Your Humble Narrator

The spider reels back in pain from Tun'ada and James' blows, and retaliates against the Shoanti with another painful bite. The spider falters a little and is clearly badly hurt.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

James:

DC16 Fort save or take 1d2 ⇒ 1 points of strength damage.

Ambroze and James are up then i'll bot Chi if the things still standing.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Spoiler:
Fort Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

Maintaining his grip on the pole arm, James makes another powerful thrust back at the spider.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d12 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Round Two Action:
Ambroze continues to provide combat advice to his companions while he loads a bolt into his light crossbow and fires at the giant spider.

Free action to continue Bardic Performance - Naturalist; Ambrozes' AC is now AC16. Move action to load light crossbow. Standard action to fire light crossbow at spider:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Rounds of Bardic Performance Used Today: 2

Your Humble Narrator

The click of the crossbow mechanism heralds the end of the skirmish- the spider takes the bolt to the face and collapses, twitching and bleeding from various wounds.

133XP for everyone.

Savarend lies still, stable but unconcious.

Female Human Oracle 4

Gather round, Gwen says, kneeling by Savarend. She begins to pulse healing energy.

Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Everyone feeling better? Welcome back to the land of the living, my new dwarven friend.

Savarend rolls over, rubbing his sides. "Unnnggghhh! Sodding spider, that hurt!" He looks to Gwyneth, "I thank you, mate. I thought I was written into the dead-book for sure that time." Standing, he looks at the great spider and pokes it with his foot. "Does anyone know how to harvest glands? The poison of a giant spider is both useful and worth a bit of jink."

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi smiles at Gwen as the waves of positive energy serge through her body, yet despite the healing she still feels very weak. "Thanks Gwen, are you sure that healing worked, I'm still feeling weak, that spider must have poisoned me as well. I still have that potion which can help, but is there anyone else in more need of the restorative powers?"

Chi is 3 down on strength, at strength 4. It's not a critical stat for her, but it is critically low. However if there is a greater need for the restorative potion, Chi will give it up.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

"We still have a spare in my pack," James tells Chi, rolling his arm in his socket and feeling where his wound once was, "drink the potion, we wouldn't you passing out on us."

As a matter of fact, Chi may be even worse off, we hadn't got to her round 3 save yet. I'll allow Guidance to be cast on her and i'll allow one character to help her with this one with a heal check; I assume Gwyneth will volunteer. Assuming that Gwyneth passes, give me another Fortitude save Chi, at a +5 bonus.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Fort Save 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 5 = 12

Chi falls to the ground, her strength taken from her. Even a backpack seems to heavy for her.

The dice are not being kind....Hoping someone will pop the potion down Chi. She's in need of some TLC

Your Humble Narrator

I'll need one more save, we can assume Gwyneth takes 10 on her Heal check as we're not in combat.

1d2 ⇒ 1 Strength damage.

Female Human Oracle 4

Yes, I'll take 10.

Gwen kneels by Chi, obviously concerned. She rummages through the other woman's backpack for the Lesser Restoration potion that she knows is there, and continues sucking the poison out of the spider bite.

"Here, I've got one of those restorative potions, too," Ambroze says as he rummages through his pack. Finding said potion, he offers it to Gwenyth.

Female Human Oracle 4

Pour it slowly into her mouth, will you, Ambroze? That'd be a great help. Ptah! , the waifish girl spits. If this poison is as foul as it tastes, she'll need all the help she can get.

Your Humble Narrator

Chi fort save-

1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 5 = 23

Passed. Chi is on strength 3.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Fortitude save 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 5 = 15

Chi, face looks up at Ambroze as he slowly trickles the potion down here throat. She smiles, "Ambroze you keep your potion, there will be others that may need it later. If I can just get a bit stronger, it will be sufficient."

Lesser Restoration (strength) 1d4 ⇒ 4 1 less potion in Chi's backpack.

I like your rolls better Alex, though the d4 is nice, so strength is back to full.

However I have a huge apology to make...I was looking at the wrong character when I got Chi's strength down to 3, I was taking it from my summoner in another game who only has 7 strength, whilst Chi is on 12. It must have been late, I'm very sorry people.

Female Human Oracle 4

We ought to have known there'd be some kind of spider here. Don't they always choose the high ground? Speaking of which, let's see what we can see from that ridge over there, Gwen says, pulling Chi up from the ground.

Your Humble Narrator

From the high ground of the ridge, you can see the game trail you stumbled across yesterday extends deep into the heart of the island.

To the south-east of the Brine Demon shipwreck you explored, you can see two more shipwrecks on the eastern coast, beyond the smaller ridge to the south-east. On this smaller ridge, a clear hilltop is visible that matches Ishorou's loose description.

Directly south of you, at the southern end of the game trail a little beyond where you explored to yesterday, a small campsite is visible, although you can't tell if it is in use. A small wooden shack stands out amongst the campsite though.

Barely visible about two miles away, far into the ridge to your south-west, a small wooden hut is just barely visible.

To your north-west, a small clearing is visible- with some exotic looking yellow plants growing in the fifty foot diameter area. You think you briefly spotted some humanoid figures in the clearing, possibly cultivating the plants.

In the same direction directly on the coast, another campsite with shelters apparently made from driftwood sits- with the game trail leading north towards it. Your close enough to see that this campsite seems to be uninhabited and mostly wrecked- save for a single figure that stands motionless with his or her back to you- looking out towards the ocean.

8:15AM, Day 6.

Assuming Ishorou filled in Savarend about this hilltop...

"I think we should peruse that hilltop o'er there. It seems to be what Ishorou was talking about."

Your Humble Narrator

Traversing to the hilltop would require either-

1. Doubling back along the river and the ridge to follow the eastern river fork back to where you were yesterday and work from there.

OR

2. Attempting to climb down the ridge at your current location, and work your way from there. The ridge is about 100 feet high, and looks like a fairly difficult climb.

Also bear in mind it took you about 2 hours to get here, and if you want to be back before midday you'll need to be back by 12. Its 8:15 now.

Female Human Oracle 4

AK, I think you're destined to do nothing but make maps for my benefit, but do you think we could get an updated map with those sites on it? I'm having a hard time picturing everything. Also, would it be feasible to get to any of those sights this morning and get back in time, or is that a pipe dream?

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Seconded, can we have a list of which places we can get to and back before midday?

Your Humble Narrator
James Carmichael wrote:

I'll have a map up by the time your ready to head off for your afternoon sojourn. As for the list, i'll make that now.

Important Note- The only way you'll have time to get to any of these places is by scaling down the ridge.

1. The clearing (although you would have to head back via the so far unknown western shore.)

2. The campsite with the lone figure on the north coast (as above- you could possibly do this as well as the clearing but if anything else delays your trip back to camp your likely to get a bit sunburnt).

3. The campsite with the wooden shack on the south coast- this would involve a short trip along the game trail you found yesterday, ad then involve you returning to camp via the exploration you did yesterday.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

"I think it would be wise not to venture through unexplored territory until we have the luxury of time, shall we try investigating the shack on the south coast?" James adds, fishing rope from his pack to begin preparations for the descent down the ridge.

Your Humble Narrator

Updated Map including sights seen from the ridge-

Close Up Map Link

The funny shaded area near the ridge edge is the clearing. I've also included the third shipwreck you can see in the distance.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi, still wary after the effects of the poison, "I agree with James the least effort I can use the better today, that spider poison really took it out of me. Thanks Gwen and you too Ambroze for all you did to help, I really appreciated it, if there's anything I can do to help you, just ask."

Savarend shrugs, "Wherever the party would like to go."

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

"Yes, let's investigate the shack. In the morning we can make our way to the hilltop, should we still want to."

"I agree with James and Tun'ada. Let's check out that shack on the southern coast."

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi looks down from the ridge to see if here is a safe ledge(s) with significant vegetation about half way down the ridge. So that they can break the climb down into 50ft drops, (or 3 35ft drops) or alternatively if there is a path down somewhere.

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Your Humble Narrator

Your inspection is not promising- the ridge is steep and seems almost devoid of ledges.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

James looks around for a tree, or other solid object to fix the rope to.

Your Humble Narrator
James Carmichael wrote:

No shortage of those here.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi helps James look for a suitable tree, James, you know we're gonna have to tie more ropes together, I think we need at least 2 ropes to get down there? I don't fancy climbing down the last 50ft or so without a rope you know.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

"We have plenty of rope between us, Tun'ada and I both carry some and there's plenty more back at camp if we can't get this back." James tells Chi, as he goes about securing the rope and tying some together to make a longer line.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

As the rope is tied around the tree and made ready for the decent, Chi gathers foliage and other natural stuff to try and disguise where the rope is tied and the route of the rope from the tree to the drop over the ridge. "Tun'ada, don't know if you can help with this, you know a lot about things natural, but can you help disguise this rope, so it might be here later if we need it?"

As Chi watches the ropes being tied together, she goes to Ambroze and asks if he thinks they are strong enough knots, as he does seem to know much about everything. If only from the 'theoretical' point of view.

"James, can Ambroze take a look at the knots he may be able to help. And how are we going to help everyone get down?"

Just wondered how we can help weaker climbers get down more easily? and also what order we would go.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

"Sure Chi," James replies with a shrug, "best to make this as safe as possible."

Chi T'reignial wrote:

"I can certainly try something like that."

Alex, I assume the roll to make that happen would be some sort of combination of survival and stealth. Would that be correct?

Female Human Oracle 4

Gwen looks down the ledge and gulps audibly.

Sorry guys, RL game last night, I look this morning, and you guys have 13 posts up!

That sounds reasonable- as always, go ahead and make the rolls if in doubt and i'll do my best to interpret. Watching your unfolding plan with great interest!

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi helps Tun'ada

Roll to aid Tun'ada stealth1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Roll to aid Tun'ada survival1d20 ⇒ 18

Chi then goes to Gwen and puts her arm around her, "Be brave Gwen, I'm sure you can do it. I don't like it either, but we'll help each other down somehow."

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Stealth:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Survival:1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 17 (Assist from Chi)

I hope we will be able to find the rope when we need to :)

Your Humble Narrator

Tun'ada comes up with the idea of using various vines, leaves and twigs to disguise the rope as sparse vegetation, using bark resin as a kind of natural glue. It wouldn't fool a close inspection, but you don't think anybody would look at the ridge and see a rope anymore.

I know Kyle aka James is traveling today so i'm botting him a little.

With the camouflage in place, James ties the two ropes together in a sturdy knot, and lowers it in place on the ridge.

Any other precautions? If not i'd like an order of descent, along with either a climb roll or a take 10, players choice. You can all have a +2 favourable circumstance bonus to this roll as a reward for the general caution you took preparing for the climb.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Tun'ada will climb down first.

Taking 10, with his current STR and the +2 circumstance bonus => 18 on the check.

Your Humble Narrator

So your going one at a time- Both methods have their drawbacks and bonuses.

Tun'ada makes the climb down without any real difficulties.

Female Human Oracle 4

Chi, jeg tror ikke du virkelig forstår. Ikke bare er jeg veldig redd for høyder, men jeg kan ikke klatre å redde livet mitt. Kan du be James å senke meg ned? , Gwen asks, clearly distressed and in a state of panic.

Celestial:
Chi, I don't think you really understand. Not only am I very afraid of heights, but I cannot climb to save my life. Might you ask James to lower me down?

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi eyes wide, holds Gwen's hands, "Let's see if we can do that. Stay here don't worry we're not going to let anything happen to you." Chi then leaves Gwen and runs over to James and Savarend. "Boys, Gwen's in real trouble, I don't think she's capable of climbing down the ridge. she asked to be lowered down, do you think we can do that? Actually, it might be better to let everyone climb down whilst attached to a safety rope. But for poor Gwen, she's white as a sheet almost in tears, I think you will have to lower her down. Can we do that?"

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

After reaching the ground, Tun'ada readies his longspear and guards the landing zone.

Perception (if needed):1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Climb check 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

As Chi sees Savarend about to climb down, she shouts to him, "Savarend wait, can you help get Gwen down, she needs some help! Can you wait and help James lower her down on this rope here?"

I assume James has made another long rope by tying more ropes together. Chi will offer her rope to help, if James needs it.
