Lore gets into position weapon at the ready. Nachts glaive cuts through the coral like butter. Ariana's scores a solid hit, but the silver weapon has some difficulty cutting through the coral. Thunderhoof begins his rhythmic chant, bolstering himself and the others. The group continues it's assault as Aelwynd's rapier deals even more damage. Rowanna tries another hex, the creature seems to be suffering from misfortune.
The golem floats away and brings down his claw on Aelwynd, who tries to parry, but can't get his rapier in the way of the claw in time. The claw slashes across him and red blood fills the water. The golem brings his other claw down as well, but this time it misses, as Aelwynd side steps it.

It ate more than one of my posts in other games, as well as one in this just a moment ago. Fingers crossed for tonight. ;)
If not for Lore's heroic feast this morning, and the misfortune Rowanna placed on the golem, I would surely have been hurt far greater by that massive claw! Aelwynd thinks to himself.
"Thank you again ladies!" He calls out as he dodges to the side of the second claw.
He presses the attack, not wanting to let his team down.

@Ariana - Just checking, does your crit range start at 15?
Nachts and Arianna, strengthened by Thunderhoof, land more powerful blows putting an end to the golem that had kept the sanguhins at bay.

A quick search of the room finds that a suit of armor made of coral and pieces of nautilus shell rests on the ground. It detects of magic. A valuable pearl is embedded in the armor, it also radiates a magical aura.
Nautilus Coral Armor (CL 9th, aura moderate transmutation)
It is +1 full plate made of coral and pieces of nautilus shell that does not give any armor check penalty on Swim checks and allows the wearer to hold her breath underwater for a number of rounds equal to four times her Constitution score, rather than twice her Constitution score.

Aelwynd takes care once more before entering the next room. Entering this large circular space has a vaulted ceiling. In the center of the room, a pillar of pearly shell vaguely resembling a sailfish rises twenty feet from the floor. A figure with swirling white and orange skin sits perched atop the pillar. She has enormous wings sprouting from her back, shaped liked the fins of a manta ray, and carries a heavy morningstar at her side.
The winged creature stands and spreads her wings wide. Hail, mortals, and well met, she says in a flowing voice, I am named Aquel, shieldwarden of Elysium. Long have I waited in these halls, seeking a worthy charge to assume my burden. Tell me, who are you and what do you know of this holy place?

He pauses so his fellows can each elaborate or answer for themselves if they wish before he adds anything more.

"I am Nachts... and I serve the... true aspect of... my Lord,... Zon-Kuthon. May the whimpers... of his victims forever remind you... of the joys of existence. Amongst them..., I am the one who will... perform the repugnant deed,... the hand behind the will."
He shifts back, palms presented upward. "Today, I am a Pathfinder. A wet Pathfinder... whose command was to find an artifact of... greater power within these halls. Why? I know not... exactly why yet. Perhaps... it has to do with... freeing one of the... elemental lords. The good ones" he adds before popping a potion sponge in his mouth.

"This acts as magical full plate that does not weight you down when you swim in it. I believe you can hold your breath longer when you wear it as well."
In the presence of Aquel, she merely curtsies respectfully, silent in the knowledge that public speaking isn't her strong suit.

I hope we managed to take it down without the crit.
@Ariana - Oh Yeah! Also, you could have taken time to switch the armor, no prob.
Aquel acknowledges your courtesies before replying, You have proved some knowledge of this place, but can you even speak the name of this lord you seek to free, and what do you really know of this place and what is sacredly guard here. Or are you mere tomb robbers, seeking treasure and glory?
Aelwynd Swiftblade

”Far from merely seeking treasures, we seek to help free Lysianassa from The Gasping Pearl, where Kelizandri, the evil elemental lord of water, imprisoned Her.” Aelwynd interjects.
With a respectful tone and manner, he begins to recant the knowledge they gleaned from the repair and study of the coral in the first room. ”From what we have found and studied so far, we know that Lysianassa used her last gasp to breathe into a magical decanter now called The Breath of Lysianassa. This imbued the artifact with the power to control the ocean tides. Lysianassa gave this artifact to a giant nautilus named Riam, who fled with it. Nine brine dragon wyrms eventually caught and killed Riam, but his shell, the very shell we are in right now, was thought lost inside the Lambent Bloom. Later, pilgrims of Lysianassa built a temple here and eventually used it to inter their dead.”
He pauses, sweeping his arm back to where they came from, ”More recently, Baron Zemdar and his vile followers sought to corrupt the temple. We vanquished Zemdar, and as we have moved deeper inside the shell we have done our best to repair the damage that he has done. I...we, hope to find The Breath with the thought that it can be used to free Lysianassa from her imprisonment. And, that is what we know, what he believe, and what we hope regarding this place.”
Lorelendral Teklet

"Well said, Aelwynd. You've a better memory for names than I do, so I'm glad you spoke up." She turns to Aquel, "What my large friend here says is the truth... we aren't thieves... or vandals. We come with only the most pure of motives." she doesn't add the obvious 'this time' to the end, because, though she knows the reputation of the Society at times is sadly well-earned in some cases, it's not the case this time.

Aquel nods positively, Most impressive. I was conjured here by Cintra Eelmaster, the last priest of this temple. Before he met his end, he entrusted me with the temple’s most precious treasures until a new guardian of pure intent could be found. I have tarried here many years, hoping to find a suitable replacement.
Since I was summoned, many warlords and savages have conquered the temple, each more bloodthirsty than the last. Recently, a group of peaceful murajau took possession of the shell, and for a brief time I had hope. Alas, before the murajau could find their way to me in the inner temple, Baron Zemdar discovered the shell and massacred them all. This final act of slaughter became a stain of the soul of the shell. Now fell energy imbues several of the rooms nearby, where the dead once rested peacefully. The bloodlust of the sahuagin awakened dark energy inside two rooms nearby. I am bound to this room and cannot leave it until I find a suitable replacement, but it is in your power to cleanse the evil from this temple. If your hearts are pure, venture into the rooms and lay the spirits to rest.
Nachts Lemarchand
|
"Thus we shall... then... purify" states an eager Nachts, who steps into the room in the direction of one of the last few unopened apertures within the shell.

Aelwynd just smiles as Nachts eagerly takes the lead. "By all means my friend, lead on!" He then swims up next to the other half-elf, from where he takes care with the door as usual.

"We will cleanse the temple for you. I hope you find a new guardian soon." Ariana follows the others as they head into the next room.

"A noble goal if ever there was!" Thunderhoof booms happily. "With Ariana's sharp blade and Aelwynd's sharp wit, no fell energy or restless dead will keep us from our quest. Lead the way Nachts!"
How much time has passed since we started exploring the shell?
Chaosorbit

@Thunderhoof -- around 35 minutes
Nachts heads into the first of the rooms. As he goes to open the door Aquel speaks up, [b]The first room contains a dragon tooth embedded in the wall, left behind by the brine dragon that slew Riam. For many years, the holy coral here suppressed the tooth’s evil, but now it festers and gnaws. Tendrils of pain and anguish haunt the room. You must extract the tooth to end the festering.
Entering this long room has coral burial niches built into its walls. Near the back of the room, black growths mar the vibrant purple coral, surrounding an enormous white fang embedded in the wall of the shell.
Aelwynd Swiftblade
|
"Extracting a tooth from a wall. A massive dragon tooth at that. Definitely not something I ever expected to be putting in a field report. I love this job!" Aelwynd says with all sincerity.
Any skill or knowledge checks give us an edge here? Like how best to remove the tooth? Or is it simply walk up, grab and pull, trying not to get killed by whatever those "tendrils of pain and anguish" are?
Nachts Lemarchand
|
"Oooooo... A tooth. Even in death did... the creature extract... a toll. I know one way to... remove... a tooth. Perhaps it... should be used... last. For some reason, most people... do not appreciate the... blessings... of pain."
Nachts Lemarchand

Nachts looks towards his Shoanti companion. "That was the way I thought of" he cackles.

Before moving to the next chamber, Rowanna renews her Slipstream by using her other potion sponge.

Indeed, a haunt.

"I'm afraid that won't help versus a haunt! Lore and Row are our best chance versus it, but even that is only temporary. We need Thunderhoof's and Nachts' strength, and maybe even adding yours too Ariana, to free that tooth from the wall and hopefully end the haunt for good."
