In an effort to prolong Tun'ada's life and protect him from Yazoth's minion's she drops the bow, taking out her dagger and attacking the skeleton attacking Tun'ada.

Can't see the skeleton on my picture, but if Chi can move into a flanking position she will. If she can do it without prevoking an AoO, so much the better.

Prayer (40 foot radius) (+1 luck bonus to Yarzoth and allies attack rolls, damage, saves and skill checks, -1 to her enemies (all of YOU!)

Action-

Yarzoth carefully casts another spell. Your unsure of what she did, but you feel Gwenyth's blessing wane and then fade completely as it is countered or dispelled by whatever Yarzoth did. She then takes a quick step to the south-east, putting her out of range of Tun'ada's attacks and keeping a skeleton in his way to hinder him.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 VS DC17 (Defensive Cast)

Spellcraft DC16:

The spell cast was Bane.

No more +1 to attacks from Bless. Remember your poison saving throws at the end of your actions Tun'ada and Marcus.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Recognising the unholy spell the evil priestess casts, Chi cries aloud, "The bane of your evil god will not protect you."

Bahh! Nice timing for a 1 and a 2 on the claw rolls....someone please kill this b~+#+ before she kills me ;) Oh well, at least the skeleton is likely toast.

Your Humble Narrator

Assumes Marcus doesn't suddenly kill the skeleton.

Tun'ada's claws are both easily dodged by Yarzoth, who seems merely scornful of his efforts. His bite however, finally destroys the last skeleton. Yarzoth stands alone.

Gwen backpedals away from her enemy, knowing that even though Tun'ada and Marcus are sorely wounded, she can only hope to help them by staying alive herself.

Full Round Action: Withdraw to D-16 (I believe I can make it there by way of initially moving into C-21, then B-20 and so forth. If not, I'd settle for C-17.

Daintily Chi steps back over the hanging ropes which section off the side chapel behind. She takes out the magical javelin she has stored away and throws it at the priestess, saying "Feel this javelin's might you snake woman." As the javelin flies towards the priestess, it magically transforms into spikes of lightning which speed on at her body.

Move to G18 5ft step, javelin of lightning 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 3, 6) = 21 DC=14, Reflex save for half, the line should miss all allies and just hit Yazroth

It was assigned to Chi on Ambrozes party list, forgot to look there for stuff, thanks Marcus.

Your Humble Narrator

Despite the foreboding feeling of desperation apparent within the room, Marcus manages to feint Yarzoth, causing her to leap into the path of his deadly Falcata rather than away from it. She is still quick enough to leap away from a deadly stroke, but even a glancing blow from the warrior is a telling one. Gwenyth maneuvers around the deadly melee while Ambroze...

Your up little Gnome.

DC 16 Spellcraft check: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 1 = 10

Round Seven:

Ambroze spares a mournful glance for the flask of alchemist's fire as it floats down the river of blood. Suddenly his face brightens as a thought occurs to him. Taking a step back from the serpent woman, he whistles as if summoning a pet and points at the flask of alchemist's fire. As if hearing the beckons, the flask rises from the river of blood and floats gracefully to the gnome's grasp. At the same time the gnome scholar reaches into his pack to retrieve the wand that the companions won from the cannibal witch a few days earlier. All the while he continues to offer words of encouragement to his companions.

Free action to maintain Bardic Performance (Naturalist). 5-ft step back to square F,23. Standard action to cast Mage Hand to retrieve the flask of alchemist's fire from the river of blood (Woot! Chi hurls the javelin and is it passes through the air, it becomes a bolt of lightning, hurtling towards Yarzoth. The lightning bolt seems to almost diminish as it flies towards her, as though its magic is waning, but it strikes through whatever was holding it back and hits Yarzoth with a glancing blow, her superhuman reflexes allowing her to partially dodge it despite obviously being caught off guard.

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19 Reflex Save

DM Only:

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Yarzoth seems to be lacking conviction in her ability to win the fight, as you see desperation fill the serpentfolk's eyes. Quickly casting, she heals some of her own wounds, pulling out a scroll from her robes after doing so, and edging slowly towards Tun'ada.

Tun'ada's left claw slashes through Yarzoth brutally, several long and deep cuts cutting across her chest, her vain effort to ward off the blow with her arms failing due to the speed of the slash. Marcus steps to the south, hoping to create a flank with Tun'ada.

Not at home atm, will update with Marcus' action in an hour or two.

Your Humble Narrator

I've taken the liberty of assuming Tun'ada would move with a 5 foot step so Marcus could do the same and flank.

Casting aside his shield, Marcus swings his falcata furiously in an effort to finish the wounded serpentfolk off.

Chi's lightning bolt took place at the start of the round (my narrative usually runs in initiative order). I need Chi's Round 9 action before I update.

Chi seeing Marcus suffer, feels a small responsibility for his condition, having been unable to complete a spell which would have given him more power to resist the poison. Keeping out of range orf the priestess' way, she starts to make her way round, as she passes Tun'ada she releases an arcane power, gving Tun'ada an almost mystical insight to find the weaknesses in the priestess' defenses.

Prayer has worn off in round 9. And you couldn't be more wrong Jer :)- sorry if you didn't enjoy the long combat.

Tun'ada's claw slashes through the serpentfolk's back as she makes a run for the altar. She trips, stumbles, and then falls onto her back, falling beside Gwenyth. She seems to be trying to crawl towards the statue, but her strength leaves her. Bleeding out and hissing softly, Yarzoth speaks, rasping between coughs of blood and agony-

Beaten by the likes of YOU... Perhaps... I... was wrong. The time of... my people... is not ascendant... after all... Curse... You...

She passes out, dying from her many horrific wounds...

Dying as in in negative HP, if you really wanted to save her you could.

Having fully vented his rage, Tun'ada slumps to the ground, nearly exhausted from the battle...

Female Human Oracle 4

Gwen looks around, halfway expecting the temple to begin to crumble around her. When it does not immediately do so, she focuses on her friends, the wounds they've taken, the blood they've shed. She sees Tun'ada eviscerate the dying serpent woman, but does nothing whatsoever to stop him. In fact, she waits until the fiend has completely expired to allow the healing of the Gods to wash over the group.

Ambroze stands with flask and wand in-hand, momentarily stunned by the realization that the person responsible for stranding his companions and himself on this Gods-forsaken island finally lies dead. He carefully stows the items back in his pack, careful not to drop the flask of alchemist's fire and cause an unfortunate accident as Gwen's healing energies wash over the group.

"She seemed to be trying to reach this statue before she died," the gnome scholar comments as he moves over to examine the demonic stone figure. "I wonder why..." he muses as he studies the figure, casting a spell to allow himself to see magical auras as he does so. Cast Detect Magic.[/ooc\

Chi cannot help but let our a cry of victory at the death of this evil priestess. She who would have them all dead and for what? ... for what?? ... Seeing the dying creature and the blood spilling out, she goes over and bathes her arms in the blood, holding them up in some deep and ancient ritual. Though she would not know where the urge came from to perform such acts. Almost turning on Gwen, she spits out. "Feel no compassion for this, she would show none to us. Rip her possessions from her, they are our legacy now." A gleam of satisfied revenge, deep and dark, sparkles from Chi's eyes, as she helps Gwen take the serpent woman's valuables. As she calms down, she speaks the arcane words of magic to aid in their work.

Seeing Marcus struggle, Chi ceases the search of the body. She goes over to Marcus and speaks arcane words once more to aid his fight against the poison. Then she starts to look into her belongings, pulling out a container full of a blue liquid. She swirls the container around and holds it up to the light, watching the color of the liquid brightened by the glow of the torch. Getting up she approaches Marcus, "This is my last potion Marcus, here you have it. It might help restore some strength." When Marcus motions, she will help pour it down his throat. resting Marcus' head in her lap, she soothes his brow, trying to lessen the burning sensation from the poison. You won't need more potions, I reckon Gwenyth's got at least 3 lesser restorations in her...

Female Human Oracle 4

Factually correct, Mr. Kilcoyne.

Don't worry, Chi. The poison didn't kill him, and I can make him stronger again, even if it takes a day or two to get him back to his full capabilities.

Gwen begins chanting softly, clearly casting a spell she has not cast before. The rhythm of the words is smooth and soothing, and when she finishes the lengthy incantation, her hand glows blue. As she touches Marcus, he seems stronger, and less ravaged by the foul poison.

There, that should be much better. I think we'll need to re-treat tomorrow, but before I exhaust my most powerful dweamors entirely, I'll see to Tun'ada, who was also bitten.

"Actually we're in a temple devoted to Zura, the Azlanti Demon Lord of Vampirism," Ambroze says absentmindedly as he studies the altar and statue. "At least, that's what the carvings on the great stone doors leading into this complex and the glyphs in the scriptorium indicated. And based on the appearance of this statue and the whole river-of-blood motif, I'd guess that's who this temple is devoted to. "

"Although you're right," he continues. "The glyphs in the scriptorium indicated that the Zura cultists built their temple over an even more ancient temple - one that was dedicated to Ydersius, the Beheaded One. Even though Ydersius was an enemy to the ancient Zura cultists."

"I'm really curious to know what Yarzoth was looking for down here..."

"But anyway, back to your question. If I had to guess, I'd theorize that since the altar is dedicated to an entity of unlife, perhaps you're drawn to channel the energies of life into it in order to erase the void of death that it represents."

Female Human Oracle 4

Gwen shrugs absentmindedly.

I guess I just assumed that this was ultimately a temple to Ydersius, after the encounter with the ghoul priestess under the cannibal camp. We're lucky we have you to keep us straight. Anyway, do you think I should channel into the altar? I don't have much strength left, but I don't see why I shouldn't expend it, if it will cause some good.

Your Humble Narrator

Ambroze isn't able to determine what either of the auras are, but is able to determine the statue emulates a gaseous form spell when the blood of a serpent is smeared upon it...

With the benefit of the barrage of magical healing, Marcus is able to stand although he remains pale. Well that was fun. He looks over at the shredded corpse of the serpent woman. Hopefully that tentacled thing will eat it. Tho' I wouldn't mind paying it back for Mawj.

Short cameo, New York is great! Seeing spider man the musical on sunday.

Sorry, AK. Don't know if that was "we just beat the BBEG" fatigue or what. Back now, and thanks for your patience. I will singlehandedly drive this plot forward if I must!

DM wrote:

I think we may have found our way out, Chi... if Ambroze is right, we should be able to reach the surface. There has to be a vent or a small fissure in here somewhere, doesn't there? Maybe even that hole in the ceiling...

The oracle points just above the altar, to the small hole she called out at the beginning of combat.

Regardless, there is one more thing I think we should do... I think we should destroy this altar. I have no idea if channeling into it will accomplish that, but I aim to try. If it does not, please be ready to smash it... I cannot abide this unholy thing remaining in one piece. Stand back, please.
