Kip Bendybrook |

Kardas is vulnerable! That we cannot change. As for the message? Whether they sack the castle or annihilate the citizens, the message will be the same with only the details changing.
Seeing the group swaying to his pleas for the people upon the road, but abandoning the castle entirely, Kip makes a final pitch to split the Guardian's response. Malthir! Some should go to the castle! We should try to help them all! Even if it means the death of some of us! At least let Ricter go to rally the defenders and protect Vaysh if she remains within the castle!
His pleas completed, Kip reflects inwardly. Never having been an overtly religious person, other than to invoke the name of one deity or another in times of celebration, Kip struggles to find a meaning in it all. He finds himself in unfamiliar territory. After a few moments of contemplation he turns to Kalev and says, Will you pray with me to Erastil for those upon the road and within the castle?

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

BAAARRRRUUUUMMHH!!
With Casimir's signal horn blaring, you rush your mounts towards the two-headed, troll-like beast, giving chase. The blaring of the horn catches its attention just as it was about to reach the civilians, and it seems to lick its lips in anticapation of your arrival. Now that your closer, you get a better look at the towering beast. The most discernible feature of this massive brute is its two heads. Its hide is mottled green-gray and covered in coarse, dark hair. Each head is identical: red eyes, drooping nose, and yellow fangs. Its arms and legs end in razor-sharpened claws. Its easily the largest being the Guardians have ever had to face, dwarfing even the Scythe Tree or the Tendriculous that ate Malthir and Kalev.
I believe everyone's mount is combat trained, but in this instance I would rule the mount needs to be trained in attack twice (such as for attacking Undead or Abberations) to overcome its natural inclination to flee in the face of such a monster. Thus, I am assuming everyone dismounts to meet the two-headed giant.
Your mounts quail in fear as the massive war-beast looms into sight, and its hard not to doubt your own ability to bring down such a behemoth. You dismount 500 hundred feet from the troll and prepare for the coming struggle... Noting that the massive beast sports a crossbow larger than most ballista. Six trollhounds accompany the brute, slavering in anticipation of feasting on your flesh.

Sorry for the brief post, but I have to run and don't want to hold things up.
Kip speaks a word and gestures, vanishing from sight. He then draws his wand of enlarge person. Stay close together, I shall enlarge you as soon as I can. Kalev you are first...

Malthir Al Dagon |

Round 1:Malthir will draw and consume his potion of expeditious retreat 5' step towards it.

Fenna Thistleswade |

Fenna listened calmly to the heated debate, and was about to speak a reminder of the importance of a quick consensus when the Guardians reached an accord. Now, dismounting before the looming beast, she spares a quick glance to the mass of people fleeing the terrifying sight, and another to the distant castle where another battle yet raged.
Holding the vial in the same hand as her buckler, ready to smash against the ground when the Guardian's giant foe is closer at hand, Fenna strides towards Kalev to lay her free hand on his arm. "Honourable Soldier, please lend your shield to guard this staunch defender of mankind from the brutish foe that he so bravely faces."
Shield of faith on Kalev (+3 deflection bonus to AC until round 61)

Casimir |

Casimir dismounts, draws his sword and calls out to the Guardians.
"Courage. He may be big, but that only means the crash he makes when we bring him down will be all that louder. He will meet a swift end."
Activate inspire courage.

Kip Bendybrook |

Kip listens to Cas' inspiring words and thinks to himself, That is a lot of real estate he will cover... I hope I am not standing in the wrong place when he falls. ;)
Kip adds to Cas' words, shouting in mocking righteous indignation, What!? Couldn't you send something bigger and uglier!?

Kalev Lehola |

His pleas completed, Kip reflects inwardly. Never having been an overtly religious person, other than to invoke the name of one deity or another in times of celebration, Kip struggles to find a meaning in it all. He finds himself in unfamiliar territory. After a few moments of contemplation he turns to Kalev and says, Will you pray with me to Erastil for those upon the road and within the castle?
Kalev looks at the much smaller halfling, then at the other Guardians, the few people Kalev truly trusts and smiles.
Sure, my stouthearted friend, that I will. And I will tell you all this: We shall fear not fire, nor fiend, nor foe as long as this group rides together under the banners of Kardas, but our enemies shall tremble and shake, and we shall blow them off the face of the earth with the fury of Gozreh's own thunder.
With that, Kalev sends a small prayer to Erastil, Old Deadeye, grant me the swiftness of the stag, yet let me be the hunter, not the hunted.
Cast Longstrider and wait until Kip and Fenna have cast their spells on him, after which he will race after Malthir.

Ricter Vorsk |

AC: 25
HP: 58/58
As the monster looms before them Ricter calls upon the mysterious power of law, hoping that it will answer him and give a sign that this course will not backfire on the Guardians.
"It has been decreed that you will be destroyed, and so shall it be!
Full round action to draw flail and shield, swift action to activate smite chaos. Next round Ricter starts to charge at the creature alongside Malthir. Hellknight armour gives him 30' move even when in heavy armour, meaning he'll be 30' behind the paladin at the end of round 3

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Nagrundi advances slowly, keeping his trollhounds around him as he moves at a steady pace, hefting the large crossbow he carries and sending a massive bolt flying through the air at Fenna. The projectile sails over her head harmlessly.

"May the Soldier's shield bolster the defence of this warrior, whose nimble blade protects Kardas from threats both obvious and unseen." Fenna prays as she moves to Casimir's side.
Shield of faith for Casimir, ends round 62
Next round will be the potion of bless, and trying to keep up as best as possible.

Casimir |

"Thank you, Fenna. Now, everybody, focus on the giant and ignore the troll hounds for now. Once we have brought him down, we will deal with them in short order."
Casimir then intones magic to make himself vanish from sight and moves forward.

Casimir begins running at Nagrundi.
Impressively, Ricter is managing to stay in front of him despite the incredibly heavy hellknight plate armour.
Aware his increased size will likely make him a target, Kalev doesn't run but hustles quickly towards Nagrundi.
Malthir also keeps running, his armour clearly weighing him down but the potion he imbibed compensating with increased speed.
Nagrundi fires his crossbow at Malthir but the oversized bolt thuds into the ground several metres away from him. Tossing the crossbow aside, Nagrundi and his hounds begin to move up to meet the attack.

I can probably assume Ricter goes along with that and assume a run action from Fenna at this point.

Nagrundi and his hounds advance towards you, hounds and two-headed troll all ready to bite and tear you limb from limb. The hounds stay close to Nagrundi as they form up, whether seeking to protect the monstrous giant or stay under his protection isn't clear.

Kip Bendybrook |

Round 6
Kip pops back into view as his magical invisibility ends. He looks up at the wall of terrible teeth and wicked claws that await his bravely charging companions. He feels extremely proud to be counted among their number this day! To be a Guardian! He also feels concern as they rush into the extreme danger of the waiting clump of trolls.
Quickly devising a new tactic, Kip stows his wand of enlarge move action and drops the other wand to the ground free action. He then gestures and intones a word of power standard action cast silent image DC 16 will if interacted with while calling out, Now Cas! Strike now! My magic will protect you from their claws! just as an illusion of Casimir pops into existence, much like Kip himself did just a moment ago. The image of Casimir running full out appears just in front of the pack of trolls, apparently charging the waiting monsters. With dueling sword in hand and determination upon his face, the image runs straight for the two-headed brute raising its sword as it does. Ready to strike a blow for good!. "Cas" appears in C 72 and charges Nagrundi hoping to deceive and sow confusion among the troll pack. (and trigger their readied attacks :)

and assume a run action from Fenna at this point.
You assume correctly, and the same again this round... I may need to start investing in potions of expeditious retreat to tide me over until 10th level.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Considering Casimir's voice is coming from a completely different location to his body, Kalev, Ricter, Fenna and Malthir are pretty confident the charging Casimir is an illusion. Nagrundi is not so sure.
Nagrundi lunges for Casimir as he approaches and the two-headed beasts claws pass right through him, leaving the beast looking puzzled. The trollhounds witness this but the central two still bite the illusion as it passes, looking confused when they try and tear Casimir to the ground and their teeth pass right through him.
Nagrundi makes an AOO as do Trollhounds 1 and 2. They still have their readied actions. Ruling they auto-pass the will save as Casimir is both incorporeal and not scentable to them. Or they just figure not to waste attacks on something they can't hit :).
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Edit: Having some doubt about how to rule this- i've made Nagrundi's will save VS illusion and the hounds. He passed and so did Trollhound 1- but Trollhound 2 is still holding its attack for now.
Casimir, Kalev, Malthir and Ricter are up.

Casimir |

Still too far away... Casimir curses silently, as he feels his magic invisibility begin to fade.
"Hold your ground. I'll give them a reason to move in a second." he calls out.

Ricter Vorsk |

As the giant looms Ricter slows his pace and raises his shield. He makes the final approach in formation with Kalev.
"Are we ignoring the hounds or getting them out of our way first?"
Double move 55' so as to be level with Kalev's front
Crunch time

Kip Bendybrook |

Hmmmmm... not how I envisioned events going. :/
Oh well, perhaps they won't pay any attention to Cas when he becomes visible, thinking him to be an illusion as well. :)
Kip watches with dismay as his plan is foiled when the furious charge slows and becomes a wary advance. Threatening to become a stalemate. Not that I blame them... but I didn't see that coming.
Kip steals a glance over his shoulder and looks towards the distant castle. A look of concern pinching his face. Returning his attention to the battle at hand, he thinks to himself, Should I remind them that time is of the utmost importance?
Kip stays silent, mentally preparing his next course of action....

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Readied actions were not triggered for the full round so Trollhounds and Nagrundi to act on their previous init counts at the bottom of the round.
Nagrundi bellows and stamps his massive foot on the ground- as no one moved within his reach the troll's impatience gets the best of him. The trollhounds surge forward to attack, with the exception of one of them who wastes time trying to maul an illusion and then steps out of the way.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Will save failure
Kalev- five AOO's have been provoked by charging trollhounds. Lets resolve those if your taking any before I resolve the trollhound's attacks.

Kalev Lehola |

AoO(trollhound): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (2, 8) + 17 = 27
AoO (trollhound): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (8, 3) + 17 = 28
AoO (Nagrundi - if necessary): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
Damage: 2d8 + 21 ⇒ (4, 4) + 21 = 29
Crit confirm (trollhound): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (3, 4) + 17 = 24

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

As far as I can tell you've applied the extra damage from power attack but not the penalty to attack rolls- I make it +13 for the normal attacks (+12 base, +1 inspire, +1 bless, +1 AOO, -2 power attack) and +17 for the AOO's on Nagrundi. Damage seems correct. Let me know if i'm missing something on the attacks.
Kalev downs one of the two trollhounds rushing at him with a quick swing of his bardiche and the hound falls with a pitiful yelping sound- he then seriously wounds another. The gaping, slashing wounds he dealt slowly begin to heal over as the surviving ravenous, slavering, voracious beast completes its charge alongside the others attacking Malthir and Ricter.
Kalev's armour is proof against the wounded hound's impotent attack, and he keeps himself focused on Nagrundi. Malthir is barely able to use his shield to ward off a hound whose spittle covered teeth come perilously close to his throat, while Ricter faces the attacks of two hounds; one of them managaing to tear his teeth through his plate boot and latch its jaws around his leg, trying to tear him to the ground. It takes every ounce of skill, strength and dexterity to resist the trip but the Hellknight just barely keeps his feet, kicking the mutt in the face with a bootful of Hellknight steel.
Hounds-
VS Kalev-
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 Miss

VS Malthir-
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 Miss VS AC26 (Barely)
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Damage
VS Ricter (2 hounds)-
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 Miss VS AC25
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Crit threat
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Damage
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Crit unconfirmed
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Free Action Trip (fail, barely)
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Ricter VS Disease
Then Nagrundi approaches, towering over the battlefield in all his monstrous glory. Kalev almost manages to cut through Nagrundi's meaty chest with a supreme effort of focus and strength on his part, but despite all his strength, the half-orc's third blow is not quite forceful enough to pierce Nagrundi's tough skin. Nevertheless, an urging command from Casimir rings over the battlefield, the words tinged with magical power- the magic invigorates the Ranger who redoubles his efforts; and first blood is his as Nagrundis torso is slashed by the blow.
The above paragraph has been edited in light of Gallant Inspiration.
Roaring in bestial rage, Nagrundi steps up and with one massive, powerful swing of his behemoth of a right claw- he savages Kalev, Malthir and Ricter- their armour crumpling and being torn asunder by the power of his blow as the flesh beneath is dealt deep slashing wounds that would easily kill lesser men.
Technically hes Great Cleaving with his bite attack but i'm fluffing it as a massive claw swing as it sounds much better in my mind.
VS Kalev-
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
2d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 4) + 16 = 21
VS Malthir-
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
2d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 2) + 16 = 23

The paragraph describing Kalev's attack on Nagrundi has been edited to accomodate Gallant Inspiration. Thanks for the speedy response Casimir :).
Edit: Shame on you Maladin. Poor Kip, you know perfectly well he only has one 3rd level spell and its Slow ;).
That's why we bought him some scrolls of fireball.... :)
