Scramsax
"You picked the wrong summit, Blackbloods!" shouted Scram as he recklessly dashed down the mountain, the smallest avalanche of all time with one very pointy end flipping furiously into the orc flesh...
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Dmg: 1d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (3, 2) = 14
Dashed to get into melee so no offhand.
Ravvek the Avenger
Go! Go! Go! Rav says as he gestures to the others to make their way down, bringing up the rear. He makes sure that the others do not see the arrow deep in his ribs. Figure, despite the pitiful damage it is a critical. :)
Concentration: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Hunter's Mark is down.
Essentially, Rav readies an action to Dash down to support combat while the others make their way down, or at least to the top of the stairway below the orcs'.
Uriah Lewis
Uriah moves up, drawing his Rapier and making sure the refugees get a good look at him being brave.
Heathen dogs! You will taste the cold steel of the Famed Songsmith Uriah!
Uriah is casting Vicious Mockery Wisdom DC13 or take 1d4 ⇒ 1 damage and have disadvantage on next attack
Raiden Bartok
Raiden rushes forward ahead of the bunch at the back, sword drawn, determined to help take out those orcs.
He already had his sword drawn so couldn't pull out a thrown weapon, and I don't want to double move just to stand in front of an orc and get taken out in the next round.
Greycastle
Scramsax rushes forward and disembowels one of the orcs.
Sashah is up.
Anton and Zayless can go and I will perform their actions after Sashah.
Orc 2 -11 hps
Myastan Zayless
Zayless moves forward and readies another blast.
Eldritch Blast: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Furthest Orc.
Damage?: 1d10 ⇒ 10
Anton Jiang
Anton punches the orc in the gut, and then brings his sword down on its head.
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Greycastle
Sashah grumbles something about libraries and books never where they should be.
Uriah Zayless and Anton eliminate the remaining orc.
Another volley of arrows shoot out of the slits.
Zayless: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 for Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Uriah: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 for Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Ravvek: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Zayless is grazed by the shot.
If everyone spends their movement to dash and move you will be clear of the archery holes. If you are choosing to stay and fight let me know.
Uriah Lewis
Ofc Uriah dashes. But not first, never that.
Ravvek the Avenger
Ravvek takes up the rear to try and cover everyone else.
Scramsax
Scramsax bounds down the mountainside, enjoying the fresh air and lack of arrows piercing his little torso.
Sashah
indeed Sashah grumbles a bunch. Sorry all life got an exciting burst but it has calmed down now.
Greycastle
The group descends the mountain stair which ends in an worn path, barely discernible now after the decades since this was a dwarven city. You make the trek down the mountain. The going is slow due to it being night time, but you do not seem to be pursued and soon enough you feel the urgency of escape waning.
whats the plan? Your “best guess” without a survival roll is your probably a day away from the road to Blasingdel and another two days from there to the town. I’m assuming you want to escort the prisoners home, anything else? Are we continuing and doing the FoF or is this it? I’ll have exp/AL details posted this evening for this short leg of the adventure that you did do.
Ravvek the Avenger
Well, there are pluses and minuses: On the good side, there is a boatload of magic items; on the bad side, this adventure is pretty long and I don't know if I have the stamina to do it on via PbP.
Ravvek is more concerned with getting the survivors home. He might be persuaded to come back and help clear out the orcs, but probably would not go lower. I know that we are supposed to run entire chapters, but for reasons mentioned above, I do not think I would be able to tough it out past that. That being said, I am totally down for a module, if everyone else is up for it!
Scramsax
Sorry, Im sort of confused. Was this an AL module or part of the FoF we just completed?
Ravvek the Avenger
@Scarm, we were just doing enough of Forge of Fury to get out of the dungeon, because A Thousand Tiny Deaths was designed to be a lead-in for Forge of Fury.
Sashah
If I didn't continue her I'd probably look for another AL PbP, so why not? Though Sashah does miss his halfling compatriot.
Ravvek the Avenger
I can run a module if you all would like, then Greycastle could play again... I would have to look at what to run though. Would you all like to run through Season 5, or maybe Ravenloft Season 4? ;)
Scramsax
I had also promised to run a mod for Aesh. My other AL game is very close to concluding, so I wouldn't mind starting it. Plus my summer break is going to begin in a few weeks. Season 7
Ravvek the Avenger
If we move on through the Season of Ravenloft, I am willing to go through it with you guys (and even take turns in running!)
Ravvek the Avenger
I want to be clear that the main reason that I am suggesting Season 4 is because I have not gone through it, but I also am fairly inexperienced in Season 2 (Elemental Evil) and Season 3 (Rage of Demons) as well. Then there are also the CCC modules as well, which I have only played a few...
Myastan Zayless
I am down to continue on. I think at this point in game getting the peeps home is primary.
Greycastle
M good with any of these solutions. I would be fine to continue this as well as play in a game Aesh or Scram runs. It is up to you guys. I’ve been trying to up my DM cred so continuing is just fine. If someone wants to drop because they want that char in another game that’s fine too. Lots of options lol.
Ravvek the Avenger
If you are up for running the whole Forge of Fury, I will try to stick with it for as long as I can... ^_^
Myastan Zayless
By continue on I mean keep playing whatever the adventure is.
Ravvek the Avenger
It seems that general consensus is that everyone is up to continue. Uriah still has to chime in, but I think everyone else has put in their vote. Let us go back and drop off the two civilians and we can return to assault the front door!
Uriah Lewis
Uriah is good for whatever allows him to sing songs, find maidens, sing more songs and take all the credit!
Ravvek the Avenger
Maybe we spend some time studying up in town to learn more about this place that we just stumbled across. Something a little strange about orcs in a stronghold, unless we are talking about the Many Arrows kingdom...
Scramsax
Along the way back to town, Scram again struggles with the rusty hunter's trap, hoping for more fresh meat.
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Greycastle
busy weekend guys sorry. I’ll get is up and running tomorrow even sometime.
Greycastle
Sorry for the delay. I’ll try to keep the pace up so that we may be able to get through this in a relatively acceptable time frame.
As the party reaches the lower hills leading up to the Stone Toothit is apparent that your charges are not going to make it much further. The night time descent of the mountain was rough on everyone due to rough rocks, the occasional brush, and loose stones. Everyone has scratches and bruises but nothing permanent.
The group takes a break as the sun crests the mountains. Your breath still able to be seen in the morning air tells of the chill that has returned to your bodies since being in the warmer caves under the mountain.
Short Rest or Long Rest, your new companions require one or the other.
After speaking with Geradil about where Blasingdell is located compared to the Stone Tooth, you are fairly certain that South rather than West back to the road would shave at least a day of travel off of your trip. Not to mention the brother’s claim is NE of Blasingdell. It will have a higher risk of encountering wild threats though. Area Map garnered through description and drawings in the dirt.
Ravvek the Avenger
Wisdom (Survival): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
We could shave a day off the trip if we head South, but there could be a fair bit more danger as the terrain lends itself to predators. I am okay with taking a short rest here, maybe an hour, then continue to move. We have to make time, Ravvek says, looking at their charges, We'll need to rest, but I would feel better putting more space between us and the orcs.
Uriah Lewis
Uriah plays his harp and sings a little ditty about "Kobolds tails and rakish delights"
Myastan Zayless
"Good plan." Zayless looks off into he air as Uriah plays, "Yes he does seem to focus on fetishes. Almost exclusively."
Sashah
Sashah spends the time studying one of his many books. Dirt and wear are now quite visible on his once pristine robes. As usual he grumbles a decent amount about the peace and quiet of libraries.
Scramsax
"Town? Oh god what are we waiting for, hell yeah. There's a sweet honey bun and hot spiced ale with my name on it."
Raiden Bartok
I need another break after watching Anton. How...do you....never mind. Raiden practices a few swings with his sword and feels dex check: 1d20 ⇒ 13 a bit better about his own skill.
Greycastle
The group rests for a while. Geradil and Couran plop down on nearby rocks, lack of nutrition impacting their stamina greatly. It’s not long though before Ravvek is up and packing his gear.
By midday the party reaches the tree line. The green pines standing like sentinels offer no sign of what lie beyond. The wood here begins sparse and spread out but as you continue to descend creep closer to one another making traveling a little slower. The trees do however give you a natural break from the wind so there is that caveat.
A few hours after midday, your companions are exhausted but are soldiering on the best they can. The group has been traveling well beyond a normal days travel but the thought of town has been fuel for thier engines. By this time the canopy has filled in some, still allowing light into the forest, but everything has taken on a green hew as it filtered through the leaves and pine branches.
Three giant spiders the trees
Initiative
Scramsax: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Uriah: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Ravvek: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Myastan: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Anton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Raiden: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Sashah: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Enenies: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Myastan Raiden, Uriah, and Anton may act before the spiders if they have the appropriate perception to act in the suprise round.
Uriah Lewis
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Uriah is as oblivious to whatever is in the trees as he is to his own predilection for singing about sexual strangeness.
Anton Jiang
Looking up into the trees, Anton shouts to his companions, "Get them to safety!" He then leaps forward, climbing the tree and attacks the nearest spider with his sword and a kick.
Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Ravvek the Avenger
Rav will have offered the pair some of his rations.
Ravvek also notices nothing, too distracted by Uriah's lewd singing! :p
Raiden Bartok
Raiden tries to make sure that Geradil and Couran are behind him and Rav, moving to position himself as best as he can. Move back! He throws a hammer at which ever spider is in range (20') ranged attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 and hopefully connects.
