Kyleen |
Finding what sort of appears like it could be used to knock the sense out of someone, Kyleen grabs the club-like-thing and then moves to hit the other sharp thing.
Move Action - move
Standard: Attack: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 - 4 = 0
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Unfortunately her swing completely misses the sharp glass, hitting the table instead.

Alternatively if I can't help in this fight I'll help Mrakala. You're a bit separated from everyone -- you sat down in the tile corridor, outside the cells. So 20 to 30 feet from the action. You used your Painful Stare on the shears this round, which helped a bit; remember, that's a free action, so you can do other stuff this round.
Vitæ will keep his Painful Stare focused on the remaining floating weapon, and double move, 60' (or even faster if he can run) towards the escaping Fritz to aid Mrakala.
In a firm but still winded voice to the group, 'We can't let that one ... raise an alarm.'
DMDM is there anything Vitæ can pick up to throw at the fleeing Fritz?
Ghelik the Sly |
Ghelik and Kyleen: if you had Stuff 2 or higher, you should have already retrieved your stuff from the pile. If not, then you can grab an improvised weapon from the pile as a move action.
Ghelik, you get a pointy stick. (Okay, a broken chair leg.) You have the no-proficiency problem, but it'll do d4 of damage.
Kyleen, you found something that works as an impromptu club. Still no proficiency, but you can swing it for d6 of damage.
I did have stuff 2 so I had stuff I already rolled for in the pile. That being said I will start using it. From my previous post:
2nd Short Sword 1d100 ⇒ 39 there1 Silver Dagger, 1d100 ⇒ 96 there but broken
MW Thieves Tools, 1d100 ⇒ 3 there
SCARZNI silver fate coin, 1d100 ⇒ 15 there
SCARZNI silver fate coin, 1d100 ⇒ 23there
SCARZNI silver fate coin, 1d100 ⇒ 12there
2nd wrist sheath 1d100 ⇒ 4 there
I rolled really bad but at least I have one short sword.
Ghelik 5' shifts into the flank and attacks the "thing"
Shortsword atk flank 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13 dam 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (1) = 7 Hopefully it can be flanked.
Oracle with No Name |

... stuff 2 ...
Unless I misunderstood you and/or DM_DM -- I think stuff 2 means you have all items from char sheet, no rolling required. So you should have everything.
Save us, oh Stabbity Sczarni!
Vitæ Somnium |
Damn, the beast shrugged off my spell! Did you manage to destroy the larvae?"
'You were ... (heavy breathing) supposed to wait ... (heavy intake of breath) for me.'

Yes, save us Stabbity!

Its AC isn't very good, but it has 2 hardness. So, it takes 5 points of damage.
I think everyone has acted this round? So, time for me to roll?
Vitæ Somnium |
PNF crawls into the furnace. There is a scrabbling sound as he (she? it?) disappears from sight, following by a series of clinks and then a sort of slithering scrape.
Over to the rest of you!
DMDM you did did say Vitæ double moved to be right next to him/her? And the Wizard is close too. I don't know where he/she is in Initiative but can we both take an action to stop him/her?
In the discussion thread Mrakala also said you should bot him until Saturday please.
Kyleen |
Unsure what else to do, steps away from the strange creature and moves next to the man lying on the floor with his lifeblood leaking out. Knowing that it is the last of her limited magical abilities, Kyleen touches the man, causing some if his wounds to heal.
Cast CLW on Yordan: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Yes, you get an AoO.

Mrakala seems to be shaping up as a classic "I don't get within melee reach of anything that could hurt me" type of wizard.
Oracle with No Name |
Nameless sidesteps the shears - and then realizes she was not the target as they slash at the prone ranger. No! Initially faced with a bladed horror between her and the injured, she stutter steps a few times, her mind racing, as she attempts to find a way through to aid him. The tension in her face eases a bit as she notes Kyleen rushing to the man's side.
"Aww, couldn't that thing at least have nicked an artery? He was prone!"
The oracle mutters something under her breath, tightens her grip on the shaft of her spear and thrusts at the floating Slashy Thing.
Spear Attack: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 4 = -2
Spear Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Oh come on.
Ghelik the Sly |
Ghelik attempts another attack on their adversary,
Damned git, will ye die! he screams at it in frustration.
shortsword atk flanking 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16 dam 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (3) = 4
Oracle, don't forget you are flanking with Ghelik. It doesn't matter this round but could next.
Mrakala |
-- Hm: looking at Mrakala's page, I see his ready spells don't include Sleep, which he cast earlier. Was that from a bound object? I don't think he has one right now.
Well, anyway: he can spam a DC 15 Daze. Here's the save:
d20
Back! And.that's a...well shit. That was an oversight. What was I looking at when I thought sleep was on there? I'll uh..mark off one of the random ones then I suppose? Also I didn't realize he didn't have his bound object. I don't think he can cast spells without it..*goes back to read up on those* This is why I always have a familiar XD
EDIT: Yeah you need to make a DC 20 + spell level concentration check (pretty much impossible at level 1) to cast a spell or you lose the spell without a bound object. So he shouldn't have tried to cast anything but a level 0 spell. Much less a spel that isn't even prepared...I guess it's lucky it didn't go off? Random roll to see which of the "spells" should have been Sleep? (1: Snowball, 2: Vanish, 3: Color Spray) 1d3 ⇒ 2
Yordan Patar |
Yordan returns to consciousness with Kyleen's healing energy flowing through him again -- but he screams at the bloody shears floating only inches from their faces.
"AAAAAAIIIIIIEEEEE!"
Will save to put himself in danger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
They're here! I can reach them! Break them! He grabs a dagger from his belt and stabs wildly upward -- or would, if he weren't staggered by the horror all around him. At least he has another weapon now. At his side, the glaive is still clattering on the floor from where he dropped it earlier.
Yordan is still not thinking very straight.

Your bound object is 1d20 ⇒ 7 nnnnggggh, where you always leave it when you're not using it! In the thing, next to the other thing!
DM_DM |
Meta: you started with Stuff 4, which means you should have all your stuff and then some. (Stuff normally only runs from 0 to 3. I gave Marko, the original player, +2 Stuff because he was a newbie and I didn't want him to start without a spellbook or bound object. He invested two points in Stuff anyway, which means... well, you should have all your stuff.)
So where are your spellbook and bound item and whatnot? Well, on one hand you have Stuff 4! So, presumably not far away. On the other hand, this is a horror campaign. So, maybe not quite so easy. Maybe go back and review the last few pages, and think about it.

With Vitæ's Hypnotic Stare the Daze save would be at a -2. I don't think Vitæ was in position to help with the Sleep.
Vitæ Somnium |
Waiting on Vitae's AoO, and then we move on.
Trailing flickering sand, the lithe pale figure makes one last desperate awkward lunge at the fleeing he/she/it.
Sword Cane: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
damage: 1d6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 + 1 = 6
edit Wohoo Possible Crit!
Sword Cane: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
damage: 1d6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 + 1 = 6
Vitæ Somnium |
Note Damage includes Painful Stare, I would have much preferred a Rapier but my assigned class is not allowed it. Odd.
Vitæ Somnium |
Painful Stare is great, but only works on one opponent at a time. IIUC it was on the floating shears, not Stuff Thing or Fleeing Fritz.
Pardon the error. I reread the thread prior to posting and I thought we were in a new round. Damage would only be 10 then.
Yordan Patar |
Yordan struggles to his feet, staring around, then jumps up and down on the shears with a howl of triumph.
"They're dead! They're dead!"
Still not thinking very straight.
DM_DM |
Someone gasps. You turn.
Something is happening to Okay, Definitely Not Fritz. His (her? its?) body seems to be... melting. Fritz's features were already half gone; now they slump like candle wax in a hot fire. The limbs go oddly loose, almost boneless.
In a few moments, the creature on the floor looks only vaguely humanoid. Its skin is a dull matte grey. Its flesh looks soft, pulpy, almost semiliquid; it is distinctly flattened by its own weight. Its face is a damp grey blur with no features except a thin slash of a mouth and two huge eyes, colored a solid mauve without iris or pupil.
Fritz Fritzman |
I told you I was better looking than that imposter! Fritz says to the heavens
Now, lets see if my sword can kill it dead!
Fritz Fritzman |
Fritz takes his sword in two hands and tries to break the sheers, moving into a flanking position
1d20 + 3 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 1 + 2 = 16 for 1d8 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 3 = 9 2 handed longsword PA
Kyleen |
Kyleen, becoming more and more confused by the moment as things take stranger and stranger turns, looks down at the slowly melting form of the creature trying to determine whether she has any recollection of reading about this thing somewhere.
Knowledge(Arcana, dungeoneering, local, nature, or religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Yordan Patar |
"Did I hunt things like this?"
Knowledge (dungeoneering or nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
"I ... don't remember hunting anything like that. And -- what's getting away?"
Mrakala |
Scowling at the grey corpse-thing, Mrakala ignores the chaos in the other room and goes to start poking at unburnt lumps of something in the furnace.
"...where could that pendant be.."
With a -2 Strength and needing a DC 20 concentration check just to cast a level 0 spell, I don't think he'll really do anything helpful until he finds his pendant. Sorry guys!
Oracle with No Name |
The Oracle stumbles to a stop after her embarrassing over-extension, as a hot stream of blood from the slashed throat of Not Fritz splashes her with from brow to waist. A small shiver travels up her spine. Frozen in place, and watching the grey, rubbery corpse lose its vaguely human shape, the nameless woman's face is unreadable for a moment until a slow smile spreads on her lips.
Ha. Heh-heh-heh. Ah-ha-HA-HA-HA! She's not me, she's not us! She's nothing more than ... than ... a Thing!
Keeping her distance from the remaining Sharp Thing, Nameless mimes her way through a few partner-less dance steps - from Vitae to Kyleen - and ends up standing beside Fritz, bangs the butt of her spear on the ground, leans in close and whispers: I knew you weren't a Thing.
"ThIs Is JuSt EmBaRrAsSiNg."
"Don't be too harsh, dear, after all -- we could all use some sleep."
No! No sleep ... The woman backs away from Fritz to the nearest wall, smile turned to fear. A rivulet of cooling blood drips from her cheek.

Kyleen, becoming more and more confused by the moment as things take stranger and stranger turns, looks down at the slowly melting form of the creature trying to determine whether she has any recollection of reading about this thing somewhere.
The advantage of taking Mental 3: you may not remember much of the last few years, but you remember what someone told you somewhere about something.
If there's a special way of dealing with them, or of detecting when someone is a duplicate... you got nothing. Not even sure if there isn't, or there is but you forgot it, or you just never knew.
