Wednesday Daud |

Turning back to Quaina he arches an eyebrow slightly. "I'm beginning to believe your boss does not like me."

Tolenn |

Tolenn surges into the room, after successfully battering down the door. Noting the 'body' in the bed, she points at it as she passes the bead on the way to the window.
Leaning out she cranes her neck, looking for the fleeing woman.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Pyron Firehide |

Well, Pyron would have gone after her since he was already looking at the edges of the roofline. He will race to the side of the edge to see where she is and will assess the quickest path to reach her safely.

DM Crispy |

Pyron chases after Wednesday and Zart (and the zoog) as Tolenn and Gaius enter the tiny structure. Gaius pulls back the covers beside the open window, revealing the cliche pillows under the blankets routine the woman was trying to use to buy time.
Gaius and Tolenn see through the window, and the other three as they come around the corner of the building, a young blond woman matching exactly to Croft's description scampering across the next rooftop. She looks back, her eyes widening as she spies your group starting to pursue.

Zart the Lost |

Any chance I can get within 30ft with a move action this round to cast a spell?

DM Crispy |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Each round, you can move 1 square as a move action automatically, without having to make any checks. You can still take a standard at this point. You can take a full round action to move 2 or 3 squares. To move 2 squares, you must roll against 1 of the obstacles on your square. To move 3, you must successfully roll against both obstacles. If you fail the one check or both checks by less than five, you move 1 square. If you fail 1 check by more than 5 when you attempt to move you make no movement that round. If you fail 2 checks by more than 5, you fall 30 feet to the street below. If you end your turn on the same card as Trinia, you may make a free grapple attempt. Each card will be the equivalent of 30 feet, for mechanics purposes. Also, if your movement is 20 feet, you take -2 on all physical checks.
Trinia Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Gaius Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Pyron Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Tolenn Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Wednesday Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Zart Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Initiative: Tolenn, Gaius, Pyron, Trinia, Zart, Wednesday

Zart the Lost |

Way cool! Is this in the adventure, or are you using my Turkey Chase scene for inspiration? If it is in the adventure, this predates the Game Mastery Guide! First appearance of the chase mechanics?

Zart the Lost |

Huh. I thought I'd played book 1... my GM did love to do the rewrites, though. I didn't recognize too much from my reading of the gameplay threads... except the Gaedren Lamm "dungeon".

Tolenn |

the obstacle descriptions in the chase document are cut off. Is the check and DC part of the hidden text?
EDIT
Ok, opened it up and was able to resize the columns...
Leap to next Rooftop Acrobatics DC 15: 1d20 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 4 - 2 = 5
Failed 1 check by more than 5...no movement
Tolenn climbs out the window and runs across the rooftop, almost immediately slipping and sliding on the hard shingles. Almost falling to the the ground far below, she realizes that with her armor she has almost no chance of catching the fleeing woman.
"Trinia, come back, we're here to protect you. I swear it, on Sarenae's Grace!" she calls out.
Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Wednesday Daud |

Incase you missed it, repost:
Turning back to Quaina he arches an eyebrow slightly. "I'm beginning to believe your boss does not like me."
Lol Love how the people that went after her go slower than those who went into the building :3

DM Crispy |

Ha! Didn't notice that.

Wednesday Daud |

Daud can't help but smirk back at the woman. "I do indeed, but at the moment you have me intrigued in other matters. What 'stupid lil thing' is bothering Halvara at the present?" Slipping his hand into his coat pocket he just as soon pulls it back out, a gold coin dancing its way between his fingers.

DM Crispy |

Wednesday Daud |

Putting one arm around her waist he leans in to mime a whisper before nibbling on her earlobe, with his coin hand working a line up her stomach before gently groping her breast, he uses the action to let the coin gently fall between her mounds. Releasing her ear he only slightly lets the arm sround her waist slacken. "Consider me confused now, if I paid for all of her time then why should she be mad? That just means more clients for the rest of you."

Zart the Lost |

I take it Zoog has the same initiative as me. Luckily, he has much better skills. ;-) Thinking about summoning a shadow owl to harry her... but I can only give limited commands. Zoog can speak with animals for me, but then I have to do the full round cast... or do I risk it all to move three forwards so I can do some real good work next round? Decisions, decisions. Think I'll risk all. Eagles and owls fly and can move 60 ft. Always time to catch up! ;-)

Wednesday Daud |

So she was looking after her? But if people stopped asking for her she wouldn't work here anymore... So do I distance myself..? Or do I remain selfish..? Slipping his hand back into his pocket he'll begin pulling away from her while once again taking her hands in his, pushing the coin into her palm while doing so, and bring them to his lips. "Thank you for your time milady."
Turning on his heel Daud will saunter back over to Halvara. "My thanks for your recommendation, and absolutely no offense meant towards the lovely Quaina, but I think I will wait for Valeria." Motioning towards the bar, "Would you be opposed to a drink, on me, while I await her?"

DM Crispy |

The striking half-elf laughs. "Ever the charmer. Drinks are free for me, any time I wish for them. Which I don't...too much wine on my head causes poor decision making." Her smile fades as she takes on a more serious tone. "And why should I allow that? She's a whore, good fellow, if a well paid one. I don't need anyone putting any notions in her head that she's anything but."

Wednesday Daud |

I immediately retract all former thoughts of sincerity towards this woman.
A slight twinge in his face belies his reaction to the certain word Halvara used. "Because I care for her, and I pay for her attention just like everyone else? Or have you already forgotten how happily you took my money yesterday?"

DM Crispy |

Wednesday Daud |

I'm going to enjoy killing this woman.
If looks could kill the skin of Halvara's face would have melten off as her head burst into flame at this point, though shaking he does not raise his fists, instead digging his fingers into the palms causing a bleeding as the nails tear into flesh. With a steady stream of red running down from his nostrils he speaks, his voice akin to glass on bloody gravel. "And how would one go about ending her selling herself? Is she under contract? Or is their anything I could do for you? You obviously leave no wanting for drinks, flesh, or gold, but is their anything else? Any task you would like completed, discretely or otherwise?"

DM Crispy |

Wednesday Daud |

As Halvara speaks the tension holding him seems to leave as wuickly as if someone turned on a faucet. At her last quip he can't help but smirk. "She is that attractive, isn't she. When I first met her I thought we could just keep things casual as a mistress and her paramour, but I guess... I fell in love with her. I will return with your 500 gold." Snatching her hand he will bring it up to his lips in quick kiss before letting it go. "Thank you for listening to the ramblings of a pathetic, broken man." He'll then turn to leave.
And go find Gaius, failing that, a temple of Abadar.

Wednesday Daud |

Hm yeah, on second thought I'll go to the temple first, Probably less likely to screw him over lol

Wednesday Daud |

Actually Nvm, just went through all the loot we had gained since the beginning and Daud does have 500g on him :3
About to exit the Is it House or Palace of Clouds? Daud will stop and rummage through all of his pockets before returning to Halvara with a bag slightly more stuffed than what would be recommended. "500 gold, correct?"

Gaius Tindareus |

Do the obstacles just go in order? I'm assuming so for my turn. Also, DM Crispy and Daud--would you guys mind doing the side quest stuff over PM? It's kind of clogging up the gameplay thread and making it harder to follow along.
Gaius takes a moment to survey the scene, looking for a better path of pursuit.
Full round move two squares, hidden bridge perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
After she aims a spell at Pyron, he calls to the others.
She doesn't want our help. We need to take her down fast before she gets all of us killed.
He traverses the gap and closes distance with his quarry.

Summon Monster II |
Zart turns to the Zoog and barks a short command, "ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਓ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਣ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫੜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਵੇਖੋ. ਕੋਈ ਹੱਤਿਆ!"
It bounds off, leaping from the bridge to clear the gap to land on a safer part of the roof, bypassing that challenge and the next one entirely to stand before the narrow gap, its beady eyes glowing.
Acrobatics (DC 15): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Perception (DC 15): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Zart the Lost |

The much clumsier and less perceptive summoner attempts to follow.
Acrobatics (DC 15): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Perception (DC 15): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 --> I didn't realize how bad my perception skill was when I said I'd try both - forgot I'd shifted that over to Raamanti! Lucky roll, though.
Amazingly, Zart manages to more-or-less mimic the Zoog's movements.

Wednesday Daud |

Daud stoicly stands where he is, the bloodflow seemingly stopped but he hasn't made a move to clean his face, as if he was unaware of it.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Daud tries to jump after the fleeing Trinia but misjudges, luckily catching himself on a previously unseen bridge. I think I did this right?

Zart the Lost |

Okay, so both Zoog and Zart moved 3 squares forwards, is that right? Since when did I start to roll good as a player? ;-)

Summon Monster II |
Since I'll be kinda out of action this afternoon and for almost all of tomorrow, I'm just going to quickly post some actions. Sorry to clutter things up.
On the Zoog's turn in Round 2:
Following commands from Zart, the Zoog bounds ahead as far as it can to allow for the best tactic. Relying on its keen eyes and tiny frame to help it through the narrow gap and further along besides.
Perception DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Escape artist DC 20: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 --> Not sure if I should include some kind of size bonus for this, since the Zoog is a tiny creature. **EDIT** Wow, didn't need it! Again, when did my PCs start rolling well?

Zart the Lost |

On Zart's turn in Round 2:
Zart moves forward (move action to move forwards 1 card), pulls out a greasy yellow blob from his component pouch and casts a spell in the slippery tongue of buttermancy:
"γράσο" -- grease, reflex save DC 17, 30 ft range
A large (10 ft) area of grease appears around Trinia. Her feet find themselves on a surface almost completely lacking in friction. It smells great, though.
Zart realizes that his successful flirtation with rapid movement was pure luck, plain and simple. He decides that another creature is needed to deal with the slippery Trinia - one that does not need to worry about climbing on rooftops.
In the dark tongue of shadowmancy, Zart begins the incantations to call a shadow eagle into being:
"καλέσει τέρας σκιά αετός" -- summon monster I spell, 1 round casting time
He will summon it to the square in front of him (30 ft range). It appears on Zart's turn next round (round 3).

Pyron Firehide |

will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 If saved, then Pyron will move a square forward.

DM Crispy |

Initiative Round 2:Tolenn, Gaius, Pyron, Trinia, Zart, Wednesday
Zart and his pet Zoog are hot on the trail of the blond vixen, Gaius not far behind. Pyron takes it slow and steady, hoping to capitalize on a mistake by Trinia. Tolenn and Wednesday both try to move quickly, but their large size and the weight of their equipment makes the going treacherous.

Gaius Tindareus |

Just a note--in urban settings I have +6 init, not +4. Didn't matter here, but it might for future reference. This armored coat is jacking up my options here. After this mission we all have to do some shopping. Still forgot to get some thieves' tools. ;-)
Gaius advances on the seemingly dangerous woman, then draws a large back from his backpack.
Move up one step, another move to draw tanglefoot bag. Daud reminded me I had one that I forgot to put on my sheet from a LOOOOONG time ago.

Pyron Firehide |

I forgot I could take a standard action, perhaps doing the spell virtue on myself to gain 1 temp. hit point on round 2.)
On Pyron's turn, he moves another square forward. Pyron will use the ghost sound spell to have voices saying, I found her, kill her! on the other side of her (DC Will Save 14 or disbelief). Then I will respond with, Come here, quickly. We are trying to help save your life. Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 (I am not sure how you want to work the spell failure/success with my urgency for her to come with us through the diplomacy roll.)

Pyron Firehide |

It should have been a +9 I believe instead of a +8 on the diplomacy check, but I think it is fine either way.

DM Crispy |

We're still on round 2, Pyron, and you already moved the square forward...I'll assume you do the ghost sound after you move forward. Of course, talking is a free action.
Pyron cleverly tries to coerce Trinia into submission, using a spell to imitate pursuers on the other side.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Trinia responds to the distraction by turning 90 degrees to the right and continuing away from both threats, blatantly ignoring Pyron's request, nicely phrased as it was. Maybe the fact that he looks like a hellspawn didn't help.
