Baer Mytr |

Round 1, Init 9
"Mavor, we should probably get one of these here alive," Baer grunts as she moves into the room. "They might help us find the Doctor."
She strikes at the red doctor, putting both hands on her staff.
1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 21 to hit; (magic,-PA)

Tural Ardas |

Keep in mind that everyone has Fortune! You may roll twice on a d20 roll of you choice!
After Mavor charges in Tural steps into the doorway to get a clear view of the room. He points at the red doctor and a bolt of lighting comes down from the ceiling. He continues his chanting, filling the room with his ominous voice.
Lighting dmg: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) = 13
If red is already down he'll go for yellow

Mavor Asku |

"Righto, although the first two in our way are just obstacles to be crushed."
Mavor charges the blue physician next to the one Baer's fighting.
Attack Greataxe, Charge, Scout's Charge, Sneak Attack 3d8, Power Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 211d12 + 7 + 6 + 1 + 3d8 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 6 + 1 + (6, 2, 6) = 33
Kept forgetting this, AC is 19 vs blue, 16 vs the others. I charged thus -2, but Offensive Defense kicks in that gives +3 AC until next turn

StephNyan |

Baer moves into the room and knocks one of the physicians out.
Mavor charges in and cuts down one of the other physicians.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Ref: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
The last physician's unaffected by Denario's spell, and dodges Tural's spell completely.
Round 1:
Quorthos
Denario
Tural
Majenko
Mavor
Allyph
Baer
Yellow Physician

Allyph Yssal |

Allyph drops her backpack, so she can move faster, and moves up to the last physician. She tries to stab the physician with her rapier.
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Baer Mytr |

"I surrender!"
Baer jumps over to interrogate the man.
"You surrender?! Well, you'll live too if you answer our questions!" Baer says, shooting angry specks of spittle as she speaks...
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Intimidation
...which tend to slobber on her own chin, looking somewhat ridiculous.
"Where is Devaulus? Is he behind that door? How many men are with him?"

Tural Ardas |

Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Tural still chanting steps up behind Baer, trying to help her intimidate the physicians.
"Tell her, now..."
I still have a magic vestment spell lying around, I think it best I use the spell before we go to the boss. Anyone want it? Or maybe a enlarge person spell?"

Mavor Asku |

With Enlarge person we should keep in mind that we might have to squeeze through the door at some point.
Mavor goes through the stuff of the other physicians while Baer and Tural are trying to get answers out of the last one.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

StephNyan |

Mavor finds the same kind of leather armors, masterwork clubs, healer's kits, and creepy masks on the physicians as you've previously seen on other physicians.
Quorthos stealthily opens the door to the south while Bear starts yelling in the physician's face. The physician point at the door Quorthos just opened. "Here's in there! Alone!"
Blood, bile, and other humors bubble away within oddly formed beakers and twisted tubes in the sizable laboratory beyond the door. Any wall space left unobscured by cabinets or over-laden bookshelves is covered by worn parchments depicting magnified aspects of human anatomy in grisly detail—many pierced with pins and flags like the war maps of a veteran campaigner. In the corner, a desk of elegantly carved white ash bears the image of a herd of antelope, but the stains of dark chemicals and gore disfigures the once-beautiful piece.
There's no person to be seen inside the room.

Quorthos |

Quorthos will stand to the side of the doorway, recast shield on himself, and then throw the door wide open. He'll wait a moment, and then sneak into the room, being alert for hidden foes.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 20 = 49
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Baer Mytr |

Baer either ties up the physician or holds him steady for Mavor's sap, whichever is easier.
Joining Quorthos at the door, she looks at the laboratory and ponders all the things she does not understand about alchemy, which is significant.
Instead, she casts Detect Magic and scans around, giving others a chance to act while she searches for magic.

Tural Ardas |

Tural moves towards the doorway and holds out a hand. Still fiercely chanting his song a stream of fire sets half the room ablaze.
Burning hands, red shape on map: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 3, 2) = 10

Quorthos |

Um, Tural... I'm also in the room somewhere, you don't know where, also invisible... are you sure that's what you're going to do? If so:
spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Assuming I win initiative...
Quorthos yells, "No!" and tries to interrupt Tural's spell. (This voids my last invisibility spell... so now I'm visible)
"Those books and papers may be our only hope of figuring out this disease and curing it!"

Tural Ardas |

Hearing Quorthos as he is casting the spell Tural breaks off halfway the casting. He peers around the room but doesn't see the source of the voice. He nods in agreement, his blood still fired up, and glances around the room.
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

StephNyan |

I think Quorthos was referring to trying to stop Tural as the reason invisibility would be voided. Though that can also be done be placing a hand on Tural's arm, or something alike, so I won't let that break invisibility.
Because Quorthos may actually be too late to stop Tural, I'm going to make it an opposed initiative check and see if Quorthos notices Tural's actions fast enough to stop him.
Initiative, Tural: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
While Baer scans around for magic, Tural casts burning hands into the newly revealed room. Quorthos is too late to stop Tural, but luckily he's not standing within the spell's cone.
Tural glances around the room and notices he's luckily not done any damage.
No damage was done, but the spell slot's spent.
Baer's scan of the room meanwhile doesn't turn up anything, save for the lingering evocation magic from Tural's spell. When Denario mentions the possibility of an invisibility potion being involved, Baer turns around and immediately notices a burst of enchantment magic coming from the northern doors, and the fading aura of an illusion spell.
Will, Mavor: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Directly following the burst of enchantment magic, Nicolas Cage Dr. Davaulus becomes visible next to the doors. He holds a rapier in one of his hands, and the index finger of his other hand points at Mavor. His face is a bit sour when he calmly states,"Bummer, nothing happened..."
Baer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Denario: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Majenko: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Tural: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Round 1:

Quorthos (Invisible)
Allyph
Mavor
Majenko
Baer
Denario
Dr. Davaulus

Allyph Yssal |

Allyph touches Mavor's shoulder. "This should help you."
She casts vanish on him, and he disappears from sight.

Majenko the Imp Slayer |

Majenko hops onto Baer's shoulder and readies to aid her on the first melee attack she's going to make.
Readied Aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
"Let's do this, Baer!"
@Baer: He'll just keep his aid readied if you decide to do something else now.

Mavor Asku |

Thanks GM/Allyph :) Alas, I won't be able to charge him due to the table.
Mavor moves towards the west-side of Devaulus and strikes him from his invisible state.
Attack Greataxe vs flat-footed, Power Attack, Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 - 2 = 271d12 + 7 + 6 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 6 + 1 + (1, 2, 5) = 24

Baer Mytr |

Round 1, Init 1
"Yeah! Let's get him!" Baer thinks back.
She strikes at the doctor, putting both hands on her staff.

Quorthos |

Are the doors behind him open or closed? I assumed they are open, but if not, put me beside him instead.
Quorthos, still invisible, casts his last shocking grasp spell and then moves back into the room, using dimensional slide to cut off Devaulus' escape. He taps him with the spell, then becomes visible.
touch, flatfootted, invisible: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14electrical damage, sneak: 5d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 6, 3) + (3) = 21

Tural Ardas |

@Denario We are level 6... I don't think daze will even distract a boss at our level. He is alone so I would assume, seeing how strong the maidens are, that he is at least level 8.
Tural remains where is he, his chanting voice carrying throughout the room prolonging fortune on everyone. He points at Davaulus murmurs a few words and...
DC 17 will save for shadow trap
If he makes it: his shadow spasms but nothing happens.
If he fails: his shadow suddenly turns rigid making him unable to move more than a few 5 feet from his current position.

StephNyan |

@Mavor: Figured you'd like it! ;)
@Quorthos: They're indeed still open!
Allyph touches Mavor's shoulder and casts vanish on him, causing the strong half-orc to disappear from sight.
Majenko hops onto Baer's shoulder and readies himself to assist her on her next attack.
Mavor moves up to Davaulus and hits him hard, after which he becomes visible again.
Denario casts daze, which does nothing.
Baer moves up to Davaulus and hits him with her staff, using the fortune Tural's hex provides her with.
Quorthos casts shocking grasp and uses dimensional slide to end up next to Davaulus. He discharges his spell on the doctor, causing the man to collapse as he himself becomes visible again. Just before Davaulus hits the floor, a wicked grin shows on his face.
@Tural: you can keep your spell.

Baer Mytr |

Baer looks down at the very dead Doctor then at her staff, then back at the body, then at everyone else.
"I thought...I thought he'd be...tougher. Or less dead. Or something," Baer grunts in disappointment as she begins to sort through the man's belongings.
"Are we sure this is the right guy? Doesn't make sense."
Baer begins to Spellcraft and ID the items, then will do a thorough search of the laboratory.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 Spellcraft Potion #1
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 Spellcraft Potion #2
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28 Spellcraft Rapier
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33 Spellcraft Shirt Mithral
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23 Spellcraft Amulet
Is there any other unclaimed magic in the room?

Denario Vasquez |

Denario smiles.
"Nice hit Quorthos, i'm sure he didn't expect that."
Heal, untrained: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
"...he's dead as can be too. This is a setback, unless we can cheaply get a talk to the dead spell.
Best we look for clues instead."
Denario searches the doctor for items of worth, and for clues.
After which he takes a bit to have a look around.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Quorthos |

"Bah, death certainly won't prevent us from learning what we need to know," mutters Quorthos. Hells, how was he so frail? He turns to the others "We'll need to get out of here before more Grey Maidens turn up. Grab everything readable, and the body, and lets get out of..." He stops as he sees the button from the machine.
Does it look like it fits the lift? That was missing a button or something, wasn't it?

StephNyan |

Baer successfully identifies the doctor's rapier, armor, and amulet for what they are. The potions are a mystery to her.
Denario's search turns up nothing new.
In case anyone else than Denario also wants to search the room Davaulus was supposed to be in:
Quorthos's eye falls upon the button Davaulus carried with him. It piques his interest.
@Quorthos: There was a DC 20 Perception check you could make to learn that, but no one made the check. You could still go over to the lift though, because you didn't inspect it and may still want to?
Here's a repost of the description of the room you're currently in, as you may want to do something about the bold part before you walk off:
Rows of white-sheeted beds line the walls of the next room. Each is occupied, every bed bearing a patient restrained by leather straps that bind the figure to the sturdy metal frame. At the room’s center stretch simple wooden worktables, each covered in fluid-filled beakers, intricate glass tubes, small burners, and other alchemical instruments. Two queen's physicians are sitting at the table, while a third is injecting something into one of the patients' arm.

Allyph Yssal |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Allyph also tries to identify the potions, but is unable to.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
She walks into the backroom and returns with a bunch of notes from the desk. "These notes describe how some Varisians are immune to bloodveil."
Allyph nods at the restrained people on the beds. "Them?"

Baer Mytr |

After she finishes identifying the gear, Baer helps search the area.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 Perception
"Immunity to blood veil, huh? Are they trying to make them sick or develop some sort of transmutable immunity? What do the notes suggest? Tural? Can you make sense of all this?" Baer asks uncertainly. "Tural, were they looking for a cure? Are we in the wrong?!"
Baer goes to get the physician who surrendered to ask questions after Tural (or anyone) offers some insight.

Tural Ardas |

Tural stands still in the room, just wanting to check the doctor. The notes and the frail man, everything just fell into place.
"I think they were looking for a cure. Not just for any reason, I think he was sick himself. Maybe even the queen herself is sick..."
He trails off, not sure what else might be behind all this. He slowly bends down to Davaulus and starts looking for the signs.
Healing: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
After taking a good look at the corpse he goes through the notes, trying to piece them together.
"It seems some of them are immune to the blood veil... But the notes don't reveal much more."
He looks at the group, unsure what to do now.
"How to we proceed? We just killed the only one who might have been able to cure the disease. I have a knack for healing but alchemy and such is beyond me."

Mavor Asku |

Mavor listens intently as Tural, Baer and allyph discuss Devaulus's fate, then the big half-orc looks up as Tural mentions alchemy.
"Maybe they aimed to make more antidotes or serum for the next time. I can hardly imagine they come here unprepared. Regardless about that, I know of a fellow who is specialised in alchemy here in Old Korvosa, maybe with the help of these patients who are immune he could get some sort of antidote himself. The little man has helped us before."
Taking a few liberties here GM, if it's not possible than I'm okay with that.

StephNyan |

Tural examines Davaulus and is absolutely certain the man didn't suffer from any kind of disease.
A thorough examination of the notes reveals that Davaulus and the physicians wondered why the Varisians were immune, and were trying to create a version of bloodveil they wouldn't be immune to. However, if additional research were to be conducted, the notes could prove useful in the creation of a cure.
@Mavor: That's fine!

Allyph Yssal |

Allyph cuts the bonds that tie the patients to their beds, but discovers the fifteen men and women are too weak to move on their own.
Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
"I... think they're drugged...?"
Her suspicion's somewhat confirmed when one of the patients mumbles something along the lines of, "Heeey maaan... huhuh... groovyyy..."

Tural Ardas |

Tural's eyebrows rise.
"Well... I think I was completely wrong on my guess... They were trying to make an even more resistant disease, not cure it. Though I do believe the notes may lead to a cure if we had the time."
He says after a more thorough examination of the notes and Davaulus.

Quorthos |

Urgh, I thought it was auto with a take ten for me, so I read it, but it actually isn't... mea culpa!
Perception on lift: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 - so I didn't notice it at the time.
Quorthos frowns, frustrated at having not noticed Devaulus was so frail. "Do the notes say where they are working on this new version of the disease? It sure isn't here. At any rate, we should take everything he had, all the notes, and the body, and get out of here. This will take some research by folks smarter than us."
He pauses. "What about them?"
To clarify - the folks on this floor are drugged and restrained, and immune to the disease, while the folks downstairs are not restrained, and have the disease?

Baer Mytr |

Baer grunts and as soon as it is confirmed that the Doctors were working to infect the immune, she walks over to stave Davaulus's head in.
"You rat bastard! You're killing people! TELL ME WHY!?!" Baer asks, beating the doctor's head in a few more times. When Baer calms down, she wipes away the blood from his staff and tries to collect herself.
"So...should we take all that we learn to just one person, or take some of the knowledge to others to spread the word? I'm sure the Abadarans will require the most proof...and, heck, even the Asmodeans should probably know, right?"
"I want the entire city to know about this. The people need to know to defend themselves from the physicians! They should be able to defend themselves from those that saying that they can help!" Baer, getting angry again, beats in Davaulus's head more with her just cleaned staff.

Mavor Asku |

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Mavor scans the room once more and then his gaze falls upon the tied-up Physician.
"Guess that Physician over there might know more. He had a certain look on his face when we mentioned those notes. Baer? You can take your anger out on him unless he talks. Seems like a good deal to me."
Mavor says while grinning.
[b]"I also think my contact might be able to help those drugged guys get clean. Might even be that our 'underground' contacts know him personally. They could help us move these poor souls to his place."[/c]

Quorthos |

Taking 10 on Perception for 19.
"And what are you so happy about, Mister In-a-bad-place?" Quorthos asks, striding up to the tied-up doctor. He smacks him across the face, once, twice, a third time. "What else is there here, besides these notes? And why are you upset that your boss' body is taking a beating? Is he still alive? Is that even him? Talk, or I will roast you slowly." Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
If he doesn't talk, we should take him, the body, and everything, and get out to the sewers pretty quick. I'm worried about guards showing up.

Baer Mytr |

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 Perception
"..or I will roast you slowly."
Baer, still enraged, moves over to engage Quorthos.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Intimidate
"What are you talking about, Boy!? Give him to me and I'll make him talk! I'll slowly eat off his fingers, I'll..I'll make him wish he was Davaulus so he was dead! Who are you to stand between me and him?!" Baer rages. "If he doesn't start answering questions, GIVE HIM TO ME!!"
