Zarabeta steps back, to open up a space between herself and the others, and flings a flask of alchemical fire into the swarm of spiders, making sure to target a space not currently occupied by one of her allies.

5 ft. step and throw
ranged touch attack to hit the swarm, perhaps unnecessary... She will be within splash range so she'll take 1 pt. of fire damage as well. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
1d6 fire damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

Wow, hope she didn't have to roll to hit that square... She might have just smashed the bottle on her forehead!

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Fiosa also tries to retreat from the room.

Fiosa follows Marius back into the hallway. The spiders fall away as hse crosses the threshold.

Zarabeta steps further into the chamber and flings the alchemist's fire at the floor. It bursts and chars a patch of spiders.

Saved by the self-deprecating forehead joke! I'm going to rule that the swarm is dense enough and big enough that an attack roll isn't really needed.

Waifrin is up.

Waifrin retreats also! As soon as she is out of the swarm she draws turns and unleashes a hail of crystal shards into them.

Fire alchemical and crystal shards decimate the swarm. But as the remaining small clumps of spiders lose their cohesion and diffuse away, two giant spiders fall from the webbing above to menace Zara.

Marius' shortswords penetrate deeply through the spider's carapce. As he withdraws them it collapses. Its strength is gone, but it still twitches and jerks at his feet.

Fiosa buried a bolt in its head and the twitching stops.

With a flash of intense, but harmless heat, the webbing in the ceiling, the remains of the swarm, and the first spider disappear.

The last spider shrinks and shrivels itself into a grape-sized red garnet.

Marius dropped it to 0.

Liberty's Edge

"Indeed" Marius replies as he scoops the garnet up, then raises his voice.."Well we defeated our fears..what next?"

"Oh very good! But you defeated only one fear. You may have transferred your fear to a different focus. To be cured and sane, you must defeat all your fears! Quickly now. Choose another."

"Fear of being rich and bored, a thousand leagues away from the nearest Chelish port?" Zarabeta offers peevishly to the unseen voice. "Fear of being massaged with scented oils by strong-fingered cherubs while snacking on candied meats and warm spiced mead?"

Her eyes grow distant for a moment as she forgets the current situation and envisions that particular scene.

"Fear of breathing freely and not worrying about devils and hellknights kicking the door in to drag you off in chains?" Waifrin adds. "Come on, I'm impatient to find what we came for and get out of here."

There's a muffled, but still shrill, gurgling sound before the Voice replies, "You've only three fears to go. You're a quarter of the way there. Don't give up now. You'll regret it in the end."

Sooo?

Marius takes a deep breath.. "Well then, we'd best get on to confronting the next..challenge"

He runs over the list in his mind and mutters something that might just be "Snakes..why did it have to be snakes"

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Wilder 5th | AC13 | HP39 | Str 10 | Dex 15 | Con 13 | PP37/37

"Because it did," Waifrin shrugs. "Let's not waste time, or we'll miss dessert!"

"I hope it's just one big snake, not a whole swarm of little snakes," Fiosa tries to put on a brave smile.

The shrill voice pipes up. "Excellent! Squarely face slithering doom and know that you can be strong."

Zarabeta leads the way to "Ophidiaphobia". She pauses at the entry to make sure everyone is ready. The room is a mirror image of the spider chamber, but instead of webs masking the ceiling, thousands of thumb-sized holes dot the walls and even more pegs poke out from them.

Still time to turn back.

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Wilder 5th | AC13 | HP39 | Str 10 | Dex 15 | Con 13 | PP37/37

"You know what you said about little snakes? Yes, it's that," Waifrin sighs. "All right. Let's do this. I've heard they don't bite if you don't annoy them," she jokes weakly. She takes a careful step into the room, and then stops. Readying herself.

keeping very still. If the snakes swarm and attack, five-foot step back and hit them with a hail of crystals again.

Let's have initative. I'll give Waif +4 for being more than ready and having done this once with the spiders.

Waifrin steps into the room. A few seconds pass and a dozen snakes slide out of the holes in the wall and slide across the floor and along the wall pegs toward her.

"Blood...sounds like fun..." Fiosa grimaces.

The blood chamber looks similar to the spiders and snakes, a round high-ceilinged chamber with two doorways. Dozens of wicker birdcages hang from the ceiling on thick ropes. Based on its location the second doorway probably leads to the hallway from one of the exits from the Observation room.

Waifrin repeats her performance from the snake room, stepping in and blasting most of the stirges that swoop from the wicker cages. Fiosa takes one down with her crossbow. Zara readies an acid snake but doesn't nee it as Marius spits the last two on his swords.

The stirges shrink away to nothing except for the last which becomes a grape-sized purple amethyst.

Just saving time. Last room fire.

"WOnderful! You're almost done. Only fire left to go!"

The Exchange

F Human Wizard (Conjuror) 5

"Ooh, stirges, that's a surprise. I was expecting to be nearly drowned in sealed room filling with blood, or attacked by an ooze creature made of blood or something." Zarabeta says conversationally, not really getting into the spirit of 'exploring one's fears,' although her 'fear of being six hours late for dessert and arousing suspicion' is on the rise.

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Wilder 5th | AC13 | HP39 | Str 10 | Dex 15 | Con 13 | PP37/37

"This could certainly be interesting," Waifrin agrees. "I'm not fireproof and I've no way to make myself so...or maybe..."

Waifrin assumes a look of concentration, and her figures shifts slightly, seeming slightly stronger, and her skin takes on a bronze cast.

Zarabeta draws out the components to summon allies from across the planes and begins casting a spell as they enter the room, hoping that a few small water elementals might be able to help quench whatever conflagration awaits.
