Hey Ashes, I wanted to check with you is this your first Pathfinder Society Game?

It kind of looks like it might be from your profile. If so, I should have caught this sooner so I could help you get ready for the game.
Unfortunately, right now you have to have a special boon to make a tiefling in the campaign.

That said there are some other really fun choices for rogues out there to consider.

I'm looking forward to giving you a great first taste of Pathfinder Society play, and will give you whatever help you need to get up and running.

The Exchange

Male Tiefling Investigator 1

It is my first Pathfinder Society scenario. I was under the impression that I could select two traits. I assume your referring to scaled skin?

No, they're referring to your race.

Tieflings are not legal for play without a boon, which you would need to acquire through play with a legal PFS character.

Races currently available for play are all core (Human, Dwarf, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Gnome, Halfling, Elf) and Kitsune, Nagaji, Tengu and Wayang.

Edit: This document (Link) here provides all the rules for play in the current season.

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

No the actual tiefling race is not legal for play for new characters right now. It was previously allowed so you'll see them around, but that's because they were already in the campaign before the change or the person has a special 'boon' that let's them make one.

The currently available races are:
(Core)
Dwarf
Elf
Gnome
Half-elf
Half-orc
Halfling
Human
(Advanced Race Guide)
Kitsune
Nagaji
Tengu
Wayang

So unfortunately you'll need to switch to a different race, again apologies for not realizing that earlier.

@Xynen -- great minds -- thanks for also linking the document.

The Exchange

Male Tiefling Investigator 1

Does that mean I have to register again?

The Exchange

So how do I get rid of Ashes and replace it with another character. I have a level 1 Tengu Rogue. I followed the rules for Pathfinder Society. At least I thought I did. Please let me know when I screw up.

Dark Archive

You can rebuild any level 1 character. You can keep Ashes in this game and just change him to a Tengu, you could even change his name if you want until you hit a post count of 10.

Otherwise if you want to use a different character you just need to provide the GM with the profile and the new PFS #.

Grand Lodge

Male Tengu Rogue 1 HP: 8/8; AC: 17; T: 14; FF: 13; Init: +4; Perception +7; Fort: 1; Ref: 6; Will: 1; CMB: 1; CMD: 15

Character Name: Eldak Blackbeak
1st level Rogue
PFS# 195074-1
Grand Lodge
Day Job unknown
Unique: sneak attack 1D6; Trapfinding; Low light vision; Swordtrained; natural weapon 1D3.

Please disregard Ashes. He's dead. Ha!

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

Thank you Ashes Eldak! Sorry for the inconvenience.

@Eldak - it's normally customary in PbP to post your character details on your profile tab for the character. Click on Hangust and Butharn Longaxe above to see a couple examples of how this can be done.

This is super helpful as in PbP sometimes the GM will just look-up something on a character sheet(profile), where as in face to face games he/she would just ask the player. This just helps speed things along, since the GM can look it up rather than wait for the player to respond to a post.

Do you have any questions? Like are you good with how to roll dice? Just let me know what questions you have.

Grand Lodge

Male Tengu Rogue 1 HP: 8/8; AC: 17; T: 14; FF: 13; Init: +4; Perception +7; Fort: 1; Ref: 6; Will: 1; CMB: 1; CMD: 15

Yes, I am wanting to do this but not sure how. Yes, how does the dice roles work? I have a ton of questions. Thank you for your patience.

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

@Eldak -- no problem.

First dice rolling and format. Take a look at the bottom of the box where you type a post. See where it says How to format your text, then a radio button Show. If you click that it will show you how to do many things like out of character ooc and dice command.

For rolling, you use the brackets [], so [bracket dice= name of roll bracket], then the type of dice(s) like 1d20, plus or minus any adjustments, then [bracket /dice bracket].

So like [dice=Perception bracket 1d20 + 4 [/dice bracket

Replace the word bracket with a bracket.

Feel free to try some rolls in discussion here to get the hang of it.

Then on your profile, Click Edit My Profile. There is a big block open that says About <character name> where you can type all your various feats/abilities/skills/gear, etc. in that box. You can use Race, Class/Level, and Gender blocks to display things in your header of your in game posts.

Let me know if that makes sense, feel free to keep the questions coming.

Info from the Online Venture Captain:

The Special will officially start on Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at Noon EST US [UTC-5].

As you guys probably know at this point, the PFS Specials are meant to be an "Under Siege" type event that is designed to be high-pressure and fast-paced.

Now from the GM:

This event is different than most of the pbp games, as all the tables (virtual in this case) are working together to achieve joint goals. At an IRL special, the event moves along at set time frames, measured in minutes. For Pbp this is measured in days (not minutes). When the adventure moves on to the next part, everyone moves forward (all the tables).

So we might be in the middle of something and the next part starts, I will immediately wrap that up and move on to the next part.

Again from the VC:

It will be very important that GMs keep up the table pace and that everyone stays active, pretty much, every day for the duration of the Special.

I will do my best to keep this going quickly. The more we all post the farther we will get and the more fun it will be. If we are slow about posting, the game will likely move on with us in states of partial completion each time.

So please post often. I will be more inclined but people on delay or skip players if they aren't posting timely.

So please post often.

I will try to start as close to noon tomorrow as I can.

Looking forward to a great time! Thanks for playing.

Dark Archive

Sounds like fun! I know we're still potentially looking for another player, have you posted in The Flaxseed Lodge it's checked by a lot of players and could probably snag us another party member before game start.

Lets see how the profile looks.

Grand Lodge

Male Tengu Rogue 1 HP: 8/8; AC: 17; T: 14; FF: 13; Init: +4; Perception +7; Fort: 1; Ref: 6; Will: 1; CMB: 1; CMD: 15

Crud. Posted question as ash. Sorry.

Grand Lodge

Male Tengu Rogue 1 HP: 8/8; AC: 17; T: 14; FF: 13; Init: +4; Perception +7; Fort: 1; Ref: 6; Will: 1; CMB: 1; CMD: 15

How does the turn work? Do you announce your action and roll in the same turn? Or, do you announce action. Wait for the okay to roll. And then roll in a third post?

What is meant by bracket dice? Trying to read the formula below. Not making much sense.

Dark Archive

Just assume you can roll and do so, it will slow the game down too much if you wait for approval of every action. The GM can decide to negate something after you roll it if they need to.

My suggestion: Copy and paste the whole section under the "how to format your text" into a post, it will show you how it works.

perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

That worked! It rolls for you. Cool.

attack role: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Hopefully I role better than that in the game.

attack role: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Geez. This don't look good.

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

@Eldak Looking good on the rolling, I'm sure it will turn around for you.

As Xynen said please post your whole action including rolls. Also, if your unsure about what you want to do based on what others do or whatever, feel free to post contingencies. Like if this happens I do this, if instead this happens I do this. You can use the spoiler function to do this well.

Also, from time to time I may do some rolling for you to save time. For example, I'll always roll initiative for everyone in the combat. I may roll a perception check, or a save a certain time when it makes sense.

Good start on your profile, I would continue to build that up with things like Feats/Traits and Skills

@Xynen...good idea I'll post there.

Got another email from the Online VC.

Looks like we can go ahead and get started. There will be an Overall Thread for the special I'll provide info for that folks can also check. There will be a welcome message later today.

I'll let you all know when I see it updated.

I'll work on getting the first in game post ready and post ASAP.

I need a rule clarification. Do I get the "favored class bonus" for playing a tengu rogue in pathfinder organized play? Thanks!

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

Indeed you do! Usually +1 hp or + 1 Skill point, but there are other things that may be based on tengu you can choose as well.

Which is: Rogue: Choose a weapon from those listed under the tengu's swordtrained ability. Add a +1/2 bonus on critical hit confirmation rolls with that weapon (maximum bonus +4). This bonus does not stack with Critical Focus.

So basically I can get a +1 every two levels to add to my critical hit confirmation role. Yes, that sounds good. Thanks for the quick response.

I also took the Trapper Profession. I guess I could see him being paid to rid a merchant of a mouse problem or getting rid of a cat. All inner city type stuff.

i have a tengue myself that i quit playin when they changed the ruleing on pumble style. he is a natural attacking monk but havent decided if i want to convert him to the new unchained or not

Silver Crusade

@D'tang -- Yeah so in the pathfinder society if you are trained in a profession skill then in between adventures you can do a 'day job'.

So go ahead and give me a 'Day Job' check d20 + profession. At the end of the adventure you will get extra gold depending on your roll.

@Daveak -- yeah I have a Monk of Many Styles build I'm trying to decide what to do with since they nerfed him.

D'tang I'm curious on the origin of your name. It reminds me of a word in the old tongue from TWoT

Silver Crusade

@D'tang password sent

HA! D'tang came from a website on elven languages that a friend looked up while creating characters for our first Pathfinder session. I don't know which website it is. My character is a human mage. He was left at the doorstep as a newborn at a evil mages guild. They basically abused him his whole life and named him New Edan D'Tang which is elven for sub-human scum. So basically D'tang means Scum in Elven.
