Fritz Fritzman |
Fritz nods and moves to the front with his shield out
Whimpering Wombats! It is almost as if someone is playing a game with us!
are we able to collect our weapons as we leave or are we unarmed?
Vitæ Somnium |
Back!
DM was away since late Thursday, but would like to add one thing please.
Going to the shed for the firewood, if I recall correctly from our first visit, there were toys of sorts there? Vitæ would have asked for help and collected them and then given them to Winter for the children in the Chapel if possible.
Vitæ Somnium |
Rocksauce has been watching you.
Before leaving for this side trek.
"Would you like to come with us? You know a great many things, and I would wager you would prefer to stretch your legs and get away from the tedium here anyways."
(Whisper) And it will annoy our friendly Wizard.
Vitæ offers Rocksauce to join, the last part he says with a wink.
Vitæ Somnium |
If you need a roll for Rocksauce DM
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
edit - Sweet! Er ... maybe I should have saved that for Initiative.
Vitæ Somnium |
"Let's put Vitae at the back with me, then, and Ghelik up front where he can see things first."
i still keep confusing Vitae and Nameless...
To be fair here, Vitæ is most likely taller and much paler than the Oracle. And nicer smelling hair.
With a crossbow and very short range spells, Vitæ has been in the second row normally, covering Fritz the Bold and Ghelik the Sly.
Yordan Patar |
So:
Fritz and Ghelik in the front row.
Vitae and Kyleen in the second.
Mrakala and Nameless in the third.
Yordan in the rear.
"Let's get going, then."
Long-term care for the sick will just have to wait.

Not the shed. The chute room held patio furniture and some simple lawn games -- lawn bowls, croquet, and the like. Nothing that could be used in the crowded quarters of the Sanctuary.

Diplomacy, as we all know, takes a little while -- at least a minute of conversation. Still, I guess that's possible, and one hates to waste a nat 20.
Rocksauce stares at you for an uncomfortably long moment, eyes half hidden behind the dangling fringe of lank hair. Then,
"I don't need to mess with him any more. He's not a problem right now. And if he lives, he'll hurt himself. No need for me to do anything." She cocks her head. "You're different, aren't you? Different from the rest of your group." Again the long stare. "Well, you're not a problem, or anyway not my problem." She turns and walks away.
DM_DM |
Okay then! You're at a large pair of double doors marked LAUNDRY.
(A quick refresher: about 40' north of you, the corridor ends. Or rather, it's cut off. The ceiling has collapsed, and there's just a pile of rubble. The last 30' of corridor before the end is also partly covered with broken stone and tiles, making it difficult terrain.
Behind you (east) there's a pair of double doors marked STAFF. They're about 20' south of the LAUNDRY doors, so not directly opposite them. As you went past, you noticed that they're hanging open now; one of them sways slowly in the draft that comes in from the Staff room, where you found the "old lady". The door emits the occasional creak as the draft moves it slowly back and forth.
About 40' north of the STAFF doors is a single door marked DE UTY DI EC OR. It's closed.)
Kyleen |
Kyleen looks to the Staff door and shakes her head.
Pretty sure we left the staff door closed and the director's door open. Someone has been here. For some reason, I doubt that whoever it is is friendly.
Kyleen glances in the staff room to see if anything has changed.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Ghelik the Sly |
all sorta nasty things slitherin' around ere. Let's stick with the mission and get thu clothes. Just watch ur back.
Ghelik tightens the grip on his shortsword and dagger.
In looking at the dagger more closely does ghelik spot anything unusual about the markings on it? You mentioned they were Scarzni.
Vitæ Somnium |
DM is giving us a nudge. Possibly. What may be in that room we already went through we would still have to deal with later, possibly better to deal with now rather than later when it's 'more prepared.'
Nameless, did you get your Spells for the day back? And can you please throw Guidance on the party before we enter.
Fritz Fritzman |
Agreed.
Fritz mutters a prayer then draws his sword and waits for the signal to push the door open
I will move in quickly, but be ready to cover my back
Vitæ Somnium |
Cast Light on a crossbow bolt ?
Yordan Patar |
"If there's nothing here that's large enough to attack us, move on. We can worry about sifting the dust for clues later if we survive this."
I think the staff room and the DD's room are connected; we should check both, but only enough to make sure that nobody is currently lurking there, then go on to the laundry.
DM_DM |
Okey doke! Another big roll coming up... 1d20 ⇒ 12 Yup, that'll do it. 1d20 ⇒ 18 hum dum de dum and a really big one now: 1d4 ⇒ 1 awww.
Well something just grabbed you around the neck from behind.
You're at the back of the party as they turn away from a cursory search of the staff room, back into the corridor. You take 5 points of damage and you can't speak or call out, because you're being choked. That was the surprise round. So, initiative:
You: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Thing that grabbed you: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Okay, so you can act. Your options are "try to break the grapple" or "attempt to alert the rest of the party", i.e. by kicking or clapping, throwing something, etc. You can't do both. What do you do?
Yordan Patar |
Yordan drops his glaive, which ought to make a clattering noise on the floor, as a free action. Then he triggers his spring-loaded dagger into his hand and slams it against the wall, trying to make a noise. They ought to hear one of those.
[ooc]I haven't altered the hit points in my profile yet, because that would show up and alert the other players. Right now I'm at 4/12. Also my initiative is +5 instead of +4 but I don't think that alters my relative position with Gollum.
DM_DM |
Okay everyone -- make a Perception check.
You hear a clattering noise, as of something metallic striking the ground, followed by a scratching or scraping sound. You turn.
Yordan -- who was at the back of the party -- is being pulled away into the darkness by two long... arms? tentacles?... two long limbs, wrapped around his neck. He is trying to cry out, but his mouth works wordlessly: the limbs are wrapped firmly around his throat, and he has no air. The clattering noise was Yordan dropping his glaive. As you watch he scrapes his dagger along the wall, obviously trying to make a noise to attract attention.
The limbs are connected to something that is clinging to the ceiling. You can't get a good look at it -- it's just out of range of your light -- but two eyes reflect light back at you, like a cat.
You can attack the limbs if you can roll a 13 or higher on Initiative.
If you didn't make the Perception check, just go about your business normally.
Kyleen |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Kyleen continues to follow in the middle of the pack, her prison rags and a single dagger her only armaments or equipment.
Somewhere in the back of her head, she can hear the voice of the Doctor babbling, but not making much sense. Unfortunately, this incessant chatter keeps her from paying attention to much else.
Oracle with No Name |
Rolling everything here, as I won't be able to check back until (maybe) late tomorrow
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 ...
Will Save (DC 15 to place self in danger): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
The oracle, who has been silent for the majority of the excursion, turns to see Yordan bound. She shrieks: No! Let him go! Her mind reels, vision swimming, she can't bring herself to approach and stab the thing. She calls out to the rest of the group: Help - something has Yordan!
Yordan Patar |
Botting for Mrakala in the interests of speed per DMDM request...
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Mrakala's hair-trigger nerves apparently have him so busy jumping at shadows that he doesn't notice anything going on behind him.
I guess Vitae is my last hope. Or is he busy casting light on that crossbow bolt? At least everyone will be able to see how I die...
Yordan Patar |
Botting Vitae, because why not:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Vitae sees what's going on but apparently is too shocked to do anything about it quickly enough. Yordan's gurgles are stifled in his throat as whatever is about to happen, happens.
Note to self: start running through lists of character ideas.
DM_DM |
Being first level characters, most of us have less than a 50% chance to beat the rolls. Hopefully we may still be able to act even if it does drop you below 0.
The average PC in this party has roughly a 50% chance of making both rolls -- most of you have not neglected Perception or Initiative. So, for instance, the Oracle had +4/+8. Vitae had +8/+3, and so forth. Six out of six PCs failing... yeah, the odds of that are comfortably less than 1 in 20.
Welp.
DM_DM |
Hm, should have rolled those one at a time. Well...
1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 <-- damage
The creature -- whatever it is -- throttles Yordan into unconsciousness. (In fact, it looks quite close to snapping his neck.)
It moves slowly backwards along the ceiling, away from you, dragging Yordan's limp form along with it. It seems to be heading for the crack that leads outside. (Hey, the rain seems to have quieted down for the moment.)
Everyone can act now. Note that the thing is between 20' and 30' away, in the room that's all broken furniture and calf-deep water -- difficult terrain. Oh, and 10' up on the ceiling, of course.
Fritz Fritzman |
Cantankerous centipedes! Yordan! . Fritz double moves to get in position to attack next ro Be
He pushes detritus away w his shield as he draws his sword
Yordan Patar |
GGGGGHHHLLKKKKKkkkkkkkk......
An exquisitely inlaid dagger falls from Yordan's suddenly limp hand, past his boots dripping water as they leave the ground, and hitting with the floor with a --
-- clink!
This scene will be in the trailer.
Kyleen |
Going for creative use of spells here.
Kyleen moves slightly forward, points at Yordan, and then speaks several arcane words she recalls from somewhere in the past.
Cast Grease <-- yeh, I think this would give a +10 on Escape Artist. Figure it should give it a -10 on maintaining the Grapple or something like that. Maybe the creature will drop Yordan.
