone, with weary muscles, the dwarf silently cuts the head of the third zombie.

Using my remaining rounds of Rage, as you see fit (don't know how long it would take to cut a corpse in small bit). Maybe not a wise choice strategically but makes for good roleplaying

"The wand should go to Twilight. She can always use it. And Twilight I guess you want the scolls of false life, too. You can write them in your spellbook. And I can copy it down from there.

As he started back from inspecting the door (assuming no big bads come out to play), Devan heard the Professor speaking to the others, and oddly enough the sound of Nargun engaged in a separate conversation. Mirela exclaimed as he made it close to the door, and his eyes flew wide with alarm as the musician heard the awful clamoring of the axe striking stone, dirt, bone, and flesh in rapid succession. As the priestess grabbed him and guided him back into the room he had been about to exit, he relaxed very slightly...there was no enemy for the party to vanquish, at least no physical enemy. Nargun's emotional outrage at the sudden return of Lamm's corpse seemed to have spilled over, so probably best to let it play out.

Instead, he walked with Mirela back into the room, gesturing to the door. "This door, then the passageway off the flying bug room, if it doesn't pan out. Hopefully we'll find our wayward appendages there...otherwise there'll be war. And I'd rather not spend my time after this fending off Shoanti invaders." The bard smiled at the priestess, putting his arm around her as they walked and squeezing her shoulder reassuringly.

"I'll hold on to the haversack for now" said Twilight as she continued to stuff books into it. "The wand is interesting, but we might want to find some way for you to avoid the stench if I end up using it on anyone."

As she was finishing up, she watched Nargun with curiosity as he started to line up the corpses. As he dragged his axe out she anticipated what was to come next and hurridly finished collecting the tomes before quickly vacating the room. "The results are crude, but he certainly has passion. I wonder if I can harness that."

As she joined Mirela and Devon Twilight said "A touch more violent than I would prefer, but I don't think we are going to have to worry about seeing Lamm in any form ever again. We should give him a few moments to get it out of his system before we move on."

The adventurers discuss how to split up parts of the loot, as Nargun lines up the corpses of Lamm and his fallen allies. His sorrowful rage gets the better of him and he massacres the corpses, destroying them beyond recognition.

Devan, Mirela and Twilight enter the room which appears to be a library. Two wide, freestanding bookshelves furnish this room. The shelves are filled with row upon row of carefully arranged tomes and scrolls.

The books seems to be treatises and tomes on necromancy, the art of creating golems, and a surprisingly large number of books on diseases and plagues.

Searching here on any of the above topics grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge checks.

Devan nodded his head in agreement with Twilight's assessment of the Nargun Situation, going with the other non-dwarves through the door to the apparent library as their barbarian companion raged away.

The musician helped to look around, his brow furrowing as he scanned through the texts. What a strange lot, to be dabbling in disease, plague, golems, and necromancy, but he supposed it took a sick mind to be fascinated with any one, let alone all four. Still, hopefully the group's work here would throw a wrench into whatever plans this Rolth might have in the works. Devan made a mental note to remind himself to insist that they destroy everything they weren't taking with them.

Once everyone was gathered up and had looked around, the young man shrugged, then said, "I guess the other passage off the bug room, then?" There was a word for what had been going on in the room, but the bard couldn't think of it. De-blooding...bloodletting, desalination, something like that.

There do be a lot of books here... How would you think we can get them all out?

I really don't be liking the idea of leaving any of these for Lamm to come back to. So anything we leave, maybe we should burn?

Many of the most important books fit inside Twilight's seemingly bottomless haversack. It's not hard to put the remainder in a pile and set it afire, should you all agree.

Leaving the library behind, you work your way back through the Warrens to one unexplored area, just of the Exsanguination Chamber.

The majority of this room contains a nasty-looking stretch of mud - a partially collapsed sinkhole -- kept damp by rivulets of water seeping in from the walls. A patch of solid ground extends into the mud to form an island, on which is heaped a reeking pile of body parts. To the north, a rickety wheelbarrow sits on its side against a wall.

Wallowing in the mud on the south side of the room is filthy otyugh, a creature you have fought before. It stands up and shouts WARM FOOD! at you, and moves to attack!

Once again, Twilight was unable to see what was going on up front. The groups had stopped suddenly and Atticus had suddenly cast a spell so she was confident that there was something up ahead. She had to figure out some way to mitigate this problem.

At least she could see Nargun. "Callistria's protection is upon you Nargun." she called out, raising her holy symbol and letting the divine warmth flow through her and suffuse Nargun.

"What is up there?"

Seeing the garbage-eating creature, Atticus brings forth the mysterious powers of the occult to infuse his weapon with more weight and force, which will increase damage dealt.

Behind him, Twilight knows that a powered-up Nargun is to everyone's benefit and see calls on Calistria's favor to protect the barbarian, who exacted his own revenge just moments before.

Mirela moves into the room and sends an arrow hurtling at the otyugh, but the shot caroms off its thick skin without effect.

The monster roars with delight. "PLAY WITH FOOD! YUM!!! and sloshes forward through the midden towards Mirela. Biting at her with its great maw as it closes. Fortunately, the otyugh is more interested in playing than biting and the jaws snap on air only.

The fierce dwarf leaps into the fray against the otyugh. As he closes in, one of the disgusting beast's tentacles whips past Nargun's head, but he ducks under and makes a powerful attack that just glances off the rubbery hide of the otyugh.

Looking for a post from Devan to close the round. Will start the 24 hour clock now, due to site issues.

Will run Devan for now, just to keep things going. It is past the 24hr rule; I realize it is a holiday weekend so he may be tied up.

The Dump - Round 1 - concluded

Using his lute, Devan strums a tune intended to keep his allies fighting skills honed to their finest. He has his rapier out in case the fight gets out of hand, but for now, his concentration is on the music, which rises in tenor and tempo as the fight proceeds.

Mirela steps back and, seeing the thing distracted by a charging dwarf, lets herself be carried away by her lovers music. With practiced motion she draws and fired two more of her remaining arrows at the beast.

But she’s clearly focused on watching its lashing tentacles and that throws her aim off.

She calls back behind her:
Be carful. That thing’s tentacles reach farther then they do be lookin’ like.
