So, you said that a disintegration spell is needed to break the runes. And these runes in the back we can't just walk through, per what armored guy said. So, we have to break the runes. And we need disintegration to do that. But wait! Sorcerer guy has a wand of disintegration. So we get his wand (preferably peacefully), march on back to the second manor thingy and find the issue. I thought everyone would have figured that out.

Now, the Kobolds aren't hurting anything, and they're clearly sentient, so as long as they don't break any laws, killing more of them unnecessarily would be murder. And since I'm a LN character, I'd prefer not to do that.

Given my health status (or lack thereof), peaceful resolutions work well for me.

He motions to follow those that may, and walks from the northwest side of the manor to the northeast side, inspecting the unexplored areas. He explores the westmost and then northmost area. If he finds anything new at all, he stops.

Sorry, that should be eastmost and then northmost. He's moving from the northwest unexplored area to the northeast.

I've gone ahead and explored the whole house for you. You find sleeping quarters and a *lot* of workshops where the kobolds are fitting blue crystals into wands. Analyzing them, it looks like they are building a pretty diverse collection of wands. They're not finished, but the raw materials would be worth a fair amount of money to people that cared about that sort of thing.

I walk with the Kobold I untied back to the rest of the group.

"Can we please stop with all of the fighting? We have no quarrel with you, we merely need to get to the main house." I say to the Kobold guards (In Draconic). "Is there someone I can negotiate with?"

"Let's find out." Marcus picks up the materials, trying to identify the various unfinished components and patterns of the wands to determine their magical properties; both potential and raw.

Marcus, you find incomplete wands for about 30 wands, mostly 1st through 3rd sorcerer spells. They are mostly evocation, transmutation, and abjuration.

The kobold you free slowly walks in front of you with his hands raised and calls out to the kobold archers, "Don't shoot, guys! The humans have come to apologize!"

GrkGrk, the leader of the kobolds here, pokes his head around a wall and calls out, "Really? Ok, let's hear it. We have some bodies to bury."

"I'd like to remind everyone that we were attacked first. All of the killing done was, from our perspective, self defense. We mean you no harm so long as no harm is posed to us. We'd like to apologize for the unnecessary deaths and will not cause any others today." I then tell them how we're being sent to get to the main house and how we need a disintegration spell to do so.

"Unfortunately," Marcus responds, "there's nothing here that's complete. However, it would seem our luck's balanced out with their offer." He sets down what objects he had been inspecting to their respective original locations.

Edmond moves back to Havelock and hears the updated situation. He responds to Hugh, "I believe we are in a position to guarantee no retribution from ourselves. I do not think we can account for the actions of others." This was also in a whisper.

Ok, the kobold will tell you to wait while he goes to disable the ward line.

You hear the now-distinctive sound of the wand of disintegration activating twice, and then he walks back, and moves his men out of the way. It seems they don't quite trust you to keep your word, but they've kept theirs.

The covered bridge awaits.

The hatch opens easily. You see a razor-edged iron water wheel turning very slowly - too slowly, perhaps - covered in some sort of disturbing brown substance.

The moaning comes from beneath it. There's no easy way to get down to look at it except by jumping down to the bank or loweringa rope.
