:< I think we might of consigned Ruan to a quick death.

Bashiel springs into action, striding around the table to cover Zamanda and hopefully Ruan. As he does, he calls upon Osiris to protect all of them against this terrible evil. The air behind Bashiel's head flares up in a green-rimmed golden halo of light and a protective ward washes over not only the party but Ruan as well.

He raises his blade, determined to fight this foul, undead monstrosity despite its obvious power.

Moved and activated Angelic Bond. 'While the halo shines, all allies within 20 feet gain the benefits of protection from evil, except the deflection and resistance bonuses are +3.' Other benefits include all of us being immune to attempts to possess or exercise mental control over us. Take THAT vampire domination effects!

No worries, Ilsa. We’ve been moving at a brisk pace.

Kalem, having bluffed his way into arm’s reach, leapt forward, swinging his new scythe. It blazed with the last of his infernal fire as he sought to end this as quickly as he could. His first swing bounces off of an invisible shield and his second misses Ramoska entirely. Kalem, you acted first after Ramoska, so you wouldn’t get a flanking bonus. I’m also not sure what your bless bonus refers to.

Ilsa tries to get into a better position, but the powerful undead creature seems to be looking right through her every time she thinks of moving.

This is a creature of great power--we should not have broken this agreement so lightly…

Still feeling rotten from the disease she's recently contracted, she casts a spell to protect herself, then moves to protect the young man.

Malen, finally freed from inaction by Ramoska’s preemptive actions, the priest was alarmed that the nosferatu seemed to be making Ruan his initial target. Intoning a quick prayer to Pharasma as he moved toward the creature, he reached out to attempt to transfer his Goddess’ blessings into the powerful undead. The spell manages to touch the vampire, but it doesn’t do as much damage as the cleric had hoped. Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 16 - 2 = 30

Zamanda realizes that she has failed to allow her group to get into position, and that the freaking vampire still has access to the boy, no matter what she does.

The air behind Bashiel's head flares up in a green-rimmed golden halo of light and a protective ward washes over not only the party but Ruan as well.

He raises his blade, determined to fight this foul, undead monstrosity despite its obvious power.

Ramoska pulls out a vial of some sort and continues to chide, “Really though, you should not be so reckless as to antagonize one so much more dangerous than yourselves. You may think your actions heroic, but they are simply foolish. This could have been so much simpler if you would have just given me the coffer.”

Some of Ramoska’s wounds heal before your eyes. He then drinks the vial’s contents. Bashiel and Kalem can both take an AoO. Technically, Ilsa would get one as well, but I’m not sure that’s realistic with Ruan and the table between you and Ramoska. He’d probably be considered to have improved cover. I don’t think Malen has a weapon drawn to do so.

DM, I don't think Ramoska is allowed a save versus my Cure spell delivered via touch.

Seeing the group's work do little to dissuade the vampire from it's course of action, the creature bothered so little that it continued to taunt them as it did...whatever it was doing, Malen again called upon Pharasma, transforming a blessing he had been granted into a healing spell of even greater power. He did this while being mindful of the vampire's talons, certain that he wouldn't like the feeling should he be hit by one. Once he felt the divine energy flowing through him, he reached forth yet again to deliver Her judgment.

Bashiel spends his moment of opportunity to try to sunder the vial before the vampire can drink it!
Sunder AoO, w/ inspire: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 14 + 2 = 30 (Considering he's a caster, that may be a success! Still provokes AoO in response if he wants to take it, though I have my fingers crossed that he's a caster and his AoOs suck.)
Sunder damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19

BTW, we never spellcrafted the spell he cast on round 1. Probably a good idea in case someone has a dispel magic to strip it off.

He then calls out "Osiris judges you, fiend." Invoking Ghostly Smite on him. And readies himself to land a blow on the heavily warded creature in case the vampire begins spellcasting.

Readied Action - Trigger: Ramoska attempts to cast a spell:

One thing that crossed my mind this morning: Did the vampire use a spell component pouch when he cast his spell in round 1? If so, we may want to try to sunder that as well. If he did use a spell component pouch: can Bashiel's readied action instead be a Sunder attempt vs. the pouch? I feel like that'd be way more effective than just trying to do damage.

Maps | Info | Bashiel's Loot Table

Kalem, you only take the damage from Vicious if your attack lands, so you haven’t taken any damage from it yet.

Malen, Cure spells allow undead to make a Will save for half damage. Having to succeed at a touch attack doesn’t preclude the Will save.

Bashiel, he didn’t use a spell component pouch.

Bashiel’s AoO:
Bashiel spends his moment of opportunity trying to sunder the vial before the vampire can drink it! The paladin’s effort succeeds and the vial is shattered before Ramoska can consume it. The vampire doesn’t have any obvious weapons equipped and doesn’t bother lashing out in response to Bashiel’s attack. Ramoska merely looks a bit exasperated.

Kalem swung the scythe three times. A normal man would have been cut in half by the assault, but this wasn’t a normal man they were facing. He knew that this was going to hurt, but he hoped this time around it hurt the foe more than himself. All three of Kalem’s swings are repelled by Ramoska’s defenses. The vampire looks untouched by the bloodrager’s attacks.

Ilsa does her best to free the young man from his restraints while the others keep the vampire occupied. She maintains her stare on him, though. Ruan is secured to the table with iron bars that can’t simply be removed. On the north side of the table is a lever that can be moved to the left or the right. There is a word on either end in Varisian. There are twenty notches that the lever can be moved into. The lever is currently in the tenth notch. Moving the lever one notch over in either direction is a full round action.

Malen, seeing the group's work do little to dissuade the vampire from its course of action, the creature bothered so little that it continued to taunt them as it did...whatever it was doing, Malen again called upon Pharasma, transforming a blessing he had been granted into a healing spell of even greater power. He did this while being mindful of the vampire's talons, certain that he wouldn't like the feeling should he be hit by one. Once he felt the divine energy flowing through him, he reached forth yet again to deliver Her judgment. The vampire winces slightly as positive energy is forced into him. The Pharasman’s attack definitely hurt more than his last one, but not as much as he had hoped. Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 16 - 2 = 24

Zamanda, as she continues to sing, draws her bow and shoots at the undead monstrosity, praying to whatever deity is listening Please save Ruan, and... you know, while you're at it, a better bow would be nice, so I can fight evil. Just tell me what you want in return, and it is yours.

The bard’s first arrow lands, but doesn’t do as much damage as Zamanda had hoped. I think you did all the math right, Zamanda, but Bashiel can probably correct me if I’m wrong. (Though you didn’t actually crit, in this case.)

Bashiel identifies the spell Ramoska cast as Shield.

He then calls out "Osiris judges you, fiend." Invoking Ghostly Smite on him. And readies himself to land a blow on the heavily warded creature in case the vampire begins spellcasting.

Ramoska still seems quite relaxed despite being surrounded on all sides and being outnumbered five to one. If anything, he seems more disappointed than threatened by all of you.

More of his wounds heal as he casts a spell at Kalem faster than almost anyone can respond. Bashiel is ready, but his strike fails to land. The spell weakens Kalem’s strength. Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 181d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10Kalem Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 22 5 points of strength damage to Kalem

Ramoska then attempts to cast a second spell and succeeds in doing so without opening himself up to attacks. Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31

The room fills with a noxious yellow fog that smells like rancid vegetables and rotting meat. Everyone but Zamanda and Ruan manage to steel themselves against the smell, at least for now. Zamanda and Ruan are now nauseated. Zamanda as long as she remains in the fog plus 2 rounds and Ruan as long as he remains in the fog plus 3 rounds.

Fort Saves:

Fortitude Save (Bashiel): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 = 21
Fortitude Save (Ilsa): 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 3 = 23
Fortitude Save (Kalem): 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 20
Fortitude Save (Malen): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22
Fortitude Save (Zamanda): 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 3 = 14 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Fortitude Save (Ruan): 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 3 = 14 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

I think I got everyone’s save bonuses in there, but let me know if I missed something. Keep in mind some of you already had a resistance bonus, so Bashiel’s aura would only provide an extra +1 or +2.
Those of you who succeeded but choose to remain in the cloud (basically just in the room everyone’s currently in) must make another DC 18 Fort Save on your turn or become nauseated.

Once the vampire is finished casting his spells, he says, “I will accept your surrender at any time. There will be consequences, of course, but you will at least be allowed to escape with your lives. You should be grateful. It’s more than many others of my kind would offer.”

Ranged touch attacks are still ranged attacks and provoke attacks of opportunity from Kalem and Bashiel unless this fella has Point Blank Master. This is separate from the attack that could have been provoked from casting (but wasn't because it was a swift action cast). These should happen before the STR damage goes through.

Kalem and Zamanda, you might wanna burn a Harrow point to reroll that Fort save?

Bashiel attempts to trip the vampire as his attack of opportunity!
Longsword AoO to trip: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 14 + 2 + 2 = 29 Presumably knocking him prone and giving Kalem a +4 on his own attack roll?

Depending on whether he ends up prone, we may have a pretty different next turn.

Good suggestion on the Harrow point, but even if I passed on a second try, staying in the room would just make me roll it again, and I only have a +3 fort save, so I'd probably end up just like this again. Might be able to shoot/cast from the doorway.

Continuing a Bardic Performance is a free action... can I do that while nauseated (says a single move action, but doesn't address free actions). Also, if this is an actual vampire, arrows should get around DR because they are piercing and wood, like little mini spikes. I looked it up yesterday, but can't remember the link... said it works even if they have a metal head, but again, can't remember the link, and of course you are the DM, so if you disagree, I'll live.

--If she can even though she feels very sick, Zamanda keeps singing. She can read Varisian, so she can also see what the levers say, and she will read that before leaving (she can't actually move them since it is a full round action).

If singing and reading take up her turn, or singing alone, let me know. I'll stop there for now, but if she can sing and read and move, she will attempt to move out of the noxious cloud, being unable to help Ruan at this time.

--If Zamanda is unable to continue singing, she asks What kind of consequences? The boy is what we care about, as we made clear earlier. It shouldn't have been surprising to you that we were trying to position ourselves to protect him.

Zamanda, fair point about the arrows. I adjusted Ramoska’s damage taken accordingly. Also, for roleplay purposes, we’ll say you were able to speak even while continuing your performance. Inspiring courage is a supernatural ability, after all. And yes, since you were already performing, you can keep doing so as a free action.

Also, this is my fault for not mentioning it or noticing it, but the fog is going to inflict a 20% miss chance (if you’re within 5ft of Ramoska). Bashiel rolled for himself (and pointed it out to me in the process - thanks Bashiel!), but I’ll roll for Malen since it won’t matter for Kalem’s attacks. Going forward, you can roll those for yourselves. Low misses, high hits. Also going forward, try to use a d100 for rolling miss chance. I know other numbers work, but d100 is what I’ll normally use for miss chance, so probably best to be consistent across the board (hence why I’m going to roll a d5 for this round).

Kalem had a bad feeling about this. Every instinct he had screamed at him to run, but his friends were holding their ground. So he continued his assault...though he had no hope as to its effectiveness. He just hoped that someone got out of this one alive. His attack of opportunity penetrates the vampire’s defensives, dealing a decent blow, but Ramoska doesn’t seem to take the full effect. Kalem’s subsequent efforts are less effective and neither blow lands. I assume you meant for me to apply the penalties to your attacks since I don’t see where they were already subtracted from your rolls.

Ilsa, seeing few options to get the young man free, steps toward the door as she tries not to breathe.

She casts castigate on the vampire, hoping to keep things from getting out of control. Her tactic works and Ramoska recoils in fear of the mesmerist. Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 16 - 2 = 15Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 16 - 2 = 30

Malen, resisting the urge to retch, reached out to touch the nosferatu again, this time using Pharasma's dominion over the dead to slow the creature down. His touch lands and Ramoska looks weakened. Miss Chance: 1d5 ⇒ 4

Zamanda keeps singing. She can read Varisian, so she can also see what the levers say, and she will read that before leaving. The word "Up" is written on the left end of the lever's path. "Down" is written at the right end of the lever's path.

Also before leaving, she asks, What kind of consequences? The boy is what we care about, as we made clear earlier. It shouldn't have been surprising to you that we were trying to position ourselves to protect him. Moved you to just outside the room, Zamanda. Based on your position relative to Ramoska, I don't think it's realistic for you to be able to hit him from outside of the room right now.

Bashiel, unwilling to give Ruan up to this creature despite the formidable powers it possesses, continues his assault, knocking it prone once more now that Pharasma's grip has begun to affect it.

He follows with a second swing at the vampire! His second swing is wildly inaccurate.

Ramoska recovers from his cowering, but finds himself lying on the ground. He sits up and leans against the wall (just for roleplay purposes, still considered prone). He looks back and forth amongst you and shakes his head.
Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 16 - 2 = 20Ramoska Will Save: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 16 - 2 = 30

Though she’s not in the room anymore, Ramoska addresses Zamanda’s question as more of his wounds heal before your eyes, “You do seem to have an inordinate amount of care for the boy. Before this mess, I was going to give you the boy and my research, but that’s no longer the case. If you surrender, you’ll have to make a choice: the boy or my research. What’s more important to you? The life of a single Varisian boy or the many lives you’ll be able to save through my research? You’ll have to decide.”

Not sure if the table counts as a hard corner/obstruction, but if Bashiel is capable of 5ft stepping to the square Malen vacated, he'll do that before the other actions on his turn. Got to try to keep that flank.

This is a monster--a creature of doom--and he feared ME! Even for a handful of seconds! I will not yield!

Last round of nauseated. Should be able to do more next round. Side question... if it comes down to it, how long can I hold my breath, and would that prevent the nausea effect? I picked up a bottle of air earlier in our adventure, and if I breathe from that, holding my breath in between, I might be able to stay in the room. Holding my breath would likely prevent my bardic performance though (even though as you said, it is supernatural), so not a great trade-off. Just examining my options.

@Kalem: Don't forget that you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks against the target you're grappling on subsequent rounds, but that you also don't get the flanking bonus until Bashiel repositions. Oh yeah, forgot you mentioned that. I just looked them up. It says

"This stylized bird mask consists of a pair of goggles attached to a ceramic beak that covers the nose and mouth. The goggles are not magic and can be replaced with other goggles or eye slot items. It grants the wearer a +4 resistance bonus on saving throws against disease. Once per day on command, the user can remove disease (as the spell) on a single creature touched."

Can't really tell if it would work or not, but we could try.

Bashiel, no Climb or Acrobatics check, though I would probably say moving in that way requires an extra 5 ft of movement or so, not that it matters in this particular case.

Zamanda, holding your breath does make some sense from a real world perspective, but not so much from a gameplay/rules one, I think. It’s a magical effect, so I think the intent is that you’re subject to it as long as you’re within its radius. I suppose if you have a constant source of fresh air, that might work, but to actively avoid breathing in the fog, I don’t think you’d be able to do much else but maybe move a little, so not particularly practical.

Welcome to the heavyweight division, Malen. : )

Kalem suddenly loses his grip on Ramoska as the man vanishes and is replaced by a swarm of bats. The flying mammals bite and scratch at the bloodrager as they expand to fill more of the room. Kalem also starts to bleed. Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Current Status:

Ramoska (-92 hp, -2 Atks and Will saves, staggered 1 round, Deja Vu’d, swarm form)
Kalem (-6 hp, 1 bleed)
Ilsa (3 mirror images)
Malen (nauseated 5 rounds)
Zamanda
Bashiel

Active Effects: Inspire Courage - +2 to saving throws against charm and fear effects and +2 on attack and weapon damage rolls
Angelic Bond - allies within 20 feet gain the benefits of protection from evil, except the deflection and resistance bonuses are +3.

The swarm is diminutive, so it's immune to weapon damage. Everyone can act for round 6!

Well, that's brutal. I was counting on him being able to transform into one animal, not a swarm. He can't hurt us very much like this (can't cast unless he has the natural spell feat), but he has free reign to heal up. I think the extent of our anti-swarm tech is Zamanda's handful of burning hands casts and a few alchemical items. Think you can bluff him into running away?

@Zek: Is Ruan's table attached to the floor? If not, could Bashiel push it across the room? And if yes, what are the legs of the table made of?

Yeah, I have 3 acid flasks is all, but if we each hit him with one each round, plus Zamanda doing burning hands, and we should keep him from healing. Depending on whether everyone has flasks, we could probably do at least 30-40 dmg a round to him, even in swarm form (but of course he would heal some). I suggest we keep going at him (while retreating out of the fumes and perhaps toward the elevator) and see how this plays out. Regardless, he doesn't seem willing to let us live now even if we wanted the deal.

Adrenaline and Bashiel's aura continue to be the only thing keeping Ilsa from succumbing to the fumes.

She backs toward the door and draws a flask of acid from her bandolier.

fort: 1d20 + 4 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 4 + 3 = 20 burst of adrenaline + resistance bonus from Bashiel to save the day!

5' step, draw acid flask from bandolier, throw it!

ranged touch acid flask: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
dmg (includes painful stare!: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) + 3 = 14 I just realized that ANY damage I do to him gets my painful stare damage, so my acid flasks to 3d6+3! I only have 2 more, though.
miss direction, if needed: 1d8 ⇒ 4
