DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Initiative: 1d20 + 5
Remember, you all have +2 to initiative checks and Perception, Stealth, and Survival because of me
Remember only +4- your not in Kardas anymore... (pun intended)
Sorry I didn't have time to be very descriptive earlier, I literally had to post and then leave within 60 seconds later. I'll add some description for clarity, but first the map-
The small four man group appears to be a band of slavers, but the name Karas may be chillingly familiar to certain members of the Guardians...
Slavers-
These two men are clearly veterans. Dressed in studded leather armour and wielding Guisarmes, they are also equipped with nasty looking spiked gauntlets for getting up close and personal. Each has a pair of bolas strapped to their belts as well as a set of manacles.
Karas-
Kalev has caught a glimpse of a figure in imposing breastplae armour, but no one else has seen any sign of him.
Trapper-
This man has the look of an experienced woodsman about him, judging from his attire and gear he is likely a local hunter or trapper.
Round One-
K-1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
T-1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
S-1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Ordered Initiative-
Ilya- 23
Trapper- 22
Fenna- 20
Karas- 17
Malthir- 16
Casimir- 14
Slavers- 14
Kalev- 5
Ilya is up. Please spoiler your actions to me, but feel free to describe what the other Guardians see happen (or I will if it requires a roll on my part).
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Suddenly a thick layer of grease coats the forest floor beneath the slaver on the east side (Slaver 1), but there is no sign of Ilya.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The surprised slaver loses his balance and falls into the grease facefirst, cursing Elves and the mothers that bore them...
Unpertubed, the hunter nocks another arrow and takes extra care to target Kalevs armours weak points.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 Hit VS FF
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Edit: Kalev please ignore the damage, the arrow missed again- forgot your all getting partial cover in all circumstances from dense forest.
Fenna Thistleswade |
Fenna guides her thick furred mount slowly through the thick foliage and beseeches her god for aid, whilst resting one hand on the etchings upon her breastplate and reaching out to lay the other on Kalev's arm, "I ask for the Soldier's shield to guard the rightful rulers of Kardas from the enemies of our noble land."
move to M-9 and cast shield of faith on Kalev.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Like mice to a block of cheese! So predictable! Karas bellows, laughing and taunting Malthir as he moves towards the Guardians fearlessly, an ornate two-bladed sword in his hands and a shining suit of breastplate armour protecting him.
Come and die quickly Malthir- I have an appointment to finish the Al Dagon family line once we're done here- thoughtful of you to bring them so close...
Karas moves to square -C4. He appears to be under the effects of transmutation magic, his already incredibly strong physique literally enhanced so that the very integrity of his armour is threatened by his bulk...
Casimir |
An icy shiver runs down Casimir's spine as he recognizes the voice of Karas, fellow student of the Aldori dueling schools and killer of Malthir's brother. Knowing the pride and honor codes of his paladin friend, after hearing Karas' taunts, he softly says to Malthir, Careful, friend. I know you wish to take him on alone, but you will not honor Aroden's memory by repeating his mistakes. Let us help you take him down.
Malthir Al Dagon |
An icy shiver runs down Casimir's spine as he recognizes the voice of Karas, fellow student of the Aldori dueling schools and killer of Malthir's brother. Knowing the pride and honor codes of his paladin friend, after hearing Karas' taunts, he softly says to Malthir, Careful, friend. Okay I know this is more than 6 seconds, but it is flavor as the battle unfolds so bear with me.
He turns to Casimir as he dismounts dropping the lance and drawing his blade, I know Cas, the one thing that you have all taught me is that justice and honor are noble words but for the love of my people I must put my own desires, my own wishes behind the good of the kingdom. It would be so easy for Karas' shallow words to draw me out, to fight the duel he would probably win. I am no bladesmaster but I am Malthir Al Dagon, Baron of Kardas, and I have something that Karas can never understand, I have Iomedae on my side. Iomedae, grant me your boon to fight the evil that stands before me!.
Swift action to Smite Evil on Karas (if it works), move action to draw a potion of enlarge. Dismount into M-8
Kalev Lehola |
I'm having people over for my birthday tonight, so will not be available later. So Kalev will advance cautiously forward, using trees for cover when possible. Of course, if Slavers do something really strange, that might change.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
The left hand slaver keeps his Guisarme close to hand as he moves swiftly over to engage the Guardians, ending his turn just out of reach of striking distance of Kalev.
The right hand slaver gets up to his feet, and slowly and carefully moves clear of the greased area, almost slipping up several times.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Acrobatics vs DC10
Kalev can easily move and attack now, what do you reckon guys?
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Kalev steps forward into a duel of reach weapons, swinging his Ranseur at the Slaver with tremendous force. The branches impeding him and the studded leather armour of the slaver prove no protection against Kalev's wrath, and Davik Nettles ranseur cuts deeply into the mans chest causing the man to cry out in surprise and pain.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 (Power attack)
2d4 + 13 ⇒ (1, 3) + 13 = 17 (Power attack)

Ilya is up. Please spoiler your actions to me, but feel free to describe what the other Guardians see happen (or I will if it requires a roll on my part).
-E3 in case you forgot :)
Edit: Slight mess up- the second slaver is in J3 having escaped the grease.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Can't 5-foot step i'm afraid- difficult terrain. I've assumed you use a move action.
The trapper resists the color spray growling fiercely, then nocks another arrow- this one aimed at Ilya- the arrow just barely missing Ilya, glancing off of a low hanging branch inches from Ilya's face...
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Fenna Thistleswade |
"Please, let it be so," she intones, reaching out to Malthir with her white hand before she notices Ilya appear, isolated through the thick tangle.
With a concerned frown, she begins to guide Dandelion along the overgrown path.
Shield of faith on Malthir, then move to J-7
Malthir Al Dagon |
Round 2 Action
He says to Casimir "Casimir" to get his attention
Malthir drinks his potion of Enlarge and moves forward 20' to be next to Kalev. He wants to take up K-8, K-7, L-8, L-7.
AC is now 22. vs. Karas I have an AC 23 due to smite. 1st round of enlarge
Casimir |
Casimir nods to Malthir. In a moment. Let me just help Kalev remove this distraction first.
He then tumbles 15 ft forward and slashes at the injured slaver.
acrobatics 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Att 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Dmg 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Malthir Al Dagon |
In response to Karas' taunts...
So this is the mighty Karas, once the pride of the Aldori Swordlords, now just a pretty criminal. It is fitting that you will die without glory in these woods, yes come to your doom...
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Remember your move speed is effectively halved due to difficult terrain Malthir, have moved you ten feet next to Kalev.
Casimir bounds forward and attempts to tumble over the slaver's guisarme to attack him- but instead the Guisarme blocks his path. The slaver attempts to trip Casimir, who deflects the polearm away from his legs and hacks into the slaver brutally.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 VS CMD
This close, Casimir can see that the slaver's Guisarme is tipped with some kind of substance- the man swings his Guisarme at Kalev but the polearm glances off the warrior's armour. His confidence wavering by this point, the slaver nevertheless stands his ground.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
2d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7
Ok who replaced my dice with fail?
The second slaver hurls his bolas at the enlarged giant, attempting to trip him up and wound him. The bolas flies true, sending Malthir crashing to the ground mid taunt.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 CMB success
Kalev Lehola |
Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 - 2 = 11
Damage: 2d4 + 13 ⇒ (3, 4) + 13 = 20
Kalev tries to use the distraction offered by Casimir's attack, but miss his target as he nearly trips over a branch. Cursing in Orcish, Kalev hopes to bring down this opponent soon to help the downed Malthir.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Anchoring the web both to the ground and to some branches, Ilya traps the trapper in his conjuration- and everyone loses sight of the trapper through the strands of web. He does not yet emerge.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 CMB to escape VS DC17
The trapper has done his thing. Fenna's up.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Fenna has e-mailed me an action.
Fenna rides Dandelion a little to the right and intones "Please, give these wretched creatures a glimpse of your all encompassing vision."
As she utters the final syllable of her request, a nebulous haze of shifting colours fades into view across the trees and reaching the slaver.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
For a moment it seems as though the slaver will resist the spell, wincing in exertion asthe wash of colours passes over him- but Fenna's gnomish heritage allows her to modify the illusion at the last moment and the exhausted slaver succumbs to the magic, knocking him unconcious.
See colour spray.
2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
1d4 ⇒ 3
1 round stun.
Karas moves closer and closer to Malthir, eager anticipation and bloodlust visible in his eyes as he whirls his blades around him with stunning prowess. He ends his turn in F-6.
Malthir and Casimir.
Malthir Al Dagon |
Round 3 Action
No big surprise, I draw my weapon as I stand up and ready an action to attack Karas as soon as he is in my reach.
enlarged +1 longsword smite pwr atk 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 dam 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 3) + 13 = 17

Casimir |
With the trapper and other slaver incapacitated, Casimir presses the attack against the man in front of him, eager to bring him down before Karas reaches the Guardians.
Two-handed pwr att + Arcane Strike:
Attack roll 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Damage roll 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Two-handed pwr att + Arcane Strike: Crit confirmation
Attack roll 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Damage roll 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
If the attack is enough to drop the slaver, Casimir uses his move action to pull a tanglefoot bag from his Adventures satchel.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
My 24 hour policy kicks in.
Kalev stands beside Malthir and keeps his Ranseur at the ready to attack.
Readied action.
Round 4
Ordered Initiative-

Fenna- 20
Karas- 17
Casimir- 14
Slavers- 14
Kalev and Malthir have readied actions which are their actions for this round.

Kalev Lehola |
I can't see the map for some reason, but according to description, I can attack, so...Will use Hunter's Focus on Karas.
Kalev lunges out at Karas, hoping to catch him in the flank.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d4 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 + 2 = 13

I can't see the map for some reason, but according to description, I can attack, so...Will use Hunter's Focus on Karas.
Kalev lunges out at Karas, hoping to catch him in the flank.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2
Damage: 2d4 + 7 + 2
I've put you down as a readied action- is this the attack roll in case he triggers it or do you want Kalev to move forward and engage Karas?
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Retcon-
Kalev moves forward to attack Karas, his ranseur glancing harmlessly off Karas' breastplate.
Malthir your readied action is clearly not going to happen so you'll act on your existing init count of 16. I'll allow you to keep your attack roll on your init count.
Ilya's up. Kalev is in H8.
Ilya Shukhov |
Ilya walks calmly up to the edge of the webbing (-C4), aims his crossbow at the Trapper, and calls to him. "You have a singular opportunity, friend. Here, trapped in my spell, helpless, with my quite-lethal bolt aimed at your heart, you can make a choice. Stand down and you will be treated with fairness as a prisoner. Continue resisting and you will be slain. Seems generous, doesn't it? Especially considering you attacked us. Simply drop your weapon and you get to to see the sun rise tomorrow."
Diplomacy
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Not trying to 'influence attitude,' only 'make a request.' +2 bonus and two rolls thanks to Patient Optimist trait.
Fenna Thistleswade |
Pulling out the ornate, but sturdy aspergillum from a sash at her waist, the pale ex-prophetess circles around Karas to place herself closer to the injured or dead gnome.
double move north east (column 0, the same row as Karas) and draw the battle aspergillum.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Karas steps in to engage Kalev (move action), and the half-orc swings his Ranseur as his foe closes, the blow once again glancing off Karas' fine armour.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Karas swings a single end of his dual-sword in a massive, powerful swing that cuts straight through Kalev's defences and wounds him terribly. Karas appears to suffer backlash as the energy from his weapon also wounds him.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
2d8 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (7, 1) + 14 + (3, 5) = 30 Vital Strike!
1d6 ⇒ 5 Damage to Karas
Malthir and Casimir are up. Malthir i'll let you keep the crit you rolled if you attack this round- but i'm rolling to see if its negated by the light fortification on Karas' breastplate.
1d100 ⇒ 70 1-25= negated.
Thats a full crit for you then...
Malthir Al Dagon |
Malthir sees the massive blow to his friend and knows this is a critical moment in the battle. Seeing the tanglefoot bag in Casimir's hand he hesitates a moment to let Casimir's bag stike its intended target. Whether the bag hits or not Malthir follows Casimir in and moves to strike Karas with all of the strength that Iomedae has given him.
Delay to Init 13 count. Assuming he is in G-7 single move to I-7&I-6 and attack Karas. Per original rolls hit AC 30 for 17 points, confirm up to AC 21 for an additional 25 points for a total of 42 points of damage.
Glowing with Iomedae's fury at the slaver's treatment of the Gnomes, Malthir lands a massive blow that certainly gets Karas' attention.
Karas, I am here now, isn't it me you want, come let us cross blades for the final time!
enlarged +1 longsword smite pwr atk 1d20 + 11 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 1 + 1 = 31 dam 2d6 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5) + 12 + 1 = 21

Whether the bag hits or not Malthir follows Casimir in and moves to stike him with all of the strength that Iomedae has given him.
I certainly hope you don't move to strike ME! That would be very, very bad. ;-)
Malthir Al Dagon |
Alex, BTW I wanted to try a sense motive on Karas if he responds back to my taunt to see if I can detect if he is under some type of magical compulsion. Malthir just gets a weird vibe from Karas and his actions.
sense motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Kalev Lehola |
Kalev yells in pain, blood flowing freely from the horrible wound.
Dropping his now useless ranseur and unslinging his long-shafted greataxe, Kalev ducks another attack and swings in a great horizontal arch.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Damage: 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
