F Human Wizard (Conjuror) 5

Frustrated by her inability to hit the creatures, Zarabeta conjures more magical acid.

acid dart, ranged touch attack, -4 for firing into melee 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

acid damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Her frustration does nothing to improve her aim.

"We may have to retreat, if we cannot harm these creatures..."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Fighter 5 (Favoured Class)

As Fiosa is away I'll make her action

Channel Energy for Damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9 DC 17 for 1/2, ignores channel resistance

Marius evades the shadows grasp and lashes out with both blades again

you really thought you hit me on a 5???

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 halved for 3

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 halved for 5

No, didn't think I hit you -- just setting up a stock line that I can copy and paste. And half of 8 is 4. :-p

Zarabeta again flings an acid serpent wide of her target.

Fiosa prepares to summon her goddess' energy again while Marius' swords carve the second shadow into pieces. Even as he watches the shreds of black evaporate, he notices two more shadows sliding out of the wall of the landing across from the main doorway.

You guys might need that channel later.

Still in rounds. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Waifrin's up. You all may reroll intiative if you choose.

Marius readies himself for another round of combat against the strength sapping undead.

When they come within swords reach he strikes at one of them.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 halved for 4

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 halved for 6

Waifrin takes a respite.

Marius' swords slice into another shadow, but it and its companion keep coming.

Fort save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23Marius resists as much of the strength draining cold as he can but it still affects him..

I truly hate Shadows

Now down to Str 13

I don't blame you for hating them. They suck to fight and Fiosa's channel isn't strong enough to down them in one. If you step into the big square stairwell, then the shadows wouldn't have to get past you to get to the others. You would suffer fewer attacks. Right now you are the first target at a choke point. Maybe they'll get tired of hitting you and slide into the walls to get to the others.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Fighter 5 (Favoured Class)

But the whole point is that I'm the one best able to take the damage at the moment.

Fiosa channels for the 9 points of damage mentioned above.DC 17 for 1/2, ignores channel resistance

Iomedae's power washes out from Fiosa, ripping one of the shadows to shreds and making the second one cower a bit.

Zara's up to close the round. Then Marius and Waifrin open round 4.

Did Zarabeta's last blast either hit, or, if it hit, do damage?

Zarabeta moves back towards the way they entered this surreal space, as that's the only exit she's aware of, opening the door if she can reach it in a single move.

Sorry, Set. After double checking AC, yes, the last one does hit. And does some damage, but not much. About half of what you'd expect.

How you run and where will make a huge difference.

map

Marius will be starting in the square with the red arrow. Shadows are popping out of the wall at the blue arrow.

The shortest way out is through the door to B2. You can retrace your steps in a long circle or cut trough B3. At B5a and b you can try jumping off the stairway to the passages 30' lower in the western walls.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

I suggest falling back to B5a or b

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Fighter 5 (Favoured Class)

We take the door..going to B5 gives the shadows more time to catch us.

Pick one or split the party.

The Exchange

F Human Wizard (Conjuror) 5

Zarabeta is still heading for the door, and opens it if she has the movement / action left over, so that the others can attempt to move through it without slowing down.

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Wilder 5th | AC13 | HP39 | Str 10 | Dex 15 | Con 13 | PP37/37

Looks like we are going for the door.

Marius breaks for the door, followed by the rest of you. He opens it and turns to face the shadows while the rest of you pile through. As the shadows close, he comes through and slams it behind him.

After a few moments it's apparent no dark ghostly pursuit comes after you.

Back in the B2 hall. What next?

Liberty's Edge

"Marius, are you all right?" Waifrin asks, concerned.

Liberty's Edge

Marius sags against the door breathing heavily..."Somehow I don't think we will be going that way again" he says his hands shaking as he sheathes his swords.

Fiosa approaches him studies him carefully for a moment then casts Lesser Restoration on him

STR now 14

Marius feels some warmth flow through him but still feels weakened.

Talk as you will and decide. A search of the B2 halls reveals no other way onward.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"Well, I vote we make a rush for the stairs. The shadows didn't bother us before that way. We have rope, with one of us tied to it we might be able to make the leap to the edge of the passageway, and there we can use a piton to secure the line and get back and forth."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Fighter 5 (Favoured Class)

Marius looks at his cousin as if she were mad.."What part of we almost died in there did you not understand?" he asks sharply.

"Those..things are probably lurking behind the door waiting for us to be as foolish again as we have just been"

"If we're willing to wait a while, I can ask Iomedae for blessings that will restore Marius's strength...that is, if the gods can reach us in this place. I wonder where those shadows were coming from, anyways?" Fiosa ponders.

I love it when you guys talk. Let me know when you reach a consensus on your next move.

Zarabeta readies an action to throw conjurered acid at the first shadow she sees, hoping to strike it before it's within melee range of someone, and her shot becomes that much more difficult.

Waifrin opens the doors. The shadows are spinning slowly in the center of the room. Even with the doors hanging open, the shadows continue spinning.

Waifrin's blast rips through one of the shadows. In response they surge toward the door but are halted abruptly at the portal.

Let's see what Set and Fiosa do in the surprise round before we talk about Waifrin's round 1. Per Set's previous post

Zarabeta slings an acid snake at the shadows. It dissolves into black mist.

ranged touch attack, 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
